Double Dash’s controllers are well suited for this game because it heavily relies on the Player to drift at all times! Especially at higher speeds! You can’t just drive straight and that’s it, YOU HAVE TO KEEP MOVING or you will lose! Which is why the kart swaying side to side makes drifting work perfectly as intended. I can definitely see where you’re coming from, and although I do disagree with some of your points (the physics don’t feel especially satisfying or responsive to me), the mechanics you mentioned, having to do with swapping characters, are definitely a ton of fun and I’d love to see them return! The battle mode is also really great, like you said. There’s definitely a lot to love about Double Dash, even if it’s not my favorite. And your English is genuinely perfect, don’t worry!
It’s not the special items nor the double characters that make love this game, but the physics and character animations. To me, it feels the most like a go-KART racer to me, and it feels very chaotic and fast-paced. And I love how animated the characters are, and I especially love how characters fall out of the karts.
As someone who has played the Mario Kart series extensively, Double Dash is still my personal favorite in the series for a LOT of reasons - far too many to even go into detail about them all in a simple RUclips comment - that together add up to make the frantic racing fun that Mario Kart is associated with. My favorite reason by far though is the unreplicatable couch co-op experience that Double Dash provides. I still bounce back and forth between multiple iterations of Mario Kart playing with various age ranges of friends and family, and even though Double Dash isn't the most conventional game to set up, it is without question the installment that has provided the most memorable moments while playing all together. Sure, there may be a few grunts, "heads up"s and even victory cheers while playing other installments, but when multiple players are playing Mario Kart Double Dash, the room explodes with constant banter, team communication, screams, laughs, and high fives that you just don’t get to see anytime else. I think the best example of it from my own experience may be this video: ruclips.net/video/rk5uabVfvTs/видео.html Any iteration of Mario Kart is capable of providing a fun time with friends, but this absolute degree of frantic chaos could only have ever come out of Mario Kart Double Dash!!
Double Dash has more depth than any other MK game in the series. Thats just a fact. Which is one of the reasons people like me prefer it. One little example is the “hop”. The hop was in the very first MK game because it actually had a purpose. You could jump over walls and obstacles. But it became redundant in MK64, so they smartly decided to remove it in DD, and make the game have much tighter drifting. (They also added two characters, and character specific items, etc). They removed all of those advancements in DS, AND added the hop back. But here is the kicker… they didnt provide a reason for the hop. There is literally nothing that the hop does. Its just there. It was Nintendo’s way of hitting “restart” on the franchise, with no good reason except for nostalgia and sales. But really, the answer to this entire debate is, why do casual Nintendo fans feel the need to have such strong opinions and make videos about them? MKDD is the most hardcore competitive game in the franchise, which is why many people prefer it. That’s it. Its the same BS with Splatoon. If you’re not a competitive player, then you’re not going to enjoy it that much. And thats ok! But why are you so narcissistic? Why feel the need to make video explaining your opinions? You’re a casual gamer. Nothing wrong with that.
I think that’s starting to become a more popular debate now that people who grew up with Wii are adults and are starting to become more prominent on RUclips, but for the longest time, all the 90s kids would praise Double Dash as the best by far.
The special items and roaster makes character comp and cart picking more important. The combinations that follow range from broken (too good) to broken (unusable) and that makes the game sooo much fun. I love picking the most absolute dog water comp and sliding and bumping around like it’s Mario kart Wii on ice, OR picking toad and koopa and snaking so much I lap every racer. Plus co-op is an absolute riot, assuming you have friends
Mario kart ds has always been my favorite purely due to nostalgia I remember only needing one cartridge and being able to play with 5 of my cousins and my 2 brothers when we visited Florida (where some of my aunts and uncles live) it was always a blast and I miss those days
DS is best because it has the perfect balloon battle mode. Making it purely a survival game instead of who can get the most points in 3 minutes is so much better. If it weren't for ctgp I would only play DS
Double Dash has a special place in my heart being the first one I ever played. If they remastered it with current gen Mario characters (barring the clones), it'd be amazing.
I don't even think the gimmick is that cool, that and the fact that there are only 16 tracks in the whole game. I think it's a case of people who grew up with the fake are getting nostalgic.
@@johnomalley7211 Super Mario Kart is easily worse, the controls are janky, its not as pleasing to look at as super circuit, and the track selection is downright bad. Super circuit imo is just SMK but way better.
It’s because the driving & maps on the modern game feel like balloon cars going down a giant street. Double Dash however feels like a fucking racing game 😆
Not everybody loves this game the most, DS has to be my favorite but double Dash is still a fantastic game just not the best. The best has to go to DS, Wii, or 8D,
@@WiiMii2.0 yes but if you want to consider tracks, 8dx has by far the most and it has all of 7's mechanics, plus better graphics, while Wii has a huge moding comunity wich makes at least one custom track per day, ds has the most single player content with it's mission mode and single player battle mode, and Double Dash has it's unique gimick that many fans appreciate. The only thing going for 7 is it's tracks
@@melontoad Yeah 7 not having a vs mode really soured my view on that game. While I appreciate the tracks, especially rainbow road and the wuhu island courses, they just felt too slow for my liking. Still, I had a lot of good memories of that game tho despite my grievances
Born in '89, had all Nintendo consoles, played all MK games and for me this was the most fun. The following MK games started to lack in originality after this. Sorry but I think you're wrong
The only 2 special items that were regular items in previous games were the golden mushroom and triple shells, the bomb debuted as Wario and Waluigi's special item
I gotta say, there’s no online consensus that this is the best in the series. Die-hard fans for sure, but the idea that everyone is obsessed with Double Dash is a bit of an odd take.
I’d disagree imo double dash will be the best for various reasons it was the next 3d Mario kart game aside from Mario kart on the n64 but I enjoy having the items exclusive to characters since it makes it harder
@@undeadneko20gaming25I probably worded it a little wrong with the “by far” part. I can definitely see where you are coming from with some of my favorite mechanics in the series but I feel like the amount of diversity in having so many tracks really helps 8 and has imo the best soundtrack in the series with songs like Cloudtop Cruise and Sunshine Airport
I’ve played them all again like you and double dash is still the best one with friends,so much fun and I didn’t even grow up with GameCube it’s just a good game
The thing that gets overlooked about Double Dash is that it's the only game in the series that actually allowed you to control which item you had ready to use. Simply switching characters allowed you to change an item like a red item block which doesn't defend against shells to a banana you may have as your secondary item. Every other Mario Kart game forced you to let go of the item you got first before you could use the second item. No other Mario Kart game integrated that level of item strategy
The MT mechanics and the high skill ceiling is what makes it the best. For a casual player it's probably just a watered down version of the later games but for someone like me who enjoys playing time trials and playing at a more competitive level, it is by far the best in the series.
You have to understand that this game set the stage for a lot of the mechanics that showed up in future games and it had incredible multiplayer potential in an era before online gaming. You could even link two GameCubes together and play with up to eight people in the same room
Not the best but truly one of the sharpest Mario Kart This is where drifting really came alive and didn’t feel so clunky also where Wii, 7 Gp and GP 2 Graphics came from it All came from this game
@@noctisebboyDouble Dash fans act like babies even though most of them are grown ass men, Imagine getting so heated because some one doesn’t fucking Mario Kart Double Dash out of all games. DD fans really need to grown up and accept that people can have different opinions.
The Chain Chomp item was a Special Item but it never returned to any other installments. Speaking of not returning to any other installments, Koopa Paratroopa was a character that is only playable in this game, never returned to any other installments and was scrapped in Mario Kart Wii.
I’m literally playing this right now on the series x with 3 other people and it’s the most fun we have had on split screen in a while maybe try playing with other people so you can see what it’s all about
It's at least one of the more important entries in the series, codifying a decent amount of the mechanics, and providing a finalized design of the special cup logo as well as the item boxes.
It's partly the game, mostly the memories. Memories of fierce siblings rivalries. It's also the reason why super mario strikers and mario superstar baseball are top 5 all time mario games for me. There's few things as satisfying as a kid than making your siblings rage in a game.
MKDD wasn't as polished or doesn't feel as good as the newer Mario Kart games because it's an older game. The technology for that stuff wasn't available for it's time. You can say the other games feel better than MKDD, but it's as you pointed out, MKDD is the most unique. Why couldn't the newer games have introduced the same concepts MKDD did, but better and more polished? Character specific items, punching people close to you like you could in MKDD, etc. It was an amazing game for its time and era, which is why it's regarded as the best.
I'd say DS is the best Mario Kart, though Double Dash comes a close second. Speaking of Wii and items, the items in that game make everything frustrating. The new items (Mega Mushroom, POW Block, and Thunder Cloud) are especially frustrating to deal with, as proven by the fact that none of them have returned.
I love this Mario kart because you can actually dodge red shells and even blue shells (though harder) by charging a mini turbo after drifting. Love rewarding mechanics like this
Such a shame they never made a part to do this to continue it, but I honestly did love Mario kart double dash and I think it needs a continuation, especially given the fact that every Mario kart continues to grow with a lot more tracks, special items, and characters
I just played a ton of Double Dash with a bunch of friends who’ve never played it and we had a blast. It’s not perfect by any means but man I love it so much
Mariokart DS will always be my favorite. I remember so many times on the school bus as a kid, we'd get a bunch of kids on DS download play and have so much fun.
Fair point in the item being somewhat baron and the special items. I’ll counter with, the special items and specific characters getting different karts makes it more interesting choosing your characters, like in almost any other Mario kart there’s almost no reason to choose a different character besides your favorite or unless someone else chose your favorite character. Double dash influences you to try different combinations of characters instead of staying with the same character which I think is amazing and I wish they would do again.
It’s the best because of multiplayer and that’s mainly due to the sheer chaos that is DK Mountain, Sherbet Land and Baby Park. These tracks were neutered in 8.
The drifting gameplay, you can choose which item to use first, Flora Pirahna and Boo has all the items available, you can play all cups in an ultimate mix cup, the chaos of Bob-Bomb Battles (you'll never experience a better battle than in Double Dash) that's why it's the best.
God items being character specific and rare is a GOOD THING. Mk8 has such a high item frequency and drop rate for the best ones that it takes little to no effort to jump from last all the way to first in only half a lap.
I think Nintendo needs to add a Double Dash mode to future games because co-op is so much fun in Double Dash and I think that's why people remember it fondly
I love Mario Kart 8 and I'm having a blast but I think the biggest reason is that people have a lot of fun memories with Double Dash, including myself. Nostalgia can play a big part in the way people remember games.
It's the best because of its 4 player multiplayer. You interact with each other more (especially the battle mode). All the newer entries focused more on online (which was awesome), but the local multiplayer suffered since it's mostly CPUs everywhere.
Mkwii to me is by far my fav because of how active and fun it’s shortcuts and overall the races are. They’re all placed very well and make for exiting endings
I personally consider the best because it’s so unique that there’s more of a reason to play it over any of the others. Like if I want the standard Mario kart experience then I’ll just play the newest one, and this one is just a slightly different experience. I would love to see this style return as a new game mode in a future Mario kart.
Double Dash has a lot of really good tracks but the driving feels so weird, yet you can easily feel the difference between having a heavy character on the back of the car and a light weight character
The only thing more exhilarating than winning a game of Modern Mario Kart against your friends is winning a game of MKDD and giving your partner on the couch a high five

That's a whole book o-o
Brov listing every good vibe of the game, great job
The track design for Double Dash is definitely one of the most unique in the series and the way 8 downgraded some of their uniqueness irks me
the fact you dont come to a complete stop and have to wait 10 years to drive again after being hit already makes this Mario kart one of the best xD
It’s not the special items nor the double characters that make love this game, but the physics and character animations. To me, it feels the most like a go-KART racer to me, and it feels very chaotic and fast-paced. And I love how animated the characters are, and I especially love how characters fall out of the karts.
Eh, still my favorite Mario Kart ever
Eh, biased opinion due to nostalgia.
@@gerboog No one had GameCube, everyone had ps2 at the time and i still think this is the best one in the series

I think the best example of it from my own experience may be this video:
ruclips.net/video/rk5uabVfvTs/видео.html
Any iteration of Mario Kart is capable of providing a fun time with friends, but this absolute degree of frantic chaos could only have ever come out of Mario Kart Double Dash!!
Nigga you literally just described the experience rather than the game itself. In other words you only like it for nostalgic reasons.
@@MyGodzilla99 the design of the game allows these types of experiences to happen more.
@@MyGodzilla99 pretty sure the devs made the levels with the idea that… their levels would create experiences for the player…
Idk just my thought
You guys are delusional. The same can be applied to any other Mario kart game.
@@MyGodzilla99 my point exactly
Nothing wrong with that.
until reading these comments I've never heard anyone say this game was their favorite
I always hear the battle between Wii and 8 Deluxe
Yep
Clickbaity shorts
I think that’s starting to become a more popular debate now that people who grew up with Wii are adults and are starting to become more prominent on RUclips, but for the longest time, all the 90s kids would praise Double Dash as the best by far.
@@PatchiKnowledge What have I become? 😔
Wii is best
DS is definitely my favorite them missions hit different
DS is best because it has the perfect balloon battle mode. Making it purely a survival game instead of who can get the most points in 3 minutes is so much better. If it weren't for ctgp I would only play DS
@@inkyjonin5341 Isn’t that what the balloon battle game was up until DS?
@@sensitiivv_ idk, I never played any before DS. Still tho DS is the most polished one to have the better balloon battle

Mk 8 deluxe combined with double dash would be cool
technically we have double item boxes in 8 deluxe, so it’s a little bit combined
MKDS will always be my favorite. I pretty much broke my DS Lite's dpad just by playing Mario kart.
MOOD. The L and R buttons too
MKDS is the best one dont @ me
Idk how mine survived, i helda few world record time trials for a few courses back in middle school 😂

((I know it’s in MK8 too but the MKDD version is more fun and chaotic with friends))
seeing 2 koopas holding 3 koopa shells is the least expected thing ive seen today
The main reason why double dash is my favorite is because I played the co op a lot with my brother
Super Circuit is pretty great. It’s an upgraded Super Mario Kart. Sky Garden just hits different! Love your videos!!
It looks like a lot of fun. I’ll definitely have to get it off the Wii U eShop before it closes. And glad you’re liking the videos!
Super Circuit is the worst Mario Kart

@@JJSSBU that’s the only track in that game that’s good🤣
@@johnomalley7211 Super Mario Kart is easily worse, the controls are janky, its not as pleasing to look at as super circuit, and the track selection is downright bad. Super circuit imo is just SMK but way better.

I’d really like to try DD someday, seems like a lot of fun!
Personally grew up with and LOVES Wii
It’s because the driving & maps on the modern game feel like balloon cars going down a giant street.
Double Dash however feels like a fucking racing game 😆
Not everybody loves this game the most, DS has to be my favorite but double Dash is still a fantastic game just not the best. The best has to go to DS, Wii, or 8D,
I think 7 should be in the running too. The best rainbow road, and Wuhu Island tracks
Not this MF saying that MK 7 is better than Double Dash
DS perfected the drift smh wish we could get that back in later installments
The courses are incredible, but the driving is very finicky. I don't think it's bad, but many others are better.
I’d say Double Dash is my FAVORITE from nostalgia and playing it with my family but 8 is by far the BEST
Toad agrees with this short so very much!
Double Dash doesn't feel like shit tho 💀💀💀
The MT mechanics and the high skill ceiling is what makes it the best. For a casual player it's probably just a watered down version of the later games but for someone like me who enjoys playing time trials and playing at a more competitive level, it is by far the best in the series.
I had only a DS growing up so you can imagine which one my favorite is. I spent hours on mission mode
I’ve owned quite a few mario karts and still nothing compares to the DS Kart. Fully agree
You have to understand that this game set the stage for a lot of the mechanics that showed up in future games and it had incredible multiplayer potential in an era before online gaming. You could even link two GameCubes together and play with up to eight people in the same room

This is where drifting really came alive and didn’t feel so clunky
also where Wii, 7 Gp and GP 2 Graphics came from it All came from this game

mkwii fans when mkdd is mentioned:
It's at least one of the more important entries in the series, codifying a decent amount of the mechanics, and providing a finalized design of the special cup logo as well as the item boxes.
Mario Kart Wii will always be the best in my heart.
It's partly the game, mostly the memories. Memories of fierce siblings rivalries. It's also the reason why super mario strikers and mario superstar baseball are top 5 all time mario games for me. There's few things as satisfying as a kid than making your siblings rage in a game.
DD is the best in the series. You're wrong and this video has been reported. Don't ever try this stunt again.
It was an amazing game for its time and era, which is why it's regarded as the best.
anyone with a brain in their head knows mkwii is on top
I'd say DS is the best Mario Kart, though Double Dash comes a close second. Speaking of Wii and items, the items in that game make everything frustrating. The new items (Mega Mushroom, POW Block, and Thunder Cloud) are especially frustrating to deal with, as proven by the fact that none of them have returned.
The gameplay is amazing, it feels way faster than other games and it’s way bouncier and chaotic than Wii.
The way you can't steer when the car unpredictably bounces makes the driving so damn fun.
I don't know about best, but it was undeniable a HUGE leap forward for the series and a really important entry
I love this Mario kart because you can actually dodge red shells and even blue shells (though harder) by charging a mini turbo after drifting. Love rewarding mechanics like this
No one listens to game critiques anyway. They don't play games, and yet they review games.
Such a shame they never made a part to do this to continue it, but I honestly did love Mario kart double dash and I think it needs a continuation, especially given the fact that every Mario kart continues to grow with a lot more tracks, special items, and characters
Tell me you never had a gamecube growing up without telling me:
I just played a ton of Double Dash with a bunch of friends who’ve never played it and we had a blast. It’s not perfect by any means but man I love it so much
Mariokart DS will always be my favorite. I remember so many times on the school bus as a kid, we'd get a bunch of kids on DS download play and have so much fun.
Mario Kart DS has always been my favorite
"minus Super Circuit" Yup I'm with you
Fair point in the item being somewhat baron and the special items.
I like that double dash had unique specials for each character that later mario kart games lack
It’s the best because of multiplayer and that’s mainly due to the sheer chaos that is DK Mountain, Sherbet Land and Baby Park. These tracks were neutered in 8.
wii > ds > double dash > 8 > 7 > 64 > super circuit > super
Tell me you don't know how to A-tech without telling me you don't know how to A-tech
