hi for $300 what do u recommend also would eris 3.5 or 4.5 get accurate sound for music production and good mixing. also by used u mean ebay or is there different websites
I have been looking for beginner home studio setups and for some reason everyone I watched just kept talking shit about everything that was under a certain level, mostly because they doesn't understand or probably don't remember what an actual beginner is ready for. This is the first video that has actually made me feel like I've finally got some nice and reassuring inputs to set up my home studio in my tiny budget. Thanks a lot for this!
I’m a musician, singer and songwriter. In addition to a laptop, I have some of the items that you said were needed for home recording on a budget including the MIDI keyboard, the DAW and closed back headphones. As it turns out, I work in an electronics store so I can get some of the items that you mentioned for less. The issue that I’ve been having with home recording is the know how with regards to how to use the items. I downloaded what was needed for the keyboard yet according to the instructions for the DAW(also a Behringer),it says that it has to recognize all the instruments used before recording. I also purchased a pop filter which was suggested by other musicians. In any case, I was very interested in what you said and have hit the subscribe button. Thanks for doing this-you just might have the answers to my questions.
Imma be a friend and tell you to start with reaper or something like FL Studio. For DAW, use something with a massive user base. Massive user base = lots of tutorials
@@buckbreaker5185 Thanks for the advice. At the moment, I’m trying Studio One as a DAW. Because of my financial situation, I can only afford a free DAW that can be downloaded on my laptop. Some time ago, I used my [winter holiday money] to purchase a condenser microphone kit. I’m still trying to figure out how to use it with the laptop.
@@glamgal7106 any daw is good really. Reaper isn't technically free but it has an unlimited trial like winrar For your mic, unless its USB, remember you need an interface of some sort (like a scarlet 2i2) and also make sure you installed the audio drivers for the interface. That is very important Then in your daw assign the mic as an input and start making music my friend
Edward, thank you so much for this. The way you explained everything was so understandable. I went from knowing absolutely nothing to having an idea of what everything does now! Once again. Thank you for taking the time to do this for us beginners :) Truly a King 👑
It would be very interesting for you to produce a song from scratch with the equipment you recommend and to show the entire process and the usefulness that these tools gave you. Greetings.
@@EdwardSmithMusic Perfect, it is a great contribution to see the potential and limitations of the equipment, leaving aside the notable point that each producer can add a utility and use to the equipment. Thank you very much for taking the time to respond, I love your videos. Success in all.
@@EdwardSmithMusic did u ever get to do that idea? Also a question bro…. The usb mic that u recommended when I connect my headphones into the audio interface and say I open voice recorder on my Lenovo yoqa laptop I don’t hear anything after recording but I will if I connect the headphones directly to the mic.. is there a setting you do that for in the laptop? And what is a good app I can record music … I’m a singer but I don’t have any concept in recording
From my little experience in music production this your lecture is the cheapest way to having a home studio and its the best of all I have watched on RUclips. Thanks for this lecture.
For the person reading this comment; This video is perfect and accurate for a $300 BUDGET Studio. I would not recommend this setup for anyone who's been BOTH recording and producing for 3+ years. I have been recording music for 4+ years so I opted for a condenser microphone for better sound quality. As for the rest of the setup, it is perfect for my financial situation and also my beginner experience with producing. Obviously aim to upgrade your equipment as you progress and save money. That way your setup is growing WITH your experience. After making some changes for myself my total did not reach 300 or lower BUT it is still within range of my $400 budget which is perfect for me. (PS: I do have a producer to mix and master vocals and tracks for me which is another reason I chose for a condenser microphone)
Been a joy and education watching your various "budget studio" vids over time, from your earlier "RUclipsr voice" to the merch slinging man before me; props 🍻👏🏿
I'm somewhat starting this kind of setup myself, I just recently bought me a mini keyboard and looking for a laptop. I guess depending on what you want or need I can say that I have found some on Amazon for around $150 with some decent reviews that I will be ordering myself. Just a small bit that may help someone out there needing a laptop for a good price
Thank you. Excited to start my home studio journey. And like you, I bought stuff prior to knowing what I am doing. Need to get studio monitors but have a behringer setup (same interface plus their phones and mic), and a apc key 25. Now just get better on guitar and get going

I had an ADAT tape. Studio with a Mackie board. And a bunch of outboard gear . We flattened out the room with pink noise. That's a studio standard trick to eq the room flat. And it was amazing for 16 tracks. But. I want this new PC style
Great video! If you don't have 300 right now, I would suggest focusing on the midi controller and headphones first. Then, if you are using instruments, get the audio interface or mic if using vocals. Then get the monitors. Btw these Presonus are amazing quality for the price! Cheers
What set up or equipment would you recommend a college student looking to make his own music and produce during the semester? Would the set up in this video be perfect or is there another option?
This is a very nice video you've put together and is really helpful because frankly, when I was starting with my home studio purchases videos like this one were absolutely helpful (including many of yours). I would add one correction to it, though. That interface you chose requires two RCA outputs, and the Presonus monitors use two RCA inputs as well. The cable included with the monitors does not provide the connection those items need to work together. The cables you mention need to be purchased separately which may come as a surprise if someone is in a very early stage in their recording/producing career and are working with a really tight budget. Keep on your nice work!
I was on a lower bundget with a gaming setup that I wanted to turn into a studio setup. I already had my guitar, amp, multi fix and a decent laptop and also had the monitors because I bought them to use as gaming speakers. I have a gaming headset and of course the multi fx pedal. I ended up Buying a microphone and an external sound card along with a DAW and since the specific sound card I got was for recording it as stuff like auto tune and other effects and settings etc built in and it worked fine for me. Cost me $60usd to do. But again I was only converting it from a gaming to recording. So that made it easier

my guy i need help, i have evo 4 and rode nt1a, i somehow cant make make the mic work with ableton live. I can hear music from ableton but cant use the mic. What am i doing wrong? thank you
Great video! Thanks. I would only add 50$ more to a microphone and buy AudioTechnica at2020 instead of USB mick and maybe AudioTechnica ATH mx40 headphones as they are more flat. It should all be in 400$ range, but it's is really worth that extra 100$ and the setup more "pro" ;)
Fantastic videos, and I wanted to ask for your advice. I have a 13X13 room and will be using a Universal Audio Volt 276 for playing Bass Guitar and keyboards to write and produce music. I am confused on how big of a studio monitor (KRK Gen 4 is what I am looking at), what OHM for headphones (DT 700 Pro X is what I am looking at), and what free DAW software is best to set up a studio in my house. Any suggestions?
If you are guitarist or instrument player go for ssl2 , motu 2 this are good or if you just vocal recording go for focusrite on native instruments audio 2.
Good video. Been playing music for years, but never recorded. Any easy, but useful software to recommend? Also, my Amp has a USB to run to PC (Blackstar Venue MKII 6L6 40W). Would I run this into the audio interface, into the computer or bypass the amplifier altogether and run into audio interface at the end of my effects chain? What about effects that run into effect loop after pre-amp. How do I handle those if bypassing the amplifier?
I bought everything in this video, thanks for your advice. I have a Mac and my headphones don’t play through my interface, I have to have them directly in the computer. Any advice on how to fix?
