Hilariously, I don't think I've ever clicked 'like' because someone asked, but the way you asked and the fact that you don't usually do it inspired me to click it. While I'm here, your teaching style is pristine... the information is concise and delivered warmly and simply. I'm about to get started with Abelton (waiting on hardware) and have been so excited I binge your videos every day. On one video, you mentioned paid courses you provide. I'll be buying one of those for sure. I admire your passion and generosity in making the awesome free information that you do. Thank you!
thanks for those kind words, and clicking the like button lol! can't wait for your journey. the most important thing is that you work on music consistently! the course will definitely help you improve faster though.
@@CompleteProducer I actually wanted to know your opinion on something. Right now, I own a 4gb or 8gb. I can't run Live on it because the laptop is considered outdated. I am out of a job and I was wondering if using another daw might be the best option. That daw is Bitwig studio. The only reason I am hesitant on using it, is because it lacks all the tutorials and education Ableton has created over the years. Plus most artists are using Live. I also wanted to perform live kind of like the group Orbital. Not so much for bands. But solo. Should I stick with Ableton. Do you think that would be the wisest choice overall as a beginner? Or would you go with whatever is on hand and stick with it? I feel learning a daw can take years to master. I'm torn. I also own a sp404mk2 sampler to keep myself busy until I can get a macbook.
I LOVE THIS. I have never done this type of thing but I want to make music and I am so tired of thwarting myself by sabotage. I can do it. You eloquently relayed your years of knowledge to me and I heard every single word. Thank you.
Ethan, I love your music so much ! Just discovered you last week.. your album 'Charmed' is such a beautiful collection of love letters to Jesus😭🙏 I was literally crying, please keep making music like this 💜, God bless you !
Massive Respect for you brother. You're freaking amazing, the way you share your knowledge is impeccable. I hope this week turns out to be the best week of your life!
Ethan, I absolutely love your channel and the way you explain things is the only helpful channel I’ve found. Lately, I’ve been extremely discouraged. I am aiming to create dubstep/ melodic edm and I would love if you could make a video explaining how to create a track similar to those genres.
i just have a dropbox folder on my external hard drive and i work on my projects in that folder so everything is uploading to the cloud as im working. maybe i will cover it in a future video...as im typing it i realize it's kind of confusing lol
I try to cover audio effects in Ableton in most of my videos to give people a way of doing everything without buying third party stuff. I will continue to try and provide that information in future videos as well!
if you dont care as much for portability with your computer, a good budget option in my opinion is the new mac mini m4. its super tiny, very powerful, and only $600. good of storage and ram
I'm watching your videos for a couple of days now, and thinking serious about buy Ableton and dive into it, making some remixes. i tried FL but i dont pick it up there. so this can be a whole new start for something awesome. anyway keep up with the good content.
in case you were wondering.. I clicked like coz you asked me to :).. otherwise, good video and much appreciated. I'm helping my daughter research getting setup to start her studio setup.
Love your explanation on this subject and you saying you teach Ableton. I am interested in learning this DAW and wanting to expand my knowledge on songwriting, producing, and mix and mastering. Would love to connect with you and learn under your tutelage. Aloha from O’ahu🤙🏾
I am wondering if it would be possible to get started with music production without the interface ? I am in tight budget rn wondering if I can somehow produce some music while im still learning it without the Interface? Thanks in advance Ethan
Yes you can. You can start with a laptop and usb microphone if you want. Or if you’re not singing, don’t need a mic, you can do music on your phone, iPad, or get a small groove box like a Roland p-9 or something. Lots of options. Watch videos and research.
Question why do you need an interface I have a nic that will plug in to usbc to my computer and sounds pretty good. Is it just quality your getting or is there other reasons for the interface.
I won an Akai APC-40 (i think that's what it was called) and I almost never used it. It just never found its way into my workflow and because of that, I can't recommend it. If you're going to do stuff like the Madeon mashup Pop Culture...then maybe. But I think with a MIDI keyboard and Macbook you're already good to go.
Hey Ethan! I've really enjoyed your videos (not to mention the album "charmed" you did with Isla Vista🤩). I have a fender LT25 amplifier that I want to record USB. I got ASIO4ALL but when I try seting it all up, Ableton says "Live does not support 8000 as a samplerate for this device." I've tried quite a few things but to no avail. Do you have any idea what the issue could be?
Thank you!! I don't know a ton about amps, but you may have to get an interface, like the Scarlett, and then mic you amp with an SM57 and record it like that. A lot of people do that, or just record their guitar directly plugged in to their interface and process it afterwards in Ableton.
great video bro. I have a scarlet solo 3rd gen and its garbage ( mic is a sennheiser mke 600). Would a UAD Volt 1 or UAD Volt 176 make a big difference for me in sound quality? And is there truly a significant difference between the apollo twin x and volt or the scarlet octre? Thanks
I really wanna get started in this career because its my dream, but i need a new computer because mine is old and slow. I was wondering if you have any other recommendations bc you only mentioned the macbook but it has no usb ports.
I havent really produced on a phone but I'm pretty sure Steve Lacy uses Garage Band on an ipod. and there's also Bandlab. Those are the only ones I can think of.
Beginners should look into Stam Audio Mics. Save up a bit and start off with great mics around $500-$1k. All of the mainstream mics worth having start at around $2k. You'll spend more trying a bunch of cheap mics over and over just to end up here anyway.
Super happy with UA's volt 276, too. It's slightly pricier than focusrite, but the hardware is better and it came with an amazing software bundle (including Ableton). They also sell a studio kit with mic and headphones, both gettin' it done for me 👍
Was the 3k mic an ad? Why would We be telling a supposed beginner about a $3000 mic, they can record vocals and other stuff with there phone mic to start no need for a audio interface. Mac is also not a good recommendation because they have to then get apple everything to be compatible which is the most expensive options of tech. This is not really for a beginner.
it's just the mic i love using. i also gave a 100 and 400 dollar option. im only recommending gear ive used and can vouch for. macs are great, i love using them, and i recommend them! if you want to use a PC, no problem either, i just dont want to recommend something that i havent used.
@CompleteProducer Interesting that you recommend an over hyped over priced Laptop with little to no upgrade options. I run Ubuntu Studio on a desktop that I built and can upgrade if required
@@JohannesNielsen they aren't overhyped. There's no windows or Linux laptop that's as good as the m chip macbooks. Also m1 macbook airs are like 6-700$ now so very affordable and powerful with incredible battery life.
i think this would be better stated as "a good microphone won't make a bad voice sound good" haha. but a better mic will make a good voice sound even better!

With people saying M1 is overkill I get real skeptical when I'm looking at a M3 with eight gigabytes of RAM is that too low? Speaking on The Ram?
For the how much it’s priced yes

You don't need a audio interface if your not using a mic and real instrument. just a good laptop and studio headphones
exactly, great for electronic music!
