Agreed honestly. If it is because 'it's not human enough'. Noonien didn't design Data to be human, but to be even better, with the things that make humans special. His skin is golden for Christ sake lol. Spiner asked Gene that question, that if Soong wanted to make something so close to humans why couldn't he have normal skin, and Gene answered with a question "What makes you think that what you have isn't better than skin?" And Spiner agreed. Floatation device? Why not? The amount of contingency sub-routines Noonien wrote would not have included a flotation device in the case Data needed to be rescued from deep water? Yes. Yes it would have XD How? Well... Uh... Lol That's a question for Noonien lol
Actually, Data DOES breathe, Picard! But he can go a long time without breathing. (see season 6, episode "Birthright" Part 1): "I do have a functional respiratory system. However, its purpose is to maintain thermal control of my internal systems. I am, in fact, capable of functioning for extended periods in a vacuum."
I am pretty sure it was easier to tell a kid "He doesn't need to breathe" or "He doesn't breathe" than have to explain all of that XD By all intents and purposes, Data imitates breathing fo lr cooling purposes and probably only when needed. Like your laptop when it goes hard on the fan, but it doesn't do that always XD

Anyone else noticed that by this movie deanna troi has effectively become her mother loxanna in personality and mannerism? I find that to be both hysterical and quite fitting.
I think that's stretching it. She is however acting more like Marina Sirtis, which is a good thing. TNG's most unforgivable crime was taking an actress, who's witty, funny, has a backbone, and is a brilliant actress, and giving her the most one dimensional character with the most wooden uninspired dialogue. Judy Dench couldn't deliver a good performance with what they gave Sirtis to work with.
@@ivydex3073 Fascinating.. you are remarkable in your tastes. I had always wondered if women found Data attractive. Would like to meet a woman like you.. unique🎉
While I do LOVE this scene, it had to sort of break the rules regarding Data's abilities. He's an android that can perform several complex activities simultaneously. He CAN'T be distracted. This tactic shouldnt have worked, using the song. Data would simply sing along and also continue to focus on evading Picards shuttle. Still, im more than willing to look the other way when im enjoying an amazing Star Trek movie. I really wish they had made more films with the TNG cast, especially since Patrick ended up developing old man voice and doesnt sound at all like the strong, dignified Captain Picard anymore. They could still make a film based on Riker and the Titan crew, now THAT would be EPIC
Okay.... Should I point out that Picard was going to obscond with just shy of 16,000lbs of explosives???? Like, even if one assumes that they are just low-yield explosives, thats STILL gonna make one heck of a bang....
Why did it suck ? Sure it is not as monumental as saving earth and all of humanity from the Borg. But it is really a classic TNG episode in movie length. Standing up for principle and i mean they do this for 600 people they could just as easily shrug it off and say fuck the Baku but no they risk their careers and by extent the enterprise to save 600 people. Does it get more Trek than that ?
On one hand, it's not that the humor is necessarily bad, but just like some of the MCU movies recently, it takes away from any real tension and is sometimes over the top. I don't believe Dr. Soong would make Data into a floatation device for others--he didn't make Data to be in service of humans and it's cartoony. And Data at this point, would know women are talking about women-related things like their "boobs sagging"--Season 2 Data, no, but his character would recognize that by now. And the singing...it's not that it's not fun, but it's just too silly, even if Brent Spiner can sing. However, the more subtle humor, like Geordie showing Data his own memory chips, and him responding, "There they are," is much better.
"I seem to be missing several memory endg--- there they are..."
Cracked me the fuck up xD
Picard: Data, what's the last thing you remember?
