Hey friends! Thanks for tuning in to Part 1 of our first time visiting Efteling in the Netherlands! If you're looking for part two, you can view it here: ruclips.net/video/SkxgqBWQ1OQ/видео.html
The Efteling opened as a fairytaleforest in 1952...designed by Anton Pieck ( the Walt Disney of Efteling)....his signature grimm look of everything and typical toned down colours made The Efteling unique. In the 80's they moved on to a bigger audience by adding the biggest rollercoaster of Europe in the days ( Python)...and added more rides to enlarge the park ...and today it's one of the biggest parks in Europe. They won numerous awards for their rides and achievements....loved your vlog and curious to the next episode...greets from The Netherlands ;)
Thank you so much and greetings from Germany! Thank you for the great info! I actually prefer that toned down look that he went for! It’s really really lovely and gives a bit of a mysterious and enchanting ambiance as well. We had just watched something on the fairy tale forest the other day since visiting and what an interesting story that is! We are thinking of a 2 day trip next time so we can spend some considerable time just in the fairytale forest!
Hello thanks for visiting Raveleijn! I'm a cast member/host working for 5 years now at Raveleijn, I always love to welcome new guests to our magical city! The show is a bit different then the books and series. So I won't bother you with the entire backstory written in the book. In the show you have the woman standing on top of the tower, Halina. With her medallion she controls her Ravens. When you came into our city you went through a big gate. The 5 knights you see, they are actually young children but with the Ravens sent by Halina they changed into adults when they entered the city and they changed into knights. Everyone has their own special power. Thomas got fire, Maurits got wood, Emma got metal, Lisa got water and Joost got soil. They are able to bend those powers with their weapons. When Joost got his power, he woke up the evil hiding in the city. The big dragon called Draconicon. Draconicon is a mechanical dragon powered by Olaf. When Olaf took the medallion of Halina, Halina lost her power. So the 5 knights tried to defeat Olaf in sword fighting. When Olaf and his guards got defeated. Olaf's last chance was his Draconicon. Draconicon can only be defeated by the 5 'chosen' knights with each of their own special power. But only when they work together they are able to. The reason why they did put their weapons back in the chest was to hide them from Olaf. Because without the weapons they can't defeat the evil in the city. When draconicon got defeated all evil in the city vanished. Halina was able to come back from Olaf's spell and her Raven came back with her medallion. And with that medallion she sent Olaf literally down. I hope it's a bit more clear now and if you got any more questions don't hesitate to ask! (sorry for any typo's :))
Awe thank you so so much for the detailed info on the show! We really appreciate it and can’t wait to come back and see it again knowing the storyline! Sounds like we got bits and pieces right and some others less so haha! We had a great time and as a performer over here, totally respect the hard work you all put into such a production! You’ve really created something special for the guests! 💕
Fun fact: the mirrors on the sides in Villa Volta (the madhouse) are stationary and never rotate. So if you're in that ride and you're experiencing motion sickness try focusing on the mirrors.
@@Gerrie_de_B. yes those always point up, it's a small illusion-breaker probably done just for that reason of your mind not connecting the right dots causing nausea -also those ugly black bulges next to the mirrors are cameras for your safety and any sign of trouble they otherwise would miss
The rice dishes you had were Indonesian, or at least the Dutch version of Indonesian food. It's very popular over here. (Language tip: if you find yourself traveling across the Netherlands and stumble on a 'Chinees-Indisch' restaurant, you might suspect based on the word forms that'd be 'Chinese and Indian': instead it means 'Chinese and Indonesian')
Oh interesting!! Thank you! We learn something new from you all every video! Had no idea that was a popular cuisine there. Very solid food though for the park 👍🏼
@@CompassChronicleTravels yep, Indonesia was the largest Dutch colony, from 1816 to 1941, until the Japanese occupation in WWII. It became independent in 1945. We have a large community with Indonesian roots in the Netherlands.
Be fast though. A lot of Chinese-Indonesian restaurants are disappearing. The new generation doesn't want to pick up the profession anymore of chef, so they are disappearing now.
Anton Pieck is the one who made the drawings for het sprookjesbos, the fairytaleswood. But originally he was an artist, a painter and a graphic artist. He made beautiful and very detailed artwork. It’s fun to see his artwork and how it fits into the Efteling. There is a museum about his life and art in Overveen :)
Fata Morgana is not about one specific story, but depicts the world of the Arabian Nights (or 1001 Nights) stories. Those contain stories like Aladdin, Sinbad and Ali Baba. Elsewhere in the park you have the dark coaster "Vogel Rok" which is based on a Sinbad story.
The Goat Riders in the Vila Volta ride is based on old spooky folk tales from the south of the Netherlands and pats of Belgium. There was a gang of robbers and thieves about whom stories were told that they were satanic and flew around on flying goats. The character in the park was the leader of that gang. They weren't really satanist and didn't ride goats. Flying or otherwise. But they did rob a abbey. For which he was cursed,
Efteling is truly a happy place for me. I have been going there since I was a baby (according to my parents)😂 There is even a story that says Walt Disney went to the Efteling and got inspired, but people don't agree on it being true or not. The park is great for pretty much every age group and I love the nature and how themed everything is. My favourite element of the park will always be the music. They even had 'Efteling in concert' shows where an orchestra played most of the themes. I got to go to the concert and it was one of the best evenings in my life. I hope you'll go back a couple more times. Even after all the times I have been there throughout my life I still always get a new experience and find new cool little things❤
Oh my gosh those concerts would be AMAZING!! We would be all over that if they brought them back! The music is incredible! And we agree…really something for every age group. We will definitely be back! Hopefully somewhat often. We have season passes now 🤗
Walt Disney never visited Efteling. Urban myth. He did visit the Netherlands in the early 1950s but not Efteling. He did visit Tivoli Park in Denmark though.
@@CompassChronicleTravels Trivoli and Efteling are literally the two oldest themeparks in the world. And it is worth checking them both out! Both parks are completely unique. They each have a typical European magical way of storytelling that is based upon centuries of history and fairytales. For me Efteling is unmatched in terms of giving that sense of old world magic as well as the total commitment for even the smallest of detail.
I grew up near efteling and we always went grocery shopping the day before efteling, to make our own sandwiches. And they were extra fancy. Also loads of candies and I always had a belly ache in the car. But that's kinda the thing you do here in theme parks. Years ago efteling didn't really have a lot of food options, only fries. They pay so much attention to the right music. There's documentaries out there which tell you all about the musical side of the rides.
That sounds like so much fun - bringing a fancy little lunch! We have talked about doing that and eating on the boat. Would be a lovely way to spend the day. And we will have to look up the documentaries because we are in LOVE with the musical choices. Just perfect!
The Efteling is amazing. I come to much there! Fun fact. The baron 1898 is one of the newest attractions from the Efteling and over 30 meters high (34,5 meters) and you always wait 5 seconds before u fall! Greets from Belgium 🇧🇪
What an awesome Park! Thoroughly enjoyed spending the day at the park with you and look forward to the next one. Each one of the Parks have been so unique. You do a great job filming and narrating. Love tagging along with you.😊
Thank you so much! 🤗💕. We are thoroughly enjoying sharing the experiences. All of the parks have been so unique and special and really can’t be compared because they have a personality all their own. Absolutely love the magical mystical vibes at Efteling though. Very special place!
@@CompassChronicleTravels keep an eye out for when the newest attraction (Sinbad I believe) comes. Next to Python & the Flying Dutchman obviously. There's an Efteling guy giving updates on it. Also undoubtedly you heard by now but De Bokkenrijders (The Goatriders) were a gang of robbers/ devilworshippers (hence the goat).
fun fact, you can hand in the drinking bottles for ' statiegeld'. You can do it at a supermarket, or you can donate your empty drink bottles in the efteling itself for a donation for charity :D
Nice that you have bin at the Efteling. I have a long time a subscription on the Efteling theme park. The park is investing year by year. Its fantastic to see that. If you have special questions about the park I love to hear it. If you have time to come a next time than you can go to the helden diner. Thats nice to visit.
Hey, love your theme park vlogs. Is great how you experience the parks here in Europe. Efteling is fantastic with its darkrides and theming of rides and of course all of their rides have great soundtracks. Experiencing the Flying Dutchman for first time is blowing your mind away. A must do is the evening show "Aquanura" with all of these great soundtracks, especially in winter or late summer opening when it's dark to see the fountains with lights.
Thank you so much! We really appreciate it! 🤗💕 we can’t WAIT to go back for Flying Dutchman and the nighttime show! Both high on our list! And the holidays! I bet it’s beautiful during Christmas time! The park is wonderful and really well rounded…you really get a little bit of everything. Personally, I prefer that and it gives you a lot of options if the weather shifts too! Such a special park!
Honestly, I find it difficult to watch themepark vlogs. They're really nice to see, but it doesn't have that 'suspense of disbelief' that you usually need to enjoy these fantasy-themed parks. But I do have to say that this park is my favourite. It is one of the best themeparks in the entirety of Europe.
10:15 Okay, to explain this a little... In case you are not aware, once upon a time what is now IIndonesia was a part of the Netherlands. As such Indonesian and Indonesian inspired food became popular amongst the Dutch. More or less every youth here learns to make their own nasi or bami dish. Slight exaggation, but based on reality anyhow. As such this 'asian' food is Dutch-Indonesian food. I often explain it like this: what British-Indian food is what Dutch-Indosiand food here. Basicly the same story.
I've been to the Efteling at least 4 times a year every year since birth and to this day evytime I'm there I see something new, it's the most magical place on earth ❤ every life problem can be faced after a day in the Efteling
Fun fact from the Efteling office you can look into the arena from ravelijn so the back houses are connected to the office do if you look good you can see workers true the windows
10:10: It's indeed "toko", the Malay word for "shop". You'll find these little shop / diner establishments all over the Netherlands, all named "Toko Somethingorother", selling delicious Indonesian or Suriname food.
Oh awesome! Thank you! That’s great info to have! It was very solid food for a park. We will have to venture out and try some other places on the next trip…we have seen there are some very well themed indoor places too 🤗
Yes! Excited to try Danse Macrabre when it opens! We heard they are preserving the music and certain elements from Spookslot possibly? Now that would be pretty cool to see!
The donutshopis a abended windmill, a dutch thing. The donut origally was introduced by a dutchman in the USA. Donuts originated from adaptations to the Dutch oliebol.
Without a doubt THE themepark in the Netherlands, others follow at a fair distance (although Slagharen and Helendoorn might come close when it comes to nostalgia for the Dutch) Pardoes was added in 1989 as mascotte. Before Pardoes. The first mascotte as far as I know was Jokie de Prrretneus (Jokie the funnnn nose) followed by Kabouter Kleine Boodschap (Gnome Little Message, that "name" is used in the Netherlands to say you need to go Nr1, a "grote Boodschap"or big message is Nr 2) Longnek has been used in advertising and commercials since the time of Jokie. Have you been to the Ïndische Waterlelies" (Indian Water Lilies) also known as "de Efteling Elfjes"(The Efteling Fairies), It is an animatronic show, the story was written by Queen Fabiola of Belgium.
Interesting! We have read/heard so many things about the mascot progression. Seems there have been multiple key characters throughout time. We really enjoy Pardoes though...very fun mascot! We haven't been to the Indian Water Lilies yet. We will definitely add it to the list though!
The Efteling used several mascots in the early years, mainly Kleine Boodschap and Langnek. Jokie didn't arrive until the 1980s, more than 30 years after the opening of the park. Pardoes would follow a few years later.
Please tell me you go and visit Droomvlucht in the next video! It's an older dark ride but for me it's pure nostalgia, as a kid it was one of the most magical experiences and even as an adult I still haven't visited Efteling if I didn't go into Droomvlucht
Yes, we do go on Droomvlucht! 🤩🤩🤩. What a stunner of a dark ride! I want to go back on it right now!! I can’t imagine growing up with it. It must hold so much magic and nostalgia!
26:23 theres a dutch/english youtube channel called 'theme park science' and they have a video about how madhouses work if i remember correctly, they have a dutch version and an english version of each video also the backstory: the goat riders are a gang of criminals that wreck and steal stuff, the guy in the second preshow explains how they stole from a church and his house got cursed, hence why it now will never stop moving
Oh wow! Thank you for that info on the pre-show! It was a long one so we were definitely wondering more about the storyline. We will definitely look up that channel. Would be fascinating to see how that works!
I was looking for an explanation of Villa Volta translated in English. Especially what the animatronic is saying in the beginning. This is what i found: The legend of Villa Volta is played on audio during the pre shows. This is in the Dutch language. Please find below a translation for your benefit. In the middle of the 18th century a wave of violence engulfed our Brabantian Campine and Limburg countryside. Hordes of unscrupulous bandits tore through our peaceful streets, plundering and setting fires. They called themselves “The Buckriders” after shadowy spirits of the air that, according to a medieval myth, swarmed the dark night sky, seated on bucks. Sixty long years the gang carried out a reign of terror over the rural population. Their satanic guild sign; a bucks foot, made everyone shudder and filled them with fear .... This house, this cursed house ... Hell hath found its equal. That one cursed evening in the Belgian Campine ... The sun was low and we sought beds for the night but found no trace of villages. But suddenly, in the distance ... a great building. The Postel Abbey, we knew. We brought the horses to gallop, and when the sun set, we arrived at the chapel. There was light behind the windows and it was deathly quiet. No monks chanting or pious mutterings. Behind the chapel door, gold cups and silver candlesticks for the taking, hahaha! With this in mind we rammed the door! No one .... The altar sparkled with its spoils. The candles were lit ... strange. My men cracked open the offertory box, and I myself emptied the altar. And then, suddenly, a slender hand appeared on my shoulder. I looked around, and behind me stood a young woman, her eyes ablaze. All saw her, and the clinking of gold and silver ceased. She seemed ... to float in her long white dress. For a moment I felt something like fear, and she spoke to me: "You, Hugo van den Loonsche Duynen, thou desecrate here this house. So repent, and seek not to call the Lord's wrath upon you ....' But I, I overcame my fear, dismissed her with scornful laughter and shoved her away roughly. I called for the men to leave and saw that she dissolved into nothing ... A day later, I reached my house. I was shocked; atop the facade stood...SHE! The lady from the chapel! Her arms waved as if swaying in the wind. I heard her voice, as if it were floating in my head: "Nowhere in your own home, nor anywhere in the world shall thou find rest or peace, now that thou hath violated God's house ... only when a noble person with the clean conscience of a new born child will enter your dwelling, shall thou find peace in your home and in your heart ... That curse, my gruesome fate, so far has not been broken ... Enter with a pure soul, so that the doom may fall from this house, and my soul can acquire the rest, which I so greatly desire .....
Fata morgana has nothing to do with pirates, it's based on the 1001 Arabian nights fairy tale. With Raveleijn your missing the whole backstory: a ten-ish part TV show that came with the attraction. It's about a troubled family who moved to a new house, which the kids hated. They end up traveling to the past, gaining elemental powers (turning them into adult warriors as well) and fighting the bad guy who uses dark magic to create living animatronics to conqquer the area. Of course the whole thing turns them into a happy family again. They give up their powers because they saved the day and returned to the present. At least that's my vague recollection. There was even a computer game you could play yourself. The goat riders were a criminal gang in the far-ish past, accused of using dark magic and dealing with the devil. The old guy is the leader and his house is haunted as the result of his evil deeds.
Book the hotel or one of the cabins to get 30 min early access into the park. You can hit Baron and another ride in the first 45 mins with hardly a queue.
Yessss! We 100% want to do this and have been looking into last minute deals. We'd like to get back this month, although our schedules are a bit tighter at the moment than usual. We will make a point to do that as soon as we can though. Their accommodations also look really nice!
this theme park is this good because disneyland based his park of this park the efteling park so u can only learn from the best and always come seccond efteling is hard to beat worldwide its known as 1 of the best
Next time you get your fried rice you should eat it in the swan boats. The entrance to the ride is very close and the boats go around in the perfect amount of time for you to finish your lunch! (This is totally allowed on the swan ride btw)
Thank you so much! We are glad you enjoyed it...we love Efteling! And YES! We did go and watch that and it's superrrr interesting! We will have to watch more videos from them!
I don't know if anyone else commented, but the Holle Bolle Gijs, the talking trashcans, are (I believe) only made for paper, they say: 'papier hier', which translates to 'paper here'. Just so you know for next time wen you're visiting the Efteling ^^
Even though they say "papier hier", Holle Bolle Gijs and his family will eat all kinds of trash as long as it fits in their mouth. They even have their own story. You can find it by googling Holle Bolle Gijs story.
Thank you both so much!! We appreciate the support greatly! 🤗💕. And yes! It may be a little bit but we actually filmed a Phantasialand vlog over the weekend. We are going to space things out with other content, but can’t wait to share our thoughts on it!
@@barusshka92 thank you so much! We can’t wait to share. We stayed at the Hotel Charles Lindbergh too which was sooooo cool. What a place that park is!
@@CompassChronicleTravels We are doing tour the germany parks as our honeymoon in septemeber and we will be in hotel matamba ... I just can't stop watching all these coaster vlogs! 😁 I recently discover you and I like your style!
Hey I loved the video and I also love the efteling and mostly the Raveleijn show and here is a short version of the story line of the park show. The show is about 5 siblings who have to save the city called Raveleijn who is being ruled by the mean count Olaf, his wife Halina (the princess looking woman) called the five siblings (the colorful knights) to come and save the city with their special powers.
@@nicolaischramm3876 we can’t wait to ride Python and the Flying Dutchman! Unfortunately, Python was closed for maintenance when we went and it got so cold and windy later in the day for Dutchman, but we really want to ride those both! We got season passes though so we will be going back for them! As for Droomflucht…🤩🤩🤩🤩
Ahh, unfortunate...cuz you probably wouldnt have get wet on Fyling Dutchman. Theres only the last Splash and they can adjust how big the splash is. If it was cold and windy, they most likely use the "dry" splash...
@@nicolaischramm3876 oh nooooooo! Such a bummer! We should have gone for it as we really wanted to ride that one. Hopefully we will be back possibly even within the next couple weeks and that’s gonna go on the top of our list!
Hi, I lived for 24 years across the street of the Efteling. My favorite ride is the Vogel Rok, the indoor roller coaster. When I had friends over from outside my village I also like to show them het Spookslot (Haunted Castle) as a hidden gem. To bad it's gone now, but I'm looking forward to see Danse Macabre
Mind you, Efteling is not about thrills, or the biggest coasters etc. They are story-tellers. And it shows, because it makes for a very different style of park.
Oh absolutely! We couldn’t agree more! That’s actually more my personal preference in a park. Casey may be slightly more into the thrills but he still really enjoys it all. I like a little bit of everything…theming, dark rides, storytelling, coasters, boat rides etc. Makes for a less chaotic day too I think and very enjoyable that way. Efteling is a very special park. 💕
It looks like this is one of the best, if not the best themepark in all of Europe, because of the style of the this Park. Maybe the Phantasialand is something for you. Phantasiland got aswell roller coasters. I just looked for some video about the Flying Durchman in Efteling. It looks amazing, but i think you will enjoy the Colorado Adventure at the Phantasiland, altough this specific roaller coaste dont have loopings. I do not know any prices, costes at the Phantasialand actuall for food or roller coaster. Just watch TOP 10 Fahrgeschäfte im Phantasialand 2023.
We truly did LOVE Efteling and totally agree that the style of the park is really special and unique. We actually JUST went to Phantasialand and loved it as well for very different reasons…and you’re right! Colorado adventure was so fun and one of the biggest surprises for us actually! The parks in Europe have been next level and hopefully we get to revisit many times during the year!
Toko is shop in Indonesian. Prepare to meet a LOT of Indonesian in the Netherlands 🙂 Great choice for food! Different from Thai, Chinese, Japanese or Korean!
Amazing video! Always awesome to see people from all around the world visiting "our" Efteling in the Netherlands ❤ For the pronounce: if there is a IJ in a word you say it sort of the same as " I " ( as in "I am" and " I " in "line" ). So Ravelijn would be the same as Raveline.
the specific building style was done drunk :D now its not allowed any moor and they have to build the way they used to do it but than sober. nothing is straight, you hardly can do that sober. a good builder intentionally doing it(wrong) is difficult. so Anton pieck would give his workers a good drink before they build. :D Raveleijn is also a show to watch on dvd or some.. not shire is they have an Engliche translated version. but is they do.. watch it :D it shows you the story way better than the show. :D
Next time you really need to go on droomvlucht, it’s the best dark ride in the efteling. Also carnaval festival is a must do, and the same fore Joris and the dragen (Joris en de draak)! :)
We LOVED Droomvlucht which we were able to get to along with Joris en de Draak. We didn’t get to Carnival though so it’s def on our list when we revisit! So excited to have gotten passes as we want to spend considerably more time here and check out their hotels as well! ✨
Thank you so much!! We really appreciate it! Great show and we can’t wait to go back and watch it again! We have had so many lovely comments helping us piece the story together! 🤗💕
Thank you so much! haha yes we promise we knew that. 😂 We put a clarifier at 1:53 because we realized in speaking about Germany that it ended up sounding that way lol.
Hmm we will have to read more into it. What we found online says he was for a brief period in the 80s and then was abandoned and I’m not sure if it’s saying it switched back to Pardoes or if it’s saying it switched to Pardoes. Just what we are reading but we will try to look for some other info online and see what we can find. Thank you 🤗
@@CompassChronicleTravels No. I found in my research that indeed Jokie had a more important role as a 'unofficial mascotte' in the 80s for a short time, but that was it. Pardoes always has been it for Efteling. 🙂
@@crownbricks ahhhh ok that makes sense. We were def a bit unclear with how what we found was worded when we revisited it. We do love Pardoes though! He’s a really fun character! Didn’t get to the Carnival this trip but curious to ride it as well!
The Efteling was the first that started with the amrotronics at the fatamorgana. The Efteling was the first park that started with robots in an amusement park and patented it right away.
Oh wow! How interesting!! Definitely want to learn more about this. We are both suckers for animatronics, and also we didn’t know they had patents for certain elements. Such a great park!
@@CompassChronicleTravels It was pure innovation. Also, the consulted a professor of Arabic from Leiden University and he wrote the lines in phonetic Arabic. Family members of the engineers recorded the lines in phonetic Arabic for the animatronics. So endearing. I'm so glad they're keeping it. Such a big piece of Efteling history.
Yes! We have heard murmurings of that. I could definitely see that being the case. There is a similar magical feeling the park gives you but more realistic in a way? Such a unique park that we are in love with! 😍
@@mvdh877Not the truth, its just a rumor. They actually did consult Efteling for advice for building Disneyland Paris, but there is no proof Walt Disney himself visited Efteling. Remember Efteling was still a very small park untill the 1980s
Thank you so much! And lovely! We will go back to see the water show one of these times that it’s open later and gets dark for it. From what we have seen online the park looks stunning at night!
Haha yes we did know, but there is text on the screen at the 1:53 mark that clarifies. We realized in listening back that in our excitement we didn’t specify clearly because of speaking about doing life in Germany content. It was actually our first time leaving Germany since moving here which was so fun! Think it’s become force of habit to say we are “here” bc of only having been in Germany up until that point. Made for a good laugh while editing though. 🤣🤣
18:23 efteling got inspired by Disney with their pirates of the caribbean ride but nit wanting to copy paste the ride the efteling made is middle eastern/morrocan themed Edit : at raveleijn you can ask an employee for a english tape with headset so you could follow the story as well they have english, german and france
@@koenstaps9351 i thought there was or was it removed? U rememberd some guys sayed there was or is it some sort of mandela effect that some remember there was but all the while there wasnt
Thank you both for the thoughtful responses! Loveeee that Efteling took that inspiration and really made it their own! While there is a similar mood, the entire experience definitely feels its own. That was actually one of my favorite things about it!
You guys knew there were translators for the Ravelijn show right??? 😂. The Efteling made an entire series of Ravelijn. About it’s pronunciation though, Dutch has ‘ij’ as a letter with a separate pronunciation, different from i and j. But Ravelin, is also understandable. I recommend you don’t learn Dutch. It makes no sense at all, lol
Awe really? For us we absolutely loved it but everyone is different and I’m sure it partially just depends on preference. We really enjoyed the variety of ride type and lots of indoor and outdoor options and loved the theming. The parks here in Europe on the whole so far have been incredible. We have loved all that we have been to so far, but they’re all different. Great because you have lots of variety there if you prefer one thing over the other 🤗
I've never been to Efteling (yet) but the Dive Coaster really looked fun ^^ so that might be my favorite ride in that park. But I don't know what else is there so i'm looking forward to part 2 and maybe change my mind :D Love those speaking trash cans btw xD But I was confused why it said "Dankeschön" and not "dank je well"? Was that a German themed part of the park? Or does every trash can speak a different language and you just happened to randomly feed the German one? xD
I think you’d really like it! It’s a really magical park that we LOVED!!! And unfortunately one of the big coasters was closed that day and one other water coaster that’s supposed to be incredible we were worried about with the weather. We are trying to get back for those right away here. As for the trash cans, GREAT QUESTION! When we go back we will see if we can get an answer for that. Not sure if it rotates languages or if there are specific ones with specific languages. Now we are super curious 🤔🤔. Aren’t they fun though? Maybe we should install one in the house 😆
Holle Bolle Gijs Is a figure originated from a old folk/children rhyme as far back as the 19th century but possible older, it translates in English to something like this: ''Have you heard of the Big round cart What was that hollow-bulged Gijs on? He could munch, big chunks A cow and a calf and a whole horse half An ox and a bull and seven tons of beer A ship full of turnips and a church full of sheep And still Gijs couldn't sleep from hunger!'' They make them say thank you in different languages for international travellers (in the Arabian dark ride some animatronics do the same) so it's not due to the theming of the park. And very smart they put the vacuum system in because now it's entertaining to throw garbage away instead of a hassle.
Indeed. The specific one they picked was at the max and moritz part of the park. Indeed german themed area so therefore it said it in german. Almost every single one holle bolle gijs says something different based on where it's at etc.
De Bokkerijder, A local folklore about a gang that roamed in Belgium, Limburg and West Germany around 1750-1800, plundering houses and buisnesses. (og), since the Efteling is located slightly north or that region, they made a story that fits more local. it focus point is around Tilburg, where the leader and his members where plunderinge a house of god, a Abbey in Postel (Belgium). They robbed the place, just before the leader leaves the abbey he did got a warning from a spirit, he ignored the warning, went home, and his house was haunted, the curse that he get can only be undone when a noble person with the clear conscience like that of a newborn child enters your house will you find peace in your home and in your heart.
Super interesting! If our stomachs can take it we may go on again since we know the story! Would be really interesting going back to things following the storyline a bit more. We loved the park!
Yessss! We are really looking forward to that one next year!! Is it true they are preserving elements from Spookslot? That’s what we heard but can’t be certain. That would be great though!
@@CompassChronicleTravels Elements of Spookslot will be returning in the new ride, but most of it will not. Danse Macabre is ofcourse based off of Spookslot and its music, but things like the backstory and animatronics (most of them) will be replaced. The only animatronic known to stay in the ride is the violin, that plays on its own and directs the tombs and ghouls to play along. Some of the other animatronics will be kept in a special storage, along with other old animatronics, signs and carts. Maybe some will appear in the Efteling Museum at Het Anton Pieck Plein. :)
Yes, we do know that. 💕 We know it was unclear which is why we placed a clarification at 1:53 on the video. Was our first time leaving Germany since being here and we are just in the habit of saying “we’re here”. Haha. Was funny when we edited though bc we heard how it sounded as well.
thank you very much for uploading the video of your trip, but most of all I wanna thank you for your positive comments about the park and your experience! I really "hate" it and I am always a bit dissapointed when guys from the United states compare each european amusement park to to the vastness and attractions that Disneyland, Disneys magic kingdom or Universal studios in Florida have to offer without even mentioning/comparing the price/fee/entrance costs and the millionsof Dollars the companies that created these attractions can afford to build places like that. I think that compared to the sheer size of the european parks, the number of visitors and the few months of sunshine (compared to places like florida or california) most european amusement parcs do a very good job, are very family friendly and offer lots of fun for everyone at an affordable price during the few months of the year they are opened for the public. Great video, thanks for uploading and thumbs up!!!
Awe well thank you so much for the very kind comment! They truly always make our day! 🤗💕. We probably fall into the trap of comparison at times as well 🙈, but I think more so as a way to connect it to viewers back in the states as well and help them discover these incredible places they may not seek out otherwise. We find the European parks to be so special and unique and each sort of take on a personality all their own and have actually preferred them to the parks back home! There is a real charm about them that we just haven’t felt before elsewhere. We LOVEDDDD Efteling and got season passes so we will be back! Can’t wait to see it during different holidays as well. And we totally agree on cost. It’s so much more reasonable for individuals and families and for us, more immersive!
Haha yes! There is a correction on the screen at 1:53. We realized when editing that it sounded like we were implying Germany, but we did know it was in the Netherlands 😆😆. Thank you! 💕💕
That’s what we keep hearing! We could definitely see that. There is a similar emotion we felt that the park gives you, however very different in personality. It’s such a unique park and we are ready to go back again!
Oh perfect! Thank you! And yes, I am a sucker for theming and really a well rounded park that has a little bit of everything. Theming, charm, dark rides, coasters, storytelling, live shows, etc. Efteling really ticks all of those boxes. Incredible experience for all!
If you want the original Disney, this park is it. This park was there before Disney made theirs. And yes, Disney stole the concept and ideas which is why so many attractions in both parks are the same or similar. But yeah, the themepark originated in the Netherlands, not in the US as many would love to believe ;)
It’s definitely magical 🤩. We truly were blown away by it and had heard he’d been inspired by some European parks. So thankful to be able to visit such a lovely place!
The goatriders at first were a legend, basically witches and satan etc. But in the 1700s they were an actual real life group of robbers and extortioners who stole from everybody and murdered lots of people for 50 years. There were a lot of confessions, 500 people were convicted, but those people were tortured, so, you know. Supposedly people who joined the gang swore an oath to the devil, and renounced god, so the trials against the goatriders were more or less in the same vein as the witch trials, they took place around the same time. Nowadays they think the gang were actually multiple gangs rather than a single big one. The guy in the house, Hugo, is supposed to be the leader of the goatriders, and you're in his house. He robbed an abbey, and was cursed by a lady for it, she's on the top of the house. The curse causes the room to spin, and Hugo to be trapped there. Only a completely innocent soul can lift the curse, but apparently none of the visitors have been innocent enough. :)
Efteling doesn’t do storytelling…. They create some scenes where you need to think or make your own story of it…. So Fata Morgana is not a story just an experience…. And you need to know it is made in the late 80’s so it’s an old darkride I believe they will be full restored this summer… to make it shine again… Droomvlucht is also,a 90’s product… so again an nostalgic ride for a lot of visitors… but that one is fully repaired last winter … My favorite rides are the nostalgic ones (python, droomvlucht, Fata Morgana) and also symbolica, Flying Dutchman and Joris en de draak of the newer rides… The retired ones Pegasus and BOB are also great coasters… but Pegasus was not a smooth ride haha
That’s a really good way of looking at it! I think a lot of really good parks leave some open to interpretation which also really helps take you into the magic and fantasy with your own imagination. Love that! I’m a sucker for nostalgic rides as well so can totally relate to that. Looking forward to riding Fata Morgana again with fresh eyes after reading so many things about it. And curious to see what they do in an update. Haha awe yeah it’s a bummer when classics get retried. We are still looking forward to trying python next time because it was closed that day.
Yup this is True im from de Nederlandse so i know
Im also Netherlands
It started with a swimmingpool
Don't you get tired of doing the same show over and over? I mean, the people change but we are just nameless blobs in the stands.
Fun fact: the mirrors on the sides in Villa Volta (the madhouse) are stationary and never rotate. So if you're in that ride and you're experiencing motion sickness try focusing on the mirrors.
The vases on the cabinets as well ;)
@@Gerrie_de_B. yes those always point up, it's a small illusion-breaker probably done just for that reason of your mind not connecting the right dots causing nausea
-also those ugly black bulges next to the mirrors are cameras for your safety and any sign of trouble they otherwise would miss
@@CompassChronicleTravels That is because we did colonize indonesia for like 25 year or something. But great food :D
@@rmyikzelf5604 we had heard that about Trivoli! Definitely considering a visit there as well. Looks quite beautiful too!
Same
@@CompassChronicleTravels Trivoli and Efteling are literally the two oldest themeparks in the world.
Thank you for making this vlog. So cool to see that you had such an amazing time.
Food tip for the next time you visit the Efteling: go eat a pancake at Polles Keuken! they have so many kinds of pancakes and theyre all amazing!!
The Efteling is amazing. I come to much there! Fun fact. The baron 1898 is one of the newest attractions from the Efteling and over 30 meters high (34,5 meters) and you always wait 5 seconds before u fall! Greets from Belgium 🇧🇪
There also used to be a tv show of Ravelijn! Probably one of my favorite childhood tv series tbh
in the fata morgana gift shop you can buy a room spray with the scent of the ride, i reccomend you get it , to bring the efteling back to your home :)
Yes!! We just found out about that! That is amazing and we will definitely be picking it up when we go next!
The music in Efteling is great! So glad you enjoyed it as much as me
Oh my goodness yes! It is absolutely excellent 👌🏼 👌🏼 Agreed!
Love to see this as a dutchie!!!
Thank you so much! We have absolutely fallen in love with Efteling!
Fata Morgana means lucid dream it occurs in the desert when you haven’t drank enough water
Really haven't heard of Eftelimg Park before.... I, as a German, will definitely take my son over there for sure!!!!
Yes! Highly recommend! It’s a really incredible park and I think you two would have a great time! 🤗
I've been there last weekend, your son will love it
What an awesome Park!
Love Fata Morgana ( inspired by 1001 Nights) and Dreamflight which is Fairies and forestdwellers.
We are definitely going to give Fata Morgana another re-ride after learning more about it, and we LOVED Dreamflight!
@@djokealtena2538 oooo will look that up! Hadn't heard yet about the Sinbad ride! Thank you!
fun fact, you can hand in the drinking bottles for ' statiegeld'.
Such a special park!
going next week. for the first time. cant wait
Great Videos, you are so pleasant! Best wishes from northern Germany!
It really was! What a beautifully imagined park! So much detail, quality, and heart ✨
What a lovely way to look at it! We agree! It was just such a special park and definitely made our day!
@@CompassChronicleTravels ❤️❤️
Fun fact from the Efteling office you can look into the arena from ravelijn so the back houses are connected to the office do if you look good you can see workers true the windows
Oh my gosh!! Love that!! Now THAT’S a view from the office!! 🤩
what, nice that you were there, I also live in the Netherlands and I live in Eindhoven and it is not that far from me😊
That’s wonderful! It’s such a great park and we always feel very welcomed there and have such a fantastic time!
We will have to venture out and try some other places on the next trip…we have seen there are some very well themed indoor places too 🤗
It is truly a beautiful park from what I have seen.
It definitely is! Something really special about this one. Just has a very unique vibe that makes you want to come back time and time again.
I have been to the efteling two times and one of those times was this last summer, was a fun week at the Efteling,
Glad you enjoyed my childhood park. Be sure to return next year because of some new attractions!
Yes! Excited to try Danse Macrabre when it opens! We heard they are preserving the music and certain elements from Spookslot possibly? Now that would be pretty cool to see!
@@CompassChronicleTravels yes they are gonna do and i'm looking forward to it also you can watch progress on there official youtube channel

The donutshopis a abended windmill, a dutch thing. The donut origally was introduced by a dutchman in the USA. Donuts originated from adaptations to the Dutch oliebol.
Without a doubt THE themepark in the Netherlands, others follow at a fair distance (although Slagharen and Helendoorn might come close when it comes to nostalgia for the Dutch)
Pardoes was added in 1989 as mascotte.
Great channel!!
The Efteling started as a swimming pool after they got the python and after the got more attactions and now it is a big park
Disney looked at Efteling for the quality of the dark rides
Please tell me you go and visit Droomvlucht in the next video! It's an older dark ride but for me it's pure nostalgia, as a kid it was one of the most magical experiences and even as an adult I still haven't visited Efteling if I didn't go into Droomvlucht
Yes, we do go on Droomvlucht! 🤩🤩🤩. What a stunner of a dark ride! I want to go back on it right now!! I can’t imagine growing up with it. It must hold so much magic and nostalgia!
26:23 theres a dutch/english youtube channel called 'theme park science' and they have a video about how madhouses work
if i remember correctly, they have a dutch version and an english version of each video
also the backstory: the goat riders are a gang of criminals that wreck and steal stuff, the guy in the second preshow explains how they stole from a church and his house got cursed, hence why it now will never stop moving
Oh wow! Thank you for that info on the pre-show! It was a long one so we were definitely wondering more about the storyline. We will definitely look up that channel. Would be fascinating to see how that works!
The voice is Jules Croiset, a rather controversial and well known actor.
It was also the first one of it's kind and some copied it
I was looking for an explanation of Villa Volta translated in English. Especially what the animatronic is saying in the beginning. This is what i found:
The legend of Villa Volta is played on audio during the pre shows.
So repent, and seek not to call the Lord's wrath upon you ....'
But I, I overcame my fear, dismissed her with scornful laughter and shoved her away roughly.
Great video! What did you use for recording the onride in Baron 1898?
Really enjoyed your video! Themepark science has a video that explains how Villa Volta works (although filmed in another park). Would recommend!

Hey I loved the video and I also love the efteling and mostly the Raveleijn show and here is a short version of the story line of the park show.
@@CompassChronicleTravels oh, thats cool. I hope you gonna upload a video about Phantasiland soon!
Toko is shop in Indonesian. Prepare to meet a LOT of Indonesian in the Netherlands 🙂 Great choice for food! Different from Thai, Chinese, Japanese or Korean!
Not that it's a bad show now, but the old Raveleijn show was much better in my opinion.
Amazing video! Always awesome to see people from all around the world visiting "our" Efteling in the Netherlands ❤
For the pronounce: if there is a IJ in a word you say it sort of the same as " I " ( as in "I am" and " I " in "line" ).
I visite 2 times 🙂 im dutch 🇳🇱 raveleijn its about kids who go to a magical gate and turn in knights on horses and turned in adults.
Thank you so much!! We really appreciate it! Great show and we can’t wait to go back and watch it again! We have had so many lovely comments helping us piece the story together! 🤗💕
i am dutch also but i havent been in the efteling for over 30 years now...shame on me lol
Fun. Sassy goes to Germany. But Efteling is a themepark in the Netherlands!
Thank you so much! haha yes we promise we knew that. 😂 We put a clarifier at 1:53 because we realized in speaking about Germany that it ended up sounding that way lol.
Jokie from Jokie en Jet of the Carnaval Festival is NOT the former original mascotte of the park. That always has been Pardoes.
@@CompassChronicleTravels You should visit Carnaval Festival. Major classic. ❤️
@@crownbricks we definitely will when we go back! May do a 2 day trip next time...definitely a park we easily could spend multiple days in.
Fata Morgana is becoming the water fietsen (fiets = bike
Such a big piece of Efteling history.
at the moment there is even an exhibition in the museum of the efteling in the north brabants museum
Oh very cool! We are wanting to get back within the next few weeks here so we will add that to the list to check out!
The Efteling is 140 soccer fields in size .
Story goes, that Walt Disney visited the Efteling, to get tips and inspiration for his own parks
Yes! We have heard murmurings of that. I could definitely see that being the case. There is a similar magical feeling the park gives you but more realistic in a way? Such a unique park that we are in love with! 😍
that's not a story
that is the truth
@@mvdh877Not the truth, its just a rumor. They actually did consult Efteling for advice for building Disneyland Paris, but there is no proof Walt Disney himself visited Efteling. Remember Efteling was still a very small park untill the 1980s
Ravelijn you can get a mp3player in english
You said the name pardoes pretty good the only difference is the accent you say the name in and in the summer it is open till 9.00 if i say it good
Thank you so much! And lovely! We will go back to see the water show one of these times that it’s open later and gets dark for it. From what we have seen online the park looks stunning at night!
Designer of the efteling: ruclips.net/video/M3u9z1c7JZ8/видео.html
Even Walt Disney came to the Efteling to learn how to build a park.
I wish people would stop spreading this myth.
Maybe i missed it.. but looking at your intro, i'm wondering if you guys even knew the efteling is in the netherlands and not germany
OG Walt Disney took ideas from efteling to build Disneyland
We keep hearing that! Very interesting! We love Efteling!!
18:23 efteling got inspired by Disney with their pirates of the caribbean ride but nit wanting to copy paste the ride the efteling made is middle eastern/morrocan themed
Edit : at raveleijn you can ask an employee for a english tape with headset so you could follow the story as well they have english, german and france
Hi here is an employee at Ravelelijn! For this version of the show we unfortunately don't have a translation device available.
When the J is after an I like this : IJ then it’s a Y
Thank you so much! That’s very helpful!
The theming is great but the rides are pretty boring, the park could really use a thrill coaster.
i agree, i feel like the park is a little overrated
But I don't know what else is there so i'm looking forward to part 2 and maybe change my mind :D
Love those speaking trash cans btw xD But I was confused why it said "Dankeschön" and not "dank je well"?
@@CompassChronicleTravels right? The trash can question has to have top priority on your next Efteling trip! 🤣 And then the coasters^^
Holle Bolle Gijs Is a figure originated from a old folk/children rhyme as far back as the 19th century but possible older, it translates in English to something like this:
''Have you heard of the Big round cart What was that hollow-bulged Gijs on? He could munch, big chunks A cow and a calf and a whole horse half An ox and a bull and seven tons of beer A ship full of turnips and a church full of sheep And still Gijs couldn't sleep from hunger!''
They make them say thank you in different languages for international travellers (in the Arabian dark ride some animatronics do the same) so it's not due to the theming of the park.
There is a museum in the park
Awesome! We will def go next time! 🤗
I am sure you can find the mu sic here on YT, so you can mentally revisit it.
yes, definitely! It's nice to have it here and also on CDs for the car. Wonderful music to put on while working too 💕
De Bokkerijder, A local folklore about a gang that roamed in Belgium, Limburg and West Germany around 1750-1800, plundering houses and buisnesses.
There is comming a new attraction called dansb macabere it is a spooky themed attraction
@@faytjuhhhhh6145 really cool! And that would be great to see some of the pieces in the museum! Will keep an eye out for that in case they pop up.
Efteling is in the netherlands
It is in My land🇳🇱i love it❤
We loved it too!! Beautiful place!
Thanks
if you use the word Eye its the same sound as ij => ra ve l "eye" n
Oh perfect!! Thank you! That’s super helpful!
Hello u know efteling is in the Netherlands ? 😘❤️
Haha yes! There is a correction on the screen at 1:53. We realized when editing that it sounded like we were implying Germany, but we did know it was in the Netherlands 😆😆. Thank you! 💕💕
In the fifty´s Walt Disney himself visit the Efteling.
That’s what we keep hearing! We could definitely see that. There is a similar emotion we felt that the park gives you, however very different in personality. It’s such a unique park and we are ready to go back again!
, spark came before Disney
Indonesian food
You pronounced Pardoes correctly.
Efteling is a family park and it’s all about theming.
Spookslot is pronounced like spoke slot.
Oh perfect!
Oh no! Lol we didn’t stop the curse! 🫣🫣. Haha thank you so much for the story! 💕
Spook is ghost
Efteling doesn’t do storytelling…. They create some scenes where you need to think or make your own story of it….
So Fata Morgana is not a story just an experience…. And you need to know it is made in the late 80’s so it’s an old darkride
I believe they will be full restored this summer… to make it shine again…
Droomvlucht is also,a 90’s product… so again an nostalgic ride for a lot of visitors… but that one is fully repaired last winter …
My favorite rides are the nostalgic ones (python, droomvlucht, Fata Morgana) and also symbolica, Flying Dutchman and Joris en de draak of the newer rides…
The retired ones Pegasus and BOB are also great coasters… but Pegasus was not a smooth ride haha
