One of the most tragically short-lived bands ever. :( I saw Rose MacDowall live in London about twelve years ago, and she was amazing. As for this video, yeeeow....that dress and those boots! I think I need to lie down for a bit now.

This song has always been so amazing, in 1985 i would have been so diehard into Arcadia's So Red the Rose album that I didn't appreciate all the other incredible talent in British music, sadly those days are all long gone now.
They were my 15 year old crush. I thought they were completely exotic and untouchable and the song cemented their allure in my hormone raging mind. I wore this single out. Scotland produced a lot of amazing music in the 1980's.

I wouldn't say this was underrated. everyone i know says they love it. #5 was a good position to reach in a time when nearly every release was as fantastic as this.
They played at Plymouth Academy back in the 80s i met Rosie after at the bar bought her a drink, let's say we were getting on ,till someone had a word then she left I was gutted loved her Glasgwigen accent though
Melissa the horns at the beginning aren't sampled from the 1974 hit 'Beach Baby' by the UK band the First Class, but do, as is the same in the case of 'Beach Baby', incorporate a phrase from the last movement of Sibelius' Fifth Symphony....
The horns at the beginning are sampled from Beach Baby, which is a 60s song, so perhaps that is why it sounds 60s to you, Andrew Dexter. Also, Rose's voice has a little 60s pop sound to it, at times. I love them so much. Ever since they became known in the US in '85.
Mixed memories of this song stuck in bed for three weeks with a hideous infection. Then dragged off to hospital and I missed the girls big show on Top of the plops. Darn it !
I was 11 when this came out. I was clearly very impressionable as I developed an immediate and long lasting love of pretty girls with huge hair and killer makeup 🤘🏻😍🤘🏻

There was a Sixties psychedelic revival in the early to mid ‘80’s. As always, there’s a 20 year turn over in fashion. I loved this stuff at the time I was 15.
I agree! I went to Glasgow last year and had an amazing time exploring the city. So much great musical heritage too. Strawberry Switchblade were such a great band!
there's something really sad about Jill miming the guitar when there's no actual guitar on the track. I loved the early Strawberry Switchblade stuff with its dreamy guitars, I wish they hadn't gone all electro-pop, kinda ruined it for me, but I'll always love them
why is Rose(??) playing guitar on this lipsynch. There is no guitar, or bass or drums for that matter, in the mix. Still good poprock from these synthpoppers.

The synth hooks, harmonies, and sensual mystique was a winning formula for these girls. I just wish there was more material.
has a great lightness and fun element, missing from pop music and world today
I adored Rosie back then. She was one gorgeous babe!
Agreed👍

Another hugely underrated track that should have been a number one.
At 15 I was so in love with rose . Couldn't wait for top of the pops .
