We were obsessed with the 60s and nostalgic for it during the 80s. We teenagers thought it was an ideal time of freedom and counterculture because there was so much social conservatism backlash. Also baby boomers were getting old so that fueled it as well.
And for the last 40 years I've been sworn it was the Bangles that did this song. I even searched it out that way, and I did not even know that it was Tracey Ullman doing this. You think I would have recognized her cuz I used to watch the show.
She was amazing i think of the best female singers of all time. As a man in his 40's this bring me to tears remember listening to this in the car with my mum and dad who recently died within a few weeks of one other. She was a beautiful lady as well not just a super talent.

If anything, Groening’s work made her show more popular (it did in our house). That’s why she lost when she tried to sue him for taking his own creation out on his own, to have his own show when it was offered to him. Suing him to take it from him as if her show owned his creation and work was disappointing to those of us who were fans of both of them. She deserved to lose.

I first watched the video of it in December of that same year, I was not introduced to her show until I was already in the Navy in 1991, that's when I thought to myself, "Is there anything this woman can't do? Impersonating men, elderly people, and even the occasional homless person." Multi-talanted? Understatement.
I can't help but smile when I hear and see this. This song more than any other takes me back to the happiest time of my life when I was 24. Tracey is pure magic gold. Brilliant talent and commedienne. Oh and she is also the reason we have the best comedy of all time, the Simpson's!
This is a song that somehow just makes me happy, don't know exactly why, but it does it every time. Sort like Mmmm Bop by Hansen. I know it's a silly little pop ditty but it's awesome because it does what music is supposed to do sometimes: transport you away for just a little bit from your worries and cares, if for only about 3 minutes.
