Obviously the engineer of that has never had to do a brake job with his own design... Great job once again Jim.
You have to love some of the stuff that these engineers do.
I just finished doing the rear brakes on my 14 sonata....thanks for posting this video it saved me a lot of time and elbow grease
So nice engineers make it so EASY for mechanics to work on stuff. Great video Jim!
Hi Jim . . . My son has this same car and have to do the same job your showing in this video now I know what I am up against
thanks for showing this video to all of us - have a nice day !
Excellent video with very detailed direction of all instances.
The old grind'er down trick works like a champ. Nice and clear video
It works great and it will save me time the next time I see this car. Merry Christmas Glen.
Tremendous help doing my sons brakes. Thank you for the video.
Glad to help
Good information as always
Thank you Jim Happy Holidays to you and your family!.
Thank you Lon. Merry Christmas and a happy new your.
Great job Jim. You answered my question before I could ask it about the bolt direction. Lol.
1keykneedeep For me too.....I was actually typing the question about bolt direction when he answered it. My 11 Sonata will need brakes this summer so this was really timely! Would never have expected to have to remove a bolt from the suspension! Pretty sure I will be installing it backwards.😬
Totally agree with putting everything back factory, why? Insurance companies and lawyers. Now days when there is a serious or deadly accident they micro inspect everything from mechanical work to previous body work. I have been to seminars and was shocked at what I heard from the lawyers. Liability, liability and more liability. Thanks for the video Jim. Semper Fi, USMC.
Lol all except for the part that's grinded off... put it back the way it came off he says ... lmao 🤣 I'm pretty sure grinding off part of the bolt makes it weaker than just reversing it. Insurance companies would have a field day with a grinded bolt head lol. If you look up oxymoron in the dictionary a link to this video would be in the definition.
I'm the number 3 guy to hit the thumbs up. Cool video thanks for sharing. I hope you are having a blessed week.
Thanks for watching.
very good video father
Nice job simple an to the point...on way to doing mine.. also doing fronts do you have vedio on does? I need torque specs please thank you..
Thank you for your time making these videos. I have an issue that you haven't made a video for. Sorry to be off topic but I can't find anyone to help. I'm having issues with my trunk shocks on my 2010 G37 convertible. First question: Do they make better/stronger shocks for my car?? The trunk is too heavy for the oem shocks. Now they won't even hold up the truck. Second question: how do I replace them? No videos on RUclips for Infinity trunks much less a coverable. Any help or advice from anyone is greatly appreciated.
I've replaced the rear rotors and pads on my 2010 sonata multiple times. It's not the easiest thing, but you absolutely do not have to remove the control arm.
Merry Christmas Jim! May I know if you have a video for 2016 and up for Hyundai Tucson? Thanks!
I have to do this exact job this weekend.
What size is the centering tool?
I do not have the luxury a grinding down one side of the bolt so do you have any suggestions on how to reinstall it the bolt?
Are the OEM brake pads made by Sangsin?
Good video. Very clear. Good explanation of installing the strut bolt the other way with the nut near the shock. That is the way my Azera has it installed. A bit easier to remove and install. Crappy design. Getting the holes in line for the strut bolt is a pain.
Hey I just did this process to my mothers car (very irate with the engineer) lol but I was wondering if you could help me out. Ah messaged me today saying that the brakes are locking when she goes in reverse. Any clue as to why? I’m going to attempt to correct the issue any and all advice is helpful.
A warm December day. Lol
Thank you for the video you could leave the screw from the other side and you not will need to grind it and make easy next time.
I have had trouble with aftermarket brake hardware many times. Not made right and end up rubbing on the break rotors
Yeah me too. Would never seat right. And rubbing. Save and clean original hardware.
I spent 2 hours trying to make it work, then I went to parts store and got the hardware kit for that car and it worked perfectly, those kits that come with the pads are too generic
does taking that rear part off affect the alignment?
I was replacing my shocks also. So I had to jack up the lower control arm. By doing that (and lubing the upper control arm bushing) all I had to do was jack up and the control arm popped back into place. Minor alignment with a punch.
So you made it harder on yourself by not removing the lower shock bolt...
agreed I do it the same way
Instead of grinding the bolt down, can you just put it in there the opposite direction?
Very good question..
@@eightiesgod YES YOU CAN
Hey Jim, just did this job and turned that bolt around so the next time it'll come out. I stared at this job in disbelief for 30 min before I got started lol! Thanks for the video man. After I got done I was searching around to see how others did it and found this. You remember what you charged for labor?
Thanks for watching. Labor was 2 hours.
@@jimthecarguy thanks man!!
Well I thought I was crazy till I seen this video.Never seen this design in my life and I hope I never do again.
Pay attention youngsters, this is old school, by the book, only one way, the right way.
So I’ll try to put the boat back in that you grind dude I can’t get the piece lined up because the center rubber piece keeps going sideways. This is ridiculous.
Save the old brake hardware
Rule #1 always wire brush Calipers braket,Rule #2 when you first moved the Caliper back and forth and realized the pins where little stuck ALWAYS Remove the Pins and wire brush inside where the pins goes and grease them up Again Remember good Perfect work satisfy costumers. Other than tha you good.im doing rear Brakes and Caliper for a new costumer I have I do Mechanic on the spot where u go to people's house and fix their car is what I do for a Living.
1st BOOM
Thank you for stoping by Leon.
If the nut comes of the bolt for some reason the force from forward travel will keep the bolt from falling out and causing a major problem , I’m a helicopter mechanic, most of the hardware installed on a rotor wing aircraft is the head of the bolt installed in the direction of flight or the direction of rotation so centrifugal force keeps the bolt in place, saving your ass from disaster 😢also self locking nuts , safety wire installed positive lock insure safety
I don't understand how u put stuff back the way they came out except for the chunk that you grinded away. Just put the bolt back in the other way and don't risk destroying the bolt by grinding it.... makes no sense at all to do it ur way.
Where are you located?
He's in New Jersey.
Very detailed and thorough job. Great work. Just need your opinion about other videos to do same without taking control arm bolt out. which appeared to be difficult to even pro like yourselves. following video appears to be much easier and quicker. Is there any risk doing that way? ruclips.net/video/znhSJhmRdWo/видео.html Thanks.
That is the dumbest design. I can do the Elantra's without taking anything apart but those Sanata's are awful. Merry X-Mas Jim
