  • After doing a few improvements on the inside, I go out to make a long overdo renovation to the outside of my cabin. With a little music and dance, you may soil yourself! Get the dirt on my biggest project yet!
NOTE: I generally give material costs in fixing up the cabin, but not labor. For the sake of those budgeting, this cost me more than $5000 Cdn or $3700 US which included labor, disposal, material and rental.

That was a big "chunk of change" but the results were well worth it. As enamored as I am with all your camping videos, this "This Old House" series is just as good if not better. Thanks for bringing me along!

For what he paid to get that done wasn't all that bad really...I was expecting a cost double what he posted.....so not bad, and he got what he needed...yep, even with all that fancy equipment you still are going to have to put in some manual labor to finish things off, but it looks really good...and I like your "This Old House" reference.

Great video Slim. The excavator ballet was genius!!!
That retaining post you buried is called a Deadman and is a typical way to add stability. You also might consider planting small shrubs in the open portion of the hollow block for both landscaping and so the roots help with stability. Lining the driveway edges with rocks will help with stability and be a nice landscaping element.
Your cabin is coming along nicely!!!

I find it fascinating to watch a skilled, heavy equipment, operator work. I'm glad you're getting your drive and parking as you like them. You might consider planting a tree in that corner of the trailer pad. The roots will further stabilize that dirt and help hold things together nicely. Eventually the logs will rot but the tree should still be holding.

Never underestimate the power of water and how good it is at moving a mountain if there is enough of it.
Even from a very early age I always enjoyed watching a JCB at work. I once met Mr JCB (Joseph Cyril Bamford) the inventor of the very first hydraulic digger. I was about 10 years old at the time, and he let me have a go in their latest new swing shovel model.
