Collagen Benefits | Why Men Need More Collagen Than Women | Muscle Growth & Recovery- Thomas DeLauer
    Hair, Skin & Nails:
Study - Skin Research and Technology
Subjects comprised 173 men and women, divided into four groups according to age.
Photographs were taken from nine facial regions and used to classify the intensity of wrinkles into five grades.
In all age groups, men showed increased forehead wrinkles compared with women.
In contrast, no gender-dependent differences were found in upper eyelid wrinkles. Other facial wrinkles were greater in men than in women in all except the oldest group (age, 65-75 years), in which wrinkles in women were greater than or equal to those in men.
Results showed that gender-dependent differences exist in the degree of facial wrinkles - but, in general, men tend to have more severe wrinkles than women.
This tendency disappeared or was reversed in some regions of the face and in individuals more than 60 years old.
    www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2...
    Recovery:
    Muscle Fibers-
A study published in Experimental Physiology found that with strength training women’s muscle fibers are converted to type I fibers, whereas in men they generally change to type IIa fibers.
Type I muscle fibers are more efficient over long periods of time - mainly used for postural maintenance (such as holding the head upright), or endurance exercises (like marathon running).
Type II muscle fibers use anaerobic respiration and are better for short bursts of speed.
The result is that women are more resistant to fatigue than men, even when women and men with the same strength level are compared.
    physoc.onlinelibrary.wiley.co...
    Muscle Mass:
Between 1-10% of muscle tissue is composed of collagen, and, as such, it is necessary to keep your muscles strong and functioning properly
Study - British Journal of Nutrition
In one study, 27 frail men took 15 grams of collagen while participating in an exercise program daily for 12 weeks.
Compared to men who exercised but did not take collagen, they gained significantly more muscle mass and strength.
Aside from collagen comprising muscle tissue, researchers also concluded that collagen may have improved strength gains due to its positive effect on creatine production.
Collagen contains relatively high amounts of arginine and glycine, both known to be important substrates for the synthesis of creatine in the human body.
    www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/arti...
    Brain Health:
Study - Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS)
The study found that women's brains appear to be about three years younger than men of the same chronological age.
Found that brain ages are an average of 3.8 years younger than the women's chronological ages - men's brains were 2.4 years older than their true ages.
    www.pnas.org/content/116/8/3251
    Collagen & Joints:
Collagen helps maintain the integrity of your cartilage, which is the rubber-like tissue that protects your joints.
With joint pain/arthritis, inflammation stimulates the depletion of proteoglycans and damage to the collagen network and decreases the synthesis of cartilage matrix proteins - decreases cartilage.
Theorized that supplemental collagen may accumulate in cartilage and stimulate your tissues to make collagen.
Collagen hydrolysate ingestion stimulates a statistically significant increase in synthesis of extracellular matrix macromolecules by chondrocytes.
Suggests this may lead to lower inflammation, better support of your joints and reduced pain.

When I reached 38 and my ex husband was 40 … I wanted out because he was abusive( long story )… he told me I was nothing like I was when he met me (at age 23)and I’d never find anyone else … I wasn’t even thinking of taking another man into my life in fact I use to think at night if I ever get rid of him I’m never taking anyone into my life again: it was only when he said this to me did I look at him and think actually how old he had got … the lack of hair and deep lines on his face: 2 weeks later he wanted to go out … he walked a street ahead of me ( usually behavior for him) until we got a taxi … got out he walk into the bar before I’d even walked around the taxi to the door. The bouncer stopped me asked for ID … I thought he was joking and the fact I may have been holding my head down but he said no I need to check your ID. As I was taking my drivers license out of my purse my ex came back out big angry head on him and said what’s up … the bouncer looked at him and turned to me and said it’s ok I see your with your father 😂😂😂…
Anyway where he had aged rapidly probably late 30’s I think now he is in his 50’s he hasn’t aged much since then and looks overall well for his age… it was just a funny moment I thought worth sharing. I would have loved to tell the bouncer that night how what he said put a smile back on my face. My ex said he was just trying to chat me up … but I guess that still meant I had it to attract someone … not that I was planning on that;).
Love your videos .. I’ve watched lots of them but only realized I wasn’t subscribed… I’ve corrected that now. As an ex nurse practitioner I think your advice is spot on .. and you explain it so well.

Thanks for the video! If you're wondering about forms of collagen, capsules are more convenient for traveling, but powder works too and you can't really taste it. There's not going to be a difference in absorption between the powder and the liquid. And finally, collagen does not get absorbed through the skin, so don't count on that when using a cream. On the other hand, you might experience benefits from collagen cream from the other ingredients that tend to be in those creams, like vitamin A!

The old predigested liquid collagen cherry flavor with ox bile was so anabolic, that when you added arginine, it was like a steroid cycle without shutting down your endogenous testosterone. However it was liver toxic so they took it off the market. Collagen protein is so important it should be at the very front of health and recovery. I believe it raised the free testosterone to much higher levels, and responded incredibly to hard workout in the gym, because of it's muscle healing abilities.

As a result, young men, who often are working out in the sun, end up recieving lots of sunlight that depletes their collagen, and as they get older and work in the sun less, they lose less collagen.

Judie you are going to love it! Hands down my favorite supplement been taking for two years now. Skin is softer, hair grows well, nails suck because I play guitar and feel like I clip them every other day lol. My joints in the gym dont break down like they used to either, turn 44 in two months and was leg pressing 600 pounds in the gym a few hours ago and on the weekends I skateboard at the park and my recovery is amazing. Dont be afraid to get in the 20-30-40 grams a day zone you can never have too much but I know it is expensive. May God bless you!

I found this one on Amazon, it's true I have less pain in my bad left elbow which sometimes before I couldn't bend, tennis elbow it's agony but since having collagen I've noticed it hurting less and less even after doing light weights no pain and Yes, my Hair grows faster and thicker, I have a fringe and cut it every 2 weeks, my nails are thick and strong and long and my skin looks great for someone of 51 lol x

Thomas, what were your results, and conclusions on the Carnivore diet?
I've been doing Keto + IF for 16 months, have lost 106 lbs, lowered my HbA1c from levels of 14-22 to levels of 4.7 - 5.4; but have hit a plateau the past few weeks; so I'm going to try the Carnivore diet for a month or two.
Do you think this might help me break through the plateau?

I'd like to give my collages in the morning coffee. However, I heard that collagen is supposed to make you fly out of the ketosis . Is there anything wrong? I'd like to split my 50 grams of collagen. So I'll take the 50 grams in once with the Bone Broth .

Hey, Thomas, you're always hating on carrageenan. Have you considered making a video about most of the stabilizers/stuff-like-that that we can find in the processed foods? Like gellan gum and other stuff... which ones are a total no-go and which ones are acceptable?
I know it's good to go for non-processed as much as possible, but you know, let's be realistic, sometimes it's hard to go full paleo.

Thomas! I have been taking collagen for sometime and realize per instructions on my jar I had been under dosing myself (1 scoop instead of 2 scoops per day)
When I ramped up to 2 scoops after a couple of months, I noticed a toenail that I had been dealing with for years with anti-fungals turned purple like a hematoma.
By this time I had given up on it ever being cured. Well after a month or 2 of trimming and taking my collagen the nail popped off (no pain) and appeared a clear shiny new toenail! It had to be the collagen! Keep up the good work,
and love and blessings to you and your family!✌🏾👍🏾🌈❤️

Same thing happened to me, except it was painful (tender) for a time and I took no collagen whatsoever. The body created a new nail from the bed of the previous nail without collagen supplements.

BTW I am highly impressed with your videos And left eating sugar, bread, rice already. I am having kidney beans, panner(kind of Indian cottage cheese), lentils, curd occasionally. I know some of these foods have carbs and sugar too. What can be perfect Keto diet for Indian vegetarians who wants remain healthy like Americans
