Agreed! I have an ap2 with the modifry short shift kit and nicely weighted shifter. One of the best feelings in the world. With hondas its like the actual shift forks themselves is in your hand. Crisp, and snickety snick. The only other thing that compares is maybe the gt3 with the solid copper bushings. Or maybe the G63 amg.

Source: Had a 10th gen SI that I drove daily, and I enjoyed being able to actually DRIVE it without breaking the speed limit.
Also drove a friend's 450hp type R, it was also very fun, just way faster.
Comparing that to a f30-gen BMW 340i, and a '21 m5 competition; the BMWs, while great and quite a bit of fun to drive, are just too fast to really enjoy on the roads. Having only 200hp, I can max it out all the time, whereas in the BMWs, I can't max them out without getting arrested.

Also note: Despite the car being a lot less expensive, it is still very involving and communicative to drive. Additionally, with the smaller engine, comes more gas mileage (save a bit of $$ on long trips), and you can drive it harder without getting arrested.
A lot of more expensive cars I have driven are not as communicative or "go-kart-y" because they weigh more, and have more insulation / isolation.
Example: Pretty much every single modern BMW (M-cars to SUVs) has completely dead steering. This doesn't mean they are slow, or unpredictable. The M5 is a very well sorted car that can do things that many smaller sports cars can't, even excluding top speed, range, highway comfort... However, the chassis feel is not as good as a small civic. You know what's going on, and its reaction is predictable. However, the civic is more engaging.

The V6 in Honda had uneven cooling within engine bay which Honda learned from. From the rear hot bank and the top intake area, heat is bad for gaskets. Also all gaskets will leak after years have gone by. Gaskets dry and shrink. This engine was given space all around for nice cooling. The car runs too cool for Canadian driving in my opinion and I don't know if it has shutters but it may need them for arctic temps. My 17 has 100k miles and is dry all around. No oil leaks at all. Note that VW/Audi and Ford use plastic oil pans that suffer poor strength and bad sealing. Aluminum conducts and radiates heat better and Honda engines keep aluminum oil pans. They even add strength. Up top Honda valve cover is plastic but it does not matter there as much there.

Two reasons: many mechanical problems occurring, and it had an automatic transmission so I got bored with it. I purchased the Miata in 2017. I'm still enjoying it, even though I use it as my daily driver. I have no regrets.

only con to the civic is the timing belt but you can go pretty far on it before replacement is necessary.

    • @apodski
      @apodski 2 года назад

On top of the timing belt, the tiny struts that blow out like clockwork on Northern potholes. And the exhaust that will most certainly rot out. Those are three issues that are nearly guaranteed to happen within 100k, and cost at least $3k to fix properly. Undersized Honda batteries, starters, and alternators go out twice as often. The bmw does not have those problems in any capacity. I'm not saying everybody should have a bmw, but magic Honda build quality and reliability is often pretty overstated. The e46 is also a standout bmw for cheap, good quality parts and dependability. I've seen a 99 Acura tl far eclipse a 99 bmw 328i on lifetime service costs and breakdowns. However, the bmw e92 m3 of tedward, and many other bmw's, are absolutely not known for cheap good quality parts and dependability, they are nightmares.

I think the BMW-Civic swap is actually quite reasonable. Being a car enthusiast and appreciating practicality aren't mutually exclusive.

This reminds me of how I felt back in 1983 when the Honda dealer called to let me know he had just received 3 new Preludes, and I could choose (was on a waiting list for that 2nd gen Lude). It felt special at the time, and I looked forward to rowing the precise 5 speed with a double wishbone suspension and no tech nannies. Good luck with that sweet Civic.

Damn congrats Tedward! Topher got the new BRZ while you got the Si. Also why did you trade your E92 M3?! Just make it a project car :-

I also just bought one of these I’ve had it for 9 days now, I bought it sight unseen without ever getting to test drive one, trusting all the reviews of people like you and topher who have gotten to drive them, and I absolutely love it, already put almost 800 miles on it.

I also relied on the Topher for this one. We had a lot of phone calls about it 😆

Congrats on the new SI. I felt the same excitement when I got my first car (a 2018 civic hatchback sport). Civics are great cars, hope you enjoy!

Im surprised the new Si has less power and that it doesn't have heated seats, fog lights and dual zone climate control because the Gen 10 did and cost less ($24k). Looks like its missing the camera on the passenger mirror as well. That was a selling point for me when I got the Gen 10 Si
Don't get me wrong, it looks nice and way better than the previous one and it seems to be fantastic. But I'm surprised that its $4k more expensive with less power and less equipment. Best color IMO is the Aegean Blue. I wish there was a Coupe version

We Canadian get all those features lol maybe except for the camera I think they took that off. For me orange is the the color since it's only available for the Si.

@@salecon that is strange....they really limited the options with the Si. I hate that Honda is doing this

Nice car. I wish Honda would add a SI Touring option so we could chose to have the options Canada has, or have the Trim you have.

Feels like Tedward has that enthusiasm of flying a plane again!!! I see Topher got the BRZ and you now have the SI. I got a 2022 elantra n line and that fun factor or just wanting to take a drive is so relatable. Love the channel!!!

Good on you Ted! I just ditched my 2020 Corolla Hybrid for a 2022 3 series cause it’s my treat after my divorce and I’ve always wanted a rwd car. Anyway drive what you like. My 330i has a turbo too and mileage is decent. Puts a smile on my face to floor it!
