      Maybe in America, but here in Europe every country think that that they're probably the next country to be taken. So Russia is talked about a lot. the problem is that while plenty of people talk about Russia because they feel threatened, they don't think Israel will attack us (minority of Muslims in west Europe and Islamophobia is prevalent) so every non leftist kinda just ignore the genocide (even some leftists actually).i guess center of interest really depends on what the people are afflicted by in that area

    Had to have a whole talk with my (partially really conservative, partially liberal) family about politics which boiled down to me saying I do not feel the need to tolerate intolerant people and that yeah I get angry when conservative people use arguments which I know are factually incorrect. But got told that that's my opinion and that's their opinion and that I'll not be happy in life if I end friendships over political differences. Some solid opinions were explained to me but majority I felt were just "just let it go and accept their opinion (even if it's based on misinformation and lies)". Oh well...

    • @liaspring7
      @liaspring7 Месяц назад +3

      What I basically wanted to say was: In this leftist bubble, conservatives are often depicted as people you cannot reason with at all or you should try to "convert". Am I in the wrong for thinking that I just want to coexist with conservatives, but don't accept their opinions if I think it's factually/emotionally/logically bs? Like I could coexist with them if politics don't come up, but the "it's just dark humor why are you jumping straight into a political argument and yeah the fact that I only make such jokes about minorities isn't political at all" people really rile me up. I'm trying to figure out everyone's opinion here while at the same time trying to look outside "our echo-chamber", but at the same time I kinda already believe this. I'm trying to attempt to convince myself that I'm open to changing my mind for the sake of people I hold dearly that say I need to be more open, but I think at the same time that I then fall into the "tolerating intolerance isn't tolerance" trap. Because people say in the future I eventually will need to be more open about who I befriend regardless of political mindset but in the end, politics is all about how we see people, people's actions and people's rights, and I'm honestly simply not open to befriending someone who I know wants certain people to have less rights than others based on arguments that most of the time are debunkable and founded on prejudice.

    • @tankiegirl

    about the tiktok at 11:55 , (relevant info: i am white, transmasc and autistic)
    the idea that the solution is for people to mask doesnt seem like it will work to me, and while ive found masking in certain ways has been helpfull for me in not doing certain microaggressions related to specific social cues but i feel like its not really the best solution for white tears, mostly because not everyone can reliably mask and i feel like "i cant control my facial expressions reliably" is less of an excuse and more a facet of the problem that needs to be accounted for in order for the solution to reliably work if that makes sense,
    i like the solution of just leave though because i personally have very emotional reactions to things and in the past thats whats works the best for me, it does often get seen as sort of rude though so i like to follow up with a text message or if possible in the moment explain why im leaving but its very hard because most often im in a fight or flight response.
    I also want to bring up that for alot of people including myself masking involves playing into social hierarchy and could make some situations worse, pre transition the way i would mask was to act very pitiable and meek, fawning to the maximum kind of thing, and based on personal experience sometimes leaving is seen as less socially acceptable than white tears is if someone is in an environment where the norm is to be racist and ableist and the person is playing into hierarchy with themself in the white woman section. i can see how this could lead to white women tears(intentional or not) being what they default to in a moment of panic.
    because of this i think an essential part of avoiding doing white tears as a white autistic person is being able to recognize the ways you play into hierarchies in your masking and have an alternative thing planned for situations where that could hurt people of color.
    but idk for certain, this is a conversation im really interested in personally and i would love to hear what people think about this!

    Really disagree on the Billie eilish thing. Can we collectively stop fighting about culture and style and fashion things and move on? Nitpicking people’s style is not gonna help end racism, cultures mix, it’s human nature, isolating “black” things to black people and “white” things to white people is doing nothing but making people upset. Of course blatant appropriation and such is bad but imo this is just over the top and driving people away from the community.
    As someone who lives in Europe and was raised here, this has never been that much of an issue in my country. There isn’t an established community here compared to the black community of the US, but we have similar ethnic groups and aside from occasional appropriation there is no such issue with separating cultures for the sake of respect here.
    Personally I used to feel like due to being white I had no right to feel bad about myself, being born an autistic child, diagnosed only at 16 and having resulting trauma from being treated absolutely horribly throughout my entire childhood + feeling like an alien. I have worked on these internal biases but people who say things like these occasionally bring such feelings back and kinda make me feel bad abt my skin color (don’t argue with me on this. This is my perception and telling me it’s wrong is not gonna do anything).
    I don’t want anyone else to feel this way, ESPECIALLY new people in leftist spaces, so I disagree with this nitpicking of cultural stuff.

    2:45 - 8:34
    No hate to this person but I don't agree with her takes AT ALLLLLL, like I get where she's coming from but I feel like she's way off the mark with her criticism.
    First of all, the way a person dresses and the music that they make doesn't have to match. Their whole existence doesn't have to be tied to just one aesthetic and pushing people into boxes like this is really fucking weird. And you could argue that this creator doesn't mean to imply that, but then why bring it up twice? It's clearly bothering her.
    Second of all, yes baggy clothes are iconic to the black scene, especially to the rap scene, but they don't belong to just black people or rappers. We all have a right to fashion ourselves however the fuck we want to, and it doesn't have to be a statement or anything, aside from the fact that you like that style and wearing it makes you feel good. She wasn't appropriating the culture, she was appreciating the culture, and those are very different imo. As well, Billie is known to have had body insecurities in her teens, so she wore baggy clothing to hide her body as well, and this is well known.
    I know some people will bring up all her chains and rings, but if you listen to her interviews at the time you'll know that 99% of them were gifts from her friends and family, because they knew she likes the look of them. Again, appreciation, not appropriation.
    Third, the fact that she started to overcome her body dysmorphia and started embracing her femininity is a great and wonderful thing. I think that deciding to wear corsets in response to all the people that shamed her body after they found out why she wore baggy clothes is really fucking brave, and a big fuck you to all of those people.
    Why white femininity? Well...she is white. And more than that, she was asked to write a song for the Barbie soundtrack, so marketing wise it just made a lot of sense to lean into that vibe. Tbh it worked great, and it was on a topic that was very near and dear to her heart. If the switch bothered you, it says more about you than about her.
    Fourth, in the scale of things, her femininity era was really a blip in her career, propagated by the opportunity to overcome some personal insecurities and to market the Barbie movie. When she felt like that chapter was closed, she returned to her default, alternative style clothing. Because whether you like it or not, alternative has always been what Billie has been about, and coming out has very little to do with it, aside from affirming once again to her audience that this is who she is. She's having fun with styles and forms of expression and the people that make a big deal out of that are the fucking weirdest to me.
    Who has so much time to be upset about how other people dress, when they're not hurting anybody (aside from your imaginary offenses, sorry not sorry) and doesn't INTEND to hurt anybody either? Gurl if it bothers you turn the phone off, we out here. ( + Tbf I don't know Billie's exact phrasing here, but saying that the rap scene has issues is not wrong whatsoever. If you take offense to that, it's because you don't wanna admit it to yourself.)
    Also as an aside, criticising someone's music while you're trying to criticize someone's actions make you look biased, it's not a great look. You're addressing the artist, not the art, stick to that message. So, yeah, that's all I had to say. That clip really grinded my gears.

      2 things: 1, i don’t know nor have i ever heard about the clip with her talking about the rap scene (i’m not much of a billie eilish follower), but saying that it has problems is kinda weird considering other things because everything has issues, especially media, so it point that out specifically is kinda strange, but idk maybe it fits in what they were talking about in the interview?? and 2, the blaccent is a pretty clear indication of her style being from black people and you didn’t bring it up at all.

    • @LoreCatan
      @LoreCatan Месяц назад +9

      @@cottagecore_rose For the first thing, again I haven't seen it either so I'm just gonna stop us both from speculating on this point.
      Second, Billie does not have a blaccent. If she ever had a phase or a moment in an interview from what I understand her brother snapped her out of it. We all had phases when we were teens, I don't think it's a bad thing as long as she's not doing it now, which from what I've seen she hasn't been.
      Furthermore, you say "her style being from black people" like it's a bad thing. It's not. In fact, it'd kind of be impossible for her style to not be inspired by it even if just the tiniest bit. I just don't see the issue, she's not harming the culture in any way.
      And to put in a bit of background, a lot of people forget but Billie was one of the celebrity minors Drake is known to have been texting in the past. Who knows wtf he told her, but she's not doing it now.

    With my fam in a new state for a vacation right now, and been happy to actually get to experience community and to forage a lot. 🥺👍🏻 I got to play with a snail on a morning walk, found some pine needles already dried and then soaked by the rain, and loads of rocks and seashells. Been crafting like crazy and it feels so good.

      start with something small. a character that just has clothes, maybe die your hair with temporary dye. Small things.

    • @LyoHaliotis
      @LyoHaliotis Месяц назад +4

      Depends on the budget you want (if you're working with something small get loads of cardboard, you can do almost everything with cardboard, it's just not very durable) if you're working on your own wigs for the first time don't buy mesh and everything, get one that's the right color and pretty long,styling it takes time but everyone can do it. If you need more advice on specific stuff either reply to the comment with your question or I can give you a mean to reach out to me (not a professional but I like to think I'm decent)

    • @Denerierax
      @Denerierax Месяц назад +1

      @@LyoHaliotis I don't think any of that should be done, yet. Simple cosplay to start. A character that peoeple might not even realize you are cosplaying. But it gets you in the groove. Just certain clothes and some accessories maybe.

    • @LyoHaliotis
      @LyoHaliotis Месяц назад +1

      @@Denerierax I think a cosplay should make you feel proud of having done it so that you don't give up after the first, but it really depends on the person making it. Working EVA foam is effective at getting people hooked on cosplay and my goal is to create more crafting addicts to share tips with. My best memories about cosplay is con crunch with a few friends so I might just be a bit too extreme, but I don't want the og Commenter to feel like they have to go small because they're starting, moreso if they're good with their hands and have a few tools. Depends on them in the end

    13:32 This. Like if I get mad at someone and wanna stand up, I have to take into account if that could put my friend, a POC, in danger and not do it if it does. Their safety is more important.
    Emotional regulation skills help with this a lot, along with actively paying attention to what puts POC in danger and working to keep that away from them.
    Edit: Also, I am femme presenting and use she/he, so fall into the “white woman” category in terms of how people often view me. Still applies even tho aim NB because I’m female and white.

    i come asking for advice yet again:
    i’ve been meaning to do a little more reading aside from the books i can’t yet afford. how do you actually find your sources? when doing critical research, how do you find sources that are actually reliable instead of stumbling upon pages and pages of short and condensed articles from bigger magazines and blogs?
    (follow-up question: i’ve seen multiple tiktoks on these compilations including this one that mention fashion in black culture. do you guys have any further reading you’d recommend?)

    Yall am I the only one that is slightly confused with the “white gays acting like the opposite gender but black thing”? I feel like it is valid with some people but a lot of times that I’ve observed, at least with white gay guys, they act like white women more- like there are definitely ppl that do act like what yall r talking about but I feel like there are more that just act like the opposite gender of the same race Ykwim? Idk. Also I feel like with the Billie eilish thing, I understand what yall are saying but at the same time, how come her style has to mach her music-? Like there are SO MANY ARTISTS who dress COMPLETELY DIFFERENT from what you think they would based off of their music, so I feel like that specific part of the argument makes no sense. Idk, if someone could explain it better please do bc I’m having a hard time and I want to understand it better.
