    Yes, softer steel is tougher. “Thoughness” refers to a steel’s ability to resist chipping, cracking. They are heat treated the same way. It’s only later on, when they induction harden the edge of the blade that they bring the hardness of the edge higher on the regular version. 62 is still very hard. I think the rest of the pliers are tempered to a softer hardness so that they are much stronger/tougher. By only bringing the very edge to a high hardness, it makes sure that, because the hard edge is backed up by softer steel, it won’t chip or crack as easily as it would otherwise.
    Btw they actually make an 8 inch version WITH the notch in the blade as well. The also make an angled version (with and without the notch as well) that is flat like side cutters on one side to allow you to get near flush on whatever you’re cutting. Nice video btw. Cheers!

    I would want the bigger Kuh-Nip-X cutters with the recess to cover more capacity, and the smaller ones without it, so I don't have to worry about keeping smaller wires out of the recess when working in tighter areas.

    Knipex says, that this version is for cutting round objects, and the flat teeth version, is for cutting flat objects like a sheet of metal!
    The "U" shape on the teeth, not only helps the object you cut to not slip out, but also it allows to cut thicker stuff and to cut them easier! There some nails for example, that are harder and can't be cut with the front part of the jaws.

    2:05 you don't need to measure. It's written on the tool. The last marking is the length in millimeters.
    125 knipex cobra is, 125mm
    200 bolt cutter is 200mm
    180 bolt cutter is 180mm
    Stop with inches, start with metric my man.

    For their size, these mini bolt cutters really punch above their weight!

    Knipex tools usually come broken in but certain tools aren’t really meant to come broken in. My 8” mini bolt cutters are stiff like your 6” ones you have in this video. My high leverage end cutters like the ones you have are also stiff. I guess they will probably loosen up with time over the years.

    Interesting video, do you know when this R variant was launched? I never heard of it before. And I have four models. I have one very similar design, for soft metal and plastics.

      The 'R' variant has been available for years now, Knipex has just called them their Fencing Cutters. I believe it's meant to allow for gripping and twisting the fence wire without breaking the blade.

    Every time i see the Inch version of Rulers , i cannot but think this Inch thing (instead of Metric) was just the American way of not needing to look for your Glasses on later Age, with those huge Numbers XD

    My understanding is the r stands for recess and not robust

    • @ParklanCustom
      @ParklanCustom  Год назад

      There is no recess on the model that has the R at the end of the model number. So that wouldn’t be correct.

      @@ParklanCustom I have a 71 31 200 R & it Definitely has a recess! I believe the R is f0r robust (hardness) & can be gotten wit or without it. Mine are are Extremely stiff & reacquire 2 men & a boy to open & close, No Joke!
