Funny, I own myself two of those, but neither is the recessed nor the robust version, just a regular 71 01 160 and a regular 71 01 200. Both are amazing! I love how the cut material doesn't jump as far away as with regular side cutters.
These ok for basic combo locks? Yahoos at work keep forgetting their combo and call us in maintenance to cut their lock. Been using these giants ones we have. Would be nice for just one to keep in my pocket or bag lol
71 31 200R are my go to for rural fencing- cutting 2.5 high tensile wire - the jaws get a real work out as they are used for cutting and pulling/prising out staples.
I bought the recess 200mm cobolt few a weeks ago, but it doesn't have laser mark on it. Though it doesn't really matter, the recess holds the bolt I'm cutting firmly.
The Knipex Cobolt you got, was the older version. They begin making the laser etching on the blades, right around when you got them. In my experience, the older the tool is, the better they made them. So in reallity, the (probably) one year older version you got, compared to the etched ones, can't be worse, but better. Laser also raises the heat on the blades, and I don't know if that's not damaging the heat treatment of the steel or not, because if you get a hardened steel too hot, you do damage it. I guess Knipex know what they're doing, I just wanted to mention, that you didn't got an inferior tool, probably the opposite!
Nice! I'm going to order the 160 (most combact version) with the notched edges for edc, to be able to cut barb wire or wire fence,in case of emergency! Those wars are coming closer and closer to my country, every single day. We already are in war actually,so not a bad idea to be ready for anything. Stay safe brother! Cheers!. @@TheBonbenk
Are the 200 R pliers the plastic coated grip or the one that has a more textured grip? I have a pair of the Knipex diagonal cutters and I love them!! Going to start slowly accumulating all the Knipex pliers I can afford!
Hardness is such a hard thing to balance in product design, wear resistance, brittleness, toughness, its a fine balancing act, and messing up can make the product useless.
You would expect the R version to cut thicker material than the regular non R version but apparently that's not the case 🤔 I didn't know that prior to watching this video

They make cutting a breeze!
Thank you for posting this! I have been doing some homework on some good bolt cutters. This is great!
I have the 200mm size and love it. It is the recessed version.
Excellent information, thanks so much. Now I can make a more informed purchase.
Glad it was helpful!

¡Gracias!
¡De nada!
Very informative video, there is little info on this model of pliers. 👍👍
Thanks 👍
Just subscribed. You've got some good work on your channel.
Thanks for the sub! and definitely much appreciated!

It took ordering twice to get the Robust R model. Can't say it's night and day, but so far, they work great.

@@greekveteran2715 I see, thanks for the info. One year using it, it still going strong, it cut what it should be, no problem whatsoever.

How well can the 160 handle chain link fencing?
No problem!
So the 62hrc is going to cut harder stuff?

They got the textured plastic one, which alone makes them special to me
Would they cut through steel mesh and padlocks?
I don’t think I could fit a lock inside the jaw of mine. I’ve got the 200s
Maybe the extra large set they have. I know the 8" and 10" wouldn't be able to grip a padlock. I'm curious as to why you want to cut padlocks. 🤣
Very informative, I will check on mine! Thank you
what is better the recessed version 71 31 200 or the regular 71 01 200 non robust version
Don't get the recessed version.
The R variant says 48 HRC on the handle, is that just for the handle?
I actually liked this up awhile ago as I was curious what the “r” meant. To me it’s kind of a paradox though 🤔
Excellent point!

Es gibt noch eine größere Version XL mit 250 mm. (Zwei Hand)
Und eine S mit Aussparungen in den Klingen.
I wonder if he set up some sort of containment for all the clippings that shot off everywhere lol
Knipex is great and actually practical unlike wera and those brands that are overpriced gimmicks
At least get some fencing to to demo. Time waister
