  • @RyanVillian

    @fliesenfuzzi that is because you have a non-reference PCB. Meaning that your PCB was re-designed and built by Sapphire. There is a reason they chose to use 2 8-pins, forgot why though.

    Came here when upgrading my home theatre PC trying to work out if there's actually any point replacing my Sapphire 7970 GHz edition.
    Conclusion: Nope!
    Helluva card still pushing out decent FPS at 1080P in AAA titles.

    this is the chip that should have been in the new consoles

    • @KingOguzhan12
      @KingOguzhan12 10 лет назад

      But the consoles would be too expensive with this 7970 chip ...

    • @iOnRX9
      @iOnRX9 10 лет назад

      KingOguzhan12 they would cost about what the X1 costs with just that as an APU
      8 core CPU + 32 CU GCN core APU
      as a chip would have cost about $100 - $150 more than the current APU

    • @iOnRX9
      @iOnRX9 10 лет назад

      KingOguzhan12 i should be clear ... i am speaking on the PS4 APU ... it cost $99 .... i would pay $500-$600 for a console that was 3 times the power of the X1, able to run games in ultra graphic, 60fps .... it would have ensured the PS4 complete and total domination of this generation (i think this is happening anyway). you need to remember that price of the chip is reduced with orders of bulk. and in Sony's case it's orders of 100 million+.
      this is why AMD is making such a huge profit margin from the consoles. (the consoles APU are their biggest market)
      we are going to have 2 opportunities .. nay, excuse me, 3 opportunities for a revolution ...
      1) the chinese company that will be getting into the console market space
      2) NINTENDO .... of they decide to release a NES for the new age
      3) an amalgam of development houses seeing this age as the phenomenon it is and release together a custom made steam machine on better footing than the PS4 (which is on very good footing right now)
      4) Amazon ..... instead of that ridiculous feeler console they did ... had a custom made APU in the vein of what was mentioned earlier, with some real competition (yes i know i said 3 previously but i just remembered amazon)
      .... the fact is that there is a huge space open for AMD APUs right now, and i am surprised that more people are not taking advantage of such a huge and open chasm of a gap for a third competitor in the console space.

    So there is plenty of cables you can use, also its modular so ones you don't need can be removed so they aren't in the way.

    An active adapter can convert a signal from one connector to another. That's basically what eyefinity is all about. The only way to get eyefinity running is to get a minidisplay port monitor or get an active adapter.

    I like this one, I was gonna get the Asus DirectCUII design, but I think I'll get this one. Do you know if one of these cards is enough to drive 3x1080p on demanding games like Crysis 1 and ArmA 2 (antialiasing off) with smooth framerates on highest settings? Or would I need at least 2 of these?

  • @Melinon
    @Melinon 12 лет назад

    The extra GB of VRAM doesn't make a difference even at 5760x1080 4xAA BF3, nor in any other game at the moment. 7970 catches up at those settings though, but it's not because it has more VRAM.

    what most people don't know is that 7970 was underclocked and because nvidia came out later they released there card with a higher clock both cards can reach under the same conditions similar clock ratings the 7970 even higher thus from a overclockers perspective 7970 is the thing too go plus 3 gb ram never hurts

    7970 beats or matches the 680 in every benchmark ive seen 0.o and it's same price as a 670. how did you come to the conclusion that a 680 is better than a 7970?

  • @sambassmanstoner
    @sambassmanstoner 12 лет назад

    The FPS will be slightly lower stock on a 7970 vs. the 670. Though if the 7970 OC's better than the 670. And the 7970 is more power efficient. I would go with the GHz edition as well, because it's only about 50$ more for a 10-15 FPS boost. So if you are comfortable with OCing go with 7970, if not 670.

  • @Ty4ons
    @Ty4ons 12 лет назад

    The 7970 overclocks like a beast and runs games at high resolutions and lot's of AA very well. The 670 has better stock performace in many games and uses less power, but will suffer when you apply a lot of AA and doesn't overclock very well.

    Well ventilated case.....hm....I think my Akasa ZEN V2 might not be good enough (and barely big enough, i just measured from the back of the case to the drive rack, comes in at about 12.5/13 inches) for this card, unless i leave the side off all the time.
    How easy are they to de-dust?
    Oh, and is a 550 Watt PSU strong enough for this thing?

    i just got a new Gigabyte 7970 which is pcie 3.0/16x, prior to this card i had a radeon 5870 pcie 2.0/16x, that card shows as (PCI-E 2.0x16@x16 2.0) with GPUZ, now when i installed my gigabyte 7970 card it only reads as (PCI-E3.0x16@x8 1.1) but 3.0 when running 3D application. My question is why is the MB(Asrock z77 extreme4) only detecting the 7970 as an 8x card and not full 16x lane? how can that be changed to 16x like my old card detected? will it be a performance hit from x16 to x8?

    In highly synthetic circumstances yes, nothing that you will ever see in a real gaming or video editing scenario. There is a negligible difference, I mean it's not even worth noting it's that small of a difference. It also depends on what type of hardware, what type of PCI controller you have, the bandwidth (16X, 8X ect. ect.), and what you are doing with it.

    PhysX is hardware limited by Nvidia, and thus is not used by hardly any major game titles. For every game that uses PhysX, there are hundreds that do not. They either use Havoc or their own proprietary engine since they are not hardware limited and can do the same effects as PhysX.

    every mainboard with pcie 16x 2.0 supports graphics cards, performance of 2.0 is far enough to get the same results as in 3.0. 3.0 is needed earliest for the next or the generation after the next for graphics cards. only useful if you get a mainboard with 2 times 3.0 where one is 16 lanes and one 8 ->8 lanes on 3.0 is 16 lanes on 2.0 so you can build a sli / Crossfire system and save some money, but atm i think obviously a mobo with 2 times 16 lanes pcie 16x 2.0 is cheaper.

    DVI supports up to 2560x1600 while VGA can only go up to 2560x1440 I'm not sure about HDMI but I think it only supports 60hz at 1920x1200
