We here in southern Idaho, just received out annual Tax assessment. My property went up $62.000.00 this time around! They literally are trying to Tax us off of our own property. NUTZ!
As bad as CA governance is at least we got prop 13, which limits how much property taxes can go up per year, without it majority of homeowners would be paying $12,000 plus a year in property taxes. Many of us couldn’t afford to sell our house and buy our neighbors house.
Less people is just how we like it. It's funny, only big city people see the benefits of more people coming into the area. They cite more money coming into the state as being the "great reason" to invite all comers here. Truth is, it's taken more money out of the pockets of the people who have been here for decades. You transplants have raised our rent, raised our cost of living, raised crime and homelessness, raised the numbers on people with mental health issues, and reduced the amounts of already limited medical/community resources we have here in the state. Transplants are a drain on this state. There's a 100% justifiable reason for us not wanting people to move here. You reduce the quality of life for people who are already here and have been since before it became cool to "move to Idaho." If that hurts people's feelings......we don't care.
@@EricaToffel That has been my personal observation over my 76 years on this ball. Especially since our entire education system went from teaching to indoctrinating. If not the entire town then at least a significant portion thereof.
What is currently happening in the Boise valley is one of the saddest things I have ever seen. Greed like no other greed has gripped the area and wealthy developers are creating a hodgepodge of HOA neighborhoods, which to me reek of socialism. The prices for all homes have become unaffordable to the average Idahoan, and if you are planning on renting then let me fill you in on what has happened. Huge corporate property management companies have taken over the entire scene and are setting the bar for the price of rentals. Of coarse they are out of reach for the average person unless you want to live in a rat hole. Traffic you ask? lol, Don't even go there. All in all, I think unless you are super rich and just have to live here, I would go someplace else.
It's funny because I can't stand HOA's and have always seen them as products of ultra greedy, economically conservative initiatives able to circumvent the protections provided by the law and the state. To see them as socialist, when they are a very capitalist-corporatist creation is just bonkers. Btw, I can't stand communism, and I find it crazy how sometimes the restrictions created by that very messed up system can meet up and resemble by its ultra capitalist counterparts when left unchecked. Tell the folks in Boise to ban HOAs.
Please 'splain to Lucy how a RED state of freedom fry "Mericans flag waving unlimited guns and ammo (during Covid gun shops were considered essential!!!) could ALLOW this abuse of flag waving God fearing Americans. Make the connection pour moi.
Boise winter - extreme, ha. Growing up in the greater Boise area the winters, except for 2017, snowmagedon, have been minor. Move north to central idaho and deal with 5-6 months of winter, then you can say it is extreme in Idaho, but down there in the Treasure Valley, meh. One winter issue in the Treasure Valley though is when the inversions hit and you don't see the sun for weeks on end. That is when a drive up to Bogus Basin to ski and get above the inversion is a must!
This is interesting. I’m learning more and more about Idaho. Investing would be a great move for us but not so sure about moving there. Hawaii is hard to leave now 😅
Very helpful with a forthright impression too. Only 2,000,000 people! Truly surprising! I am next door in Oregon. Maybe I will visit Idaho before I cross the finish-line.
Love this video. Idaho born and raised i lived and grew up in the Treasure Valley. Ive moved to other states and have traveled to many places and theres no place quite like Idaho
To that note, the reason most people are moving back to their states is because of how greedy they got and went way over their means so when the company they're working for realize they now work in a right to work state and can lower their wages to the cost of living in Idaho and that $40/hr pillow cushion turns into a $18.50/hr cold metal bench, they realize they've been living hundreds of not thousands of dollars over what they should have intellectually budgeted. Sadly only 6 or 7 years ago $16/hr in the valley could support you a family and a home. You need twice that now for the same basic privilege
If you are a new-comer, be sure try to avoid coming off as a know-it-all. One example is hunting. Listen to what people say on the topic and try to learn. If you are not a fan of hunting, after listening you likely won't become a hunter, but you'll have a more nuanced view of it and understand and appreciate why people hunt. Another thing to keep in mind is that what passes for conservative in rural areas does not necessarily overlap with what conservative is in suburban areas. Finally, if you do move to a rural area, or even a smaller city, don't be surprised that you lose your anonymity. Unlike suburbia around a big city, you will see the same people over and over again.
Nice video! We may need to talk to you when we get ready to move. We have family there and go at least 3 times a year. We have about 2.5 years left here in the DC area. Just hope we can find a home there that isn’t as expensive as the homes here in the DMV area
Despite the size of the state, Idaho is sparsely populated. Idaho is indeed a big state, but it has a lack of big cities like other more populated states. Boise is the largest city in the state and it lacks the feel of a big city. the northern part of Idaho a.k.a. the panhandle is in the Pacific Time Zone while the rest of the state including Boise is in the Mountain Time Zone.
If home schooling is popular there, does that mean people can have Day Cares as business's in their backyards? Unfortunately, here in Vegas (even in an HOA where you arent supposed run a business out of your house), this happens. Ive read about Idaho and researched it, but this would probably be one of my biggest questions. Oh! also wondering about the property tax question that someone else in the replies asked. Is it common for them to frequencly raise property taxes? For a senior that could be a problem.Great video btw!
I am sure you find daycares in some neighborhoods but we don’t see a lot of it. Some families share in homeschooling responsibilities so children may move around to different homes depending on day or subject. But they also teach lessons out in the community, exploring farms, sites and more. If you are homeschooled, you are able to participate in zoned school’s extracurricular activities.
Property taxes can fluctuate, largest increase I’ve seen came after COVID. The taxing district develops a budget to fund vital services for that community. When the cost of those services go up, just as everything has recently, then unfortunately taxes can go up as well. But, I have seen property taxes, go down too so it’s not always up up up.
In Boise area, we don’t struggle with obtaining home insurance like other parts of the country. Although some homes will require flood insurance if in the 100year flood zone.
Idaho Senators Vote completely down the TRUMP line. I met one of them (Crapo) at a SLC National Debate qualifier in 1971. He seems to have forgotten what debate is: the search for the truth!!
Northern & Southern Idaho are like two different states.Northern Idaho is more conservative and it has the best of the natural beauty. We have beautiful clear lakes and nicer people than in southern Idaho. I just bought a newly constructed home in a subdivision and it is 3,000 sq ft and it was half a million dollars at 7% interest! Idaho will have ten churches in a itty bitty town, but you better have insurance in a different state, Idaho has no medical . Been known for white supremacist since before I was born. Charter schools mean most don't get schooling. Do not move Idaho it's a weird state😢

It’s not a big state. If you take away all the government and agricultural land which obviously is not for purchase it’s a small state.
Idaho is fine. Idaho isn’t changing its people who are changing. It’s the rat race, not Idaho.
Growth is tough anywhere and change is inevitable. I think Idaho is doing its best to manage its unprecedented growth.
People from Seattle and California are ruining our small towns.
Which small towns are experiencing this?
Sadly, with BSU being there, Boise has a fairly large liberal population when compared to the mainly conservative general population.
As a whole college towns around the country trend more progressive than neighboring areas??

HOA community plans are now happening in every state. Even Pahrump nevada (which is fairly rural), has HOA masterplan communities now.
Like the majority of Americans you are clearly clueless about “socialism”. Laughable.

Unrealistic. Cost of living is nuts for the average person. You can't get a job if you're over 55
In Idaho? Cost of living is quite affordable compared to many other major cities. But it’s certainly not the cheapest state either.
What they DONT have is ACCEPTANCE of new people moving there.
Migration into the state sure is a hot topic
All the major cities, towns are overpriced, overcrowded, overhyped, overwhelmed.
I would say that could be every major city, regardless of state.

Why doesn't Idaho prohibit growth and immigration?
Because they like money coming in. Raises for the politicians, kickbacks from developers, etc.
Because they are mostly Republican.
Because in america we have freedom of travel.
