Please keep fighting for VR, Ian. As a fairly recent convert, I now know how hard it is to convince people that VR isn't just another gimmick like Eye Toy or Kinect, but truly as transformative experience. Playing VR games has been the absolute highlight of this year for me, and I agree with most of the games on your list. Beat Saber is my personal number one, because it is so immediate, physical and precise, but the absolute technical brilliance and irresistible charm of Astro Bot is a close second. I also have to recommend Airtone highly, if you want a more classic Japanese rhythm game experience, but it's not out on PS VR yet. And Sprint Vector, which makes you feel like you have superhuman powers.
I love vr and people that say it sucks haven really tried it there just dumb of course vr will get better down the road but what it is now I'm loving it and enjoy playing rec room fornite if u want Call it that and res7 firewall and soon I will get borderlands and beat sabre hoping gor a sale.can't wait what games we get in 2019.
Well, i don't think that VR will die that fast, but OR, Vive and PSVR need to improve to make it more appealing for the masses. Still i'm pretty optimistic, and to ensure that the best way is to support it. So yeah... My Favorite so far is on OR Robo Recall^^
The enthusiasm that you have shown for VR is the reason I got the PSVR last year, I have never regretted this decision. Thank you Ian and the rest of the Eurogamer team for the great content.
Add me to the list of people who've got into PSVR because of your enthusiasm. I got it on Friday and even from my little bit of playing around so far, I'm loving it. Gonna take it with me up home for Christmas so I can make my mum try it out, too!
You aren't the only one. I finally got mine about 2 weeks ago now, and while I have only put maybe 10 or so hours into it, I *ABSOLUTELY* love it. It came with Beat Saber and Borderlands 2, and I've since purchased Wipeout Omega, Moss, Astro Bot Rescue Mission, and RE7... I'm thinking of what to get next and idk, it's a tie between Tetris Effect and Thumper, I've played the demo for Thumper, and I quite enjoy it, whereas I do also enjoy Tetris, but I mean it is just Tetris lol. I'm gonna get em both though, probably next week I suppose.
Have held off temptation for two years and now have a PSvR winging its way to me for Xmas. Cannot wait to experience it and will definitely try out some of these games in '19 Thanks Ian & happy xmas
Are you enjoying it?? Is it worth it? I'm sorry to ask but I'm about to take the plunge and get the VR package so I just was wondering what your opinion is so far😀
I may not have a PSVR (or any VR) but I still enjoy these videos to see what devs are doing with the technology. And, of course, for the Higtonesque style of the reviews.
Batman VR is pretty damn great. Short, sure, but it was quite possibly one of the coolest experiences of my life. For a short time.... I... was.... Batman.
A criminally-unrecognized PSVR experience is SCULPTR VR. If you have a creative bone in your body, it's a cheaply priced download that delivers a phenomenal intro to the single most engaging VR thing that exists: Virtual sculpting. The controls are intuitive (although the full functionality of them only reveals itself through a bit of practice) and the powers will continue to delight any artistic soul out there with every visit. Simply the coolest thing you can currently do in PSVR for any artist. Although I'm sure it pales in comparison to something like Oculus Medium, if you do have PSVR and don't have a VR set-up on your powerful computer -- GET SCULPTR VR. Incidentally, I've got no ties to the thing beyond being an artist who discovered it about a month ago.
I’m not a huge gamer but Astro Bot is probably the best game I’ve ever played. It really did reduce me to a happy child like state. Every level I felt wowed by its magic and imagination.
LOL. You really want to compare the laggy, buggy PSVR experience with true VR made possible by PC VR headsets? I´m not a #pcmasterrace guy, but you just can´t compare those two. Oculus + Vive are another league. I´ve played with a friends PSVR for several hours now and you can clearly see and feel differences. PC VR has full 360 degree tracking, Rift controllers are soooo much better than PSVR sticks. The graphics are a lot better and with supersampling on it will be even more. PSVR got me motion sick because of only 60 FPS and the wobbly tracking. I´ve never had motion sickness with my Rift. The tracking of PSVR is not that great and looses connection from time to time. Rift and VIVE tracking are always on point even in the milimeter area, which allows you to draw perfectly etc. Next thing is that there are many more games and more different genres on PC than on PSVR. PSVR doesn´t have good VR drawing programs like Tilt Brush, no VR desktop mode with multiplayer like Bigscreen, no social VR games like VRChat, no polished wave shooters like Robo Recall. And most big games on the PSVR are available for PC aswell.
@@DonicMusik Make no mistakes, Samsung NAILED it, BUUTT, for price and quality of games THIS YEAR, yes. Hell, we JUST GOT Borderlands 2 VR. Probably one of the BEST last gen game ever made, which is gonna give us 250+ hours of VR bliss right now, so yeah, I'd say that beats the top shelf, three hour VR experiences that require a $900 PC and a $800 headset. Plus, we get really solid ports of all the best games for those systems, plus Astro Bot and Moss exclusives, which really put this console ahead this year.
@@IknowIamkindagreat Moss is available for PC too. Borderlands 2 VR is PSVR exclusive for 5 months. After that it will be released for PC, I´m sure. 800$ headset? The Rift costs 350$ and comes with 6 games. So not that much more than PSVR, but the difference in VR experience is huge in my opinion. Of course for those who don´t want a PC and only got a console PSVR is a good thing. But I wouldn´t say PSVR has pissed on PC since many good games for PC were released too.
@@DonicMusik I'll be honest, I feel like most VR experiences OUTSIDE of the ported PS4 games (aka Skyrim, Fallout 4) are all just physics based games and shitty wave shooters. While PSVR has those too, we have far more 5-100 hour games, and the duel shock destroys hand controllers and VR controllers, as waving your arms like an idiot is fun for about ten minutes and then that buzz wears off. But all good, people can have diff. opinions, cuz at the end of the day, we all share one thing. We know VR is the shit and we all got in at the ground floor, so good on you!
I hope Japan Studio is working on ANY PSVR game (I wouldn't mind a remastered version of Puppeteer with VR support), and also that Impulse Gear announces what they have been up to.
MegaRayland That’s a fantastic idea! Puppeteer had a 3D version on PS3. As did Shadow of the Colossus, imagine that in VR... As there is a remastered version of Catherine coming to PS4 that would be worthy.
Ian you're the man. Old like me but super enthusiastic about games. I don't think there's anyone else on the whole channel quite as into videogames as Ian.
Astro Bot VR really is pure joy and one of the most crisp, clear looking games. I played the heck out of Wipeout VR too. That took some adjusting but the more focused and into it you are, the less sick you get I found. You gotta ease into it slowly. Wanna get Moss eventually. The Tetris Effect demo disappointed me with low resolution. And I guess I'm just not that into tetris. I thought thumper was better. Anyway that's just me.
Yeah my PSVR was bundled with Astro Bot and Moss. I loved Wipeout though already before I got VR, but in VR now, it's brilliant! Yes I also enjoy Thumper.
Within the past few weeks I've bought Red Dead Redemption 2, God of War, Beat Saber and Astrobot. I've probably played Astrobot more than all the others. It's a great game. It looks like a kids game but I'm 33 and I enjoyed it so much. I don't think the footage of it on RUclips does it justice.
Thanks for your video list! I just bought the PS4VR on sale with the Astrobot and Moss games bundled with it. I already had Wipeout, Thumper and Eve: Valkyrie VR games in anticipation. I'm so looking forward to relaxing and playing all these games, getting used to VR during my upcoming holiday from work.
Thank you so much Ian! Great picks. You’re one of the few credible journalists from main stream media, who regularly covers VR! Especially after that ridiculous IGN review for BL2 we need more people like you! Keep up the great work.
Great video gave me an idea on what i am going to experience when i get my psvr this christmas. Out of the 10 games you showed 3 of them catched my intrest number 10, 2, and number 1 my favorite one being Moss
Thanks for the awesome list! Now I know what I wanna do with my Christmas money. Also, if you could do a video on upcoming psvr titles, i’d absolutely love that. Oh, and Merry Christmas to you too buddy. Happy new year aswell.
Thanks for this year’s content, Ian. It feels nice to have enthusiasts like you championing VR on RUclips! If you have a free hole in your schedule, I’d love some coverage on a game called In Death. It has a very Dark Souls vibe so I’m curious to see what you would think!
Great video! It's awesome to see PSVR coverage from a major outlet! Here are a few more additions of games that blew me away: TO THE TOP. An incredible first person perspective platformer that plays great, looks awesome and it's frantic as hell. Knockout League. Punch-Out in VR. It's as simple as that, and it's super fun... And exhausting! Creed. It reminds me to Fight Night in VR. It's another very active game, but the feeling of being on a Rocky movie is top notch. Red Matter. One of the best looking PSVR games, and a really fun retro sci-fi adventure with a cool story and puzzles. Transpose. A puzzle game that can totally blow your mind. Inventive, crazy and uses VR on an awesome way. A must-have for puzzle fans akin to Portal or Talos Principle. In Death. Alongside The Persistence, the best rogue-like PSVR game. It's super hard and it'll kick your ass A LOT, but the archery mechanics and physics are the best I've played. Awesome and addictive as hell. Rush VR. Wingsuit races with an incredible sense of speed and a lot of fun overall
This is a great list but it’s missing my 2nd favorite VR game of the year. Sprint Vector. It is an absolutely exhausting game but I love it and think it has the best locomotion of any VR game.
Thanks for this great list. Maybe mentioning which games explicitly need the Move units would have helped a little, but it was a great video. I bought my PSVR yesterday with Astrobots. Bloody unreal game. Getting used to the headset takes a bit more time than I expected. 90 minutes and I was exhausted mentally. Coming from playing Destiny2 or Breath of the Wild for hours on end, this was a surprise, but not a bad one. Cheers from Aussie!
My favourite part of the VR Worlds demo was the Astrobot mini games. Japan Studios work is wonderfully realised VR gaming. I was hoping for a fully implemented game of that on PSVR. I am so pleased, as I have just treated myself to an early Christmas present of Astrobot Rescue Mission. Moss was also an essential purchase for me. And I will blowing any PSN Vouchers I receive on Tetris Effect !
Oh yes. Just checked, you’re right. Playroom is on the PSVR outer box as the ‘included software’ just not on the disc contents list itself... The Playroom had just auto loaded when I inserted that disc, so wrongly assumed it was part of what was on there. How confusing!
Excellent list. Other than with The Exorcist I can agree with every game on that list. Apex Construct and Sprint Vector were a couple of other excellent games this year. Shooty Fruity was also good for a wave shooter, as were Knockout League, To The Top, Creed, Transpose, and Rush VR worthy additions to the library. Just in Time Inc. was also a fun game in VR.
Im thinking on getting into VR I been a PS owner for a loooong time and this feels like a natural progression , I may start with your number one, thank you for the video, you get a like and a subscribe.
Firewall, Beat Saber, and Tetris effect have taken over my free time.. I have Red Dead 2 when it came out and only made it half way through the game (plus played VR at times during) before I quit and played more Beat Saber.. It's got new free songs, firewall came out with a new map.... Life is good.
Thanks Ian for all the fantastic VR coverage. Just curious if you've played To The Top? It's like Super Mario 64 in first person seriously it's that good. I can definitely see the gameplay mechanic being used in other VR games to move around the environment particularly when it comes to verticality, there's really nothing else like it on PSVR! It also has a few levels where your basically Iron Man :D
@@eurogamer a few tips if you do: 1. Best played with two move controllers to reach some of the more difficult hand holds. 2. You can build momentum by jumping (by letting go with both hands at the same time) consecutively up to five times to reach maximum speed / distance, then you really fly through the levels. 3. You don't need to throw your hands to jump just let go of both hands at the same time and look where you want to go (although it feels great to throw them and can help those without strong VR legs stave off nausea). 4. You can change direction mid air just by looking in a different direction. This applies somewhat to the vertical as well as the horizontal. 5. You need to collect medals to unlock all the levels. Most are from best times in levels but exploration is also rewarded. The possibilites from both 3D platforming and flying in 3D demonstrated in this game get me really excited for future VR games! Hope you have fun :)
Just bought the PSVR on sale and I'm really impressed, glad Astro Bot came included havent tried it as exploring the playroom and playstation worlds (also includef) oh and had to try RE7 in VR!! Even more excited to get into AstroBot now and a couple of more games I want to add to my collection after watching this video. Thank you!
I only tried Driveclub at EGX 3 years ago and it ruined all the excitement I had for VR. Horrific visuals and experience when I played it then. I was going to pre-order PSVR and only just got it a few days ago. Absolutely loving PSVR now I tried some decent experiences
Solid list. Personally I would add Borderlands 2 VR to it. I'm completely hooked, even though I've played most of it already on flatscreen. Last night while playing I was chased by a Badass Psycho down some stairs, and seeing the towering figure thundering towards me in life size was so intense that I nearly fell over backwards. And the boss battles are just off the hook.
@@eurogamer can I just say as well after the IGN controversy, I appreciate Eurogamer having a dedicated VR section, with someone who is familiar with VR looking at VR games. Not liking a game on it's own merits is one thing, but making multiple complaints about things that can easily be addressed in the options menu is pretty substandard and a complete rookie error. So props to Eurogamer for taking the new medium seriously.
@tony ny Like I say, I've already played most of the flat version, including in co-op. Not once did it make me nearly fall over when a huge enemy charged me. It wasn't even a boss. Also in the VR version I can peek out and shoot behind cover, have true dual wielding and independent head/weapon movement. Playing flat feels like looking through a window while being in an upper body cast by comparison. The lack of co-op is my only real negative about this game, but it's a small price to pay for the level of immersion added, and in any case I've already experienced co-op in the flat version. And I'm sure Gearbox will get the DLC happening if it does well.
Love my PSVR. I still game seriously on the PS4, but when I want to just have a bit of fun, or only have a half an hour to play....I reach for the VR. Its also become a family affair. My wife and the kids will take turns trying to top one another at Beat Saber or Eagle Flight. Looking forward to playing Tetris and Astrobot. Everyone wants a turn at Moss also. Its so serene, fun, often cute, just a beautiful adventure to be inside of. Haven’t tried a BIG game in VR yet. I think I’ll grab Borderlands 2 as soon as there is a sale. Never played it, but always wanted to.
Fantastic vid and great top 10 list! There are a few titles in there that I have yet to play and Déraciné (pronounced "day rah see nay") is rather intriguing.
Astrobot was my first game which might have been a mistake because it sets the bar so high. After that I beat Moss and Tetris Effect which were both great. But Astrobot is on another level I think I am going to play through it again
For an awesome immersion experience, you simply must play 'Space Pirate Trainer' It takes you back to the old coin style arcades... except you are IN THE GAME... fighting wave after wave with SPOT ON accuracy. I have spent more time with that than Firewall and enjoy the gunplay way more. And where is Creed: Rise To Glory? The Best boxing VR game to date and arguably one of the Top 3 Boxing Games Of All Time. You were right... your Top 10 is definitely your own. I doubt Tetris would make the Top 10 PSVR titles for anyone else out there... or the Exorcist: Legion chapters... agree with the Persistence as that is amazing.
Great video! I love the PSVR and always happy to see positive coverage. Derecine' wouldn't deserve a spot on my list, but I'm glad someone enjoyed it. Happy Holidays!
Danish Gaming VR hey dude I have a Question. On Ps4 Pro Vr says I am out of Game play when I am not does that happen to you at all? Is it something to be concerned about?
hi, i have a question. i thinking of picking up firewall but i don’t have money rn for the controller as well. can i play firewall with the dualshock 4 or the move controllers?
McRazzler Can i say all of them? Beat Saber is the most fun I would say. Moss the best story, astrobot the most accessible and Tetris is still Tetris but visually looks stunning
Danish Gaming VR Lol. I’ll be honest I played Tetris when it was free and didn’t get into it. Beat Saber does look really good fun, but I wish you could import your own music. Difficult to do maybe but that would be beast. Astro and Moss, I will get round to them one day.

Coming from playing Destiny2 or Breath of the Wild for hours on end, this was a surprise, but not a bad one. Cheers from Aussie!
I'm getting Moss and Astrobot for Xmas. Glad they were numbers 1+2 on your list.
Also, I picked up Team Bravo. It's terrible playing with the dualshock. May need to pick up the Aim controller after Xmas.
Sparky Kelly What did you think? Both awesome games and definitely in my Top 20 games list vid! 😜
@@GetToDaChoppaVR love both. Astrobot is the best game on vr so far. But ive heard good things about Beat saber.
Gt sport is like ultimate vr game, it looks and feels so Good
It is great, but also it is not a 2018 game. ;)
Can’t wait for PS5 and a full GT7 in VR!
Have to try this out yet, us the sense of speed good?
I'm surprised, but pleased, that there are so many good games now on the platform. Wish I had more time to play mine as it is a good escape.
Space Pirate Trainer is also great fun for some quick vr sessions :D
My favourite part of the VR Worlds demo was the Astrobot mini games. Japan Studios work is wonderfully realised VR gaming.
I was hoping for a fully implemented game of that on PSVR. I am so pleased, as I have just treated myself to an early Christmas present of Astrobot Rescue Mission. Moss was also an essential purchase for me. And I will blowing any PSN Vouchers I receive on Tetris Effect !
You mean of the Playroom VR game. VR Worlds is the collection of mini-games that includes London Heist and The Descent.
Oh yes. Just checked, you’re right. Playroom is on the PSVR outer box as the ‘included software’ just not on the disc contents list itself... The Playroom had just auto loaded when I inserted that disc, so wrongly assumed it was part of what was on there. How confusing!
I agree with you on the top three and firewall is my favorite
Ian Rynerson Firewall is definitely high in my top 20 list! 😜
Astro Bot is AMAZING
WACKITY WACK Hell Yeah it is! Definitely high in my top 20 list! 😜
GOOD SHOW!!!😃 and a very merry christmas to you and da youtubes!!!
Pixel Tickler PSVR FOR LIFE! I have not played enough of Tetris to put it in my list but Firewall and Beat Saber are in my vid for sure! So amazing!
Great video Ian! Will definitely pick up the Exorcist and Persistence :) Love a good horror game!
Brilliant video again Ian..
I have not! Will have to give it a go!
To the Top is amazing.
@@eurogamer a few tips if you do:
@@DOGroove agreed! Shame it's not had more mainstream coverage but I look forward to seeing what Electric Hat Games do next!
Chris Hackwood To The Top is awesome and Definitely in my Top 20 games list vid! 😜
Thank you!
I got the psvr Astrobot and Moss bundle. And I've been looking for games I should get. your video sure helped me alot. Thanks!
SkylerPlays I have a bunch of games I would recommend on my games lists videos
First time viewer. Happily Subscribed, thanks for making these videos. Merry Christmas and Happy New to you as well.
Thank You. The only game I hadn't heard of was Pixel Ripped and it looks great!
So buy VR so I can play a video game inside a video game.
We’ve come full circle.
Could someone please explain what bugs are in Firewall: Zero Hour because I haven't come across a single bug from tens of hours playing?
Great video, love it.
Driveclub is amazing too
It is, but it is not a 2018 game. ;)
@@MegaRayland oh Yeah, right,!
I love it, have an F1GT cockpit with a pro and 2nd gen psvr, absolutely no trouble with motion sickness thank God. Can play it for hours Haha.
I only tried Driveclub at EGX 3 years ago and it ruined all the excitement I had for VR. Horrific visuals and experience when I played it then. I was going to pre-order PSVR and only just got it a few days ago. Absolutely loving PSVR now I tried some decent experiences
@@Mmmmgrolsch i dont have psvr i played at my friends house, and i liked driveclub, it was a bit blury but the sense of speed is amazing.
I loved the end of Astro bot when you vs the final boss
Blade Blake Yes! The boss fights are awesome! The whole game is one of the best and definitely in my top 20 list! 😜
Yea my fav is the shark cause it reminds me off jaws and also the final boss was intense
Unfortunately BL2 wasn’t out when I made this list and I’ve not had the chance to play it yet. Very much looking forward to it though!
Highly highly agree with the number 1 and 2.
Beat saber is the best one I’ve played so far
XD Do Everything Definitely high in my top 20 list! 😜
My fave psvr game has to be beat saber, it just feels so good
Trizzie Brah Yes dude! Definitely in my top 20 list! 😜
I totally heard Gideon Emery in that Firewall clip.
1,2 & 3 100% agree with you 👊😄
I juist want games that are stationary! When I walk in vr I get a weird sensation in my head ..what are the best ?
Wow I wanna play astrobot, looks so cool
Fantastic vid and great top 10 list! There are a few titles in there that I have yet to play and Déraciné (pronounced "day rah see nay") is rather intriguing.
Kelly Emond it’s more like deh rah see neh
@@kraenk12 not necessarily. Je suis francophone et j'ai donné une prononciation phonétique facile à prononcer pour un anglophone.
@@LuckyLizard1979 Nay n'est pas la prononciation correcte. Neither for a Frenchman nor an English speaker.
@@kraenk12 on va vraiment s'obstiner sur une niaiserie du genre? Let's just agree that we disagree.
Got psvr for Christmas so happpppy
I don’t know if I’m terrible but he is really good at beat saber
1.Rec Room
2.Arizona Sunshine
3.Superhot VR
4.SPARC
5.Job Simulator
Astrobot was my first game which might have been a mistake because it sets the bar so high. After that I beat Moss and Tetris Effect which were both great. But Astrobot is on another level I think I am going to play through it again
Pat Dorsman Yeah it is right up there in my top 20 list too!
Astrobot and job simulator is my favorites
Nice top 10 list. Very different then mine. I'll have to check out pixleriff
BobaGabe1 Same here! I would love to hear what your list is and how it compares to mine on my channel
MOSS is my Fave game so Far. I wonder how The Inpatient is on VR can you do a game update on that one if you have time please.? Merry Christmas.
RustAttack Gammer Moss is definitely high in my top 20 list! 😜
Danish Gaming VR thanks man.
Only with dualshoch4 or aim they calibrated same way
In death can t stop playing
Great video
What should I buy today, Astrobot, Beat Saber, Moss or Tetris?
McRazzler Can i say all of them? Beat Saber is the most fun I would say. Moss the best story, astrobot the most accessible and Tetris is still Tetris but visually looks stunning
Danish Gaming VR Lol. I’ll be honest I played Tetris when it was free and didn’t get into it. Beat Saber does look really good fun, but I wish you could import your own music. Difficult to do maybe but that would be beast. Astro and Moss, I will get round to them one day.
Good games i would add rush and afected the manor good scary games in their own ways.
Can you play psvr without the tv???
you can. I turn the tv off while I am playing the psvr all the time with no problems
I’m really enjoying Catch & Release tbh
Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes was a good one for me.
New sub here....this video showed up in my feed because I'm huge into psvr.......great list!!!
I hope this is primary a psvr channel. 👍
We cover loads of stuff - VR videos are on Sundays! Check out the Ian’s VR Corner playlist for much more VR!
Where is Resident Evil 7 ??? :o
Starwurst Starkacke 100% most immersive and terrifying experience ever! Definitely in my top 20 list! 😜
RE came out before 2018 so can't be on this list.
@@gnomichome7492 true 🙄
Astro-Bot is so good
What about In Death??
arizona sunshine with the aim gun😍😍😍
How many of these games are digital only.
I hope they make more 1st person shooting games
