I absolutely love when you two hang out together. He said something amazing in that gardeners have something to look forward to. If people suffering with too much time and not enough to do gardened, I think they’d feel more fulfilled. Walking into the garden and seeing daily changes is pure joy!
He said it best when he said we always have something to look forward to as gardeners - especially this time of year when things change by the hour and the day - so much magical growth and beauty. Thanks for sharing this tour - you guys are such fun to watch♥
I live in dread of the day when I need to move to a retirement apartment. I hope I would have a balcony so I could continue to grow as many favorites as possible.
Oh my heavens he is delightful and his statement is so true: "there is always something to look forward to in the garden." Thank you, Jim, for sharing the experience.
I love it when you go visit Dr. A! He is hilarious, so so entertaining with a fountain of information! Thank you Jim for taking us along on this tour 😀😀😀
As much as I love your videos in your own garden, I just love these tours also. For those of us getting into gardening as our mid life crisis 🤣, I appreciate learning from all of these amazing gardeners. They are such a wealth of knowledge and I could just listen to them all day! Please continue these as much as you’re able…they’re very much appreciated and enjoyed!
"Sounds like i know what im doing, I have no idea what I'm doing. " 🤣🤣 I love this guy! My kind of gardener! Just man-handles plants, makes them do what he wants. He's great! "The two of us just sort of faked it for a while." "I couldn't design my way out of a paper bag" "Don't believe the books except....mine" "Sometimes evergreen means...everbrown" He is GOLD! Gonna have to buy his books and please have more videos with him!
I'm going to start saying that, as well, about my "garden". I always refer to it as my yard. No one would refer to your property as a yard, Ram. 👍 It's a beautiful garden, all the way!
Oh my goodness! I love this tour and each and every time you visit Dr. A. He not only is a wonderful and knowledgeable gardener - but his delivery breaks it all down without any fuss. His humor - priceless.... 'a yard is where prisoners exercise' - I don't think I'll ever forget that one. This video has made my afternoon :) Thank you, Jim and staff.
Best tour ever! I will watch this over and over. I especially love his simple , uncomplicated view of gardening and his humor! Just enjoy your garden and nature! I have learned a lot from you too, Jim. Thanks!
Loved this tour! Dr. A is so knowledgeable and enthusiastic. I could listen to him for hours. Thanks for bringing him to us Jim. I’m also into layers and especially ground covers. I also have clematis and even roses growing up trees. My aim is to eventually not see any soil or mulch… as he says that means less weeding!
I’m only half way through and I wish this tour were 2 hours longer! I love everything about this garden and want to hear about every detail… plus more wisdom from Dr. A! Hysterical and wise! “We always have something to look forward to.” That is the truth every gardener should put on a shirt! 😊
Omg I love this guy. No nonsense gardening. And does exactly what I do...sits on the deck with a glass of wine and enjoy the plants. Gardening is so frickin satisfying 🥰
I always love the Dr Armitage garden tours! First he’s such a hoot! Second he’s so knowledgeable and I always learn something! Thanks Dr A and thanks Jim!!
So true! I'm always looking forward to getting into the garden. Spring is amazing. I love the easy going gardening attitude of Dr. Armitage. So encouraging. Thank you both.
I love how you can see the Dr.’s passion for horticulture! It is beautiful and to top it off he makes someone like me ( beginner) feel like I can be a good gardener. He is so inspiring. Thank you Jim and thank you to the Dr. For allowing us into his beautiful garden
I sure enjoyed that Jim. Dr. A is great, such an upbeat personality. I loved his comment, "gardeners always have something to look forward to, some people don't". Very true. Thanks Jim
A true pleasure. His common sense advice is so helpful. I love when he said gardener's always have something to look forward to. It is so true...never a dull moment.
Wow Dr. A garden is so beautiful like paradise thank you very much Jim for another great tour please keep doing this thank you for sharing. 👍👍👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you Dr Allan Armitage. For sharing the free spirit of the Gardening like You do your 's . I will do my. Gardening is fun. Watching plants come and go, and coming back. Watching the seeds become beautiful plants is exciting. Love all plants, they have different functions in the garden. They look beautiful together. Thank YOU Dr A. Thank you Jim putnam.
I finally put a piece of crime scene banner on my shears. It worked for a while. Being yellow isn't such a standout when the field of Packera is blooming! I've given up on buying good shears, they just end up adding iron to the soil! I'm in good company here 😂
What a great tour of a wonderful garden! He kept saying, "I don't want to bore you..." not to worry. Personally, I would enjoy even a more detailed tour of the plants but this was great fun. I love plants too. Up close and far away, such joy they are. That very pale carex near the end of the video: what a gorgeous plant that is! It's huge! And that Chardonnay Pearls Deutzia, oh my! It will grow in my zone 5, and you've inspired me to get one!! I love all the common sense he's giving. When do you prune a flowering plant? After it flowers! Regarding the usual advice to leave bulb leaves until they're yellow: I don't think it is necessary for the leaves to go that far... what I mean is that the plant has produced and stored enough food to grow and make flowers next year long before the leaves turn yellow. So that's why it is OK to chop them before they get to the yellow stage. But as Dr. Armitage says, do give them a bit of time after the flowers are finished before cutting back the leaves. That's from my own experience, which fits with what Dr. Armitage says, that he can cut the leaves back by 1/2 and the bulbs do produce flowers next year.
Wonderful person to learn from. “Don’t belt the books, unless of course it’s mine”. Pure Facts. Lol. The air this always believe what they say. He is so wise. I would love to drink wine with him and tour his garden. And he is so correct about the garden keeping us alive. I love to explore mine 2-3 times a day.
I love Dr. A! I have a signed copy of his cut flower book. What a nice guy! This is the absolute best garden tour. I'm already planning on watching it again.
Refreshing approach to garden design/plant placement. Gardeners tend to fret too much at times. Rather just plant what you like around a few basic garden principles as he describes and then enjoy. If you decide you don't like something later then just try something different. That's truly part of the joy of gardening!
Wow! Be still my heart…Another great plantsman’s garden tour! These videos are the best, I hope there is another generation of great plantsmen who so enthusiastically share their knowledge coming along behind all these greats you’ve been sharing with us. Thank you Jim for bring us along for the ride.
I LOVE Dr. A! Most common sense gardener. Just love his great outlook on everything gardening. And when he said "Sun. Shade. Who cares!?" I laughed out loud. Love you guys and wish I lived closer to enjoy getting clippings from your wonderful garden. And "Get a garden, guys!" Yards are where prisoners exercise." Hilarious and so true! You need to make t-shirts with all of his sayings. Love ya'll!
another great tour ... Jim, you have the best job ever - traveling around (from time to time), visiting beautiful gardens and talking with some of the most knowledgeable, enthusiastic and inspirational horticulturists known to man ... thanks ever so much to you and all your guest for sharing your time, your years of gardening knowledge and your gardens !!!
Love Dr Armitage … what a great garden and a great guy … ! We Brits never say “yard” either …🤭 love his humour ..thanks for another great tour Jim and Steph
I loved this video and I love his way of gardening. Same here, I love to sit out on our deck and watch the birds and catching the colors of our gardens. Thank you for sharing with us.
For years. Every FG issue seemed to have an article or two from Dr. A. Thanks for this and thank you Dr. A for all your books and articles that helped me learn my perennials!
Plants can adapt...thank you. Real talk right there. All the fuss about sin or shade...the amount of rules i have broken being a total newbie to gardening...within reason...i'm just loving it 🤣. I just love this guy yards are where prisoners excercise...😆...love him! Beautiful garden. He needs his own channel. What a delightful man.
I always see Toad Lilly is listed as only hardy till Zone 8 but I've successfully grown it in Zone 9 (Houston). One of them is planted underneath a few very large deciduous trees so it gets dappled shade in the summer and part shade-sun in the winter-first half of spring. The other one is planted in a foundation bed by the north facing side of the house, it receives an hour or so of afternoon sun but the sun is somewhat dappled to a large tree on the westside of my house. Both of them flower beautifully and have shown growth/expanded after multiple years.
I absolutely love when you two hang out together. He said something amazing in that gardeners have something to look forward to. If people suffering with too much time and not enough to do gardened, I think they’d feel more fulfilled. Walking into the garden and seeing daily changes is pure joy!
Jim, thank you for featuring Dr. Armitage. I love that man. Such a wise soul.
This must be the best garden tour ever! If only the whole world was like you guys.
Thank you so much!
I would settle for finding ONE! It would sure be nice to share with someone else to enjoy.
Yep!
I love common sense ! Too many rules take the fun out of gardening! 🌸🇨🇦
He said it best when he said we always have something to look forward to as gardeners - especially this time of year when things change by the hour and the day - so much magical growth and beauty. Thanks for sharing this tour - you guys are such fun to watch♥
Yep. In my 7th decade. Gardening is what gets me up in the morning right now!!!
I live in dread of the day when I need to move to a retirement apartment. I hope I would have a balcony so I could continue to grow as many favorites as possible.
Omg .. I love this man ! He is so funny , he needs his own channel! Beautiful gardens ❤️❤️❤️❤️
He really is!
I was laughing every time after Jim laughing 😂😂
Oh my heavens he is delightful and his statement is so true: "there is always something to look forward to in the garden." Thank you, Jim, for sharing the experience.
He doesn’t bore us…i love seeing the different species of plants.
I love it when you go visit Dr. A! He is hilarious, so so entertaining with a fountain of information! Thank you Jim for taking us along on this tour 😀😀😀

I love how he lets plants just be plants, doesn't try to control them too much
"Sounds like i know what im doing, I have no idea what I'm doing. " 🤣🤣 I love this guy! My kind of gardener! Just man-handles plants, makes them do what he wants. He's great!
"The two of us just sort of faked it for a while."

He is GOLD! Gonna have to buy his books and please have more videos with him!
Dr. A definitely does NOT bore me! I could hear him for hours.😁
Dr. Armitage is a wealth of information, delightful and entertaining. He makes gardening fun. I am also a proportion of having layers of plants.
Enjoyed this so much! Especially the line about “yards” being a place for prisoners to exercise. Great tour!
That was so funny !!!
"I look like Mr. Garden Dweeb", Dr. A. exclaimed. Priceless! He's the BEST!
"Don't believe the books 📚 except of course mine"... Hilarious 🤣🤣🤣
I love what he said this a garden , not a yard.
I'm going to start saying that, as well, about my "garden". I always refer to it as my yard. No one would refer to your property as a yard, Ram. 👍 It's a beautiful garden, all the way!
There’s “silly old women in hats ” in gardens too…lol…love your attitude!
Oh what a lovely man! And I love his pruning lesson … that’s all we need to know! 🤣
