  • Let's take a look back at Air Combat, a launch title for the Sony Playstation. The first game in the long running Ace Combat series.
Special thanks to the channel Always Game Over for ripping a good copy of the "Powered by Namco" promo used in this video.

My father and I used to have dogfights and we would both use the a10 warthog. This is one of my favorite memories i will cherish forever.

Early Namco releases were very popular, and with good reason. It was a time when “arcade quality at home” was a very exciting concept.
Air Combat, Tekken, and Ridge Racer - although primitive compared to their later sequels, were jaw dropping considering the 16-bit games I was used to.

Yes, I agree. It's easy to dismiss if you weren't there at the time. Playing these games at home was something we dreamed about...and we got it.

This is actually one of my favorite ps1 games; I found it at a thrift store!! My actual favorites are Klonoa, Resi 2, and Cyberbots😎

This was my favourite game as a kid! I used to play split screen with my brother and I'm pretty sure it spawned my interest in Aircraft and metal music (along with the 1995 F1 game with the Joe Satriani themetune and Road Rash's Grunge OST) Thanks for the nostalgia trip

This game launched my appreciation for the franchise, I even wear patches from 5 as SeaGoblin Rescue Team while playing airsoft. Great review but one point to make, the wingmen aren't completely useless - sometimes following them leads to other enemy planes.

It really nails the fun gameplay of the series right from this start. Interesting note about the wingmen, that may be why they seemingly get stuck in certain spots, probably fighting an enemy plane in a never ending loop.

Soundtrack was always my favorite! I would play the soundtrack for fun just dancing around all by my 5 year old self 😊

This games soundtrack kickstarted my interest in learning to play guitar as cheesy as the soundtrack is. To this day the mission songs hot air and headfirst stuck in my head since this games launch.

Air Combat is worse than Warhawk (imo)

I think Warhawk is probably better overall, but I do love the combat in Air Combat.
