Regarding the removable long piece, consider dividing it into 2 or 3 pieces so the owner has the option to only open up a section. Plus it would be easier to do without needing to exit the vehicle in case of heavy rain. In addition, one of the pieces could be used as a small table top that attaches to the shelf since the owner would be in a sitting position anyway.
Was also thinking that the removable piece could be used as an angled bench seat back with double layers of foam mattress cusions. When you want the full size bed, just move the bench seat back over into that position and reposition the 3 sections of mattress cusions.
This is exactly how I was thinking of building out my toyota pickup. Love the idea of the movable middle platform, can fit a bike while driving and makes into a larger bed when camping. Love it.
Congratulations on creating a business doing something you're naturally gifted to do. I'm a good scavenger and find quite a bit of discarded dimensional lumber. I'm going to follow this plan and try to do a no-cost build in my Suburban for weekend camping trips. Thanks for posting.
Excellent build. I’d like to know how he keeps water from getting in by the top corners of the tailgate. I have a tundra and leer cap and there’s a big gap where water gets in.
Awesome build brother, that is one the cleanest precise builds I’ve seen. Keep up the great work, this is Alan, GREETINGS from Riverside in Southern California.
A very nice, clean build-out! What puzzles me is that truck-owners who want a build-out often get cab-high shells which gives you essentially no living space at all. All the companies that make shells have models that are about 6" higher ... like my SnugTop Hi-Liner.
Excellent work as always, simply and functional, a how to..., on transfer measurements around the critical parts of the bed truck tricky angles would be great. Thank you for the time and share!
Dude! This exactly what I want to do to my tundra. I have the crew max. Shorter bed. Can you add some power to a compartment to charge phone or plug in laptop or a fan?
Great work here. Wish I was closer to California. So with builds like this, is there an easy way to take them apart and take them out or are they kind of a “permanent structure?” If they are able to come out, can you post a video of assembly and/or disassembly?
Really like your simple but functional design you did in this Rundra truck? Do you have a similar project done for a “18 Toyota Tacoma long bed . I don’t have a camper shell yet on my truck but I am leaning in having a camper, both as a daily driver and maybe a weekend outdoor Rec vehicle.
I've often wondered with these double cab pickups whether you can knock through to create a large living area, or whether there must be an air gap between the bulkheads.
As a woodworker myself, and soon to be nomad, I'm curious what type of finish you apply to your projects, including edges of plywood, to ensure longevity of the end product. Do you round-over to ease wear & tear, or are these builds understood to be light use/temporary/occasional use? I'm currently struggling with NOT applying a polyurethane to the wood frame & panel elements in my vehicle (meant for ling term use), knowing that I'll be sleeping in the enclosed space - but also concerned about exposure to weather (mostly rain) when doors or rear hatch are open (SUV, in my case). Do you leave this entirely up to the customer to request, or do you suggest something? For the horizontal surfaces of my build, I've applied a marine grade vinyl with 3M 77 adhesive, with some area reserved for fridge & misc. gear covered with removable rubber matting. I've been trying to get rid of the rubber smell of the matting by scrubbing with Simple Green, and power washing, but after two cycles I still smell the rubber. Do you do builds that are intended for rugged, long term use? If so, what materials & finishes do you swear by?
Hey there thanks for the question, I mostly leave the finishing up to the customers because It saves them money and they can pick exactly what color they want. But yes it does help to clear coat any wood coming into contact with moisture.
I dig your bed builds and as a builder they are very inspiring too! One main question that came to mind was have you ever done and before/after weight comparison? Im curious to see how much this set adds to the rear of the truck. Thanks for sharing your builds!
Hey man, how would I go about getting ahold of you? I would love to pay you for some rough plans of this. Maybe put to scale for my first gen tundra. Lemme know, this is sweet!
Hey, Brian love your videos and knowledge of woodworking!! the only question I can't seem to answer from your videos is regarding the base/floor platform itself? Do you drill into the truck bed itself to keep it in place or am I missing something? Keep the videos coming. Inspired homie!
I am looking for the same build you have shown on your RUclips channel for the Tundra pickup. For my Toyota Tacoma. Would you have the diagram or prints and measurements so I can have someone else that has the equipment to cut and measure for my truck?
This is almost exactly what I plan to do, except smaller scale in a colorado ZR2 long bed. I'm curious as to what the total weight of this unit works out to. How much of my payload will get chewed up by just the unit?
Always enjoy your builds, I'm sure the customer will be happy. I also have to comment on the video quality here, man that video looks good! Those early shots are super crisp with a lot of detail. Looks like I need to be working more in 1080p60
I’m planning this exact layout in my tundra. Same setup. Do you think a pullout fridge would fit on the passenger side rear and still be able to do the single to double conversion bed?
Another fab build! I’d love almost that exact setup only backwards. I have a Thule fork mount on the left side so I’d need the drawer on the right side and the cabinet/storage unit in the left but only 5’ long to allow the bike to mount and space for a KP gas tank and fire ext to be strapped in. Y the tailgate. I’m sure you are to far away to build it for me
OMG please start selling plans for this. I want to do this with my Tacoma.
Thank God God is good woohoo yes Amen ✝️❤️😇🙏
Tundra is better than Tacoma
How much for something like this

that would be a great idea
He's done that on other builds similar to this.
Was also thinking that the removable piece could be used as an angled bench seat back with double layers of foam mattress cusions. When you want the full size bed, just move the bench seat back over into that position and reposition the 3 sections of mattress cusions.
Great idea.
This is exactly what I'm looking for! Nice work Brian
I’ve been waiting for this video to come, this is exactly what I want to do to mine. You do great work man! Love watching what you build.
Well made, clean work. Congrats.
I slide my bed extention under the mattress. So it stays clean.

have you thought about having that removable section becoming the back of a couch to lean against? Looks good!
Ive had a customer use it like that before yea.
@@SolidWoodWorx where are u located do u ship
Fantastic build
Love it. Looking to build those over wheel setups on both sides of my 250.
Awesome build brother, that is one the cleanest precise builds I’ve seen. Keep up the great work, this is Alan, GREETINGS from Riverside in Southern California.

valid point, but if you are a paddler, the cab height shell makes it much easier to load and tie down boats on top.
Leer model 122….
Yes i want this but i'm in Canada would definitely purchase a plan!
Excellent build! Perfect layout !!
This looks so cool! Love how every bit of space was utilized
Nice work brother.
That is one awes build! I would love the plans to build out my F-150 short bed truck!!! Awesome job!!!
Did u get the plans? I have an F150 too.
Sick. I've been looking for a solution for my tundra and this is perfect. Thanks for sharing
Great build 👍🏼
Hello. LOVE your work! Honestly an artwork. I love the cabinetry on the passenger side. Do you sell a template for that? Kindly, Elaine 🤘
We don’t sorry
Nice want one like that
This is soooo sick! I would love to get a set up like this
I love your work
I want this for my tundra sr5
Love this build. Am I able to buy plans for this build? I have a 2019 tundra. Thanks
Brilliant simple camper, I love it,great job. 👍🇬🇧
Great set up , looking for Tacoma ideas as I'm getting a Tacoma in a month and looking for ideas , so I'll subscribe and be following
This is absolutely perfect. Just need to find a way to make it removable
Excellent work as always, simply and functional, a how to..., on transfer measurements around the critical parts of the bed truck tricky angles would be great. Thank you for the time and share!
Just finished a build in my truck inspired from this design! Awesome builds as always!
What a legend
Nice work. Like the set up. Awesome skills
Absolutely killer. Well done sir!!!
Awesome job how much do you Charge to do this work on this Truck also how much to do this same thing to a Toyota Tacoma sport truck 4 # 4
Cup holders would be convenient
Great Video and another excellent piece of craftsmanship.....
Dude! This exactly what I want to do to my tundra. I have the crew max. Shorter bed. Can you add some power to a compartment to charge phone or plug in laptop or a fan?
Of course
Iam trying to build something similar in my frontier. Where do i find these blue prints. This is a perfect layout. Thanks in advanced!
Unfortunately no blueprints were made from this design.
@@SolidWoodWorx no worries, thanks for the response. Do you recall how much it cost for wood in this build?
I wish I could havo you work on my truck but I'm too far away please sell the plans for this!
Very cool. I would love a similar set up for my 17 Honda Pilot.
Clean and simple . Love it
hello brian, what type of ply wood and thickness was used in this build? thank you
Mostly 3/4" thanks
Brilliant !!! Good job !
Really nice

Most builds that i do are permanent
I’m going do build something like that ina f150 l would like to see you plans
where do you buy your plywood? that stuff is primo.
Weber in Santa Ana, Ca
Nice work

How do you protect it from mold/moisture over time?
What thickness do you use for the sleeping platform? Would 3/4” be enough?
Yes
I've often wondered with these double cab pickups whether you can knock through to create a large living area, or whether there must be an air gap between the bulkheads.
Well the bes moves separately from the cab, but that would b cool
Do you have plans for this Baja build?
I do not sorry
Looks great... how is the camper shell attached? No clamps?
Thereare clamps
Great Job!!
Nice setup..

Hey looking to do this to my Tundra, what is the depth of the pullout draw under the bed?
I would have you do it, but I am in Texas😊
60"
I dig your bed builds and as a builder they are very inspiring too! One main question that came to mind was have you ever done and before/after weight comparison? Im curious to see how much this set adds to the rear of the truck. Thanks for sharing your builds!
I can only guesstimate how much the wood that im putting in weighs.

Great looking build man. Clean & simple design.
Love this. Offer this for a 2012 Ram Power Wagon please! :)

Yes attach it with 1.25" self taping meal screws in areas with nothing under them and liquid nails glue
where you located so I can have this for my truck? thanks for sharing
Unfortunately i am not taking on custom work like this anymore sorry.
I am looking for the same build you have shown on your RUclips channel for the Tundra pickup. For my Toyota Tacoma. Would you have the diagram or prints and measurements so I can have someone else that has the equipment to cut and measure for my truck?
I dont
Nice job!
Love it, ur too good! 💕🤙🏼
Clean work brother! 👍
Do you have the specs and measurements? Or How much is this?
I dont sorry
That’s is such a cool built 👍🏻
This is almost exactly what I plan to do, except smaller scale in a colorado ZR2 long bed. I'm curious as to what the total weight of this unit works out to. How much of my payload will get chewed up by just the unit?
I’d imagine it weighs 400lbs or so
Another beautiful finish...👌👌
What exact screws do you use to attach the build to the bed? Also is there any trick to doing this step?
Self taping metal screws
How did you secure it to the bed? Also did you just lay the ply over the bed or did you fill in the gaps in the bottom
I secure it with self taping metal screws. On this build I just layed ply over the bed. Thanks
how thick is the piece used as a back panel along the side of the truck bed?
3/4”
I would like to purchase this build from you as well. How do I go back doing that? Your setup is awesome.
Thank you but unfortunately I don’t do custom work like this anymore
Amazing!!!
Just curious, how did u secure this to the bed?
Self tapping metal screws
When it comes to the shelves do you freehand the rounded corners or do you have a template?
The cubby holes I freehand
Check out Drifta Drawers in Australia.
Yup I know of them
Nice engineering
How much would a build similar to this cost on a 5 foot tacoma? Live nearby
Send me an email
Have you built in a 5.5 crewmax truck bed yet?
look on my page under the truck conversion playlist.
How do you attach the wooden floor to the truck bed?
Pocket holes and self tapping metal screws
Are you still building these? I’m
Interested in a build for my new Gen 3 Tundra 6.5 bed
I am not unfortunately.
How easy is it to remove the whole setup, in case the owner needs the bed for something else?
could do it in 30 minutes i imagine. But i also the customer didnt need it removed so i made it pretty strong to the bed.
How do you secure the build to the truck?
The floor is secured through the truck bed and everything is screwed to the floor as well as a few into bed rail rail

Any chance of getting a cut sheet for this build?
Didn’t make one everything was piece by piece
I’m planning this exact layout in my tundra. Same setup. Do you think a pullout fridge would fit on the passenger side rear and still be able to do the single to double conversion bed?
For sure
Super

what do you use on the wood to help seal it from moisture?
