Got a different question, can bedrolls be damaged/destroyed during a wolf struggle? I’ve seen someone on Reddit post about it but I’ve never seen in in over 300 hours on stalker and nothing about it on the wiki.
32:46 "Can't you just use the same match?" Yes. Yes you can(and did.) Notice that on your second firestart attempt you have 11 matches left out of the original 12. This one fooled me(and pretty much everyone else from what I can tell) for the longest time. Hinterland so primed us to believe that the "match striking sound" was us wasting a new match(with torches), that we never noticed it's a red herring in this particular instance :)
Zak, try playing in mod ,,Solstice", which introduces the seasons and polar days/nights.Great mod, I have it in late autumn (day 338) and it's bright for 3 hours, and 21 hours is night
The only think I can think of is finding the moosehide satchel that spawns in hushed river valley and harvesting that. But even then I don't think that spawns on interloper.
I had a laugh too when he did that.... There's so many things to think about in this game, you can be forgiven the odd oversight.... If it doesn't kill you of course. ;)
Also imo you should have picked "Blizzard Walker" as a trait for this run for two reasons. 1. It fits Thematically 2. You will be walking into the wind ALOT
Watching where you are on the map, even if it's just at key points in the video would be very interesting, especially for people who don't know the maps as well.
Good thing they fixed the clothing not drying in front of a fire when wearing it. That got a lot of people in trouble the first time they experienced that bug!
There's this saying "never say never", well, for this challenge I would say... "Me? Never". I'm not even able to navigate on HTN (some call it HRV but I call it Hell To Navigate) in broad day light, let alone anywhere else in the world in a blizzard. Thanks a lot for doing this for "me"! LoL!
Hey Arch! Love your videos too, still can't forget your 500 day fire Oddessy trek in that first series video, best most impressive long dark achievement I have ever seen
Wild run, looks brutal. It would be neat if they allowed you to use a car battery and scrap metal to make a fire. The battery could be recharged during an aurora.
I enjoy all TLD videos you make. I think I would enjoy this type of story line more if the eternal blizzard weren't quite so eternal. Perhaps once every day or two "anti- storms" or periods of calmer weather could "breakout". Three or four hours of calm or just slightly less inclement weather you would have to take rapid advantage of. It might occur as you sleep and the opportunity missed. It would be interesting to see hard choices being made when you just came in, tired and half frozen, then you notice the sound of the storm subside. Should you stay and recover or take a chance on good weather holding long enough to harvest that deer carcass which would otherwise be unobtainable? Still brutal, yet a more dynamic drama. I can't wait for your next video, whatever it is.
I have an idea for something similar called The Mist. Instead of blizzard its dense fog meaning wolves are around. Every 10 days there is sunshine and aurora.
I am always amazed how you manage to make such difficult challenges seem so easy and enjoyable ... But I really enjoy watching you do those than do them myself. Great video as usual!
24:38 TOILET...!!!!!!!!! My clothes for a God Damn Toilet...!!!!!!!! Oh how looking and drinking toilet water, could feel and taste so sweet... 😋 I laughed so loud when you found the toilet, Zak.... My high-light of the game... Starting of any game always, to me feels like the best part of a game...
Eternal blizzard? Oh no thank you Sir! 😂 When I play long dark, I imagine that there are survivors somewhere like I am and that some day everything is going to change and life is going to bloom again, that miracles happen. So, I'm going to keep the hope while doing my best to survive until then and beyond ❤😊
Zak struggling in the dark to drink toilet water XD. They should really add some quality of life thing where your eyes adapt a little to the obscurity and you can see a little more because this is a situation I have encountered too many times. In under an hour you manged to find quality tools and a skillet, I still haven't found some in my run after 15 days. This challenge would be even harder with the new update since you can't harvest the deer without a hacksaw anymore, so no early guts. Quite a difficult challenge for an average player, I get lost even with clear weather outside of roads so I will never try this one. You could continue, trying to get the backpack and get to the summit.
Hey Zak, don't get too upset about not finding wool socks. I had to wait until around day 150 to get my second pair. Also they only give an extra 0.3°C warmth over the sports socks!
I think this was a very successful experiment, and hope you continue this particular journey. It adds a great deal of dramatic tension to the run, and also provides an intense feeling of safety/sanctuary/relief when you make it back to shelter. Well done!
Just wanted to give you props for your content. I've owned this game and played it on and off since release, but your videos have made me play it constantly for the first time in YEARS. Thanks for the amazing content and keep it up!
I enjoyed this content. I would like to see how the beach combing mechanics would work in the eternal blizzard as well as traveling from one region to the next. I think it adds an element of the unknown that is unique to this type of challenge that’s outside of dealing with wolves. Maybe you can add timberwolves in certain regions to add spice. Please crest more of this challenge
Definitely would be interested in seeing another run like this. Your channel has actually convinced me to buy and go for the platinum for this game on PlayStation. Should be fun once I clear the current games I’m going.
This seems like it would be a good challenge to combine with “naked” runs, since the blizzard will shred your clothes anyway and you’ll nearly always be “three arrows down” cold.
I think Stalker would be a bit to "easy" for your skills. For me it has been very interesting seeing you struggle sometimes and how you have to go for a different strategic approach, like really keep caring about your clothes even if they're not that good kind of clothes. It also seems like it pushed you a bit to the limits and you had quite a good time recording it!
I think another cool challenge if possible would be to make every night an Aurora with clear skies. Maybe u could also have the dark walker feat enabled too. I was thinking that the darkwalker could maybe spawn randomly too…like a percent chance to spawn at night and go away after a certain amount of time. Not sure if this is possible to do or if it’s too difficult or anything but it would be crazy to see! This challenge was very interesting to watch!
You did use the same match to light the stove that you used to look around the room. When you went for second lighting attempt you still had 11 matches. Learned something new
I was inspired by this channel to do a custom challange myself, I always call it "The Caveman" Challange, I did it in The Forest and 7 Days to Die. The idea is complete rejection of modern technology, artificial food, Items, structures or Clothes. So in the case of this game it will be a combination of outerloper, naked, birch bark, torched craftsman. There are some consolidations to make, what is technology simply irreplacable for survival? What is tech that has natural alternatives? And what is tech that you can live without? It's like the worst combo of the past challanges I saw on this channel. Like, the longer you think about it the more you see how hard it is.
Very good video and well done. Knowing where your at and where to go are key when starting this challenge. The beginning was a bit of drama as It looked like you wouldn't find matches but the way you adapted to find them was superb problem solving. PV does have a lot of resources so I'm wondering if you were to spawn in an area where they are limited, would you have survived? Maybe in a future video we'll find out. Either way this was a very informative, interesting and entertaining run.
I wonder what this would be like if you adjusted the aurura setting to high frequency. Might also need to turn off parasites or set them as low as possible. Very interesting and cool concept.
Looks pretty difficult, but you somehow made it look not too bad! I'd be interested to see a similar challenge, but instead of eternal blizzard, how about eternal aurora? Interloper loot but with stalker animals. I like the idea of mods for these special challenges. Otherwise, like you, I prefer vanilla game play.
Ok so I’m watching for the second time. This time completely. I was wondering if you do decide to perform this challenge again. Maybe you can do it in FA or ZOC? Just because you may not be as familiar with the area… just a thought
No doubt this will be an amazing challenge. Looking forward to watching this Z Just a thought before I start watching, does this mean that there's no viable beach combing mechanic 🤔 This will be interesting.
A couple quick questions: 1) would it be possible to snare rabbits in rabbit areas (I have placed right before a blizzard and checked again during blizzard and have caught rabbits) and 2) I guess there will be no Auroras, so no getting to Fluffy, right?
This mode seems a little depressing since long term survival is impossible? You can't chain fires, can't use the maglens, and even beachcombing items won't respawn (right?). So you're going to just run out of matches and die pretty quickly no matter what you do?
Hey Zak, about the fire going off for no apparent reasons, seems like when the wind changes direction it does like a 1080° rotation before choosing from where it will blow, therefore blows the fire off, happens to me all the time :/ great chalenge btw :D
You get a cured bear hide in one of the nine normal bunkers in interloper. I know because I got the stocked bunker in HRV and also i've got the bear hide from the locked box. I'm doing a 50 days in each region loper challenge , starting in HRV and was very lucky to get the stocked bunker. However i don't have a knife so can't make the bear coat!
No, you are mistaken. There are nine normal bunkers on interloper, and not the large ones which are part of Signal Void. One of these nine bunkers is randomized to contain a bunch of skins, cured maple, beech, food, matches, cloth, tools and leather. And most importantly a workbench! If you watch the replay of Wonz's Hunger in the Dark challenge he gets such a bunker in Forlorn Muskeg on his third or forth attempt. As it is random though you might have to search the entire world for it.
If anything this shows us blizzards aren't really that scary. A Blizzard has never personally ended my run it's usually been a side effect of pressure or panic.
I find the tip-ups superior. When the line breaks you don’t lose your fishing hook, it only takes damage. Also, are you able to make snares for rabbits?
So Since the latest update I've noticed that I no longer lose health while freezing if I'm quartering a carcass. Started quartering a bear which takes 2 hours. I was cold instantly but didn't lose any health after I started to freeze. This a bug or a new feature. Would make doing this challenge a lot easier then normal.
I somehow prefer this challenge the most, just the blizzard and already so much more intimidating and enticing. Although about challenges overall. Regions play a huge role in the difficulty of survival and I noticed you tend to stay in the easier regions while doing the challenges. Instead how about constraining yourself to tougher less known regions like Timberwolf Mountain, Ash Canyon, Blackrock or Forlorn Muskeg, Bleak Inlet, Broken Railroad?
I could do that but there would have to be a reason to go there, as its a strategy to go to the "easier" regions. But as you may have seen, I have spawned in other regions many times, like Blackrock or Bleak Inlet. I will consider it, though
First of all: he knows every region very well. And some challenges are not possible in some regions. For example this: you need to have shelter with bed in the beginning… some regions don’t offer this… like hrv…
Getting a lot of questions about rabbits and if snares still work in blizzards. Truthfully, I am not sure, but can test it when I have a chance.
I thought blizzards ruined snares?
