I am subbed to so many british motovloggers that I know the layout of London by heart and I live in Australia. Not sure if that is a good or bad thing.
I have learned so much about filtering just from your videos. I don't live in/around a busy city so I don't really do it that much, but from what I've picked up it's all about awareness, spacial awareness, making your presence known, and confidence. This helps on the few times I do pop into town on my bike! Usually it's just a toy! I also love double bloody deckers.
If the junction controlled by the lights has a straight on lane, and a separate right filter lane, controlled by two sets of lights on the board, when the Green appears on the main set of lights, making progress in the right filter lane is acceptable even if the filter lights are red. If ive got that right? Highway code, point 177. ' green filter arrow. indicates a filter lane only.do not enter lane unless you wish to proceed in that direction. you may proceed in the direction of the arrow when it, or the full green light shows.'
Used to work just after those lights on carnaby street, and could see them from where I parked my bike. I used to try and time putting on all my gear and warming the bike so I rolled through a green to save being stationary for long enough to feel utter rage. It's a small thing but like you say there is no need! Love the videos by the way, subscribed a few months back and have been looking forward to new uploads ever since. Keep it up!
In Paris not only the bikes but the cars (and vans if they can manage it) will follow ambulances in a little line... When I went to Paris for two weeks and had 2 (minor) accidents... even though I was doing very little driving
You're forgetting just how old England, and London in particular, actually are. We can't just shut it off for 24 weeks while we improve the roads. Or push a couple of 400-year-old buildings backwards so we can widen the roads and add another lane. We're just kinda stuck with what we've got, mate. =/ We were already overcrowded in the 1800s, hence the idea for the London Underground came in the 1830s, it was built in the 1850s and opened in 1863. Your comment is almost 200 years too late pal. =]
probably not a lot in it but you could go straight on at piccadilly up shaftesbury ave, then up wardour street - might be quicker than waiting at those lights.
At the red light that takes ages you could go straight then do a u turn and turn left into the street your trying to go down I think that might save you some time
In answer to the light - because they can't guarantee the road will be clear, ie. the straight on the opposite way is on green. They actually make it better by making the left turn and straight on the way your coming from on green whilst the straight on and left the other way is green rather than one of the other.
There is a traffic light in my area that just does not recognize me! I know it's not the bike because I have tried more than a few bikes. It gets me every time! I have to wait for a car to pull up behind me for the lights to even work!
Think i have the same problem. The nights never change for a right turn on the dual carrageway, on the the way home i have to wait for a car as well -.-
Hey Baron, just stumbled across these videos on complete accident. I love Bike Vloggers, and you're one of the best i've seen man! Such gentlemanly riding, lmao. Can't wait to check out more of your stuff mate
Using the horn to let drivers know you're there seems logical, but if it was myself, I'd think someone was complaining about something. Most people only use their horns in anger.
Rule 112 - highway code. 'The horn. Use only while your vehicle is moving and you need to warn other road users of your presence. Never sound your horn aggressively.'
I don't live in London and never been there, But I assume it means the the the arrow applies to the light set above it, So the arrow is just a street sign that tells users that the right traffic light is for those who want to move right, So people don't get confused between the light to go forward as their time to turn.
jeez u come along way since you first started vlogging good to see and why not your vids and humour are very entertaining i tend to get bored of a lot of other guys channels but u keep it fresh just makes me sad i aint got my bike no more till next year ohh well
no you take your hand of the clutch, if you need your front and back brake then you always have control over how fast you move when the hand covers the brake and the throttle.. that's for while moving
Hashed area had a broken line meaning you can enter if safe to do so. That 'safe to do so' is of course subjective, but unless you cause others to change their course then I can't see you being pulled up, unless your doing it all the time and your general riding is showing non consideration for others. Being on the phone is not what I would call a small law. Its one that (in my opinion) isn't dealt with tough enough. What do you think the drivers attention was on. The phone or the road?
We have 2 sets of lights like that near me. The council's reasoning is that if they stop people at the light it stops the intersection getting clogged. My argument is that the intersection could just as easily become clogged when the light turns green and due to the stream of waiting traffic, it is more likely to happen. They don't have an answer to that.
I have seen those planning maps in London, they say we are gonna make this section a pain in the rear so BVG can Grumble some more about this here. True!
In the town near my house we have really stupid traffic lights like that too. But you know whats the best part? The town is roughly 3 miles end to end and there is 15 sets of traffic lights. 15!
hi baron i really liked 2:38 to about 3:04 because it was pretty "informational" (lol) and its a nice feel to see/hear what you are thinking as you are riding on the roads in these situations, nice video mate :)
+Boris theBlade It's to give a positive visual indication that you acknowledge another road user which maintains eye contact and doesn't make it appear that you're just checking to ensure that your tank is still there. It also maintains eye contact, if you could see the eyes... Plus it's quick and easy to do.
nice video yet again :P the extreme filtering was pretty good, I probably wouldn't have thought of it! It's funny seeing roads that I've ridden down on your videos, you never know I might even end up riding past you like Danny did.
In America they have a flashing yellow saying if no one is coming you can go....now that's on left turns which would be the equivalent of the British right turn
Listen Baron. You're big on change. Contact the traffic planning board and make a formal complaint using your video as proof for making that right turn at the intersection. You even have it timed! Perfect. It might serve you well and give us an episode or two as to the outcome. Good for some extra ranting and raving. Plus you'll bolster your philosophy about changing things for the better.
Was literally just talking about stop light planning 30 minutes ago. But, in Vegas, because of how many 'accidental' accidents they've had, their intersections only permit one side, of the four, to go at a time. And, to add insult to injury, each turn is allotted about 2 minutes. So, at every intersection, there's a potential to wait 6 minutes before you can proceed, even when there's only light or no traffic. When you're in it, it's the STUPIDEST thing.
You should invent a single-track ambulance. It could be set up as a series of hitched cars, like a train, with a driver up front and a cat riding in a caboose to steer the back end. The cars inbetween could be gyroscopically balanced. The patient would be strapped onto a lowboy, with IVs dangling above. EMTs could ride on swingarms mounted on cars fore and aft, so they can attend the patient. The cat could have a collar with a bell on it.
I'm with him, as fun as those games are, do not expect them to be short, and do not expect yourself to be able to just "set down the controller" before you're done with em either
I have a turn like that near mine in Singapore. I think its for the busy pedestrian crossing in case vehicles turn during poor visibility. Mine is by a school so they turn the arrow off on weekends. I don't think city planners are to blame, i think London is just a bit of a beast in terms of size and complexity so its bound to have a few messed up turns. Also crowded as shit roads. When i visit my grandparents there, my balls seize up when i see the traffic. Definitely would not ride in London.
I was watching a Police Blue Light run, when approaching traffic lights the instructor said to turn off the sirens. It puts unwanted pressure on drivers ahead that are waiting at a red light. The idea, is to avoice the situation you had by encouraging drivers to go through the red light and then carry on like you did. Can be highly dangerous, but obv this wasn't the case in your situation and the abm didn't turn off the sirens... Public Services can be confusing sometimes! Ride Safe! :D
Whenever i saw ambulances in central london- i would always think -glad they are not coming for me - so slow. A lot of your riding - i think you don’t realize how fast a bike is compared to a car - your on them before they realize it. People to, when crossing.
Oh man, this is hilarious - I don't know about elsewhere, but I've got Barcaly's ads showing up on my screen atm. I tried to post a link to a screen capture I made, but it seems I'm unable to post links in comment boxes.
haha so many things you say make me laugh, the barclay bike, "can i fit between this bus?" (in the camp voice) then swearing but bleeping it out hehahaaaaaaaaa
Hmm... I don't think I would have gone against that Red light after the ambulance. The safest thing is to wait until your green. You can stop in the yellow box - the rule is not to enter unless your exit is clear. I appreciate everyone is different however.
I spent an hour and a half once trying to find my way to Cafe Nero / Bar Italia on Frith Street for a SV650.org biker meet. I just got stuck going round all of the one way systems for 90mins, screaming to myself in my lid! Horrible.
if your obstructing an emergency sevice on a blue light call, box or not, you are allowed to go through a red light to let it pass, as long as you feel its safe to do so..
Hopefully it will stay clear, just dont forget your checks, and then, check again, and maybe again, and emphasize those checks so you know the instructor saw them, now sure if this will help you, but when i did it i was told to think of the examiner as a sat nav, just telling you where to go, it sort of helps the nerves :)
Barron I'm sure if your turning right you can wait inside the yellow box. Yeh yeh I know it's not applicable in this case but I just thought I better point it out. Merry Christmas Barron & family.
still find my self 8 years on binge watching baron, were ever you are i hope you are well.
Hey me too!!
Hes uploading regularly on the other channel with Al and others on "44teeth"
Same! 😁
I am subbed to so many british motovloggers that I know the layout of London by heart and I live in Australia. Not sure if that is a good or bad thing.
Watching all your old videos man, such a blast from the past!
''Do you wanna hear my baby impression'' That had me chuckling
"I don't mind waiting for these things, pedestrians, whatever..." pmsl
I have learned so much about filtering just from your videos. I also love double bloody deckers.
Love the filterage..especially the wrong side of the road, round the lorry type filterage....lovely!
Baron, the comments are just about, just, as good as the vlog! Thank you I needed that today.
VonGrumble strikes again! Excellent video, excellent grumbling! Keep it up!!!
It's to come back to these old vids to see the GSXR and to see how much happier you are now. :)

Man I wish filtering like that was legal in Germany.
by far one of the funniest/best bike vloggers out mate, keep it up ey mateee!
Used to work just after those lights on carnaby street, and could see them from where I parked my bike. I used to try and time putting on all my gear and warming the bike so I rolled through a green to save being stationary for long enough to feel utter rage. Keep it up!
Certainly did not expect to hear a tremendous baby impression half way through this!
Much love!
In Paris not only the bikes but the cars (and vans if they can manage it) will follow ambulances in a little line... When I went to Paris for two weeks and had 2 (minor) accidents... even though I was doing very little driving
I'm from Birmingham, and the "where's the tissue boxes? He must've lost them" almost had me spewing tea all over my laptop!

probably not a lot in it but you could go straight on at piccadilly up shaftesbury ave, then up wardour street - might be quicker than waiting at those lights.
You are the king of filtering. You should run filtering courses. Hope you have a great Christmas and a Fantastic New Year. Ride Safe !!
I like the fast action commentary, around the Albert Hall. Most enjoyable!
At the red light that takes ages you could go straight then do a u turn and turn left into the street your trying to go down I think that might save you some time
Would this have worked Chris?
In answer to the light - because they can't guarantee the road will be clear, ie. the straight on the opposite way is on green. Pressure senors in the road.
:-)
i always get exited when i hear the little intro jingle :D
Thanks for mentioning Marmite, I had a ad for it at the end lol.
I want one really badly as well. Well that's awesome, hopefully Baron catches a few of my subscribers
Think i have the same problem. The nights never change for a right turn on the dual carrageway, on the the way home i have to wait for a car as well -.-

Using the horn to let drivers know you're there seems logical, but if it was myself, I'd think someone was complaining about something. Most people only use their horns in anger.
makes sense like but it needs to be done in a busy place like London
Rule 112 - highway code.
'The horn. Use only while your vehicle is moving and you need to warn other road users of your presence. Never sound your horn aggressively.'
Rule 112 yea that been broken alot me MOVE YOUR FING ASS............horn !
@@Nox1234567891011 Yep, in most cases that is alerting them that you are there at the same time so it's okay.

Here in Canada, we have to pull over and come to a stop on a two lane highway,(bothways) to allow the Emrg vehicle to pass
no you take your hand of the clutch, if you need your front and back brake then you always have control over how fast you move when the hand covers the brake and the throttle.. that's for while moving
Listening to your commentary is like hearing my own thoughts as I watch the video.
It's amazing how similar the way we think is. :-)
I cant believe I haven't found your channel earlier, great stuff.
Another great vid - LOL at the extreme filtering - you'll be manning up and going around keep lefts the wrong way next - you know it makes sense.
Hashed area had a broken line meaning you can enter if safe to do so. That 'safe to do so' is of course subjective, but unless you cause others to change their course then I can't see you being pulled up, unless your doing it all the time and your general riding is showing non consideration for others.

I can't be mistaken. That is a underbone/moped at 04:53 kind of bike I ride, mine's is a two stroke 125.
We have 2 sets of lights like that near me. The council's reasoning is that if they stop people at the light it stops the intersection getting clogged. Christmas lights by marmite, love it or hate it, pmsl, what a classic.
i think i have just found my new favorite moto vlogger
7:22 Where is this lambo? It's like playing where's Wally
I found it! It's driving in front of the taxi in the right lane. At 7:25 you can see it braking at the crosswalk :)
Lockguard You sir could be a where's Wally Champion!
cool to learn that you use earplugs. i do too, at least on long rides or anything over 70 mph.
Love how you said "wing mirror" (I do too) given cars haven't had wing mirrors for decades, and you are on a bike, which have never had wings 😄
I have seen those planning maps in London, they say we are gonna make this section a pain in the rear so BVG can Grumble some more about this here.

Why do people do this sideways nod, like tilt their whole head right.
Is it to just keep looking where your going and still nodding?
+Boris theBlade It's to give a positive visual indication that you acknowledge another road user which maintains eye contact and doesn't make it appear that you're just checking to ensure that your tank is still there. It also maintains eye contact, if you could see the eyes... Plus it's quick and easy to do.
Its just a biker thing to say hello.
Dunno why you've been given a whole paragraph to explain that lol.
I just nod!
When are you uploading a new video? I love your work!
the nick name "comparethemarket" springs to mind when listening to your voice lol
What a rush watching you filter...some super tight spots! And I wear earplugs, too, for so many reasons.
nice video yet again :P the extreme filtering was pretty good, I probably wouldn't have thought of it!
It's funny seeing roads that I've ridden down on your videos, you never know I might even end up riding past you like Danny did.
We have those "On The Run" stations here in the US too.
These videos are fantastic, even if you think this lacks in quality, its fucking fantastic. I think you should put out more content, personally.
Finally, a mystery solved! I've been wondering about that for quite a while now but always thought it was a stupid question to ask.
In America they have a flashing yellow saying if no one is coming you can go....now that's on left turns which would be the equivalent of the British right turn
Nice job getting through town mate.
Gotta do what ya gotta do.
Having an Ambulance running blocker is win btw and yea, SOooooo tempting ;-)
I thank you for that 5 extra minutes because your video always make me laugh, and it also show me there are idiots all over the world driving cars.
Also.. every time I listen to your rants.. you remind me about SVEN. :-( RIP man..
@Hayley1993UK I've heard that action cameras work very well on Class 10 cards
Listen Baron. You're big on change. Contact the traffic planning board and make a formal complaint using your video as proof for making that right turn at the intersection. You even have it timed!

thats a very intresting new view from the drift on you wing mirror

I was expecting to hate this, I always worry about bikes scratching my new car and winced at some parts. It was just so funny though! :P
Wow that really was some tight filtering! if i could filter like that id be happy

I don't even ride a bike, but I love watching his videos...funny guy...funny guy!
wow there are some really amazing supercars just driving around.
love the filtering
That's the best baby impression i've heard in a long time!
I have a r125 66 plate, feel free to come to wales & have a go 😀

Liking the mirror cam. 👌
i must say. your city looks quite amazing. we have some nice buildings in melb, aus. but nothing like this.
why does the ambulance drive so slow?
when i was in england this summer, i saw an ambulance waiting for a green light with their sirens on, like wtf?
i feel like I know London after watching your videos. the area looks so familiar after watching your channel lol
Baron Seriously has a really good radio voice for adverts and shit
Try sitting at those sodding lights on a moped that dies when the revs drop below 2000 RPM, constantly revving it like an excited chav!
Videos like this make me miss London. Actually I miss British breakfast right now. LOL Some beans, blood sausage, and eggs...
I swear, I run into you guys fuckin' everywhere nowadays. It's sorta awesome
Barron I'm sure if your turning right you can wait inside the yellow box. Yeh yeh I know it's not applicable in this case but I just thought I better point it out. Merry Christmas Barron & family.
i don't know, i mean, i just feel its easier to control a bike at low speeds sitting straight up, (for mod 1 ect)
Love your videos man you never fail to make me laugh thankyou :) and ride safe :)
when you said it's a gold nissan micra, i cringed and i felt shivers down my spine
Awesome video! Wish my filtering skills were like yours, I'd be to scared of scratching mine lol. Keep up the good work!
Have they sorted that traffic light 🚦 yet?
Your baby impression has me wheezing 😂😂😂😂👊
