Easily one of my favorite BVG/44 teeth videos already. Ive been working on my 998 for years now, so I know enough to follow Rich's comments. I also know enough to recognize that he is a real Ducati mechanic and i am a hack. The engine start up was excellent. The startup after a major repair is a great feeling. I cant wait for the first ride Chris. Im sure you will enjoy it.
Love this series on the 916 . 90s bikes have so much more character than the boring modern bikes which ride themselves. We should all go back to riding them instead. Great series thanks

It's funny you say that I was just thinking the same that people should stop buying new bikes out of protest to tec, I vave a few. Ikes and want to sell half and been thinking of selling my new bikes and keeping g the older ones with very little and no tec, I'm have come to realise the tec gets in the way of enjoying the bike and if your a good rider you don't need it and the way I like to ride is wheelies and rolling burnouts ect😮

Had a Datatool 50 on a bike for 31years, no false alarms even in heavy wind, stopped it being stolen twice before it was garaged, still works fine, great piece of kit...

It says Cusworth Bikes on the plate, which immediately perked my interest even more. This dealer was based in Doncaster and flattened in 2008/09, being replaced by a furniture store and later a car park to aid the nearby job center and disability centre. I'd say take the bike to its origins and park it where it once stood on the showroom, but knowing the area it might get stolen.
Got nothing but good things to say about Rich and Lougi Moto! Absolutely lovely bloke who really takes his time and does a proper, thorough job, is happy to help if you need it and has completely earned his outstanding reputation! What this man doesn't know about Ducati's isn't worth knowing.

Another amazing shop video! All of your shop vids are personal fav's. I can't wait to see James at JHS's reaction to this bike, and what he can do with the suspension/chassis to make it perfect. I believe he said he had built a few of these bikes back in the day. You're lucky to have shops like these guys and JHS in the UK. We don't have many in Canada, and the ones we do have, that are fair, knowledgeable and do amazing work, and usually British Expats.
Fascinated by this, I’m picking up my first Ducati next week, a Supersport 950S which has similar performance stats to the 916 which when it came out and I saw as the pinnacle of superbikeness, utterly gorgeous and esoteric, it’s taken until I’m 65 to buy into the Ducati mystique but better late than never. Following the restoration with great interest.
I haven't lived in the West Country (or the UK) in 30 years so it was nice to hear a good West Country accent again. Also, it's always a treat to listen to someone who knows their subject inside and out and is still clearly passionate about it. Great video, thanks.

Amazing video, it is a pleasure to watch this very interesting, entertaining and educational video about your 916 SPS. I rode a few Ducati's the past years, started in 1995 on a 900SS than a 748 - 748 SPS - Monster S4 - Monster S4Rs and actually driving a Multistrada 1200S. When I look at the video, I get a bit nostalgic and remember the days that I drove the 748's. How knows, maybe I'll find such a barn find as you. Enjoy your ride, take care and be cautious when you're on the road.
Hey up a 916 is so beautifully styled so don't get the Claudia part as her legs are a bit stumpy, I do get what you mean tho and do have a preference for the 888

Do not flip her, they won't get better than that one I'm afraid, plus that lovely Gentleman praising every nook and cranny he was peeking into during biopsy - she's a keeper. And she doesn't even sound like triangle-shaped bearings in idle speed. Massaged back into life. An enviable piece of machinery You found Yourself there.
Not that I'd ever own a bike like that, but it's quite nice to gather all the knowledge available especially when you live for 2 wheels. Thanks men, cheers!
Not sure where I heard this but, I became aware of a cold start-up technique that makes sense for all these early bikes. This is what I do to avoid premature wear in any of the valve train parts. First off use a good synthetic oil as it seems to cling to parts way longer than dino oil. THEN....when starting a cold bike, you start the engine with the lowest revs possible, just a slow idle. Don't rev it up at this point. THEN let the bike idle for at least 90 seconds to let the oil flow up into those valve/cam/rocker arm parts. I've used this starting method on my 916 ST4 for almost 30k miles. I've done my own valve checks and finally an adjustment at 25k miles when one of the valves was getting close to out of adjustment, but was still within specs. The chrome on my rocker arms was near perfect. Cam lobes excellent.

I'm probably gona buy a Kawa ZX-4rr because of this reason. I want fun but also midern reliability. Modern 1000cc bikes are just too strong

I’ve always loved the 916 bikes. Nothing else like them. They’re the Claudia Schaffer of motorcycles where the 851/888 are the Mike Tyson.

Every time my ‘97 916 actually managed to start up I nearly cried with joy. This took me right back.
