I think it's silly that Blackstar decided to go with a name so close to Bluguitar. But I don't think the product itself is a ripoff of the Bluguitar. They have plenty of differences and use cases. While I don't think the name will fool people as to which product is which, I think Blackstar could've avoided the controversy easily.

We're getting spoiled for choice these days.
Hardest part is deciding what works best/most suits any given rig.
This looks like a great 'carry on' option to me, so what is the direct competition?
and then of course what is best to pair with it, for effects.
Love how quickly you're getting your head around the products in these demos.

I was going to say that this is the first thing I've seen you demo that seems beyond having a decent tone coaxed out of it...until you started using the Synergy stuff. That made the difference, to say the least.

Definitely interested in trying this with a pedal based tube pre-amp. I have a Kingsley Maiden and I would love to match it up with a british type pre-amp like the new Friedman IR-X. That Bogner pre-amp sounded ridiculous.

So far, I have not heard anyone demo what the Amped 1 does when saturating the power amp tube emulation. Only different responses and what seems like eq changes. We all know older amps (NMV) always got a good portion of their gain from driving the power tubes. How does the Amped 1 respond to really turning up the master and driving the emulated tube section? This was my biggest reason for getting reactive load attenuators. I had JMP, SLP, Bassman, Mark IV preamps and they were missing something in a big way until I actually got reactive load attenuators and started reamping so I could actually drive power tubes to higher saturation levels, then controlling volume with reamping. It was then those preamps came alive. Having a Fryette PS2 then prompted me to buy a 50 watt Plexi. The Plexi to me sounds the best turning up the volumes to get good amounts of gain - everything on 10 is basically Van Halen 1 sounds. Can the Amped 1 do that sort of levels for power amp saturation, and does it sound any good driving the emulated tubes like that?

What a great amp / direct and recording solution for a pedal board. I believe these amps are the future. Go direct and use in ears. No stage volume issues, great in ear mix , no heavy cabs or combo amps to drag around, although I like a cab to interact with for feedback.
Great review sir. When. you were using the software with the hardware it sounded killer. That strat helps because those pickups kill it.
That freeze thing would be great to solo over for fun.. 😂

I did unintentional guitar face like nine times during the first half of this video. It really sounded awesome the less you did to it. The more fiddling actually degraded the tone IMO. great playing man. I am torn between this and getting an amped 3. I pretty much ran my tube amp now on high headroom setting with pedals with more gain than I can stand so more gain isn't issue the reverb will never be used as I have space cadet reverb pedal that I love , but I do like the idea of having multiple presets like amped 3 has . Somehow the 1 seems to just sound better in most demos IDK.

Is there a way to use only the preamp section of the Amped 1 and disable the poweramp simulation completely? For example if I just want to use this as a clean platform for a distortion pedal but then do poweramp and cab simulation on something like the Two Notes CAB M ?

You can do two things1) Use your preamp, enter into Amped1 set to Flat, or set the Amped1 to US voice and then use whatever pedal/preamp in front of it. It is muche better than Torpedo CAB M

Blackstar seemed to me to be an innovative company and I was planning to buy an Tube amplifier from them. With the Amped 1, Blackstar has not only been inspired by Thomas Blug, but has obviously copied some things. When you open the devices, this becomes very clear. That really shocked me. Inspiration is a good thing. But if Blackstar needs to copy like that, it's a shame. Nevertheless, the sound of the Amp1 from Bluguitar surpasses that of the Blackstar. Although the Amped1 sounds good too.

This is a pretty exciting piece, but after watching the demo... my concern is, what's the latency? Modelers have speaker/power amp simulation built in, why would I run out of a Fractal and into this, to incur another round of conversion? This looks like a great fit with an analog board though.

I would love to see Mesa Boogie do a non-powered version similar to this to use on a pedal board or desktop. Just a straight 3 channel preamp with cab IR's, an effect loop, USB connect and interface and at least 2 xlr direct outs. I would use it with an HX Effects and a few pedals on a pedal board for fly rig. Going into the PA and a FRFR cab. I enjoy the FM3 I have and like the other modelers that are out there, but I don't use all the different amps and have no desire to. I like to create my own tones around the Mesa's and have no interest in the rest much at all. A good clean, a rhythm channel and a lead is all I need. The rest is done by my hands, and volume control, changing my snapshots on the HX Effects. That would be fantastic. I love my Mesa Boogie Mark V, but who wants to haul an amp and cabs anymore? Not me.

As far as a pedalboard-based rig goes, it will be interesting to see how good the Two Notes Revolt is once it comes out.

    • @hansgrayman4809
      @hansgrayman4809 2 года назад

@@sethers18 It's an interesting product. I've seen the NAMM footage. But it's not a modern take on the TriAxis in a floor unit like we're talking above. The Two Note copies other amps instead of making a unique sound of it's own like many of the great tube amps out there that we buy specifically for there unique tones. I would not only love to see Mesa make an floor/pedal amp unit like this, but Soldano, Revv, Marshall, Bogner, Friedman, etc, etc... But I want the Mesa for myself.
After all, there are lots of modelers on the market these days for those players who use a lot of different amp tones and switch between their presets and snapshots using them for the songs they play. These would be for players who basically still loves to play out of one unique amp, but in a pedal board rig with built in IR's, going into the PA and/or an FRFR with whatever effects they like on their pedal board. A Mark IV in a pedal unit. Or an SLO, or a Plexi, etc... Non powered that you can also use direct for recording too.

While this looks like yet another nice take on the pedal board amplifier, it is insulting to me that Blackstar felt it necessary to steal the name, marketing (100 watt amp in a box), shape, chassis, and whatever else from another man's product. Would it have killed them to come up with an original name?
