Right! I picked up on several comments regarding this. "TV not allowed upstairs" "He doesnt talk when he eats" It's not always subtle, but he kind of throws it in there as an after thought. This is something killers do to their victims all the time. They try to demonize the victim. Whereas, most humans will feel some type of way speaking ill of the dead - especially soon after they're gone. (I know Bart isn't known to be dead at this time, but Chandler knows.)

Had to laugh when they walked into the room and asked him if he was all good he said no not really and detective said Good Good he was't listening to his reply he was on a mission.
He says his reason for sleeping downstairs was because he needed to be close to the bathroom as he couldn't see too well in the dark. So my suggestion would be to maybe turn the light on, so that it solved his seeing in the dark problem rather than sleeping on a makeshift bed of 2 chairs pushed together which I expect would be murder on a persons back, but more so on the back of a person who was claiming to have spinal damage like Chandler was. This lad is deluded, thank jeez he is locked up forever cus he just lives in a fantasy world, I expect he tells everyone in jail that he is really CIA working undercover as an inmate. Life without parole is better than death i think. Death has no suffering for them but life in a room, no decisions, no walks in the park or beach or sea, lots of time alone to have the events they took to fill their thoughts, hopefully they give them nightmares, sawing his parents body parts up is hopefully etched in his mind constantly. Worst about this is that his parents were amazing, kind, loving and I bet would have forgave him after a little telling off, but he never gave them that chance, he ambushed them & executed them. His warped mind thinking that was his best option when any sane person would have known otherwise but also could never kill family as loving as them.
It’s like throwing a rock in a river that goes out in a ripple effect that touches & hurts everyone forever… His poor brother the loss he’ll feel forever, he dodge that get well bullet!

I've seen many interrogations; when a person is innocent, they simply don't behave in this manner. He's just so guilty and it's horrifying to know what he really did; almost certain that the detectives were able to know this instantly. Rest in Peace, Bart & Krista; I'm sorry this happened to you both. You're never forgotten.
First of all, it was not an interrogation at this point he was not under arrest he could have walked out at any time. What you want to focus on is the gf interview. she shows signs of guilt from the start. She completely freaked out on the stand talking about the ride in the police car and interview and after the attorney said she threw up and cried when she got to the police station, and she admitted that..just shows more terror in being exposed to being involved in some of it. An innocent person would be eager to go to the police station and answer any and all questions in the hope to help. Not freak out and throw up. That doesn't add up. And they never told her about anything at that point, only kindly asking questions. But we weren't there and may never know. It's very suspicious that they aren't releasing her police interview. Try thinking before you post, better than showing your ignorance.
@Stephen Eurosailor This girl had been lied to the entire time she was with the defendant. Her behavior is not at all suspect when you consider the amount of pain and stress she felt as she realized everything that she thought wasn't as it seemed. As the questioning went on, this young woman was putting all the lies in order and realizing everything the defendant told her was nothing more than fantasy. I can't imagine how sick she felt as she came to this realization. Perhaps you should think before you post as well.
@@kam0406 Agreed. She loved his parents, and they treated her like a member of the family. The idea that he butchered them, and that she was alone with him at the house with their bodies in the basement would haunt anyone. She's going to be messed up for a long time. Anyway, there is zero evidence she had anything to do with the killings. Literally nothing points to her but misogyny and fantasy of some of the commenters here. Considering how much evidence the police ended up having, including the 24-hour video surveillance (and her cooperation), it makes it very unlikely she could have been a knowing accomplice without the police being aware of it. And if they were, it would be in the public record.
@@kam0406 I agree with you wholeheartedly. I never saw anything in Cat that made me think she was guilty. What I saw was a young woman who had just had her world turned upside down and she was filled with grief and horror. She had to be remembering all the times she had been alone with this monster and now she learns how he has butchered his own parents and she is also probably thinking of the recent night she spent with Chandler while the bodies of his dismembered parents were under the same roof. If that wouldn't cause someone to throw up I don't know what would. She also felt a lot of grief because, unlike Chandler who certainly seemed to hold his father at least, in contempt and never missed an opportunity to try to make Bart look bad, Cat actually liked the Haldersons and all of her comments about them were positive. And Cat's not the one who has been feeding Bart and Krista nothing but lies for the past year. I don't know where anyone would get the idea that Cat had ANYTHING to do with these horrible acts.

Is Chander trying to describe the smell and smoke of the "Green Egg" grill as a deflection of the smell that neighbors may have smelled (odd, weird, smokey) because Chandler was burning body parts? I realize Chandler is stating this grill smelled awful on Wednesday (presumably) however the neighbors wouldn't be so keen on remembering what day of the week that was.
Every time they show Chandler he looks like he's contemplating the choices he made that brought him to this moment. You killed your parents dude. && dismembered their bodies. For what? I bet he's wondering what really could've been worth all that.... The answer is Nothing by the way... Nothing is worth murdering the people who loved and cared for you your whole life.
The ultimate torture. Now he is in prison for the rest of his life and has to think about his decisions for rest of his life. It makes even me uncomfortable I couldn't imagine how he feels. Luckily I don't ever have to worry or wonder because I would never hurt another human being I would hurt myself first. And I definitely would never hurt my loving parents. Just tragic all around
34:00 That dude gets up and presses his ear against the wall, trying to hear what Kat is saying! He's aware there are cameras? This case was disturbing, but overwhelmingly clear who did it. Not a bright guy.
I first saw the interview on the Crime Circus channel (if you guys are into true crime, he's got some really great, interesting interrogations and interviews on there) and I found it a bit boring because I didn't know much about the back story. It's way more interesting now having watched the trial up to this point so far. I cannot imagine how this guy will get out of a guilty charge for 1st degree intentional homicide and get life in prison. Does Wisconsin have the death penalty? I mean chopping up your loving, supportive parents...that's up there with things that could get you the death penalty, no? I'm impressed with how composed and kind Detective Shunk was able to be here, knowing that not only are the parents both dead, but they've only found a torso at this point. He's sitting across from an absolute psychopath and he's just like "Oh, cool..." "What'd you have for dinner that night?" "Cool, nice!" Amazing composure... The only thing he's right about is that The Green Egg makes food taste pretty gross, except for traditionally smoky stuff.
Typical behavior of someone trying to "prove" they didn’t do something. They give totally irreverent & elaborate details… what temp the grill was set at, color of items (opposed to just tools… let me tell you the color & brand), type of coffee you drank, etc. Think about how you would give a detailed description of your day, even if asked "tell me exactly what you did today." - guilty people very often do this.
@@joy-115 … he’s a narcissistic psychopath who didn’t have a job… therefore wouldn’t be able to afford living out of home. Many stay at home who are well into there twenties and older these days … cheaper!
You can 100% hear the paranoia and fear in his voice asking “is something going on……that we need to know about?” I guarantee he is all but pooping himself in the moment he noticed cops posting up outside his house. I just don’t understand what made him feel like he could commit this crime and not get caught. I’m sure in his mind he thought he cleaned up the evidence well but boy oh boy was he wrong. Every testimony/new evidence we hear is more damning than the previous and it just keeps coming. This is my 2nd time watching this trial (I know I’m weird). His defense was HORRIBLE. Really thinking about it what even is his defense here? They give no reason, no idea, no clue as to why he did this. They basically just said in opening statements that “He didn’t murder his parents”. I figured at what lengths he went to to fool his parents he would have at least come up with something. It kinda surprises me that he didn’t plead guilty just to keep all his lies from unraveling to everyone he knew. I know some details would have been rumored but going through a trial puts his entire life and all the lies under a gigantic microscope. Every little detail came out revealing what a POS he really was behind the façade he created. Kinda shocking he would let it all out that way.
You're not weird I have watched it several times too!! The opening statement alone is beautiful haha. Anyways... He could have just put as much effort into a real life as a fake one and been fine. I never understood people who lie because they don't wanna get in trouble instead of just letting it go, admitting it, they make themselves an even bigger evil lie to have to deal with. This thought process is fascinating and horrifying to me.
Chandler seemed to think that this detective was his friend; I find the way he is speaking to the detective, questioning him over and over about the police presence as disrespectful. His parents were "missing" and it seems that he feels threatened by the police presence around his house... that is a classic "Tell me you're guilty, without telling me you're guilty." If he had nothing to do with his parents being "missing"; normally people would go outside and talk to the officers.
Exactly. 💯 And he calls to say he’s hearing that everyone’s talking to his brother and not him. If you weren’t guilty & paranoid that they’re on to you, you wouldn’t care WHO they were talking to as long as they were working on finding your parents.
I think it's telling how he is already trying to sound like the victim. Like he was ready to throw out that card. I mean he lied to the cops, his parents, his girlfriend, everyone but how dare anyone lie to him right?
That bit about his dad's phone dying and him texting his ma to call or text his phone instead, That gave me chills knowing that was what happened the day he murdered them 😭😭. The way he goes on about the grilling when he incinerated his parents remains on the fireplace?!

You know, whenever I watch trials (even after the fact and knowing the verdict), I try to go in with a truly open mind. No matter what I may have heard or what my inclination is, I try to be open to having the defense convince me of the defendant’s innocence, or seeing holes in the prosecution’s case. I’m having a really hard time doing that in this case. The prosecution hasn’t even put on the most damning evidence, and yet I genuinely cannot see any other explanation than the one put forth. The defense has not objected at times where I feel they should. It’s strange that they ask to approach at nearly every objection. I wonder if they’re hoping to have his conviction overturned on the basis of incompetent defense. As I sit here, I wonder why he didn’t try to plea out. I can’t see how he thought he’d be acquitted. I wonder if he’s hoping the conviction will be overturned and he’ll be in a better position to negotiate for a plea deal so the state doesn’t have to try him again.
@@LucyCatMomma if not *reasonable* doubt, at least I can usually understand the defense that will be made. Given comments he’s made in court, I’ve come to think that he has convinced himself he’s, if not innocent, not really to blame.
I read somewhere else that the minimum sentence for murder in his state is life in prison. So any plea would still be life in prison. So he had nothing to lose if he went to trial and lost but a lot to gain if he could get off on a technicality or something hence the trial.
@@nyangweso that’s sort of accurate in that the mandatory minimum at conviction is life without parole. But plea deals give leeway. There have been other pleas that allow for parole after a certain number of years (usually 30). Halderson was 23. Even if they’d offered him 30 per murder, he’d have had a chance of release assuming he lived long enough. Now he has no chance unless he gets his conviction overturned. Given how useless his attorneys actually were, I suspect their intent was to have it overturned on grounds of ineffective counsel, which would give him another chance to try for a plea. If it was the prosecutor unwilling to offer one (possible given the surety of his conviction), they might be inclined to if the other choice is to spend the money on another trial.
he put about as much thought into this crime as he did into his education and his career goals. had he put half the effort in to murdering his parents as he did into deceiving them about school and his fake job, he might have gotten away with it.
It's amazing how difficult it seems to be for these supposedly well-educated professional people to follow simple instructions. Detective Allen was told to "look at all these pictures and DESCRIBE THEM AS A GROUP" and she proceeds to describe each picture individually. She is certainly not the only one who did this because I noticed many witnesses in this trial were given the same instructions and did exactly what she did. I remember taking a test once and Number 1 said, "Read ALL questions before you answer any of them" and then Number 2 said, "Put your name in the right-hand corner". Number 3 said, "Circle the 5 in the Number 15". Number 4 said "Make a small fold to the bottom left-hand corner of this paper". Number 5 said, "Underline the word "Circle in Number 3" and it went on and on like that and you could see people busily folding and underscoring and circling and then they came to the very last question and Number 20 said, "Ignore all of the instructions on Numbers 3 thru 19 and follow the instructions ONLY on Number 1, Number 2 and Number 20." so basically all we were supposed to do was read all the questions and put our name on the paper and that was all. All the other instructions were canceled by the instructions on Number 20. I have no doubt that taking that test made me more aware of how much a lot of people cannot follow the most basic directions.
When he says "is everything alright?" He meant is everything alright for HIM. He wasn't concerned for his parents. Oh no. Just about himself. Almost seemed like he wanted to ask "am I busted?"
Do any of you think that the girlfriend, brother and other friends now know what he did at this point? When a few of them took the stand they kind of acted a little clueless of the amount of damage this guy has done to his parents.
I think those closest were trying to keep from envisioning what the monster did to these lovely people and remember them as they were. They obviously were cooperating to have the monster convicted to the full extent of the law.
They are supposed to testify how they felt & what they thought during that time, prior to finding out. Of course they know everything now... And @BonneMoms, some are allowed there the entire time. This is something killers do to their victims all the time. They try to demonize the victim. Whereas, most humans will feel some type of way speaking ill of the dead - especially soon after they're gone. (I know Bart isn't known to be dead at this time, but Chandler knows.)

That's exactly what I thought

If you watch Chandlers expression very closely during his police interrogation you'll see him very distressed at times. Sometimes even monstrous
He didn't even try to prove his "innocence". All he did was say not guilty. He's super delusional and he really does believe his own lies.
Man, this kid can just pull non-existent details out of his brain, compulsive liar.

I've watched the whole trial many times as well 🤣🙈
Here I am a year later watching again 😢
And then he was cold and rude to the other one which was strange
@@ErinJeanette Good cop bad cop in his own mind. (Edited for spelling error)

I agree 100%. I can usually always find reasonable doubt, but not here.
@@LucyCatMomma if not *reasonable* doubt, at least I can usually understand the defense that will be made. Given comments he’s made in court, I’ve come to think that he has convinced himself he’s, if not innocent, not really to blame.
@@LucyCatMommaagree. Once the skull was identified in the fire place I’m thinking how will he explain THAT away?

What went wrong in this guys life. He had good parents , a nice brother , a great girlfriend. All he needed to do was get on track with a career. Was he so lazy that it was easier to kill his parents than get a job ? Did he do it thinking he would get insurance money ?
It’s excruciating listening to him.
He is such a boring guy with a monotonus voice so unattractive no wonder he has not job

This is has got to be the most crazy interview I've ever watched. Dogs, green eggs, minute piece of glass in his toe, a trip on the stairs that will lead to needing a colostomy bag.The lost of drivel goes on and on. It's madness to listen to it all ....and yet I'm still reading! The stupidity and arrogance of this hateful pos in thinking he's clever enough to get away with theses atrocious crimes is beyond belief. How did those nvestigators manage to sit through it all?

“I’d like to move exhibit 116 into evidence!” 😀
“No objection!” 😀
“It is received!” 😀
“And published!” 😀
The reason why the glass at the fireplace shattered was due to heat accumulation from roasting his parents heads.
Thanks, I couldn't figure that one out. Fireplace glass is tough.
Oh my!
Absolutely crazy but true
Yikes!
😳
This defence team is really annoying, all they do is ask the witnesses " did you ever go there before that date ?"
They want the jury to think that whoever they are cross-examining framed Chandler 😂🤔😡
Highly ineffective 😵💫
What a beast this guy is. Worst of the worst
