  • Live Coverage: WI v. Chandler Halderson - Dismembered Parents Trial
    Happening in Court:
Steven Greiber - Ret Detective-Dane Co. DA's Ofc
Colin Lynch - Halderson Family Neighbor
Dep. Scott Kuntz - Dane County Sheriff's Office
    CHARGES:
    Victim Bart Halderson:
    COUNT 1: First-degree Intentional Homicide
COUNT 2: False Info on Kidnapped or Missing Persons
    COUNT 3: Mutilating a corpse
    COUNT 4: Hiding a Corpse
    Victim Krista Halderson:
    COUNT 5: First-degree Intentional Homicide
COUNT 6: False Info on Kidnapped or Missing Persons
    COUNT 7: Mutilating a corpse
    COUNT 8: Hiding a Corpse
A Wisconsin man stands trial for allegedly murdering and dismembering his parents without remorse, and providing false information on their disappearances. Chandler Michael Halderson, 23, faces charges including first-degree intentional homicide. Remains from his father Bart Halderson, 50, and mother Krista Halderson, 53, were found days apart, authorities said.
Defendant Halderson reported his parents missing July 7th, claiming they left their home in the Village of Windsor days before on the 1st. He told WISC-TV at the time that they were going to the village of White Lake, Wisconsin.
“My last message I got from them, they were going to White Lake for the Fourth of July,” he told “There are some festivities that go around there. Better drink prices at the bars. Stuff like that.”
He said that to his knowledge, they were then going to their cabin in Langlade County.
“Along the way, they could’ve stopped many places,” he said. “I wouldn’t know all of them.”
He was allegedly just feeding everyone lies.
Bart’s torso was found in rural Dane County, while remains from Krista were found in Sauk County and property run by the Department of Natural Resources, according to court documents obtained by The Wisconsin State Journal.
Their son had been searching Google for terms like “Body found Wisconsin,” “Woman’s body found in Wisconsin,” “Wisconsin dismembered body found,” and “Dead body found in Wisconsin,” authorities said. Investigators suggested Chandler Halderson used to a visit to property belonging to the partner of his girlfriend’s mother as cover to hide his father’s torso nearby. He had shot Bart Halderson at least once before dismembering him, officials said.
According to investigators, Halderson said after his arrest that “you don’t know the whole story,” and that he “didn’t feel bad about what I did.”

@@pyresflood obviously, but some experts can be the best in their fields and bore you to sleep when they explain the technical side of how they came to their scientific conclusion to prove the evidence. It’s impressive that a lot of these experts are well spoken and even engaging while talking about pixels and stuff that is pretty boring. This expert talked the jury through in my opinion a pretty boring forensic video (science) experiment and I was not bored /did not lose attention for a second of it. It’s just an added bonus to the prosecutions case that the experts are great in the witness box and come across well seasoned and are great at testifying.
That’s all I meant by what I said before. Of course if all comes down to the evidence, but if the evidence is presented in a boring manner the jury won’t listen and will snooze through it

They may even have been told by him that he did it but at no time can they ever tell anyone that even after the case is closed years and whether he is found guilty or innocent. Obviously he did it and was found guilty but they can’t refuse to defend him.

The prosecution needs to pull out all the stops they have. Anything that looks odd they want and need to point out. You can only have a single trial, so they need to prove absolutely without any reasonable doubt that the defendant did what he was charged with. The prosecution has the witness explain so thoroughly to not only show the witness’s expertise, but to also make absolutely sure the charges stick. Remember, Chandler was not only accused of murder, but several other counts including mistreatment of a corpse and dismemberment. Burning their bodies constitutes that mistreatment. They need to make sure they can prove that and show the jury exactly how they’re doing that through a witness that has the credibility to do so. The prosecution wants to see chandler face each and every charge, for his parents’ sake.

Of course it matters. It’s circumstantial evidence that they can triangulate with other things that Chandler was burning the bodies!

Also, if the verdict is appealed, no new evidence or witnesses can be introduced. So they want to make sure every single shred of evidence and testimony is detailed in this trial so it will also be able to be used in refuting any appeal.

I'll never understand why you're supposed to stand when a judge enters the room. They're all corrupt, just like the prosecutors. It just makes no sense to me. I'm not talking about this case in particular, just in general.

When you say they are all corrupt, you are saying this judge and prosecutors are corrupt. I don't think you know that because you couldn't possibly know each one. If they didn't exist, this monster would be roaming the streets in Wisconsin, I'm sure the citizens of the state are thankful for them.
