      Frank Carpi yeah! I’m pretty sure he holds a double bass speed record. It’s like 13,222 notes on the bass drums in 15 minutes or something! Super impressive!

      100% agree. Not just based on his incredible talent either but also for his enthusiasm for music in general and teaching as well. He’s a true master. He also strikes me as a genuinely kind and warm hearted human being. I really believe that about him.

I have been playing guitar since the 90's and heard a lot of best drummers out there, this man right here is very unique and is far beyond any other drummer I have heard with regards to precision. I love the sound! Keep it coming Mr. Mangini, Hopefully youll come here again in the Philippines with Dream Theater!

    Mike, you're so on time and so precise that is both inspiring and weird to the ear at the same time.
    I have the clue that's because of your approach to drumming. Given my limited experience with your teachings (I haven't gotten the books but I will) and with drumming I believe is because of how you apply engineering and science to drums, which is unique. I'm an engineer myself so I kind of understand where you're coming from.
    As I listener before I was a drummer I remember my favorite version of Steve Vai's For the Love of God is the one on G3 first edition and years later I found you were there. And that is btw, my favorite version of my favorite song.
    Because of that I refuse to believe that is all analysis and science with the approach you have to drumming and I humbly ask that you please post either a reference or a sample to/of a piece of music that's simple and that lies on the other side of the musical spectrum - WITH A LOT FEELING - that you've played on.
    Thanks in advance and thank you again for supporting Benny Greb on this new DVD.
    Best of luck on tour and thanks for Egg Zooming! You blew my mind there.

    So can I make a request?. Since I personally want to meet you and learn some of techniques is it possible that you could come out to Ontario Canada to play at one of the Long & McQuaide stores? specifically the store in Mississauga

    Instead of people bashing on how someone is playing, why not give praise for their specific style and talent? Most of you dumbasses that negatively comment probably can't hold a stick compared to how Mangini plays. If you can, back it up by uploading your own video and see what people have to say about you and your style. There are many great drummers out there, Mangini being one of them for his style and talent along with many others. So broaden your mind and see things in a different way and stop being negative because it's not something that you like to hear or isn't your preferred style.

      Although I can't really stand mangini (facial expressions, voice etc) his drumming is very complex. It sounds easy but it truly is pretty complicated, it's oddly impressive to me, he doesn't just bash the drums he has finesse and mixes speed with it, phenomenal, just phenomenal.

      @jaydoode15 10 лет назад

      probably a video policy for the seminar, but when Dennis Chambers came up afterwards he didn't even mention it, just played, no tension, just pure awesomness.

    • @nixneato
      @nixneato 10 лет назад

      jaydoode15 Thanks for the answer. It still doesn't make much sense to me, if it was a video policy then the organizer (not the artist) should be the one telling the audience. Anyway, I'll never be a fan of anything about this guy.

    • @jaydoode15
      @jaydoode15 10 лет назад

      The organizer of the event said on behalf of Mike personally not to film his playing, never said anything about filming the other drummers, then Mike Mangini reiterated himself not to film his playing. It sort of ruined it for me, even though I understood what he was saying. Not a fan of Mike? He's good but his solo stuff can become a little boring after awhile.

    • @nixneato
      @nixneato 10 лет назад

      jaydoode15 It's kinda lame... I mean, at least give a reason, but don't be snappish to people who just want to keep a memory of an event they moved their asses to, and maybe paid for (but anyway who are doing you the favor of not playing to an empty room).
      Nope, not a fan. He sure is one-of-a-kind with math, but his playing is balanced wrong, you don't get that consistent volume other drummers have, which isn't helped by his ridiculous drum setup - a true nightmare to mic, which also forces him to incorporate different fingerings within the same fills, again losing volume consistency. All good in theory, not coming across in practice. His fills at the beginning here are a good example.
      And yes he can play fast as hell, but then it's all ghost notes. His fills sound terrible live, you basically hear a few accents and the rest is drowned out. And that's not what prog metal à la DT needs.
      But worst of all he has no taste for the type of music DT does (imho, obviously), he just doesn't get it, and he is sloppy with many things (for one, he apparently can't press a hi-hat pedal correctly and get a clean tight sound. A catastrophy in many MP grooves such as 6:00)
      But hey, that's just me, I wish I was a fan and I don't mean to hate for no reason. But I can't lie either; in the end it's all about how a musician makes you feel, and he doesn't make me feel good. He would be good playing Led Zeppelin stuff (he did a Kashmir cover I thought he was perfect in).
