The part about man taking everything from the planet and giving nothing back, is so prescient. Amazing song, astounding insight.
Think about how long ago this song was written, and sung for the first time.
And things have only gotten worse since then. We are fast approaching the future that this song is about. And all because they masses won't wake up, and get rid of the criminals running our world.
I agree with the lot...this ve3rsion was a wonderful update. I loved the fellow's voice and the video compilation...but still I grieve for the loss of the original singer. the '60's are simply dying away...soon, I will follow!

Oddly I just turned 69 about 2 minutes ago. The mind still feels young. Too bad the body rebels.
Anyway we had no true concept that things that were written in this brillant song might start coming true. A hell of a lot earlier than 2525 too.

In the year 1969 I was 9 standing on the front seat of our Chevelle while my mom drove listening to this on the radio singing along together.
It was '74 before we had a car with an AM radio. The Night Chicago Died played over again on the road trip our family took, at the time.
I remember in the '70s when Video Killed the Radio Star came out (I laid in bed recovering from a back injury for a month). It's come to pass. Songs can often be prophetic.

I haven't heard this song in 50 years. It reminds me of Berkeley in the 60's and 70's. This song was very thought provoking at a very young age for me. The commercial about pollution with the famous Indian in his canoe as well.
I listen to Zegar and Evans virtion regularly, as i walk my German Shepherd and Malinois dog's through the countryside of N/E Derbyshire , England. Its a song that i remember as a kid in the kate 60s / early 70s when my sister who was 5 yrs older than me would have been sewing & adapting her jeans into bell bottoms. I swear this dong has became so relevant. Its just a case of what colour pill you take !🤔👍🏴

@@ZombasticRex How would you say it's not a cover? They didn't change any of the lyrics, just he key it's set in and the instrumentation/speed. Most covers put their own spin on the song without changing the lyrics or overall meaning of the song.
I remember when this song came out back in the 60`s. It always freaked us all out.
When Zagar and Evans came out with this song in 1969 I was in high school. Most of my classmates thought it was either a "fun" song or "garbage". I didn't. I understood it back then. I got what it MEANT. This video right here had my mouth hanging open! I thought to myself "somebody really has gotten it!" Wonderful video although incredibly scary at the same time. I'm so grateful that I grew up in the generation I did. Thanks again for a fantastic upload! A true masterpiece!
I was 14 when this came out, I recall singing and dancing to it, I thought the lyrics were real and possible, I loved the song, a lot , it use to play on my transistor radio, But at 66 I now I certainly do understand it its message far clearer and differently, 2001 movie also came out then !

(I grew up hearing this on AM radio in the morning getting ready for school. We were lucky enough to live down the street from a radio tower and get a strong, clear signal.)

Excellent choice of music and video theme - both underrated, for different reasons, and both prophetic, in the worst possible sense. I don't think that, in 1964, when Evans wrote it, he imagined how dystopian the world would really become, in 2525...
I'm saddened for you. Yes, they knew - how do you think the lyrics after that happened? However, this is not as dystopic noir as you imagine. This wonderful piece of art exists now, when it could never have existed then. Buck up honey, get yer vaccination, wear a mask if you're symptomatic so as to be polite to others. We're doing much better than we did in the 1918/19 Spanish Flu epidemic and certainly much better than plague eras. It's not as bad as you make out. Cheer up and soldier on.

When I heard this song as a kid, I couldn't understand what it was supposed to be about and hated it with a vengeance. But listening to it whilst watching all these different movie clips, I've a new appreciation for it.
Way back when there were 3 songs that were getting a lot of air play. For the younger ones out there, air play was the song being played on AM radio. Dylan's Lay Lady Lay, Dock of the Bay by Otis Redding, and this one by Zager & Evans. That was late 69 just before our squadron deployed to West Pac for line duty off the coast of Vietnam. Funny how some things stick in the mind.

I came across this video several days ago and I can't get it out of my head! I really dig this version of a great song from my childhood. And one of the best fan made videos I've seen. Well done. The thing that gets me about this song they got a lot right. Like in the year 1979 when they had the first test too baby.
