Same thing happened to me while I was skiing some crappy snow, there was a drop leading straight to a jump and as I landed the drop my skis sank into the snow and tossed me into a frontflip on boots.
Had that happen on Peak 6 at Breck below the catwalk down the gully side. They had blown the cornice earlier and vis had gone to nil. Normally the big cornice chunks stay above the catwalk but a 3x3 or so rolled down and ski patrol apparently couldn’t see it to mark it. I found it the hard way:) Both skis stuck in it and I somersaulted!
