Back in the late 70s early 80s I often saw Lily at the Vauxhall Tavern and the Black Cap. She would talk with me and not a 'friend' but a really good mate. Thank you Lily/Paul for everything. RIP
Well Paul/lily you have done it again I've been laughing and crying over the last few days thank you for your talent and humour that shared with the world I will be thanking you forever rest well queen lily savage the world is going to be a very dull place without you ❤️🌹❤️🌹
Absolutely a gift this I've needed this so badly, Paul O'Grady was just something else we were truly blessed the day he was born 💙. RIEP Paul O'Grady sleep tight with the angels God's Blessings and Grace 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🕊🦋
It's about time we told funny people they are before, they leave us for the big stage in the sky. Lily/Paul. You are a very funny act. Please bring her back
That audience were a Comedian’s worst nightmare, weren’t they? Can you imagine if Freddie Starr had have been on that stage?……. He’d have been chucking water over ‘em all, lol 😂
True artist standing in his own having the whole place laughing not many people can do that obviously stand ups can but they’re a rare breed if they’re actually funny at all
lily savage queen of drag queens bring her back love her so much and should be proud and brilliant why don't BBC or ITV bring lily back got to better than the shit on TV on a Saturday night
hahahahaha they've had loads of gays working in the cabin on Coronation St now this is like 24 years old WOW! bless Paul, love him so much, think Lily needs a last shout x
1997....My local was 95p a pint of cider.... as a 16 year old at the time, it gave great value for my pocket money! Arseholed on a Sunday... missing from school o a Monday.... Marvellous!
I seem to remember they weren’t primed for what kind of act it was and they weren’t Lily’s normal audience. Paul talks about it in one of his autobiographies.
Look up Billy Connolly on Parkinson with Barbara Woodhouse and Angie Dickinson he got much the same reaction the first time he was in the States Angie asked him how he got on In America he said he was as welcome as a fart in a spacesuit
My God was there an audience present?? Not exactly responsive ! Probably not the most memorable performance from our wonderful Paul. He was an absolute genius and a fabulous person and performer. Taken far, far too soon.❤
They didn’t - was just when they did the new ones in 1990 and shrank them a bit vs the previous ones from the 70s. Same time as the 5p coin went from size of the current 10p to the size it now is, which she mentions too. 10p coins were more like a current 50p in size (but round) and quite thick - they got shrunk about 1992-3 I think. 50p got shrunk a bit later - they all used to be so heavy. I think the 20p is the only silver coin the same size as when it came in - which wasn’t until the 80s - it came in about the time the half-pence went. Seems like an eternity ago now.
@@maddy605 Yeah, you do see it was made two years ago? It's also a reference to the fact that the audience is not responding to a very funny set (possibly microphones not picking up the laughter well enough). Still, your outburst is really not it, love. Calm down and have a cuppa.
His blackface act is even funnier. The character he plays there is named Yaya Onukwowo, a Ghanaian lip plate sculptor who ascends the stage triumphantly swathed in Africa'an technicolour robes, flip flops, bangles galore and a massive Marge Simpson-esque afro-sponge wig, with a fruitbowl expertly balanced atop her head for the entire act. Very much akin to Lily, Onukwowo bemoans her native land, her life and just about everything else with the same ascerbic wit of the Scouse slapper, but delivers her rants in the soothing, melodic tones of your typical Sunyani mud-hut dweller. It is a masterful characterisation complimented with a script that is both hilarious, touching and respectful. Yaya captured the audiences hearts instantly with her harrowing account of the FGM she endured and how her obsessional quest to find a brand new clit has led her to London. A comedic tour de force, packed with such hilarious material as Yaya's side-splitting monologue which ponders why native African females breasts deflate so early, a highly amusing African rendition of the Chas N' Dave hit, 'Gercha!', and a particularly side splitting tale of the time Dawn French, whilst visiting Yaya's village for Comic Relief event, was suffering from a severe bout of gastroenteritis and tragically, before the first night was over, inadvertently destroyed several villagers habitats with her chronic flatulence, effectively rendering half the population homeless. O' Gradys comedic talent is in full flow during the dissertation of this true life disaster and although it ruined many Ghanaian lives which have not recovered to this day, Yaya's tongue in cheek delivery of that fateful night will guarantee some audience members are hospitalised due to the hysterical laughter she creates. Such whimsical delights are peppered occasionally with some strong pathos, none more powerful than the horrifying moment Yaya's happiness at purchasing her very first Tesco meal deal, turns to horror as she discovers her much missed, shrivelled clit in the prawn mayonnaise sandwich she has just bit into... You should give it a look..
Paul should’ve been Knighted! 💯 Anyone agree with me ?
