This isn't a male vs female "problem". Venus WIlliams earns more than almost all of the men's tennis players because she brings in the money. People pay to watch her play and she reaps the benefits. If you truly want equal pay for female athletes then you need just as many people watching women's sports as they do the men's. It's that simple.

The problem with the WNBA is that the players aren’t interested in improving their game... and most come off as very standoffish. Lowering the rim to 9ft would be a great start. Speeding up the game would be another. Altering the uniforms would be another. But the players don’t want to hear it.... so the product continues to fail.

Well, I think that's apart of the point. General Motors pays their employees the same regardless of whether you work on the Pontiac assembly line or the Chevy assembly line. And when it seemed that Pontiac was no longer worth keeping GM folded the brand. You don't extract the pay from the employees, you just close it.
I used to work for a luxury retail group which includes several luxury brands. Across the board, we all got paid a similar hourly wage, commission rate and had a similar benefits package, even though presumably each brand makes a different amount in sales per year due to VERY different price points.
So if the NBA doesn't find the WNBA as profitable enough they should just end it, but unequal pay is not right under any other circumstance.

@@DeeBrownLTD The games are played based on the time slots the tv channels will give them, not up to the commissioner or owners. The channels are only going to give you a spot based on ratings. For example if you make a new sitcom and it doesn't have a new backing it'll get a poor time slot, but if it gets great ratings they'll move it to a better time slot to encourage it's growth. If it has poor viewership they'll drop it. It's up to the WNBA to increase their viewership, not anyone else.

Respect all of you but the WNBA just doesn’t draw enough fans or interest to warrant higher salary. It’s a national brand, wNBA, but it’s a mediocre product. The fan base is very loyal but small and it’s popular regionally not nationally.

@@paigepellaton Realistically that's the answer. For the WNBA to invest smartly in marketing campaigns and find a way to draw fans. It's no different then the XFL trying to draw in fans as a new sports league. If you have a product you need to sell it. It'd be like saying a small business should pay it's salesmen the same as their billion dollar competition.

Gender desegregation across all sports including the Olympics, pro sports now have one coed league where athletes are paid a flat salary. A huge celebration is held by proponents of “equal pay” because male and female athletes are finally “equal” and pay is “fair.” There is still one major issue that would still exist, male biased sexual dimorphism in humans, in other words the major anatomical differences between the sexes. The fastest, strongest, most athletic males will always outperform the fastest, strongest, most athletic females.

It's a pure, monetary, meritocracy! As a business model. if a business fails to make a profit, it may be financially supported by a more profitable partner for a while, but ultimately, if it can't, despite best efforts' stand on its own to feet financially, it will inevitably fail. That's it. It's very similar to women's football (soccer) in the UK. You can only generate funs if people are prepared to watch. Another important point worth mentioning is the fact that women's basketball isn't even well supported by other women!!!

I say this all the time, if you apply to work at McDonalds you can not get upset over the pay, you know the pay when you fill out that application. . . . Same thing with any other field you know the type of money the job is bringing in before you get there. . .
Like most things in life, it is very easy to say just pay them. It is much more difficult to pay people who are not earning the revenue needed to support them.
Think of any sales dept at a company, the NBA are the top reps, they are bringing in the most money and profiting from the sales they earned. The WNBA is a new rep who has a lot of upside but is not hitting their quota and they want more money. Nothing is stopping them from getting more money...just increase your own revenue.
Also, the NBA has been around for 50 years more than the WNBA. When the NBA first started, those guys had other jobs too like our WNBA players now.
I just think it is an issue that will resolve itself in due time. I would love to go market for that league, so much potential! But it is just a numbers game at this point

The question shouldn't be if they are paid enough. The question should rather be whether they should be paid at all. Cause they literally have never, ever, ever generated even 1 dollar of profits in over 20 years straight. I repeat: not even 1 dollar. Ever. The WNBA is a terrible product that has been given a fair shot a generating revenue. Which it has failed at. In 2018 the 25 million the WNBA generated from TV revenue from ESPN was actually apart of the NBA's 930 million from ESPN and TNT. Ratings have been on a steady decline since 2007 with teams reportedly losing 1.5 million to 2 million dollars a year. The NBA continues to endorse the WNBA with a yearly allowance of 12 million dollars and also tying the league with their ESPN deal. WNBA lost its deal with NBC AND ABC due to ratings losses. WNBA players continue to be featured in commercials, earlier the players were featured in movies and even NBA players were being paid to show up to WNBA games for marketing purposes. Just in the WNBA's first season alone, 29 teams in the NBA invested 15 million towards marketing. We need to stop with the wage gap mess, their lucky they even make the money they do now. In fact WNBA players receive 0.32% in salary from the WNBA's TV revenue, as opposed to NBA players who receive 0.22% from the NBA's TV revenue. Now these numbers were posted in 2018 so they could have changed but, shit just admit that the WNBA is a bad product.

The NBA is over 75 years old and the NFL is 100 years old. Men had to put in the work to get these leagues to generate money. So the WNBA wants to “jump the line” and make what NBA players make. WNBA is 25 years old and attendance is DECLINING and they’re still being subsidized by the NBA. The ladies have got to do more work in getting butts in the stands and generating the interest in their professional sport, period. Complaining and getting mad at men is not going to do it!
