Garmin Enduro 2 Review After 200 Days

- This is my Garmin Enduro 2 review after having used it for a little over 200 days. It’s Garmin ultra endurance focussed watch. It’s a large watch with a large battery and an equally large price tag.

Quick Correction: The Forerunner 965 is a 1.4" screen. It is the same size as the Enduro 2. (not bigger as stated at 13:20) The FR 965 does have a higher resolution but not a bigger screen. 👍
Thanks for the review Matt. I'm wearing my Enduro 2 from October 2022 non-stop, and I love it. As you said, it's a workhorse. Super accurate on GPS, durable, the battery is incredible, display size adequate to my aging eyes :-)
I was waiting for your long term review since you mentioned it in one video earlier. The flaslight left on in the video is full Jedi style :-)
😆 - Jedi Style and I probably have some Legos around here to match. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Awesome video. Your videography and interweaving of background music is just so damn good! Great work.
Thanks buddy!
Action shots and b roll are so good
Well thank you sir!
@kofuzi sighting in comments 😂
Your B roll is 10/10 sir. The ironman poster in the back is also epic as hell too!
Thank you. Thank you. I used to have a bike in the back of my shot. I do miss having it there. Maybe I'll bring it back. 🤔
Thanks 👍 Good review
Wow, thank you for the kind words Randall!
man. your edits are on another level
Thanks you! I have fun doing that part!

This UI of Garmin - when you are able to use touch screen or/ and buttons - is amazing. TIP: use long press Start/stop as shortcut to enable/dis touches. You can anytime very easy get acces to screen control, even in the middle of acitivity or even in the middle of putting keys to rename activity :)
Thanks for the tips Tomáš! This watch has the ability to set Hot Keys to a few different functions. So you can set two buttons to take a screen shot or pull up music. Or you can set a long press of a button to go to a specific settings. Pretty cool!
I love my Enduro 2! 100% better than the first edition. That flashlight Yo! AWESOME ❤
Yeah, it's better than the first one but I did love that first iteration! But yes on the flashlight. I'm expecting it on a lot of watches going forward! Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Great review. I have an Enduro 2, and you put it perfectly: it’s a workhorse. I am regularly on multi-day mountain trips, and now I don’t need to pack a charger. (I still do, just in case.)
I get about 20% more use than with my previous Tactix 7 (had I known the E2 was coming, I would have waited!)
Also, I find the ultrafit band so much more comfortable than the chunky silicone alternative. It makes the watch easy to live with.
Thanks for the feedback Daniel! I know a lot of people are trying to pick between that Tactix and the Enduro 2.
So,u say enduro2 its way better than tactix7 ????
No, both are excellent but I notice that the screen appears a little clearer on the E2 and I’m not sure why. The E2’s extra battery accommodates times when the satellite chip has to work really hard, like a day’s climbing or walking through forest.
Great review. I am still rocking my Enduro 1st gen model but thinking to upgrade 😊
Thank you! Yeah, I love this watch!
Good, detailed review. I currently have the 6X Sapphire Pro. My next watch will be the Enduro 2 - just waiting for a good deal to come along 😀
I also wonder if they’d do an Enduro 2 Pro? 🤷🏻♂️ I guess that pretty much just be a heart rate sensor switch. But it would drive prices down of the older one. Best of luck. It’s a great watch. 👌
Hmm enduro 2 pro is the fenix 7x pro. I'm curious if they plan to release the enduro 3 but the only Difference may be the battery. Right now they are really similar.
I had one. And the flashlight is so useful 🔦 specially during night run..
I still need to film the a night run with the cadence flash. Super cool idea from Garmin. I have this feeling all watches are going to be getting flashlights going forward. 🤞
First, fabulous video and editing. I bought the 7x and then the Enduro 2 came out a few weeks later. Thanks Garmin. I then added the epix 2 to my mix. I should have returned my 7x and just got the Enduro 2. I do baby ultras, so I guess it doesn't matter. These all work. The forerunner 965 looks awesome, but not as durable materials. I'm tapping out Garmin, so I can save for retirement.
Retire or shiny new Garmin? Maybe that'll always be the tradeoff 😂 And I'm sure Garmin is working on something interesting in the near future. We'll see. And baby Ultras are still Ultras. 👌
@@mlegrand you realize by tapping out, I mean until the next amazing Garmin 😜
Hi Matt. Great review, as always. Too pricey for what I do (hike/walk). If I was to buy another smartwatch it would be the Insinct 2x.
I'm starting to test that watch soon! Thanks Paul!
Great review as usual. I have both the AWU and the Garmin Enduro 2 and go up and back wearing both at different times. I am curious which of these two devices do you prefer for your daily driver and why you choose one over the other. I get that for any ultra distance events the Enduro battery is far superior to the AWU but other than that, why do you choose one device over the other. Thanks and keep up the great reviews.
Steve, you are my kind of man. ✌🏻⌚️ These two watches are very different. I typically wear the AWU on my right wrist and some sort of other test device on the left. There are lots of little things that I like about each. I like Garmin's sleep tracking and morning report and I like closing my rings on the Apple Watch. I prefer swimming and biking with the Garmin and running is kind of a wash between the two as long as the AWU is charged and then the AWU is obviously better for all the daily smart watch stuff. Thanks so much for watching!
Great review Matt too bad I need an edge. This is the top of line watch for sure. The battery life is insane
Next purchase is an Edge cycling computer? 840 non solar?
@@mlegrand I'm leaning solar 1040.
Excellent as always
Thank you Jesse!
My Apple Watch friends are constantly concerned about charge. The stamina of the Enduro2 is so liberating. I do wish the display was better. But that is a tradeoff for stamina.
It’s pretty impressive. Almost like the opposite of an Apple Watch in some ways. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
I am using the Enduro 2 since 7 months and I love it. Although it is a large watch it wears very comfortable. The battery capacity is amazing. I do expeditions and value the fact that I do not need to recharge the watch often. I was a bit sceptical regarding the display but as longer I use the watch as more I like it. Super easy to read in day light conditions. Only in darker rooms I need to use the backlight which is rarely the case. The flashlight is amazing und very useful. Can't be more happy with the watch!
I agree. It’s an amazing option. What kind of photography do you do?
@@mlegrand Hey there, mainly travel photography.
I hope they release an Epix 2 with a flashlight. I agree I can’t go without one now.
That's been the rumor. 👌
The darn flashlight has me wanting to trade in my relatively new Fenix 6x Pro (1 year old) for a Fenix 7x Solar or Instinct 2x. The good news is, dropping 450-900 USD on a smart watch is outside of my budget right now, and not justifiable at all with the 6x hardly showing signs of wear or battery degredation other than some scratches the bezel earned. I use the screen based flashlight on the 6 daily
Thank you Matt for yet another superbly crafted review. I own a 'Fenix 6 Saphire' model (orange band) with its battery starting to deteriorate. 4 hours max walking with GPS/Navigation enabled (no music). I am torn between the 'Epix 2*' and this 'Enduro 2'. But exercising outside most of the time, the latter* might be the better choice. There are rumours that a 'Fenix 8' might be on the arising. Should I wait a little longer? Thanks again.
I have only seen rumors of an Epix or Fenix Pro model. Might be worth waiting a few weeks to see if any of it is true.
Best watch on the market
It’s a very impressive option for sure! Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Great video. Curious what you use the flashlight on the watch for. I figured it’d come in handy when I lose my phone in between the car seat and need to find it lol.
Going to the bathroom at night. 😆 Or really anything when the family is tucked in. 👌
I love the flashlight. I just wish that it was on the 3 o'clock side rather than 12 o'clock side of the watch. I hate having to bend my arm to have the light shine directly on what I want to look at.
Yeah, that would be interesting. There's a spot for it in between the two buttons on the right side. 🤷♂️
hey let's compromise.. I vote for 2pm position ;)
@@btc76 hahahahahahahaha hahaha 😑
My favourite Garmin watch at the moment. To bad about the price... At 13:20 you say that the Forerunner 965 has a bigger screen but they're both 1.4" right? Or do you mean screen resolution?
That was just a mistake. You're right. They're both 1.4" The 965 looks bigger to me and for some reason I thought it was 0.1 bigger. 🤦♂️ Thanks for helping find that mistake Alexanrdre!
I was leaning toward a fenix 7x pro solar sapphire, until I learned about Enduro 2. I'm on the fence still though as the 7x pro has the updated heart rate monitor. But, I mainly got into these garmin watches for the gps, mapping and lengthy backpacking outings, so the extra battery in addition to the features of the 7x pro is really tugging me toward the endoro 2. Any suggestions? Thanks for the video, great info! Lastly, a bit of a gimmick for me, but I really like the colored button. : )
I’m wearing the Enduro 2 now. I really like it but I think you really could go either way with very little noticeable differences. I’d look at what kind of deals you can find as far as pricing. 👌 Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
I’m curious: now the F7 pro is out, is the display noticeably better than E2? I’m not a fan of AMOLED, but I’m wondering if the new MIP display is clearer indoors. Or whether you get the same readability by cranking up the backlight!
It’s hard for me to tell but yes, I think there are some slight advantages to the new Fenix Pro’s display. I wouldn’t say that the display or the new heart rate sensor are huge advantages over the older stuff. I’d look at price and see what kind of deals you can find. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Epix 2 pro is out now. Please do a comparison video! I have the Enduro 2 my buddy wants the new epix. I want to know how the amulet screen affects the epix batt life compared to enduro2's oled.
Here's my early review of the Epix Pro: ruclips.net/video/xeshw90uowo/видео.html And here's my review of the Fenix Pro: ruclips.net/video/Co8bHUrD51k/видео.html
There is a new optical heart rate sensor but other than that it's pretty similar to the Enduro 2. The Epix does have the AMOLED screen which is nice but it's still a big hit on battery life.
Thanks Matt. I'm curious if there is anything to distinguish the 7X from this? This seems better but the Fenix is supposed to be the 'flagship'.
They are extremely similar. The Enduro 2 has a slightly longer battery life, brighter flashlight and sits up a little higher on the wrist (16mm vs 17mm on the Enduro).
Yeah Garmin kinda messed up this gen. Their Flagship Watch is the base for other watches, the Epix, Tactix and Enduro, but you don't give anything up for those more dedicated platforms. The Fenix is now more like the base model of the flagship line. That being said, I think as far as bang for your buck goes it's probably the best option among those. It's the cheapest and while it doesn't get the battery of the Enduro, the tactical features of the Tactix or the bright screen of the Epix it seems to be a good balance of all of that and price.
How does the nylon band hold up in chlorine or salt water pools. Does it caused fading? Also does the water compromise the Velcro in any way? Thanks
So far I've had no issues with fading from chlorine in a lap swimming pool but I do switch watches around a lot to test different things. I would imagine that the chlorine would eventually eat away at the nylon and any elastic within the band. So far I haven't seen it but I'm guessing you'd need to replace the strap eventually. I haven't tested any salt water pools but I didn't haven't any issues due to ocean swimming.
Question how do you set up auto start on your watch for example if you stop a run and walk into a store ect and walk back out but you forget to start it back up and you loose all the data
There's an autopause feature you could try. Sounds like it might do kind of what you're looking for:
Hold UP.
Select Menu symbol > Activities & Apps.
Select an activity.
Select the activity settings.
Select Auto Pause.
Select an option:
To pause the timer automatically when you stop moving, select When Stopped.
To pause the timer automatically when your pace or speed drops below a specified level, select Custom.
hey good review, have you ear about problems with the buttons and the inaccurate compass? thanks
I haven't had any issues with the buttons personally and I've been using those more frequently than the touchscreen. I haven't checked the accuracy of the compass. It's just not something I need to use frequently. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Thank you!!
Really detailed review (like always).
Do you think the Instinct 2X is going to cut into the sales of this watch? It seems like the battery life (albeit without the fancy screen) is going to be as good, or better for half the price. OR! am I just being cheap?
It is a sweet watch for sure!
I wish there was a more clear line of when to upgrade (this goes for all technology- not just watches). When am I going to notice the upgrade? Indecision is the worst!
XOXO
K
I used to think every other model was a nice upgrade cycle. I do have the Instinct 2X here to test. I'll probably unbox it today and have a video out in a few weeks. 👌
@@mlegrand CAN'T WAIT!!!!
I have the fenix 7s sapphire solar only complaint really is the color isn't very bright. Slid down Mt. Baldy bowl because of a stoopid ice sheet 20ft or so hit a tree grabbed on watch was fine I checked if that isn't a sale point.
Ouch! Hope you're ok. I agree that these transflective displays seem so dim compared to all of the new AMOLED devices. You can crank the display brightness at the expense of battery life but it'll only go so far. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Is it good for swimming? Not too much drag with such a thick watch? Thank you for review!!! 👍🏻🙏🏻👏🏻
Garmin watches have always been my favorite brand for swimming. It’s a very thick watch but I haven’t noticed it dragging. I’m guessing if swimming is your top priority, a smaller lighter watch from Garmin might be a good option as well. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Hello matt and other viewers,
I plan to upgrade my instinct (no solar), I love the long life batterie and the resistance of this device.
Do you think it's worth it to go for the enduro 2 or there is not such a big gap btw instinct 2 solar and enduro 2?
thanks for your answer
I don't think there's a huge gap between the Enduro 2 and the Instinct 2X. Those are probably the two that I would consider. It'll come down to price for the most part but the Enduro 2 is basically a Fenix 7 with slightly better battery life. I'd check out this video by @DesFit : ruclips.net/video/MQgyIWxzlp4/видео.html
@@mlegrand thx for tour answer after more digging i'll go for the enduro 2, If i take a instinct + a bike gps it will be arround the same price. Thanks for your video it help me a lot. Also do you have a link for Garmin ?
My opinion is that 965 have almost all the same functions that have Enduro, but with more buetifull display and more lighter. 965 can do all the outdoors features like enduro. Only U haven't flash light ( but always U will take a head lamp with U, when U go hike) and and battery endurance. (and also U will always take a power bank with U - if You go hike more days). Also the price!
Good point Ivo. There's a huge price difference. I'm working on my 965 review now!
Hello everyone! What do you think about durability of enduro 2’s bezel and fenix 7x’s? Thank you.
I've been wearing the Enduro 2 a lot recently and the bezel looks perfect currently. No issues. I have a feeling it depends a lot on what coating Garmin uses with these watches but who knows. 🤷🏻♂️ Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
I have the "original" Enduro, I love them just because of their battery life. I didn't buy/upgrade to the Enduro 2 because I really don't need the touch screen for example. The only disadvantage of Enduro is their size when I play football with them. I had a couple of Forerunner models before and also Coros Apex and they were ideal for using them while playing football but that's just a detail. The new Forerunner 965 looks great and I considered buying this new model and changing them for Enduro but I'm not sure about it just because of the battery life. I'm running and cycling or playing football almost every day and I still charge my Enduro once in a while. Last week, I went to the training session (about one and a half hours) with 3% of the battery and it "survived" to the morning and I didn't even recognise the watches were almost dead. There aren't the latest features and updates for the original Enduro watches but that's something I can live without it. But I know something like FR 965 will be my next model probably.
I say make that Enduro last as long as possible and maximize the value. It's a great watch. Most of the updates aren't critically helpful. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
@@mlegrand Yes, I agree and it's the most common argument I say to myself. I love them and I don't think a feature like "morning report" is so important to convince me to buy new watches. Another option, just because of playing football and using them just for football training sessions/matches, is to buy something like Forerunner 45/55 to have smaller watches.
@@ondraeisner5268 - You could probably pick up a used one for cheap. 🤷♂
At $1100, it better include a pair for Speed Goats and a bag of Tailwind LoL Must be fun to try
Did I not mention that it comes in a gold case and a pile of unmarked bills? 💰
@@mlegrand you weren’t lying! Limited time offer 😂
i just have found your channel. great review, thank you for the details. I'm stuck between buying Enduro 2 and Tactix 7 Pro. Do you mind sharing your opinions between these two? I will appreciate it a lot.
I haven't reviewed the Tactix 7 Pro but my understanding is that these two watches are extremely similar. I'd look arounnd and try to find the best deal possible. Maybe it can come down to the best price? 🤷♂️
The Tactix also has some elements that are more useful to tactical situations or hunting. Nightvision goggle mode for example. If any of those features are important to you, than the Tactix is the easy choice. 👍
@@mlegrand appreciated. subscribed! good luck with the channel.
@@CarlJ911 - Thanks Carl! Keep me posted on anything else you'd like to see here. 👍
If it helps, I had the Tactix 7 pro, before the E2. The military features are not really necessary: the ones I do use are available on Fenix/Enduro anyway. NVG mode only works if your goggles can focus on something as close as your wrist! However, if you are a military pilot the aviation features on the Tactix might be helpful.
The E2 gives me an extra 20% more battery life, and that really is worthwhile!
@@danscoular - Yeah, it's probably 1mm thicker on the wrist but more battery life is really nice!
very nice watch, but definitly fr965 just getting a better band than the orignal, is for far better.
I have both but use the Enduro 2 quite a bit. Just having that massive battery life is super helpful. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Ahh, the workhorse. Yes, the best watch i ever had.
Oh yeah!
@@mlegrand I don't even care about their new 7 and epix pro 🤣
Prefer amoled screen, its so beautiful...fr965 its a great choice for modern lifestyle
My 965 review is coming up soon. It’s a great option!
@@mlegrand I don't see any real benefits of AMOLED. You get less visibility outdoors for increased visibility indoors where I actually don't train/run/bike/hike/ski/sail. You also get less battery and need to use silly gestures. You get a screen with less durability since MIP can go fine for many years but AMOLED is going to cause problems including burn in and even Garmin tells you that when activating AOD. You can't see the watch clearly with sunglasses that have polarized lenses. The only benefit I see is that it's pretty. But no one is looking at their sportswatch that frequently or is watching pictures on it. AMOLED has many purposes for media consumer devices. But when it comes to sports or even watches in general, it's like saying e-reader is worse to read e-books than a tablet.
@@ted363636 - Double the screen resolution means much better graphics and more mapping details. The transflective displays are work horses for sure but it’s hard not to see the appeal of the appearance when they’re right next to each other.
@@mlegrand Like I said - it's a watch, you don't use it like a phone. I love mapping but I don't plan trips on it. I simply glance for two seconds to see, if it's a cprrect turn. And I hate using gesture every time I wanna glance at the stats or a map.
I run 200 mile ultras and trying to decide with this or vertix 2
I have both and wear the Enduro 2 almost exclusively. I think the Vertix 2 is a great watch but the Enduro 2 will be the one you’ll want daily. For example, I love the sleep tracking and morning report. It’s battery life isn’t quite what the Vertix 2 is but it’s still amazing. I charge it about once a month.
I'm no athlete or power user.
But I love the Enduro 2 as a long time gshock fan.
However, I did get mine used off eBay, so I didn't pay retail .
Definitely a steep point of entry for this guy.
The flashlight is by far the killer feature. I also enjoy the Garmin Pay feature much more than I should.
If I had been patient I probably would have jumped on the Instinct 2X but I'm happy with the color touch screen.
I really want to review a GShock at some point. I've reached out to them a few times but haven't ever heard back. I do have an Instinct 2X review that I'm working on. 👍

$1k dollar watch, no way I'd ever buy it.
I have enough problems putting out $500 out for a watch, even though I still do it.
Me too. I'm not a big spender but now with this channel, I'm reviewing a lot of high end watches. The 955 for $500 is a hell of a deal. And maybe people could find an even better deal now that the 965 is out. 🤷♂️
This was a wild comment to read as I was thinking I was getting a budget watch while researching this? Is 1k expensive for a watch? My cheapest watch is a Tudor, coming in at about 4400$ pre-tax. I have to question the quality of watches you are purchasing for 500$.
@@kinnymane8593 budget watches are a hundred or two hundred dollars. 400+is expensive. Unless your born with a silver spoon...
@@Jay-sd9ye everything is relative I guess. for me I wouldn’t even see the point in owning a 500 dollar watch (smart watches excluded, of course a 500 dollar smart watch would make sense) as I prefer to invest in things I can one day pass down and let my children get a full life’s enjoyment out of in my memory as well. I don’t buy name brand junk, I have a buy once cry once philosophy but I don’t think of 500 as budget. I thought of my Tudor as a budget watch I could wear backpacking too.
@@kinnymane8593 - I'd say the Tudor watch is a different type of watch. These sports watches are not intended to be passed down for generations. There are some good watches at $500 in this category but I can't imagine it's the same for the high-end timepiece category. 🤷♂
this watch if I have a amoled screen would be the best watch in the world! with a black and white screen where you need a flashlight to see the time at night, it's not worth it.Waste of money.
I think this watch appears super dark in comparison to some of the AMOLED options in certain situations. The Enduro 2’s display is definitely better outside in sunny conditions. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
