Glad you liked it! I love trying to come up with something creative to start these videos off. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
THANK YOU for being normal and talking at a normal speed. Quite a rarity for US based RUclipsrs who seem to talk at 100mph, necessitating reducing the speed to 80% Good editing, without being too snappy and informative
Thank you North Country Girl 1980! I think the fast cuts are the new style. I used to have commenters suggest people play me at 1.5x speed. 😆 But I'm just going to keep making these the same way I always make them. 🤷🏻♂️
I’m amazed by the fact you don’t get a lot more attention. Your videos are high quality and cover everything I need to know about sports gadgets. Great work, keep going 💪
Super smooth video work Matt! I’ve been a Pace 3 user since day one and updated from the 2. Fully back your thoughts after 100+ days. I’m using it as a running watch only, so no cycling or 24/7 wear. What I appreciate is that it’s a no frills, get the job done kind of watch and software platform. All the stuff you need without the additional clutter. Pace lag is indeed a bummer but on the other side the compact size, the low weight and Coros track record for software support is a big plus in my books. Cheers!
Good point Arnold! This watch provides the perfect value for a running focussed watch and there's real value to the lightweight side of it as well. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
This is damn hell of quality review here. Most brands are not able to afford commercials filmed that good, not even talking about content. Thanks for your effort, much appreciated. This is first time in my life I am leaving comment under product review)
Wow, thank you Dugwin! I really enjoy the filming and editing part of making these! I just recently posted another COROS video if that's what you're interested in but there's a ton of other content on the channel as well. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
I actually picked up the Coros Pace 3. I was comparing it to the Fr255. What pushed me over the top was that I liked Coros updating old devices. Glad to see its holding up for you that was a big concern of mine feels so light like a toy almost on my wrist
Love my Pace 3, I've had it since late February. I've never had a Garmin (or any running watch, for that matter), so I can't compare. I turn off the notifications and the touchscreen as I'm happy using the dial. I use an HR strap for more instantaneous and accurate feedback, but on the rare occasions where I run without the chest strap, after the run, the HR results are in line with that of the HR chest strap monitor. I appreciate the sleep monitoring as it helps me be honest about my actual bedtimes and encourages me to give myself a better chance of good sleep by going to bed earlier. I only use the Pace 3 for running and hiking. I'd like the Pod 2, but as that came out a while back, and I'm more focused on base building with HR, I'll wait for the Pod 3 as the pace is laggy. Very happy with the firmware updates since purchasing the watch.
Happy Pace 3 user here, thank you for this review brother. Been using the Pace 3 for quite a while now and coming from someone who hates charging their watch regularly the battery life has been solid for me. I also like how the app is user-friendly and how the metric is easy to understand.
Super stellar review as always, man. Super stellar. The track to watch band was so good - running shots in forest - macro work - even the large "100" and small little 'days' in the corner was great
Dang man, your channel is absolute fire, love it! Subscribed already, very helpful for me to consider what watch is the most suitable for me, keep your great works up, brother!🔥
Wow, thank you for the kind words! Up next is a Suunto Race S watch and then some Apple stuff and a few other devices. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
I am not gonna say the Pace 3 GPS is super accurate, but my girlfriend changed two garmins in the last year - the Venu 3s(she lost it) and the Vivoactive 5. Both these watches measure distance while she was standing still and the altimeter on the Venu was pretty off. Never had problems like these on my Pace 3. I also have friend who has the Garmin Enduro 2(top tier dual band GPS) and on a recent hike his watch measured 17km on course that is 13km. I respect Garmin, but their watches are also not perfect and struggle in different scenarios. I was thinking about buying a Fenix, but I will probably stick to my Pace for now.
Interesting. I have all of these Garmin watches and have had really accurate data from them. Maybe I’m doing something a little different 🤷🏻♂️ Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
I just picked up the track edition pace 3. I am highly satisfied. I am not a triathlete .., and I am a very non elite runner.., but I have a Garmin Instinct 1, and an Apple Watch 3, so I was up to try something new. so with 229, plus an additional free watch band.., I am good. maybe in a few years I get the latest and greatest AW ultra.., but the 1 & 2, just dont do it for me.., and who know what Garmin is up to at that point .., maybe I go back by then. anywho ...., great video
Yeah, I'm interested to see where Apple is going with the AWU. I'd love to see some new innovative tech added in here. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment Matthias. I really appreciate it. 👍
Solid, objective, summary of the Pace 3 and the Coros ethos. Given the price-point of the Forerunner 255 (USA) I would say the Pace 3 takes a distant 2nd. With respect to the Forerunner 165 tough call but between the two and it really depends on each individuals' use case. Matt, consider doing a review of basic running watches like the Timex Ironman, Casio G-Shock DWH5600 and GBD200(both now sync with Strava). Then compare with the budget modern watches like the Pace 3 and the Forerunners 55, 165 or 255. Maybe throw out tips on using a more basic watch for runs/activities and the possible upsides. Showing a progression of change that has occurred with tech and fitness. I only mention this because in this 100 day review you touch on it while discussing GNSS chipset accuracy and the lunacy that comes from obsessing over specs and data.
Great suggestion. I used a Timex for a long long time and it was fantastic. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
My apple watch SE2 screen splits from its body yesterday after just 13 months. Ordered this watch for RM890 (USD189) here in Malaysia. No entry level Garmin can beat that price. The forerunner here costs about RM1200.
This is a great watch but it’s very different than the Apple Watch. I’m guessing there are things you’ll miss (like smart features) and other parts of the Pace that you’ll love (like battery life) Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
@@mlegrand Just rewatched your intro with my wife, and then again, brilliant! And nope, the intro was not weird at all. How do you get your audio to be the same throughout the entire video - noice work.
@@TheManWithTwoWatches - For my voice audio, I use the same mic and do the entire talking stuff in one sit. Then I mix in background music and other sound design stuff. I still think my audio could be better. Sound design is a super interesting part of production work. 🤔
Well . . . I agree to some extent. I wear so many different watches here on this channel. The MIP displays are underrated. Great battery life and look great outdoors. But the brighter AMOLED displays are nice when swimming and glancing at your splits under water. I also love their higher resolutions. I wonder if COROS will ever dabble with an AMOLED display. I bet they will at some point. 🤔
@@mlegrand I also liked how you illustrated that (and I’m paraphrasing) for the average normal casual runner, the GPS tracks on most COROS, Garmin, Apple, etc devices will be just fine. I think people get caught up in micro analysis - great points Matt!!
Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍 Another one to consider might be the Garmin FR 165 or the FR 255 if it’s on sale. 👌
What color did you snag? I think you'll really like this watch. It's a great option at a great price. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
While COROS is known for its running watches, the triathlon mode seems incomplete without advanced swimming features. Swim training, especially drills, is crucial for triathletes. Without these, the watch isn't appealing to serious swimmers/Triathletes. (in my opinion) COROS's goal to attract triathletes is great. But to reach this group, the watch needs to work well for all three sports: running, swimming, and cycling. A running watch with a triathlon mode isn't enough. So at the moment I would definitely not recommend this watch to triathletes. Better options would be Garmin FR 255 or more premium the 265
Oh yeah, our running, HRV or sleep data could very well be on Chinese servers. 😬 But I honestly don’t know. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
It seems that Coros calculates nonsences: Videotime 7:48 - Pace anaerobic endurance 61%, BUT heartrate anaerobic endurance 1%. Coros has nice training hub, but donť know, how to calculate features? UPDATE: apologize to Coros. I bought Pace 3, I made a Fitness test on track and now, zones are right. Better than others. And I like Efford pace in trail. I sold my Garmin and become a Coros user :-)
On point as always. Coros dual band gps watches are laggy. My Pace 2 is more accurate than my new Coros Vertix 2s. I got my first gps watch at age 40 (10) years ago. I ran from age 14 to 40 without a gps watch.
Fantastic Video and an amazing intro! I am searching my first sportwatch and the Pace 3 is very interesting. Would you recommend it for road cycling? That would be my main useage for it. Or do you maybe have a better ideal?
It probably wouldn’t be my first pick for road cycling but it would work well for that use case. Do you ever use a dedicated cycling computer for road cycling?
@mlegrand No, net yet. I am thinking about a watch because of all the heartrate related data to improve my Training and recovery. Also for gps tracking my Training. I am not Sure, if i also want to use the watch for Navigation. This is maybe not so practical. And in this case i would go for the Suunto Race S Good idea?
I wonder why none of these Pace reviews talk about how the watch fits in with your existing fitness ecosystem. Does it sync well with my platform health app? How are notifications handled? Etc 🤷🏻♂️
Good point! Is your existing health app Strava or one of the millions of other options within the smart watch eco system? If it's Strava, it fits really well. It'll automatically upload all of your activity data after each run.
Great video. I am trying to find a watch and am paralyzed by all the choices. I am watching all your videos to help narrow down the field. You are incredibly thorough. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I used to be a college distance runner, but I took off time from running. I am getting back into it. Projected to do my first marathon in April 2025. I am a 57 year old woman looking for a watch to help with tracking, planning workouts, and recovery. Suggestions?
Hi Amy, I was a long distance college runner also! I have a lot of suggestions for you to consider. This COROS Pace 3 is an excellent option. I don't think you'd be disappointed with it at all. I would also highly recommend you check out the Garmin FR 165 (I'll have a video in a week or so about it) but it's excellent and it's ideal for a budget marathon training watch ($250). It has a music edition that cost more and I don't think is necessary but I do like the color options of the music editions. 🤷♂️ My wife also gets to test a lot of running watches and lately she's been wearing the Garmin Venu 3 (video here: ruclips.net/video/Q7JfejqxJek/видео.htmlsi=Kjq4ef8fwTW5Q4Yz). The Venu series is designed to be a little bit more of a smart watch with a speaker and a microphone and the Garmin Forerunner series of watches are aimed at more serious runners. But either of these watches would be wonderful for marathon training. There's also the Garmin Forerunner 265 which is a very nice watch. It's a step up in features from the FR 165. (another video: ruclips.net/video/Es5PO2ifwsQ/видео.htmlsi=IVJTWhTkdrlZAyPH) Ultimately, I think you'll be really happy with any of these watches and I would recommend looking at some of the color options and styles to help guide your purchase. You do have to wear it after all. And with regards to training. Start slow and then go ahead and slow down a little bit more out there. Us retired distance runners have the tendency to settle back into our old 'easy' paces. Best of luck with training and the watch purchase. - Matt
@@mlegrand Hi Matt. All the watches you mentioned were on my list except for the Venue 3. I was looking at Suunto Race and Polar Vantage V3, but those two watches are a bit more than what I need. I really appreciate the time you took to respond to my comment. I also 100% agree with your advice. Thank you for all the content and for linking your videos. I appreciate you and will be returning to your channel for future advice.
I'm a italian runner. Congratulations on the video, I wanted to ask you something since I bought the pace 3. During training I set the automatic lap every km, but if I then do manual lap the next lap sounds 1km after the manual one (1.5km - 2.5km). Instead I would like it to continue beeping every km (1-2-3km) as it did with my polar and then in the summary at the end of the workout check the automatic lap and the various manual laps. Is there this possibility of setting the clock? Because I can't find it. Thanks.
this Watch sounds great and I really want to buy it but there is one thing that I miss. I want my Watch for hiking and therefore I need (offline) navigation with a map shown on the watch.
@@mlegrand yes the Price is the problem. Maybe the new Suunto Race s is the Perfect Watch for me. This Watch have offline navigation and is bot too expensive.
Hi man! I write from Spain! I'm going to prepair my first marathon so looking for my first GPS watch (just going to use it for running). I'm deciding to buy whether the pace 3 vs the garmin fr 255. Difficult decision. Taking into acount the use I'm going to do of the watch... Maybe Garmin a bettee option? If GPS is better in the garmin, I think maybe I should buy it (In Spain in sales they have similar price). Love this review. Thanks!
very good review, love the aesthetics, the visual style you choose for this. I also like you compared the smartwatch sizes, would love if you could do indepth comparison of features between garmin and coros. I'm on the edge to buy Coros as it is readily available where I am at, however garmin 255 has been discontinued in international markets for some reason and they are pushing 265 which without discounts makes no sense with coros pace 3.
I've been seeing the 255 on sale. It's an amazing option. The 265 is a significant upgrade in price. Are you going to use it for triathlon events or just running mostly? The Garmin FR 165 might be another one to consider depending on what you need.
@@mlegrand the reason why I am disliking 165 is lack of work profiles, and at the same time in the same price bracket coros pace 3 and suunto race s provides it with extra features (however unbaked they may be).
@@myownbasement - I have a review of the 165 here on this channel if you want to check it out. It does have a swim profile which is superior to other brands (in my opinion) But the 165 is missing triathlon which the Suunto and Coros have. Best of luck and be sure to let me know what you ended up with and how you're liking it. Thanks!
I know as a reviewer that perfect GPS tracks should be super important to me but. . . I’m typically paying attention to my actual run more than my GPS plot points.
@@mlegrand GPS track comparison is the equivalent of “pixel peeping” in digital cameras. There’s a certain point where it’s totally fine. I appreciated the honesty because it’s so true.
I disagree with your comment about the GPS not being a big deal. In your comparison about back in the day you ran without GPS. Yes back then they either didn't have it or it was garbage. In today's market if you are going to want someone to pay hundreds of dollars and your competitors have accurate GPS, then yes its a big deal. No excuse from a company that sponsors runners across many categories. Love your content. Keep it up.
Good point Nicholas! I could have shown a lot more GPS plots in this video but I always worry about that stuff getting repetitive and boring but I had a mix of results with this watch. Overall I'm pretty happy with it. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
It's a little hard to tell because I don't know if it was more white before but it doesn't seem to discolor from what I can tell. Just the watch band. Are you thinking about picking one of these up?
@ 🤷♂️ Possibly, I sold my pace 3 (black) and now regret it. Lol. I've been using the AWU2, but just can't seem to get onboard to use it in races. Also looking at the Pace Pro. Considered using a Garmin, but they are just to heavy handed on their: pricing model and feature restrictions (unless you pay $). Plus their training readiness and the other black box wellness computations are not useful to m. Even when the 965 was recently on sale at $499 USD... I just couldn't. Garmin may have better map functionality on the watch over Coros, but... the AWU2 can fill the blank with their faster offline routing and POI searching (if you pre-d/l'd the maps to the AW). So maybe a Coros Pace X for: races and training plans. AWU2 for: day hikes, leisure runs with tunes minus the phone, and everyday conveniences(apple pay, notifications, LTE, etc).
@@splatmatt - The nice thing is that the Pace 3 won't break the bank as a back up device. If you wanted to the opposite of the AWU2 you could probably find something like a Garmin Enduro 2 at a good discount: amzn.to/3CYfXD1 It's still pricey but it's a watch that I'm still putting on very frequently. Take care buddy!
I agree. I wish they'd look into something more like what Apple does with a conductive charging option that doesn't require the watch to sit in any sort of orientation. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
I’m looking for a new watch in the price range of something like this, can go higher - maybe up to $300. All I want it to do is be accurate with pace and distance while being able to do splits. My Apple Watch can’t do splits 😢 and it’s starting to be bummy now. Would you say this is a good option, and what would be a garmin option to look at? Thanks!
This and then the Garmin Forerunner 165 and 255 would be three good watches to look at. I should have videos on each of these here on this channel. The 255 should be on sale. www.amazon.com/dp/B09WTP57Z5/ref=cm_sw_r_as_gl_api_gl_i_T06CPCQ5C59FH178C3AP?linkCode=ml2&tag=mlegrand0c-21-20
@@mlegrandI could get any of these and be satisfied, so one more question - what watch do you think will last the longest? Not battery life, but like how long until it doesn’t really work like it used to, and I would need to replace it
I’m still using my Polar M430….which, I think, is about 6 years old? It’s had its moments of frustration…dropping my HR altogether, for example. But, man, for the price ($140) it’s a freaking steal. If price wasn’t an issue, which watch would you go with? Price is an issue, by the way, but I’m just curious. Great review! 👏👏👏👏👏
I love it when people max out the value of their watches!!! I would probably look at something like a Garmin 265 if it were me. There are a ton of options these days. The Suunto Race S might also be another one to look into. Let me know if you have questions!
It depends on how you define ‘performs’. I’ve found gps accuracy to be good on both and heart rate accuracy to also be similar. The Instinct 2 did better in open water swimming than most watches but I think I’d choose base on which one looks the best to you. The Pace is smaller and lighter and the Instinct series is designed to be larger but more durable. The Instinct 3 could also be coming in the future. Hard to tell 🤷🏻♂️ but you could do a google search for rumors. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
It is good. But that Enduro 2 is a fantastic option. That’s actually the watch I have on right now. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
I typically don't see great heart rate data from any watch while swimming. It's really hard for these algorithms to parse out all of the noise from a swim stroke. I do feel like it's accurate when you get to the wall after a hard rep within a set. So I think it's nice to glance at that info at time. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
As these lithium ion batteries get older they really start to give out. I typically start to see issues after about 2 years. My older brother just upgraded from the Garmin 745 to the 265 which is a pretty amazing watch. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Personally, I'd go for the 955. But the Pace 3 is a lot more affordable. Overall the 955 is a significantly nicer watch. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
I find that all fitness watches and their usage timeframes are completely off. Regardless of whether it’s numbers of days they promise or gps hours. For example: Coros Pace 3 touts 38 hrs of gps usage when using gps only for satellite connection when working out. Since my last charge, I’ve worked out for 1 hr 23 mins but the number of hours left for gps usage shows 34 hrs. How does that math work?! I feel like my 265s does the same thing. Is this possibly a settings thing or is this common for others?
There is a GPS setting that you *might* have set to multi-band GPS. That would for sure effect battery life. These corporate marketing numbers are optimistic and each brand measure them slightly differently. They also typically word it as 'Up to 38 hours' In those cases, it's probably set up with the most basic gps settings.
Great review! I have been toying with switching to Coros. I am a Garmin user. The Garmin Livetrack feature is very important to me as I often run late or alone. Does Coros Pace 3 offer the type of Livetrack that Garmin does?
As someone who's been rocking a used garmin 245 would it be worth upgrading to the pace 3? It wouldve been an easy yes but I kind would like to have the bigger screen of the 255 music but other than that both have the same features I want that the 245 non music doesn't. Those are my main two upgrade paths as Id rather not have an amoled screen(i prefer the battery life of mip)
Yeah, that 255 would be amazing. I'd look at sale options. I wouldn't worry about music but that's just me. I never use music from my watch and I'd save the money.
What kind of numbers are you seeing? Are there any settings that you've changed? In particular the backlight might be triggering frequently and killing your battery life?
Im not a runner but always have the liking for wanting a coros. At least for the sake of heart rate, sleep analysis, recovery and strength and hiit workouts. Do you think i should go for it?
I like your video. I have a comparison question. If Garmin 255 have the same price tag as Pace 3, which one is the better choice for running in City and at track. This is current situation in China. It is hard decision for me. Thanks,
I think I would pick the Garmin between those two if it were me. They're both great options so it's a tricky call. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Are there any further things you can disable in the watch for maximum battery life? I only need it for running 2x a week, and for the time the rest of the week. I want to switch off 10min HR tracking, step counting, sleep, etc - it doesn't seem like this is possible?
Good question. A lot of brands have a low power mode but I don’t remember COROS having something like that. I’d really like to see more brands allow custom profiles for power usage. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Thanks for the video. Have you come across any long term issues with the Coros watches? My 3.25 year old Pace 2 went from everything great to massive battery drain with no warning. Coros support says battery probably just went bad and it is out of warranty. I suspect it's a software glitch when in daily use that suddenly made the battery start draining about 1% every 10 minutes - its not the new stress feature doing it. I'm considering the pace 3 but don't want to renew my watch every three years. Thoughts? And thanks again.
I haven't seen anything but I don't wear my Pace 2 any more. I'd say you would probably know better than the the support group because you witnessed it but I would have guessed a bad lithium ion battery after 2-3 years. That's a pretty common issue after a few years. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Hopefully I get a reply from you. I heard the pace 3 has issue with running and cycling data tracking bc of the vibration of the cycling and the impact in running force it mess with the censor. Is it true? Bc I want an accurate data watch. Either garmin 165 or pace 3 right now I don’t know which one
That’s not something I’ve experienced. It’s true with all watches that things like heart rate accuracy can struggle when there are a lot of vibrations from cycling or mountain biking. I also have a video on the 165. I think I’d probably go that route unless you need triathlon or something else that the Pace 3 provides. 👌
Good Vid .100% agree on pace laggy & I dislike that you have to pay $$$ for Pod to fix that issue. If I have to buy GPS watch today I'd buy Garmin 255 (non-music) over Coros Pace 3 .Why ? I like MIP 1.3" screen , GPS as good as Fenix 7 ,but I do like Coros App more than Garmin.
@@khueta2804 Well, I had pace laggy issue even on my easy run let alone speed work. I own 4 Coros watch from Apex42 , Apex46 , Apex Pro & Apex 2 . All have same issue. End up switch back to Garmin 255.
@@khueta2804I did 30 seconds strides the other day with Pace 2 and it was more annoying on the way down when resting in between than up in speed so to say. But, I've seen same on other brands as well. It's sometimes somewhat slower on coros, not by that much and not all the time.
Amazing content , Just a question , i know you are testing New Suunto race S , how do you compare both ? which one is better in terms of mainly running ? I do like offline maps though but its not mandatory to have those.
They’re both great and I’ll have a review out in the next few weeks but the Suunto Race S seems like a step up from the Coros Pace 3. It does cost a bit more. 🤷🏻♂️
Hi Matt, Nice review. Same question I asked about the Suunto Race, what pool length does the watch support in terms of custom sizes? Does it support a pool length of 15 m? Appreciate your input...
Here's the details on what COROS supports: support.coros.com/hc/en-us/articles/360040257591-Pool-Swim It's pretty similar to a Suunto watch. 15m would be a custom distance.
Thank's for your review. I wanna switch my Apple Watch SE2 . Coros pace 3 will be a good choice to do it or better to buy Garmin? I just want to track my marathon prep without any music, notification etc. One more question is how they are working with intervals running?
The Coros Pace 3 would be a good choice. As I mention in this video, I would look at the Garmin FR 165 as well. It's excellent and I should have a review video out for it in about a week or so. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
New to coros. Look go get a watch for upping my running. Do you recommend coros pace 3 or apex 2 (non pro) i have small wrists. I love accuracy and durability
Yeah, you can set it up to auto update your activities to Strava within the smart phone app. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
I’ve not tested the Samsung Watch 7 but my gut feeling is that the Pace 3 is going to be geared more towards running and the Samsung will aim to be more of a smarter smart watch. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
I need a watch for military training for running and swimming, and I would appreciate it if I had the option to play music and download offline maps. Do you have another watch with these options and features? (with priority at least money)
That's a hard one. Typically if you're looking for offline maps, music and durability (military grade) it ends up being pretty expensive. I recently reviewed the Suunto watch which might be worth looking at.
My Coros 2 is only a little over 2 years old and the battery is crap. It currently lasts about 4 days. Coros support told me that this is normal for lithium Ion batteries. Are they correct? Can I expect to buy a Coros Pace 3 and then replace every 2.1 years?
Sadly yes. After two years lithium ion batteries start to struggle. Some times you get lucky and they last longer. There are all sorts of tricks to make them last longer but I wouldn’t guarantee that the Pace 3 would be any better. Sorry buddy.
I got an update on Aug 7. My battery is back up to 7 days. So, even though they deny it... Coros update is likely the cause of my initial battery issue. On the plus side, they were able to fix it somewhat
been considering this watch fir a few weeks. i’ve been running w/ the apple watch ultra v1 for the last year and the gps has been iffy at best. I’ve been using the runna app for marathon training and measuring runs on my watch has consistently been off my partners wahoo watch by .25 mile at times. is it worth the adding to the collection to compare the two?
I’d be suspicious of the Wahoo watch. I’d look for any abnormalities with the actual GPS tracks. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Hey i am confused between coros pace 3 and forerunner 255. Now since 255 is high on budget but during sale the price is manageable. So Just for running perspective which one would you pick?
I'm seeing the 255 for about $315 here in the states. (amzn.to/4bO3Vrq) I think I'd pick the 255. It's extremely accurate and has a few more stats and features when compared to the Pace 3. Both are great devices. Tricky call.
The FR 265 is a significantly nicer device. I'd say the FR 165 is a more comparable device. Currently I'm not seeing any huge deals on the 265. I see 7% off: amzn.to/4dXfxLi But it's a very nice device.
I agree and I like that idea. I also think these will be popular color options. I've asked the high school kids that I coach and they seem to like the brighter colors. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Hi Matt, great video as usual. I'm actually torn between white or black option for the pace 3, as you mentioned the white version has some discoloration, are you referring to the band or the actual white part of the watch? thanks
Hi Matt. Beautiful review! Between this and FR 255 - I’m completely confused. I’m somewhere between beginner and intermediate runner, training for my first marathon, and got a fair bit of half marathons lined up this year. I always carry my phone while running, and currently have an Apple Watch SE. I’m looking to switch that for either the Coros or the FR 255. What would you recommend? Thanks Rohan
*deep things incoming* So strange how world and life works. I got a sad news yesterday, that I need to stop running high volume, doing ultras etc due to a chronical illness that can/will kill me at some point. And the first night after, I dream that I was given this watch by a couple of friends on my birthday to cheer me up. My wife got super upset 😂"You are not supposed to run far anymore!!" And I just threw away my smartwatch straight away and put the Pace 3 on. Unfortunately I woke up before I got to do any training with it 🤣 And then I got to work in the morning and saw your video. Haha. Hilarious and spooky at the same time 😍
Best of luck with the health stuff going on. Hopefully there is another passion project that you can dive into. I’m a bit gutted that your doctors don’t want you to run as much.
Yes, but this watch isn’t able to respond to calls or notifications directly on the device. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
@@Mrjoysol - In my opinion both the GPS and HR sensors are better on the 955. The 955 will also take more frequent HR readings throughout the day and has a morning report. I love the COROS Pace 3 but the 955 is a significantly better watch which is why it typically costs $5-600.
I have a 165 review coming up in another week or so. It's really great. I'd probably go that way unless you think you need the triathlon mode. I'd also look at the Garmin Forerunner 255 which is on sale right now: amzn.to/3Ks9IHX
@@aswin0736 - The 255 is an awesome option. I also saw that sale price. I guess it just depends on if you’re ok with the MIP screen or if you want the AMOLED option.
Seems ok. I've requested COROS change some things for swimming. They're aware of it. I'd love to see a drill mode for kick sets or drill sets. But if you don't care about those sorts of things, you'll love this for swimming. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
@@mlegrandthanks for the response! so other than kick drills it works okay for typical laps? what is the feature set like in the middle of the workout? does it show HR, pace/swolf fields etc? would love a swimming-focused review of both this and similar priced models like FR165/applewatchSE, they seem to be lacking elsewhere online/on youtube.
@@enezikhalid502 - I've made a few swim focussed reviews but sadly, they don't seem super popular. I prefer the way that Garmin does swimming but all of these brands will end up missing or mixing up a lap here or there. Here's the link to the details about COROS specifically: support.coros.com/hc/en-us/articles/360040257591-Pool-Swim It should cover the things you're hoping to see. 👍
Whoops. I really don't like to think of my self as advertising for these devices. I really try to provided independent reviews. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Maaaaaan that intro was smooth! Awesome review as always, Matt!
Glad you liked it! I love trying to come up with something creative to start these videos off. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Yeah, that transition was bananas. I had to go back and watch it again. 👏

Wow, thank you. Glad you like them!
He's really quite good at this!
I'd still probably want a screen protector. That'd be the same for the FR 255 but so far mine don't have many scratches that I can see. 👌
@@arnoldovirgen8679 - This might need a separate thread for discussion but I'd recommend the Pace 3 over the Pace 2.
This is awesome feedback Miles. Thanks for posting this. 👌
Happy Pace 3 user here, thank you for this review brother. Been using the Pace 3 for quite a while now and coming from someone who hates charging their watch regularly the battery life has been solid for me. I also like how the app is user-friendly and how the metric is easy to understand.
It’s a solid option for people. Thanks for posting your feedback here! 👌
Super stellar review as always, man. Super stellar. The track to watch band was so good - running shots in forest - macro work - even the large "100" and small little 'days' in the corner was great

Maybe I’m doing something a little different 🤷🏻♂️
Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it.
Bro the quality of this review is on another level

This was such a phenomenal review
Wow, thank you Bailey!
I’m guessing there are things you’ll miss (like smart features) and other parts of the Pace that you’ll love (like battery life)

Well . . 🤔

What color did you snag? I think you'll really like this watch. It's a great option at a great price. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
@@mlegrand black nylon. Super excited to receive it.
While COROS is known for its running watches, the triathlon mode seems incomplete without advanced swimming features. Swim training, especially drills, is crucial for triathletes. Without these, the watch isn't appealing to serious swimmers/Triathletes. (in my opinion)
COROS's goal to attract triathletes is great. But to reach this group, the watch needs to work well for all three sports: running, swimming, and cycling. A running watch with a triathlon mode isn't enough. So at the moment I would definitely not recommend this watch to triathletes. Better options would be Garmin FR 255 or more premium the 265
I agree. I know that COROS is very aware of the missing drill mode from their swimming activity profile. I expect that they’ll eventually get to it. 🤞
@@mlegrand Well they are saying this since years so I dont know...Im not a programmer but It looks like a pretty simple thing to do...

I just realized something. Coros has their R&D and HRM departments in China. I’m wondering what they’re doing with all the data they’re storing?

Yeah, we survived some hard times. 😆
And in this case i would go for the Suunto Race S
Good idea?
I wonder why none of these Pace reviews talk about how the watch fits in with your existing fitness ecosystem. Does it sync well with my platform health app? How are notifications handled? Etc 🤷🏻♂️
Good point! Is your existing health app Strava or one of the millions of other options within the smart watch eco system? If it's Strava, it fits really well. It'll automatically upload all of your activity data after each run.
Is it possible if you can make an in-depth tutorial video for beginners how to use the watch? There's none so far in RUclips. Thank You 😊
COROS has their own RUclips channel which is probably the best place to really dig and and learn how to use their watch.
Hi Amy,
I was a long distance college runner also! 🤷♂️
My wife also gets to test a lot of running watches and lately she's been wearing the Garmin Venu 3 (video here: ruclips.net/video/Q7JfejqxJek/видео.htmlsi=Kjq4ef8fwTW5Q4Yz).
(another video: ruclips.net/video/Es5PO2ifwsQ/видео.htmlsi=IVJTWhTkdrlZAyPH)
Ultimately, I think you'll be really happy with any of these watches and I would recommend looking at some of the color options and styles to help guide your purchase.
Thanks.
I haven’t seen an option like that yet.
this Watch sounds great and I really want to buy it but there is one thing that I miss. I want my Watch for hiking and therefore I need (offline) navigation with a map shown on the watch.
I’d probably look at a Garmin for good mapping and navigation. Or maybe Suunto. The problem is it’s a big step up in price for mapping.
@@mlegrand yes the Price is the problem. Maybe the new Suunto Race s is the Perfect Watch for me. This Watch have offline navigation and is bot too expensive.

Wow, thank you so much!!!
very good review, love the aesthetics, the visual style you choose for this.
I’d believe that. There are some very good Garmin introductory watches. I’d look at the 166 in particular. Video here on this channel somewhere
The sarcasm at 13:49 cracked me up. 😂
@@romantrochanowski6107 - I watch a lot of pixel peeping camera videos. This analogy is so true. 😂
@mlegrand and @everyone - Does the white plastic on the Pace 3 watch body itself discolor over time/use?
If you wanted to the opposite of the AWU2 you could probably find something like a Garmin Enduro 2 at a good discount: amzn.to/3CYfXD1

Thanks for another great video.
You bet. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
The battery connector is normally so difficult to insert and remove

@@floppybird That's a hard call. I'd guess the 255 but who knows. They're all pretty similar when it comes to durability.

Thanks a lot !
In your opinion, which performs better between Garmin Instinct 2S and Coros Pace 3 ? Hope to hear back from you ! thanks!

Thanks for a great detailed video, which is also fun to watch! How is the heart rate accuracy of this watch while swimming?
I typically don't see great heart rate data from any watch while swimming. It's really hard for these algorithms to parse out all of the noise from a swim stroke. I do feel like it's accurate when you get to the wall after a hard rep within a set. So I think it's nice to glance at that info at time. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
I have the Garmin 745 and I have to charge it 2 times per week.
As these lithium ion batteries get older they really start to give out. I typically start to see issues after about 2 years. My older brother just upgraded from the Garmin 745 to the 265 which is a pretty amazing watch. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Which would you prefer: the Forerunner 955 or the Coros Pace 3? I don’t need mapping; I just need a running watch with training readiness/power
Personally, I'd go for the 955. But the Pace 3 is a lot more affordable. Overall the 955 is a significantly nicer watch. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
@mlegrand, thank you for your prompt response. But for my understanding, they are measuring the same data, even running power from your wrist.
Not really. Here's what COROS has to say about it: support.coros.com/hc/en-us/articles/360058058531-Do-COROS-watches-offer-location-sharing-services
2 weeks and 10 days…are you only using the watch for during workouts? Or do you use it all day, for sleep tracking, stress monitoring, etc.?
What kind of numbers are you seeing? Are there any settings that you've changed? In particular the backlight might be triggering frequently and killing your battery life?
Man im wondering when the track edition is going to restock
I like it. But I also like the new retro editions. 🤷🏻♂️
Im not a runner but always have the liking for wanting a coros. At least for the sake of heart rate, sleep analysis, recovery and strength and hiit workouts. Do you think i should go for it?
Yeah! Go for it! This is a fantastic watch for the price. Let me know what you think if you end up picking one up. 👌
@@mlegrand Thanks so much to take time to reply and give me your thought. It is really helpful.
@@mlegrand 100%, Coros should allow more customisation for low-usage scenarios. Not everyone is a power user.
Good call. And I'm seeing the 255 on sale for $250. That's a hell of a deal: amzn.to/4dYHnqg
Is the pace laggy that much?like 10-20 seconds? Because if so, it basically could destroy my 30s interval session.
@@khueta2804 Well, I had pace laggy issue even on my easy run let alone speed work. I own 4 Coros watch from Apex42 , Apex46 , Apex Pro & Apex 2 . All have same issue. End up switch back to Garmin 255.
@@khueta2804 I had an pace issue on easy run let alone speed work.
@@mlegrand hey matt, so i went with coros pace 3 based on your reviews.
you are a life saver.
Loving my first day with it.
@@farulkalra - Awesome! It's a great device. Hope you enjoy it!
Hi Matt,
Nice review. Same question I asked about the Suunto Race, what pool length does the watch support in terms of custom sizes? Does it support a pool length of 15 m? Appreciate your input...
Here's the details on what COROS supports: support.coros.com/hc/en-us/articles/360040257591-Pool-Swim
It's pretty similar to a Suunto watch. 15m would be a custom distance.
@@mlegrand many thanks...
@@mlegrand One more question sir. Garmin FR 165 better than FR255? I'm so confused what what should i buy...
@@yi8031 - The 255 has a few more features but not as sharp of a screen. If you’re mostly running, either would be perfectly fine.
@@yi8031 I do have a Garmin FR 165 video coming up this next week!
@@mlegrand i am already waiting for this!
The bands are $9 on amazon instead of $29 on the website
Smart find!!! Are they COROS bands?
New to coros. Look go get a watch for upping my running. Do you recommend coros pace 3 or apex 2 (non pro) i have small wrists. I love accuracy and durability
I’d probably lean toward saving some money and getting the Pace 3.
Great vid man! Does anyone know if you can connect strava to it?
Yeah, you can set it up to auto update your activities to Strava within the smart phone app. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
just want to know your thoughts between coros pace 3 vs samsung watch 7. thank you.
@@mlegrand thank you for the reply. in short, it sounds like I should return it and get the coros pace 3 for my second watch? 😂😂
@@coxii8757 - Wait, if you have the option to return the Wahoo Rival and it’s showing bad data. That might be ideal. 👌
Great video, Matt! how do you think this compares to the polar pacer series?
Personally, I think it's better than the Polar Pacer watch. Thanks for the kind words about the video Umreen!
@@mlegrand Thank you
Pace 3 or Forerunner 265? love your videos.
The FR 265 is a significantly nicer device. I'd say the FR 165 is a more comparable device. Currently I'm not seeing any huge deals on the 265. I see 7% off: amzn.to/4dXfxLi But it's a very nice device.
if you look for a cheaper but better option instead of the Pace 3 then take a look at the forerunner 255
What you think about the pace lag?
It's noticeable but it hasn't bugged me too much personally. I think it'll depend on if/how you do speed workouts away from the track.
@@mlegrand I ran with the watch twice and i want it to work so well but the pace lag is what unfortunately made me go back to my garmin.
So would you recommend the pace 3 or Apex 2??
Between those two? I’d vote for saving money and getting the Pace 3.
i think the retro pack should be called the punchy pack due to its colour. like always nice video and review matt
I agree and I like that idea. I also think these will be popular color options. I've asked the high school kids that I coach and they seem to like the brighter colors. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Hi Matt, great video as usual. I'm actually torn between white or black option for the pace 3, as you mentioned the white version has some discoloration, are you referring to the band or the actual white part of the watch? thanks
Just the nylon band in my experience. Best of luck Ian!
forerunner 255 or coros pace 3?
That's a tricky call. I think I'd go 255 which has been on mega sale lately. It's really good.
Thanks

@@mlegrand Thanks for your prompt reply!
@@mlegrand Thanks Matt! All the best your way as well! :)
Can I get notifications vibrations for call and sms?
Yes, but this watch isn’t able to respond to calls or notifications directly on the device. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Does coros have media control of music on your phone?
No it doesn’t control music on your smart phone. Only the mp3s that on the device.
it's worth spending extra $140 for the fr955?
Probably. That is a very nice device. It also depends on how much you value some of the extra features. The 955 has very nice mapping and golf. ⛳️
@@mlegrand and what about GPS, altimeter and HR sensor? It's really better?
@@Mrjoysol - In my opinion both the GPS and HR sensors are better on the 955. The 955 will also take more frequent HR readings throughout the day and has a morning report. I love the COROS Pace 3 but the 955 is a significantly better watch which is why it typically costs $5-600.
hello i am new to these watches, i do only running and some gym session addition to this i play football.. which one is best for me coros or FR165
I have a 165 review coming up in another week or so. It's really great. I'd probably go that way unless you think you need the triathlon mode. I'd also look at the Garmin Forerunner 255 which is on sale right now: amzn.to/3Ks9IHX

how does it fare for indoor pool swimming?
Seems ok. I've requested COROS change some things for swimming. They're aware of it. I'd love to see a drill mode for kick sets or drill sets.
