    Thanks for the review. The elevate 4 sensor on my Epix 2 is pretty good overall. But when doing interval lap swimming and running interval sprints, the smoothing and averaging algorithm could definitely use some work. I'll be curious to see peoples thoughts on how the elevate 5 sensor keeps up during interval training overall.

      It's been very hard for me to distinguish the true benefits of the newer HR sensor. I'm sure it's better but it's hard to see it clearly. Hey Matt! Enjoyed the laid-back style of the video, thanks for that! Got myself a regular Epix for (considerably) cheap and sold my Fenix after a month. You can't look at MIP displays any more after wearing this. The AOD does a fantastic job and is tweakable to the situation. I especially enjoy the redshsiftt mode activation via hotkey, its one movement whenever it's convenient. I am so sold on the watch, thanks for your perspective on the comparison. For now this is my go-to for the next foreseeable future.
    The only thing that I am kinda missing is the flashlight, though. It's not as bad as I NEED to upgrade. but should the new models also approach the 500-ish price range I might add the flashlight. But that's likely a story for next year.

    Just ordered this watch. I also have a Whoop. I wish Garmin made a small sensor that I could use for my Brazilian Jiu Jitsu training. If there was a small sensor I could wear (like the Whoop and it's arm band) - I would probably switch to Garmin full time...

      Yes, that would be great. I wonder if Garmin will ever make something like that happen. You could try a heart rate chest strap that you start with your watch and then sync it to your watch afterwards. I'd just worry about it getting ripped off during Jiu Jitsu. 🤔

    A lot of ppl dont quite really know what the flash light is actually for - its primarily used for night running purpose, where when your hands are moving up and down during a run, this alerts on coming cars heading towards you on a lowly litted road. Its a good addition from Garmin when they decide to have this added after the launch of their previous fenix 7 a year ago.
    One thing to note on the new Epix & Fenix Pro series - the new elevate 5 optical heard rate "does support" the ECG capability, a feature Garmin launch for their Venu 2 series, though Garmin cannot announce it directly to consumers until FDA gives the green light. A real game changer and also upping the ante to Apple when they are expected to launch the revised version of their Ultra in September.

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  Год назад

      I have this feeling that Apple's Ultra update will be minor for this round but who knows. 🤷‍♂️ I agree. It looks like the new Elevate 5 will be ECG compatible when regulations get approved country by country. The flashlight is amazing. It's surprisingly useful. I don't ever use it for running but just having a little flashlight on your wrist at night or early morning is fantastic. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I would say that the AWU is a smarter smart watch and is very capable when it comes to running. There are things missing when it comes to cycling and maybe swimming but it's a functional triathlon watch. Garmin watches just tend to be a bit better suited for those endurance activities. On this new watch in particular, I love the new flashlight. I think the new optical heart rate sensor is a wash. Both Apple and Garmin do a great job there.

    Great video and felt almost like a cinema at some points in this video :)
    Bought my Epix 2 in Feb 2023 right before the 965 came out - bit of a bummer. Now the Epix pro - with improved battery life (51mm) and the bigger and cirka 10% higher resolution screen (around 460x460 px @ 1.4 inches) makes a possible reason to upgrade. But in Denmark the price is 20% more expensive than the epix gen 2. So 51 mm Pro is actually more expensive than the previous generation by more than 250 USD over here, rather than 100 USD. I can't justify the purchase cos of the money - as the Epix gen 2 was already v. expensive. I would like to keep this watch for the next 4-5 years and will enjoy the addition of basketball and such to my Epix gen 2 soon :)

MIP display offers real always-on and you don't get it overheating and draining your battery in burning sun as AMOLED watches do.
