One of the most difficult and most beautiful pieces for choir, so difficult to perform live, and you did it masterful. Bravo BBC singers for a magnificent rendition full of emotion and power
There are so many beautiful moments in this, but I have to note some unwelcome wobble and stridency with louder notes. Also, too many low pitches overpowered by the upper voices. Yes, Poulenc sometimes gives wonky dynamic markings - e.g., basses can't sing loud at the bottom of the clef - but that's where a conscientious choral conductor has to step in and make adjustments.
This is possibly the ultimate performance of this piece. Every entry is perfect, the emotional range, from bitter resignation to outrageous defiance is rendered with absolute conviction. Eluard's poems are given radiant life through Poulenc's exquisite setting. Thank you to Simon Rattle and the BBC singers.
