Excellent expression. Poulenc's precision about durations makes this Kyrie a little dragging, but the Gloria is a treat, with powerful basses and the right touch of reverb to save both the written staccati and the overall harmonic progression. The "Sanctus" on the other hand flows slghtly more "allant" than 120bpm giving a more angelic feel to the soundscape. The hosannas are my favourite moments, and they were laid so well, so perfectly in time, so ff without being fff, so balanced in the extreme of the range, that I was in awe. The "Agnus Dei" requires a perfect control in the dynamics and here it sound peaceful and so peaceful and intimate that you hold your rbeath while listening. A great experience, I wish I could listen to this choir live: come to Italy!

I have never heard the Kyrie of this mass so beautifully sung. Everything about the whole performance is dignified and sensitive. The choir is wonderful and sings this wonderful music exceptionally well, picking out Poulenc's demanding harmonies changes of key and tempo. Bravo

Jeremy Munro Tenebrae sing it really well, but I don’t think their performance is on RUclips.

The NCC recorded two separate CDs of Poulenc's a cappella choral music under Eric Ericson, one devoted to his secular music and the other to his sacred music (from which this performance is taken). These were later re-issued as a 2CD set (Globe), with full texts & English translations. An indispensable set for anyone who loves Poulenc's music. Try to find it if you can -- it has a B&W photo of an old manual typewriter on the cover... and if you look closely, there's one word on the otherwise blank sheet of paper: LIBERTÉ ! (the last, triumphant cry in Figure Humaine). :-)

    Sublime, beautiful, profoundly Catholic.

Absolutely beautiful! This is such a hard piece to sing technically and yet you are able to do it so well that the warmth and emotion comes through.

This is the reason I like 20th century choral composition. Classic form, daring harmonies. God is glorified!
