I have some backseat time in our Canadian version as a young pup just joining the Airforce around early 80’s. Flew as a target for our F101 Voodoos to intercept. As I watched you building my eyes went to that “well used” square of foam on your table, guessing it would speak of countless models you have put together while the T-Bird waited. Ohhhhh, watched your tips on the F18 80mm and will do my setup as per. I just got my FMS version yesterday shipped from China. I live retired in Thailand and look forward to flying it soon. Regards in Cali.
What a great video. You did a great job showing people how to turn a PNP model into a great looking scale model and also you included a lot of pointers on material you used to do that. Thanks for sharing!!! Great work on converting the PNP model to such a beautiful scale model. Can't wait to see the finished paint scheme.
SO nice! Great to see this model take to the skies over middle Tennessee, thanks for sharing all the upgrades and work that went into this Chris. Looking forward to seeing her all dressed up!!
Not only beautiful craftsmanship, but you brought it back in one piece. I look forward to seeing the finished product. Roughly how much weight is being added by the paint?
Sweeeeet! Man thise speed brakes were way better than the ones on mine hahaha. Weird that the fan never seemed to clean up like mine did. You definately have to use energy management and fly in a scale manner to get the most out of it. Looking forward to the next vid!
It whistles, howls, and whooshes! I need to get mine out, fix some damage, and get it flying again. The tip tanks on a T-33 look so great when you roll it. Brent is "The Man". After you, of course..
I have a T-33 that has been modified with lights and cockpit changes. However, your mods are awesome! This is such a great model to work with. Great video!
I was wondering if you ever use microballoons with epoxy or paint when prepping a foamy for polycrylic? I just got my Avios Super Tacano and am starting to prep it. I don’t know if I just got a less than stellar quality one but I have a lot of voids to fill. I don’t want to do a complete repaint.
I just use the sherwinn williams spackle for filling damage or imperfections and then coat it with a couple coats of poly before primer/paint. It’s really fine, so will give you a nice surface for paint, especially once sealed.
Chris, I would love to see a series that does an ultra-deep-dive into your refinishing process. A few years back I used your technique and materials an ended up with a plane that, while beautiful, was so heavy it couldn’t take off. Clearly, I was doing something wrong. The Tomcat refinish videos were great, but they still lacked a bit of detail on number of coats, amount of filler, that sort of thing. Thanks!
What model was it? Were you flying from grass by chance? Truth be told, I’ve found most of the models I’ve done this with tend to fly better actually, so I’m a bit surprised by what you’re saying as that has never been my experience. I don’t necessarily have a set number on things, I just tend to do what’s needed to get the finish I’m looking for. So, filler as needed to get it filled, poly coats is between 3-6 and then primer as needed sanding between coats to get the desired smoothness. I have been doing some exclusive channel members content that does dive deeper into this stuff, so maybe that might help? I do at least one masterclass video per month as a part of that. One of the recent ones talked about finish materials, etc on this T33 and I plan to talk more about the refinish and paint process in the next. Btw, have you seen my book? I talk a lot about it in there too: www.artofscalemodeling.com
I have a seagull models p47 that I haven't assemble yet, but I would like try some of your paneling and weathering techniques, would that be better to do it after or before the assembly and mounting everything on? Thanks for all your videos, you are awesome!
Thanks for the great tutorial Geek Master 👍 A couple of questions. I couldn’t see the brand of primer your using and what grit do you sand with between coats ? Would that Rustoleum clear be a good finish to spray over all foam unpainted aircraft as a protectant/ sealer ?
I’m using duplicolor filler primer and sanding with 180 grit for most things. The rustoleum clear is a clear coat only meant for sealing paint, etc. so, I’m not sure spraying it over foam bare foam will do much truthfully. Are you looking for something to help with paint adhesion on bare foam?
@@Thercgeek I use Minwax on my foam planes as a surface finish to give some protection from wear and tear and to seal in the decals. It is so expensive here in Australia at $70 a can. I can buy Rustoleum for $17. I was looking for a cheaper option to do the same job.
WOOOOOO. This is so cool! So question, are you ever nervous of the controllers and reliability? i notice the testing of the radio link and was curious if you had a big preflight check for it all. Nice videos as always!
Usually not, but it is a reality that can happen. In light of the loss of my T28, I spent extra time vetting out the radio on this one just to be extra sure.
alittle tip next time put some some talcum powder in the minwax make it like a slurry,,sort of thick but will still drip a little its an ol modelers trick used on balsa also but works good on foam l did this on my freewing al37 converted to a tanker and it work good you can also use in on lite fiberglass cloth, sands good.
" In light of recent events" yeah glad to see you back on the horse. Yeah 50's navy jets you got to have a gold helmet....i have one on my FJ-1 Fury. Cant wait to see it all dolled up. Take care and keep these vids coming.
Even though I can hear the electric motor whine(I mean of course we can)...that exhaust sound...wow! It really has a nice turbine exhaust sound. All that without jet fuel and explosion if crashed....and a needed waiver.😉
You use what you got man. Plus, the reality is issues can arise with any system out there, but sure some protocols are better and have better redundancy which I will explore when I have the time to.
I understand! Each one chooses and uses what they have and/or prefer! I would leave Spektrum after the T28, that would be my choice! Huge loss there! The video bellow is great! Shows that Spektrum and Futaba are questionable and probably stopped their development (my opinion) ruclips.net/video/LargnWPSX04/видео.htmlsi=_z7ELn6JCKJtAPSy
Addendum- Is the video music the same that you're listening to?🤔🤣 Or do you have some Judas Priest, Suicidal Tendencies, or Lovebites playing in those buds? (Hint, check out Lovebites🤯❤)
Wow Chris! I usually enjoy your videos, but you've been getting sloppy lately. The " slop I'm speaking of is no dust or vapor mask and no safety glasses. You are setting an example to hundreds of newbie modelers and I'm sorry, it's the wrong example. Please do better!

Thank you very much!
What in the heck is a PNP model? Isn't this just a molded foam ARF?
It started out that way, yes. PNP just simply means plug ‘n play where it just requires adding a receiver to go fly.
Thanks for doing this....I appreciate your efforts to teach the process of your modification...thanks buddy.
You bet, Thanks for watching! 😊
Amazing craftmanship, as always! I can't wait for the next episode!!!
Thanks so much!

Thanks my friend!
Sounds amazing! Must have been difficult with orientation with it all primed grey against a grey Sky. Testament to a great pilot mate!!
Thank you! It wasn’t too bad, but there were a couple times the airplane actually started to fade into the fog. 😆
Looking forward to the final result. Congrats on the maiden!

Such a cool jet!!
congrats!
Just got done building the RBCkits T33 90mm that I won at JetJam and it flys beautiful
Very cool!!

Very cool man! The T-33 is such a classic design, so sweet 😊
Get the FreeWing 12 blade 80mm EDF!! Electric brakes also!
Cool video! It did seem to disappear a bit in those gray skies. Looking forward to the paint videos…
It kind of did. 😆
I had one of these in my high school.
Super sweet!!!!

Thanks! It’s just the stock freewing fan that came with the model when it was first introduced.

I actually haven’t weighed it. Batter is a roaring top 6s 6250mah pack.

Gonna be a Navy TV-2. 😊
Should look great 👍
I see you have an Evader jet hung up on the wall behind you. Have you modified the fan or is it still original. Mine needs a new fan. Any suggestions.
Evader jet? I’m actually not sure which you’re referencing. Have a link?

I did all of the 3d printing.

I’m usually listening to podcasts generally. Looked up lovebites, they’ve got a cool sound!
the fan was choked... and looked underpowered .. otherwise.. seems to be flying a lot better
A little bit, yeah. The air was pretty thick too, so that didn’t help. Will be interesting on a warmer day if there’s much difference.

Right, which was started 6 years ago. 😆
