    The plastic modelers are like waitt you call that weathering, hold my beer. Nice job on this, we don’t see enough RC models weathered at all. This is nicely done and is not over the top at all.

    • @Thercgeek
      @Thercgeek  Месяц назад +2

      Thanks! 😆 yeah, it’s really easy to overdo the weathering, especially certain techniques. As it is, some of it came out heavier than I wanted based on the acrylic paint I used for the shading.

    Oh man, Callie Graphics, that brings me back! I was building and kitting balsa scale models about 20 years ago and she would do all my graphics. What a gem, she does the best work, amazing she's still at it.

    The T-33 is absolutely my favorite jet! Every R/C model of this thing flies like it's on rails. Might be because of the drop tanks or something but this plane will always be no.1 in my book!

  • @JN24185
    @JN24185 29 дней назад

    It amuses me that some folks like the “weathered” look. Personally I like my planes like I like my cars, to look, brand spanking new! To each their own I guess! All that being said, Chris, this is a work of art my friend. Just absolutely stunning.

    • @Thercgeek
      @Thercgeek  28 дней назад

      Thanks for the kind words! As you say, to each their own on the finish. That’s the beauty of customization, you can craft it into whatever your vision is. My goal is just to make something that simulates the full scale as much as possible in miniature. 😆

    That's an eye-popping beautiful paint job, Chris! I've had a couple cans, from that brand AND Behr, take up to 2 days to fully dry to the touch. It's not typical. But, I've had it. Didn't matter if i used it on a spinner, or fuse or wing.
    They just dont make rattle cans like they used to. 😊
    Beautiful model! Cant wait to see her buttering up the strip at your field soon 👍

    Too backoff the pencil lines you could also try an artists kneeded eraser, you might need to touch it to something like jeans so it isn't full tacky but it would allow you to take off some of the pencil if it's too dark.

    For the Nose layout it might help if you put a temp grid on the nose so you have some reference points for the curve to be compared too.

    • @Thercgeek
      @Thercgeek  Месяц назад

      I did make a nose template and you can kind of see it as I was taping. Even still, needed some tweaking to get it to look symmetrical from the front. That was the hardest part.

  • @SlowFlyer85
    @SlowFlyer85 Месяц назад +1

    Awesome job looks great, question when you did the sanding in the beginning you put clear coat over the model then shoot your main colors I always just clear coat at the end of the project great video😊👍👍👍

    • @Thercgeek
      @Thercgeek  Месяц назад +1

      I didn’t clear coat the primer. That was just water for wet sanding. I did need to clear coat the panel lines though to protect them. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have lasted through the weathering process and also would have smeared a bunch while handling. When I apply clear and any point, it’s just a light dusting, never heavy.

      The model has already flown perfectly with the gear I’ve got. I do have a new radio to test, but haven’t found the time to get it flown in anything yet. Not really the model to test a new system you’ve never used before especially when it’s already proven reliable in the model.

    • @Thercgeek
      @Thercgeek  Месяц назад

      Thanks! Never weighed it, so can’t say. My experience has been that the models fly better after a full refinish like this despite any weight gain. So, don’t really worry about it truthfully.

  • @Airsally
    @Airsally Месяц назад

    Another great vid Chris. Amazing all that masking didn’t pull paint from the EPO foam. Is that due to using wbpu to treat the foam before primer?

    • @Thercgeek
      @Thercgeek  Месяц назад

      Thanks! While the poly and primer does help stabilize things, it’s really more about the frog tape and cutting it down into smaller strips and de-tacking it before application. And then, ensuring it’s peels back over itself when lifting it up.

    Are all of the graphics done by Callie? I saw most already had a sticky backing, but the stars were water slide? thanks

    • @Thercgeek
      @Thercgeek  Месяц назад

      They are. For the stars and bars, I pulled the transfer tape up before applying them, sprayed windex on the surface and then applied them that way. The windex helps them to act like water slides and gives more time for placement. When happy with the placement, you press out the windex from underneath and let it evaporate out. Then, do a final press once everything’s dry. Helps reduce the chance of capturing air bubbles too.

    Although not the worst plane to see in the sky my eyes are asking for another (not silver) paint scheme. So I was planning to order decals for a Red Knight scheme from Callie. But now I will ask her if the decals she made for you are available too.
    BTW: I love to do touch & go´s and slowly moved the CG more backwards. I ended up 15 mm behind stock with reduced throws which felt perfect for me.
