    I took devices away from my son, we noticed a lot of mood swings when he had sensory available to him in his hands, tablet, phone or Switch, we are getting him a PC for his room like Craig. So it is stationary and he doesn't get wound up, unfortunately our boys meltdown starts out like that and then the hand biting begins. It does look like overload, if l take our lad too many places he is very unhappy. Not easy, thank you for helping your viewers see this side of ASD. The fruit you purchased is called cactus pear. Very popular in Greece as well where my parents were born. You eat the seeds and just go with it, do not try to remove them, it’s not possible..lol.. It does have a refreshing flavor and as you say a bit like honeydew. Always tastes better when chilled. Slice off the ends and then make a slice down the peel and roll the peel away. Enjoy.

I'm pretty sure you all went back and forth and deciding to show this video but it's very informative and I'm glad that you want this to be a learning/formative channel.... I think it might be his because of his upcoming trip, cuz I have a cousin that has autism and every time he knows a big trip or event is coming he gets very overly stimulated and hyper.... The same stems craig was doing, my cousin does too... You both handle the situation very well..God Bless

    Aww. It’s so hard seeing Craig disregulated like that. I hope he isn’t getting sick. Maybe he’s anxious about going to Florida. Have you ever tried offering him a heavy weighted blanket to wrap up in when he needs squeezes?
    I agree with Joe on autism being more prevalent just because it’s more recognized now. My great aunt worked in a state home where autistic kids were taken and left by their families. Many of them never even came back to visit. Autistics were locked away and never seen. And like he said, many kids who could function in society, were just pushed to conform or seen as the weird kids. My 25 year old son should absolutely have been diagnosed autistic. He had every red flag and received all the same therapies and help but autism just wasn’t recognized then unless the kids were very low functioning.

    • @irishcountrygirl78
      @irishcountrygirl78 11 месяцев назад +4

      I got my son a weighted blanket, he hated it as he felt it was controlling his movement 😂😂😂, it does work for some. For example my son gets like Craig if we are going somewhere on a trip, he over thinks it and he processes excitement as anger and overload. ASD l guess presents differently in each person.

    • @Java-D
      @Java-D 11 месяцев назад +2

      @@irishcountrygirl78 you’re right. Different people have different needs. My son likes to be squeezed and given big tight hugs so he also likes his weighted blankets.
      Maybe since Craig likes to do the squeezing he would prefer some firm or squishy stress balls. Something he can squeeze in the same way he’s using other people for.

    My son Anthony is a lot like Craig and he is 23 years old. We also had a normal two years of his life. When I took him to get his two year-old shots, they gave him six shots at the same time (which I was reluctant to do) but I believed the doctor that it would be OK. That evening he got such a bad fever and he was never the same again. He was tunnel visioned and would not look at us anymore. My beautiful son did not say another word until he was five years old and he has come along way since then, But I definitely think it was the vaccines and all the chemicals that we have been eating for the last 30 years. I even had genetic testing done prior to him being born. ❤❤ Every day we are blessed to have this extraordinary, talented, beautiful child who never seems to change. But he has taught me more than I will ever teach him in a lifetime.

    • @ourdailyview

      Thank you so much for sharing ❤️ our sons are definitely gifts. We are the lucky ones who get to experience so much more because we have them. I’ve been asked if I think Craig’s autism was caused by vaccines. I really don’t know. But both Joe and I do have cousins that we believe are on the spectrum. So it’s hard to say in our case. I have had the thought that it could be something environmental like chemicals.

    Thank you both for your insight about the rise in autism. As far as the definition of autism, I still don't understand what it means because there are videos on youtube that have descriptions which could sometimes apply to anyone. Neighborhoods and communities were much more tight knit in the 50s-80s. Kids with autism (really all kids) were forced to socialize and adapt better. Now with all the technology it’s easier to retreat and entertain oneself alone. That’s my take. There are definitely not more people with autism than there were 200 years ago.

    I think a lot of it is the fact they’ve discovered so much more of the spectrum. People still think Autism means nonverbal, or Rainman. And it can, but if you know one autistic person, you know ONE autistic person. Even if you know 100, the spectrum is so broad.
    I also agree it could be environmental, think of all the chemicals our kids encounter in their food, their clothing, shampoo etc etc.

    I noticed Craig drinks liquids very fast like my kiddo. I never knew this could affect medication and I agree that when my kiddo starts to feel sick they will get over stimulated. Then when my kiddo is sick they are so calm and easy going. I find my kiddo will talk more when sick. Yeah, I agree that my husbands side of the family def had undiagnosed Autism my mother in law for sure has it. I honestly didn't notice it until I spent close one on one time with her. I don't believe it was what I ate or medications or vaccines. I think it's all genetics and God's hand picking. I will say the Tylenol study did make me feel guilty for taking that per dr. orders but still as time has past I think it's genetics.

    Thank you again for another great video. Do you think there any similarities between Autism & Tourettes? My husband has a nephew with tourettes and he has a lot of the same stems. He tries to control his behavior and it's like he gets to a certain point and that's when it all boils over and you hear him almost grunting or growl. He has the facial twitches too. I find it all so interesting.

      Technically everyone has stims. If you shake your leg or foot, click a pen, play with your hair, it's all stimming to self soothe. 😊

    Craig, we had a jazzed-up day here too. Everybody was pretty 'off'. Tomorrow's another day, I just keep telling myself. He did such a good job reining it in and apologizing and distracting himself.

    When Craig gets like that do you think he didn't sleep well? Does he have a watch (like a Fitbit) to track his sleeping?
    Just a thought.
    Maybe like you guys mentioned, he is just excited for the big birthday trip 😊

    I'm around your ages. When I was growing up high functioning kids were labeled as bad or disruptive kids. Low functioning kids were put in homes or hidden away. It is more understood and out in the open now.

      I agree. Even when I was working at an elementary school in the early 90’s I saw kids labeled as behavior disorder that were likely high functioning autistic

    My thoughts are what you both have already said. He's very over stimulated for many reasons. Also have you changed his daily Med's? I'm thinking he's very wound up to go to Florida and I think you'll see him settle with his world once you get there.( Hopefully)

    Nancy, we used to make Doritos with pepperoni and cheese baked in the oven. It was a popular thing in the 80s, I'm not sure if you recall.
    Is Craig anxious about something? Or could it be pain, like a headache? I hate to suggest medication, but benadryl sometimes helps to calm

    • @angelaame6148
      @angelaame6148 11 месяцев назад +1

      I was thinking the same, my granddaughters pediatrician recommended a small dose of Benadryl when she is super anxious and unable to settle in to sleep...

    • @warroom17
      @warroom17 11 месяцев назад +1

      @angelaame6148 I noticed he was touching his nose yesterday and today, so I thought if he took benadryl it might help with anxiety and possibly the allergies, but I'm not sure if he has allergies. I know they sincerely want to understand what he's feeling, too, and I respect that.

    I wonder if he is getting sick, a cold? Wiping nose a lot and looking more tired. That really throws all of us off. That coupled with the trip could be the culprit. He did seem very restless.
