    I loved to see how honest you are with yourself. Use it, keep it and the rest can go.

      Thanks! It's **mostly** an honest reflection of what I wear. I may try to force myself to wear some of the eyeliners I kept to see if they're actually worth keeping, but for the most part I'm pretty happy with it!

      Vested Interests I gave up on making myself use stuff. Instead I found a group of girls and every 6 months we trade all of our loveless items. If I only stop buying new stuff and finish something I'm finally there.

    I like how you explain your thought process as you declutter. Really enjoyed your vid.

    Was hoping you'd post something like this!! Over the past year, my hoarding has gotten substantially better, but makeup products for me are the items that are still just so hard to part with!! This helps tons. It's super helpful that you always state each items' purpose or meaning when you keep them. Thanks! ❤

    • @VestedInterests
      @VestedInterests  6 лет назад +2

      Yay, I'm glad you liked it! There were several makeup items that I told myself I would try to use up and never did, so it felt very good to let those go.

    Love love love these videos. You always inspire me to look through all of my items again. We have to remember that decluttering is a process and not a "one and done" kind of thing. :)

      Thanks! At least for me, it makes a lot of sense to declutter in waves. My relationship with my possessions has definitely evolved over time, so something that survives the first wave may be something I decide to part with in the second. It's a continual process of editing for me, and I'm happy with that. Best of luck with your own journey!

    I have been doing the challenge since Oct 1 of 'donate for the month'. Oct 1-donate one thing, Oct 2 donate 2 things, etc. until the end of the month. I thought it would be impossible for me to do. I was so wrong! Your videos motivate me and give me ideas of things that I never thought of. Everything from clothes hangers, pens/markers, kitchen items, books, so so so much more. Thank you for being my muse!

    • @VestedInterests
      @VestedInterests  6 лет назад +1

      That's awesome! Good for you! Of course, please make sure you're donating or disposing of those items in the most responsible ways possible: ruclips.net/video/kVVqCAZ3ABU/видео.html

    What a great Way to declutter make-up.

      Thanks! To be honest, I think I used concealer when I filmed one video since doing this declutter, but I otherwise haven't touched it. I'll probably leave it be for a while, but next time I hope to be left with only the basics.

    I cleared out all my makeup about 15yrs ago.
    It was such a relief. I now only keep 1 eyeshadow 1 blush 1 foundation and a couple of lipsticks which live in the fridge and 1 jerico serum which I put on my wrinkles before foundation. If Im going out fancy in the evening I get my eyebrows done and my eyelashes tinted. It works well for me. 😊

    I don't even have makeup but seeing such a clear logical thought process behind your decluttering is so inspiring. The method can apply to any category, so seeing it in action even on something I don't have still motivates me to do more myself. Thanks for sharing

      Thanks! I mentioned this elsewhere, but, perhaps if I slept enough and drank enough water, I wouldn't have makeup either ;)

    I was just going through my makeup this week. I pulled out quite a few items to discard, but now you've inspired me to make another pass. I'm sure there are still several more items I could part with that I hardly ever use. Thanks for the motivation!

    • @VestedInterests
      @VestedInterests  6 лет назад +1

      Thanks! Time definitely changes how I feel about my possessions, so decluttering in waves has been very effectively for me. It could be the same for you! Best of luck!

      Thanks! Maybe with pass #3 I will work down to those core 8 items I actually use. In the meantime, I'm quite pleased with what I have left.

    • @freefallingintograce4634

      I love it that you do several passes with time in between, allowing things that weren't clear at first to become clear over time. I'm packing for a trip and just realized how travelling helps me pinpoint what I use the most as I only have room to take my absolute favourite items. Have a great Sunday!

  • @nicnothingnice
    @nicnothingnice 6 лет назад +1

    Great declutter! I have trouble with lip colors. I'm learning that I prefer lip pencils for color and clear gloss on top. Not as messy to me too 😊 TFS

    • @VestedInterests
      @VestedInterests  6 лет назад +2

      Clearly I'm not really even on the makeup wearing plane, but, if I had to wear one, I'd go with a lip pencil as well. Or a lip stain that's not a pencil, but they essentially do the same thing.

    Great video! Makeup is so hard for me to get rid of even though I dont use a lot of it on a daily basis there is still a lot of stuff I keep around for special occasions

    • @VestedInterests
      @VestedInterests  6 лет назад +1

      If makeup is a "special occasion only" thing for you, you could try coming up with one or two makeup looks that support your special occasion clothing (or are clothing agnostic) and part with the rest. Perhaps because I don't wear makeup often either, I've noticed that I feel a bit uncomfortable in strong looks or when I wear too much of it. Foundation/concealer/mascara is about the extend of my comfort zone, so it feels good to have pared down (almost) to that.

    Well done!
    I rarely wear makeup and everything I have fits in one small bag, but it is not nearly as fine tuned as yours. Lip glosses seem to be my down fall. I have 1 lip liner and 2 lipsticks.....but 6 lip glosses! They are generally the only makeup I wear.

    • @carriesaltsman5822
      @carriesaltsman5822 6 лет назад +1

      If you wear them keep them!! If that is the makeup item that brings you the most joy its absolutely okay to have more than one!! Remember its not about having the least amount of stuff but what brings you the most use and joy. Also lip glosses do expire in about 6-8 months so be wary of that! :)

    • @ritalynb7070
      @ritalynb7070 6 лет назад

      Carrie Ann Saltsman exactly....there is no way I can use them all before they expire (actually they are probably all older than 6-8 months).
      One of the things I have tried to be mindful of is my waste. Regardless of whether or not I enjoy an item, excess often leads to spoilage. Therefore I will be careful when repurchasing any makeup item to only buy what I can use up by the expiration date.

    • @VestedInterests
      @VestedInterests  6 лет назад +1

      I second Carrie. Everyone's needs and wants are different, and my makeup collection need not be a rubric for anyone as it (now, sort of) reflects my own relationship with makeup and no one else's. I love your "excess often leads to spoilage" statement, and it's very succinct and sounds a bit like a mantra, so I'm going to try to keep that phrase in my own back pocket. As for actual expirations, I personally tend to think expirations on products that are chock-full of preservatives is a bit of a ploy to encourage people to buy more frequently than is necessarily needed. Some of the products that I decluttered in this and my last makeup declutter were WELL past their expiration dates, and they seemed no different to me for age. I think it's a personal preference/judgement area.

    Loved the video, but more importantly: how did you clean that candle holder out? I end up making a boat load of mess every time I try and there’s still a residue.

    • @VestedInterests
      @VestedInterests  6 лет назад

      Put the candle in the freezer! If the wick isn't glued to the bottom and the glass is thick enough, you could turn it upside down (once frozen) and tap it on something padded and it theoretically could pop out on its own. The candles I've cleaned out, however, have had the wicks glued down, so I have an old butter knife that I use to crack the wax and it comes out pretty cleanly.
