Handbag Declutter + What's in My Bag

- It's taken me long enough, but I finally cleared out my handbag collection! Additionally, I share what I keep in my bag every day, in case you want to see the essential items that I have on hand at all times.
You are going to make someone's year finding that Kate Spade bag in a thrift shop. :) Also, I love that you didn't rationalize keeping it (or others) because they were 'nice' or 'expensive'--an easy trap to fall into, in my experience!
Same here! I'm trying to sell them on Poshmark and offer up with no success. Any tips?
A home tour would be cool! Love watching those😀
It's definitely on the list, I'm just waiting for the bathroom renovation to be completed, as it and my master bedroom are currently in shambles. A lot of people have been requesting that lately, but, if I do it now, I think you'd be disappointed to not see the whole thing, and my house is pretty small to begin with, so cutting off two rooms is significant. I'll make it as soon as I can though!
Can you do a paperwork /how you keep yours organized video? And digital declutter/organize on computer/phone? Also, a kitchen cupboard/pantry video. And finally what is your cleaning routine? A "Clean with me" video. Sorry so many haha but I want to see you do it all! Love your videos and your natural style. Your exude authenticity and it's very appealing! :)
Check out More Melody on youtube - she did a video called going paper light. It's mon my to-watch list too.
Thanks Sethrin Tatu! That's funny as I've watched all More Melody's videos haha We get around the same circles huh? ;)
Ooo, those are all good ideas! A bit of a spoiler since you asked: I keep all of my paperwork in a wall-mounted magazine/file holder. I do need to go through it though. Previously I've owned boxes and boxes of paperwork, so I can show all of that when I make a paperwork video. I'll add that and the others to my list! Also, what's a "cleaning routine"? I don't understand any of those words.
I'll have to check that out too!
lol well you sure hide the 'no-clean' well! Can't wait to see you do them all....and more! I have plenty more suggestions but don't want to bombard you all at once! ;) Please carry on...you're so great.
Beautiful bags you are donating & very generous of you!! I would love to see a home tour.
I’m obsessed with that white bag 😍
This should provide inspiration for my own handbag declutter. I don't have too many; about as many as you do...but there are two very old Coach bags that I can't seem to be able to part with. They are really small, really nice cross body bags still in great shape, but I don't use them anymore. However, every time I move them out of the closet for consideration to declutter, I get sentimental and back into the closet they go. I've done this about three times. Maybe after watching your video I can muster up the courage to bring them to the consignment shop!
I think I can relate to that. The two Kate Spade bags were purchases from years ago when I had just moved to a new place and started a new job, so they held some sentiment for me as well. With those bags and other things, I now try to take a step back and determine if there are other things that remind me of those times/experiences as well, and, if there are, it has made it easier for me to let go of "sentimental duplicates." There's a particular perfume that I wore non-stop during that time in my life as well, so that has become the thing that really takes me back and holds those memories, and I can let go of the other, physical things more easily. Hope that helps!
Thanks; that's an interesting way of looking at it. I will give it a try! :-)
I've wanted a pink cross body leather bag for so long. I wear a lot of navy blue and love navy and dark pink together. I'm going to seriously start looking for one now.
I looked at Nordstrom just now and I'm not seeing the bright pink I had. I think it was called "snap dragon." They do have some paler, spring pinks in stock now, but they might have brighter colors in the summer. Good luck! It was a very resilient bag.
Wow such lovely bags. Must admit I actually don’t know how many bags I have to declutter 🌸
Thanks! If your user name is any indication, you'll be down to just your favorites in no time!
Vested Interests oh I hope so as it’s taken me so long to reach that click moment (I have now) 🌸
Coach leather is my favorite. I carry the coach diaper bag for work stuff and airplane carry on. I also have a pair of coach pumps from maybe 7 years ago that I found at DSW on sale and was surprised that they lasted this long. The leather is soft and it molded to my foot. They are the most comfortable heels I've owned, except the heel is too high for me now. I bought the driving mocassins too. Thanks for sharing your handbags and what's in your bag😊
I used the one Coach bag I have for a season or so when I first got it, and you can't tell the leather has been touched at all. It's a pebble finish, but it wears like saffiano.
You’re funny. I like you. I’ve watched a ton of your videos. Liked seeing what’s in your bag.
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
I love bags so this video was super fun to watch. 😀
Thanks for taking my whats-in-your-bag suggestion! 😊
Of course! I've neglected clearing out my bags for a while, and, when you suggested a WIMB, that seemed like the perfect thing to give it a little more depth, so thank you! It was fun!
I absolutely love your personality! Just subscribed.
I enjoyed seeing your bags. Bags are one area I have decluttered but have also kept and collected more. I have about 45 pieces of clothing for the year, six shoes, but maybe 20 handbags. It's just a "thing." I do think you've inspired me to go back through and let some go.
Hahahahaha! I was not expecting to see "20 handbags" after "45 pieces of clothing." I'm not actually judging, we all have our "things," your handbags just really did not get the memo when you pared down the rest of your wardrobe. Do what makes you happy, and good luck if you decide to let some of them go!
I am determined to let some go. I'm gearing up for that. =)
I really like how you reason out loud each item whether for yes to keep or no to give away.
I did it for the video here, but I do think that talking out loud and making yourself reason in verbal words can be a great way to help make decisions!
Love love your videos! You might enjoy a couple zippered pouchs, in your purse, that can hold like items. I found some last year and wouldn't want to give them up.
I know some people who swear by them, and I used to have pouches myself, but I've found that I don't need them anymore. I think I stopped using them when my bags effectively became the size of the pouches themselves.
I've watched a few of your videos(I just found you on here a few days ago). This is the first video I've seen you with your short hair and holy moly you look BEAUTIFUL!!!!!
Thanks! It's already starting to grow out a bit, and I am tempted to cut it again. Maybe in a week or two.
Yay!!! I've been hoping you would do this video! ❤️
Funny. I just bought a Kate Spade purse for my daughter. She wasn’t interested in it...so it’s mine now😍
Nice! Glad it worked out one way or another!
I can't stand stuff loose in my bag like this, but I think it's just maybe my excuse to own cute pouches haha. I particularly love the ones from Bookhou. I'm curious why you don't sell your bags? They will be picked up by a reseller at the charity shop anyway, so may as well make the profit yourself. Or at least take them to Plato's Closet or something similar and treat yourself to a fancy dinner.
I agree about pouches! It's easier to pull out a pouch than rifle around through the rest of the bag, but I can see how it might not be an issue with a bag that small.
I've attempted to use pouches in the past, but I'd take out the item I needed from the pouch and then never put it back in because it was something I needed often, and then I'd completely forget about whatever else was in the pouch. And, to the other commenter's point, I don't really need them with a small bag. Do whatever helps you stay organized though. And: re: selling the bags: I've definitely got my money's worth from the bags I'm getting rid of, and I wouldn't sell them for more than $20/30 each. My local women's shelter or a charity shop can use them more than me.
Exactly, my bag basically IS my pouch.
If I didn't have my stuff in a pouch, I'd basically never use it because I'd be so frustrated with looking for it, even in a small bag. Funny how differently different people's brains work!
On a recent attempt to go through my handbag collection I counted 27 handbags plus two rucksacks. I managed to get rid of three. I'm not even a girlie girl, but do appreciate different colours/styles for different outfits and shoes/bags with a good colour match even if the fabric contrasts. As for what IN the small handbag I use daily, oh lordy... Watching your video I've decided to rotate the bags and see which ones I use, also chuck out all the crap!
I've never understood carrying around huge bags with lots of stuff. If I put even a few more items in my bag, it feels super heavy and uncomfortable to carry--but it's all relative. I'm sure what I keep in my bag seems excessive to some. Best of luck with your bag declutter and (interior) clean out! I'm sure your back will thank you.
Hmmm... in general it makes no sense to me either except I'm a server engineer, don't feel the need to look like one and I carry extra things like multitools, measruing tapes, network cables, hard drives and a torch lol. I do tend to use small bags that fit under my armpit (antitheft mechanism) although I could probably knock someone clean out with it. But it did get out of hand and I'm thankful for your motivation to clear out ;-)
Hot swapping all day errday!
Really like this video--it's inspiring me to declutter my bags as I'm currently on a years-long hunt for the "right" bag. BTW, my daughter (20 yo) was constantly misplacing her bike lock key until she put it on her key ring. She hasn't used the bike much in the past couple of years but we always know where the key is. Do you carry a wallet other than your card holder? What do you do for currency or change?
Ha! Good, I am vindicated for keeping my bike lock key on my regular keyring. I do not carry any other type of wallet. I can keep folded up cash in my cardholder when I carry cash, which isn't often. Any coin change (I'm in the US, so most of our money is paper) I usually toss into a tip jar so I don't have to carry it around with me.
I hear you on finding the right bag. That means I buy something along that journey I don't really love and I'm working on that in general. Great point though 😊
I would love to see a complete house tour!! Did you already do that? I'm pretty new here bing watching your videos now!
I'm currently in the middle of a bathroom renovation that has spilled out into my master bedroom, so I'm waiting for that to wrap up, but, once it's done, I will definitely make it. Hope you like the videos!
I keep my bike lock key on my main key ring as well. I have downsized majorly all over, but I'm still worried I will lose it somewhere random and not be able to lock my bike 😂
Also, great video! Thank you 🤗
And I can imagine that I'm the kind of person who actually needs frequent access to my bike lock. Couldn't be further from the truth, but I can pretend.
Oh this is so helpful, I'm terrible!
Thanks! I know bags can be difficult. For me, bags and shoes don't have the same "fit" issues that actual clothing can present, so they can be a little easier to accumulate sometimes. Good luck if you decide to pare down your collection!
Hi. Do you use a planner? If so, can you do a video on how you plan and organize.
I do not. In my video on New Year's Resolutions, I talk about how I set and work towards my goals though, and I do have a video on the "one task per day" method that I use as well. That's as close to a planner as I have.
I like ur talking really just the important
Your hair looks great! Are you still trying no poo? And for the next video how about decluttering cat stuff? It would be really helpful for me :)
Thanks! No "no poo" anymore. I've discovered that what I put on my hair AFTER I get out of the shower has more of an impact than anything I've excluded in the shower. Plus I looked like a grease ball real fast. OMG, cat stuff, that is such a good idea! Now that people are suggesting videos right and left, I'm not sure when I will get to it, but I will definitely put that on my list. One whole cabinet in my kitchen is dedicated to her stuff, and she hates most of it, so it should go...
Loved this video
Thanks! I hope it helps!
Good choices! :-)
Great video, as always! Please be careful with keeping your phone in pocket! Not trying to sound dramatic, but research has shown higher incidents of cancer in those who do that.
Jami Wirl truly agree with that. That's why I got a scottyevest Hoodie to keep stuff like that. I can't sit comfortably with stuff in my pockets either. I get a lot of butt calls from friends that keep their phones in their pockets.
D: I'll keep that in mind.
Sorry, I didn’t catch the name of the second bag - geometric pattern... Liked it.. What brand is that…
& Other Stories. Their shoes and bags are really good quality for the price.
Thanks, but cudnt find this bag :(
I bought it 3-4 years ago, so it's no longer available from the company. I thought you just wanted to check out the brand, but you may be able to find it second hand somewhere. Good luck!
Sure.. Its a cute bag.. As you said they have some really good stuff.. thanks for replying
is your camera in all back or the silver/cognac leather?
All black. The silver/cognac one is gorgeous, but I figured it would show scratches more easily.
That's surprising, you're getting rid of the bag I like the most. That Kate Spade looks like it would make a great minimalist evening clutch.
But good job decluttering! :)
I was surprised at first, but then she said she uses the white/prismatic bag as a clutch. If you don't mind the contrast with darker outfits, it's a very unique evening bag.
lol, oh no! It is a great bag, but the hardware is SUPER worn, which didn't get picked up on camera. I actually thought about getting it replated, but apparently the hardware is attached in a way that would make it really difficult to re-attach it without damaging the leather. I think I've also just had it for a long time, so it's lost some of it's appeal.
Vested Interests
Ahhhh that makes sense!
Functional tips
Great
🖐🏼🤗
Can't help but ask.. Do you have hyperthyroidism?
Oh my, I don't think so. I assume you're referring to my neck, which I now can't stop looking at. I don't have any of the symptoms, though I have been eating more recently, but that's 100% because it's Girl Scout cookie season.
Vested Interests please take no offense. As a med student I was curious not only because of your neck but also your eyes. But I hope you are well and continue making great videos, I'm a fan of your content.
No offense taken at all! I'm kind of paranoid now though and I will likely book an appointment with my GP. I'll let you know if they find anything! I feel like this is related to an ethical debate in machine learning about whether or not image recognition software should warn you of unusual moles that it identifies or not. I'm not sure I want my phone warning me, but I'm grateful that you were so attentive! We shall see.
I happened to need to see a doctor for a different reason, so I asked while I was there. He felt my neck and looked at my face and said that I had no discernible signs of an irregular thyroid. Good to know!
Vested Interests that is great news! 😊
Can we see ur cat
She's in my second most recent video on basics!
3 essencials in a bag: keys, phone, wallet
