Im an old 0311,,this shit is haunting and at the same time beautiful! It has reassurance, a coming home type of feeling, poetry, a strange lullaby, i was so young i didn't know,,,but it taught me discipline and structure which to this day I still draw from. After having a rough day at MCRD it was almost soothing marching back from the chow hall and hearing our D.I. call cadence.

Was in the Corps and got out in '98 with 1st LSB. In '96, there was a Cpl in the platoon that couldn't call cadence to save his life. We to help him but nothing worked. Another LCpl figured out that since he was a huge Star Wars fan to use the Imperial March. It took him a while but he eventually got the hang of it and was able to pass Cpl's Course Drill segment. Years later I entered joined the Nevada National Guard and was made to drill the company one night during AT. The sound of three platoons at half-step as I called the Imperial March cadence intimidated the rest of the battalion. My Plt Sgt that made me do that is now a Cmd SgtMaj for the same signal battalion. He says that other people have tried but he says that nobody can get the Jarhead cadence to get it done right. I miss it. I LOVE calling drill cadence.

Get your cadence on cadence. Had the same problem with some of these guys calling cadence running PT and off beat. Its tiresome. You can sing like others and be in step with the recruits. SMH. Never had Drill Instructors at P.I. calling off cadence like this. Even R Lee Ermy in Full Metal Jacket and Boys in Company C sang on cadence

The Drill Instructors would do cadence from all kinds of songs. One from another battalion sung the song for the Atlanta Braves.

I don't know sorry but I've heard a lot better when I was on the island in 98. This wasn't that great in my opinion
