After having a rough day at MCRD it was almost soothing marching back from the chow hall and hearing our D.I. call cadence. Heading back to da creeib.
Our Platoon Commander (what we called SDI's in '68) GySgt. Galihugh sang the finest cadence to us (Lima Co., Plt.319). He had that WILD look in his eyes that commanded your "undying" attention! SEMPER FI ! '40 inches back-to-chest, 4 inches shoulder-to-shoulder, swing your arms 6 to-the-front 3 to-the-rear, lean back, dig'em in! & strut!-strut!-strut!'
I would give anything to be able to go through the service again. Devil dogs and jar heads for life semper fi. Sometimes I have to revert back to these times to find my strength. This is where the spirit of a marine is built and cared for. Take care marines

Was in the Corps and got out in '98 with 1st LSB. In '96, there was a Cpl in the platoon that couldn't call cadence to save his life. We to help him but nothing worked. Another LCpl figured out that since he was a huge Star Wars fan to use the Imperial March. It took him a while but he eventually got the hang of it and was able to pass Cpl's Course Drill segment. Years later I entered joined the Nevada National Guard and was made to drill the company one night during AT. The sound of three platoons at half-step as I called the Imperial March cadence intimidated the rest of the battalion. My Plt Sgt that made me do that is now a Cmd SgtMaj for the same signal battalion. He says that other people have tried but he says that nobody can get the Jarhead cadence to get it done right. I miss it. I LOVE calling drill cadence.

@@dd-uj8jx the cadence hats use at PI is more crisp while at SD it's more soulful, I know this because it seems ALL THE HATS go to Okinawa and particularly MCAS FUTENMA after they leave the drill field (not true but MAAAAAN THERE WERE A LOT from 07-09). In 07 R Lee Ermey was the guest speaker for our ball & ALL THE OLD HATS started making us drill and shit and you could distinctly tell the difference betwixt Pi & SD cadence, but what do I know?

In NROTC we had marine options so we got a Gunnery Sergeant who spent time as a DI. I could only march in any sort of respectable way when he was calling cadence smooth and with melody like this.

Dude PI an SD sound almost similar,you do know Marines from SD can end up in PI as DI and visversa.
