  • We are excited to finally get our hands on RTX 40 series laptops, especially with a more budget-oriented card! We got a laptop for just a little over $1,000 with the RTX 4060 in it and we tested games at high refresh rates and were pretty impressed.

For all the guys complaining about the CPU temps in the comments: I own this laptop and the fix was pretty simple - I got a good cooling pad & limited the CPU power to 35w instead of the default 45w limit via ThrottleStop (since undervolting is impossible on the 12th gen CPUs). The fps dropped by like 7-8, so in order to recover the performance loss I overclocked the GPU via MSI Afterburner. Now I get about the same performance and CPU temps rarely go past 85 degrees celsius. To make it even better I am looking forward upgrading the BIOS from FB01 to a newer version, like FB03 or so.
To sum it up, this Gigabyte laptop is a great machine if you are willing to do a few tricks & tweaks. Personally, I am, and honestly the 4060 in this price segment is quite unbeatable. I could’ve opted for a more known brand like Lenovo Legion and get a 3060 laptop for about the same price, but I would’ve lost a few important features like DLSS 3 (which is fantastic), the 12th gen CPU (those 12 cores and 16 threads are simply amazing, coming from a quad core i7 7700HQ) and also, probably the most important in my opinion, the 8 GB of VRAM, which are considerably more fututeproof than 6.

I actually own a 4070 version of this exact laptop paired with a 13900HX and 32GB of DDR5 with Samsung 980 evo Pro . . You will NEED a Laptop cooling pad 100% . Also i agree the cooling solution does suck .. I highly suggest Re-applying better thermal paste or reach out and use the RMA and say its overheating .. Thats what i did and it came back a bit cooler once they re-applied the thermal paste... My laptop is the Sager version so my Bios might be different ...

All that to still get 85C, a 6800H hardly goes past 80C when lifted (no cooling pad) and hardly goes past 77C with a basic 2000RPM cheap cooling pad. That's either intel with shitty temps or the laptop with shitty cooling.

@@Xyz_LittyThanks for the answer! I’ll take repasting into consideration in the future, maybe. For now, I don’t wanna lose my 2 year warranty. On a sidenote, do you happen to know if this machine has MUX switch? If yes, is there a way to enable it without an external monitor?

This is actually a Clevo chassis rebranded by Gigabyte.
Besides only 8 GB of RAM, the main flaw is the screen since it has very poor color gamut and accuracy along with slower response times and low brightness.

When getting this notebook, it's important to get the latest bios version installed. Mine came with "FB01" and it had some stuttering issues and got pretty loud. They optimized the power limits and fan curves with version "FB03" a lot. In power savings mode it can play simple(!) games for up to 3hrs on battery, too. It's pretty much passively cooled at this point at a room temperature of ~20°C.

When cpus do this it usually means that thermal paste isnt good enough. Unless theres some magic phase change thermal paste from honey well or your capable of getting liquid metal to stay in one spot your temps are going to annoy you. You also got to undervolt which is even better in a laptop because it means higher frequency at tdp which brings base clock much closer to boost.

CPU getting hot and throttling really won't affect performance much if any... GPU throttling is a problem as that will directly hurt performance. CPU temperatures getting higher 90's looks crazy, but is completely fine. People have too much of an obsession with high temperatures on the CPU. GPU being too hot and throttling (which it's not in this video) is a way bigger issue as that will directly hit your performance way more. Unless your CPU is getting so hot it's causing 3 or 2 Mhz in gaming or potentially causing your computer to shut off, then it really is not a problem in the slightest. Fan sound is probably the only real problem, if you care about sound.

I don't think 8 GB ram is okay in 2023 for new hardware. 8 GB VRAM will soon be obsolete. So it's not okay to have new hardware with 8 GB system RAM in 2023. When you need at least 8 GB VRAM (for gaming) then 8 GB system RAM is a joke. For $1000 is a double joke. It would have cost the manufacturer $20 to double the RAM. And if anyone wants to argue: "oh well multiply that $20 times every single laptop they sell, and that's a lot of money" . To that I respond: then sell the laptop for $1020. Every fucking product does not need round numbers at the end. Add 20 dollars to the laptop price if you have to. But companies don't want to make it $1020 because then they can't say: "oh our laptop is less than $1000". It's marketing bullshit like that that ends up hurting customers. Sellers like to have round numbers like $499 and $999 so they can say: "our laptop is less than $500" or "less than $1000"
And that's marketing and advertising bullshit.

Do they atleast offer the option to pay X amount more and they'll add the ram and M.2 at the assembly line ?, probably not 🤔. Wasn't there also an issue with some 40 series GPU's lately that Nvidia Wasn't honoring ? 🤷‍♂️

For everyone complaining about the CPU temps:
    - Download throttlestop
    - Undervolt CPU (start around 70mV - 145mV, in 5mV increments until you hit your chip's limit)
    - Disable Turbo (very important)
Should go from about 95C to 70C - 75C with a minimal drop in performance. So in essence, you're trading off > 5 fram es for 20C - 25C cooler temps. An easy trade to make. And if the 5 frames are that important to you, tweak your in-game graphics settings.
C'mon guys, this is PC gaming 101 stuff, and not that serious of an issue to have so many people complaining about.
I did this to my i7 9th gen / 16GB / 2060 laptop (80W variant) I bought for $500 (buyer said temps were too high so he sold it cheap lmao), and it idles around 35C, internet browsing around 40C - 45C, gaming around 70C (Timespy score of 68xx I think. Been a while since I've run it).
Not bad for a $500 2060 1080p/144hz laptop. Runs COD at around 70-80fps (I just usually lock it at 60fps), and Warframe at 144fps at around 65-70C. Although I am using a custom voltage/frequency curve in MSI afterburner (PC gaming 201).
But it's perfectly fine for 1080p gaming (especially in DLSS games) after a few tweaks to control your temps and SENSIBLE graphics settings, that honestly, all serious PC gamers should know how to do.
