    I have the S8 2013. Also as an automotive engineer, I confirm that in my opinion this is one of the best engines in the modern automotive world! Gotta drive one in order to understand how cool really is!

      If you ignore their PCV, turbo oiling, injector issues, internally leaking high pressure fuel pumps and weak motor mounts. Been lucky with the turbo but got bit by the other four. '13 S6 stage 1.

    I was shocked when I found out it has on 430hp. My A8L feels like it has 600hp. Mind you it's a beast that barely fits in my garage. Gotta love German Engineering...

      480hp. It's rated at 420 but many have dynoed them at an actual 480hp.

    The guy praddles on & on about all the "Gee whiz" features and engineering. Yet an unservicable oil feed line screen clogs & kills the turbos
    Uh- how about an inline, filter body that is accessible? Sure would help things survive & would not cause a $10k repair...

    what the literal thing is "charge air cooler"?
    Never seen an engine arroyo
    setup like this I'm utterly confusing right now, esp. regards to the induction system, esp how it cool the air. Does it use air to water?
    I can't find anything on the info of "charge cooler"

      I have an S8 and just blew my turbos. It's very common on S6, S7, Rs7, s8 Make sure you change your oil every 4 or 5k not the recommended 10k. There are forums on this. Wish I knew ahead of time.

      @@csmith4463 I also have S8.Because of this common issue, about an year ago I replaced the oil filter screen of the turbos with the revised one. For 200k km it was clogged at around 40% of its capacity. Never had any further issues. The car is magnificent!

    Timing chain in the back of the engine so that when it stretches after 60m miles you can't replace it. Awesome design!

    • @popperbottle11
      @popperbottle11 6 лет назад +2

      You can replace it....but you gotta take the engine out. They're unnecessarily complicated but fuck do they work good. I have a 10 year old A5 with a 3.2v6 in it that also has the chains on the back. It's had a HARD life as I'm not nice to my cars, and I've never had to change them. Never had to do anything to it actually. Just normal maintenance.

      @@popperbottle11 ive got the 4.2 v8 same year as yours. What mileage typically would the chain be replaced? The car is great but I don't like how jumpy the clutch is. She had a new clutch fitted recently but the gears can be very jumpy unless im spot on with the throttle.
