I absolutely love river rapids rides. They are my second favorite non-coaster Intamin attraction model (after their drop towers.) I don't ride them every time I go to a park but most of the time I do. I love when they have some theming or a nice setting. This really should be a staple of every park, or at least theme park resort. These are one of the best rides to go on when you visit a park with a group.
There once was one in Las Vegas at the MGM grand amusement park. It was long had great theming basically attempting to be big thunder mountain. I haven't even found good footage of the ride.
Great video! To this day, there's not a defunct ride I miss more than Canyon River Rapids. Absolutely legendary ride. No "Russian Roulette" with that one. You were getting drenched and that was that. Still have my on-ride vhs tape from a visit back in 03'! Of the current rapids rides, Infinity Falls is a big winner, imo. Waited in line for Mystic River falls for about 30 minutes last summer, didn't move more than a few feet, and decided to bail. Looked fantastic, though. Keep turning out these videos! It's really nice to have these countdowns from someone who has accumulated a large amount of riding experience all over the world.
As much as i love River Quest , my favorite ist Fjord Rafting at Europapark. It's not that wet , but I love the theming , interactions and the fast paced sections . And i also love how it goes through the park
Seeing river quests drops completely changed my opinion on this ride model, rapids rides have always been a guilty pleasure ride for me but seeing that u can get airtime that good on one of these makes me love these even more
I think one reason I like these rides so much is that my wife and kid love them, so they can be some of the most intense rides that I can actually share with my family. Riding big coasters is a solo activity for me these days, but raft rides are about the fun of everybody getting soaked together. And you usually get thrown in with some temporary friends in another party too. It's a communal thing.
I'm personally not someone who likes getting wet, but I like the social aspect of river rapid rides, and the fact that they pretty much all have theming. Going on an exciting storytelling water adventure with a group of strangers all getting a bunch of water dumped on them is pretty fun.
Love this list. Roaring Rapids at Shanghai Disneyland makes my Top 5. Lucked out with a night ride while the fireworks were going off. Lost World Rafting at Erse Park in Germany was probably the most terrifying rapids ride experience for me.
I love that this channel showcases more than just coasters. And I've actually got a credit that you don't, Mystic River Falls. I was at SDC for 2 days last September and it was down 90% of the time. We had a return time & it happened to open for about an hour and we snagged a ride. It was great. A little better than Infinity Falls.
I love the inclusion of Canyon River Rapids at Hersheypark. I have so many fond memories of riding it as a kid with my dad and brother. It was such a long ride and there were a couple of unavoidable waterfalls. It was impossible not to come off soaked. I understand why Hersheypark replaced it but I do miss it.
I remember waiting 3 1/2 hours outside Mystic River Falls’s entrance waiting for it to soft open. We had gotten a season pass just so we could go back one more day and see if we could get on it, and we did. 2nd group in line. It was really cool, well themed, and super fun
Personally, I'd add Jurassic Park Rapids Adventure to any list i make out of all 4 Universal Jurassic Park rides, this is the only rapids one and i feel the theming is the best, esp once you get into the power station. The t-rex at the top of the elevator never ceases to amuse and surprise.
Missed out on that one because when I was in Singapore I couldn't convince my daughter to want to go to Universal. I'm still a little disappointed about not getting to ride that and Battlestar Galactica. On the other hand, we did go to the waterpark on the same island and experience the greatest lazy river I've ever encountered.
I typically skip rapids rides (don’t like having wet socks) so I haven’t ridden many. However, Popeye and Bluto is my favorite of the ones I’ve ridden. It’s fun and gets you soaked. Even if my kids (11 and 12) have no idea who Popeye is.
Both times I've been to Islands of Adventure Popeye's has gotten me comically drenched on each ride. It is insane! My favorite still though is Grizzly River Run at DCA. Super well themed with great drops!
The Shanghai Disneyland river rapids ride looks pretty cool too. I’m pretty sure the layout is the exact same as Grizzly River Run, just mirrored, but it has a super large animatronic crocodile that looks breathtaking
Toward the end I was afraid that for some reason you had failed to include River Quest, but to my relief it comes in at #1. Without a doubt the best rapids ride on earth. I watched for a while from various places and finally made myself go on it. I was soaked but not unhappy I did it. This is a good list.
Thanks! Is there a good place to watch it off-ride? I remember most of it being sort of mysterious. I only had a photo of the approach to the vertical lift.
@@CanobieCoaster the sidewalk along the building offers views through the windows, especially of that impossible seeming near-vertical drop. Then around back, near the back entrance gate, you can watch boats as they approach and go through the whirlpool. The action is slower there.
Hydro Surge at the Myrtle Beach Pavilion was the best one I ever rode. Biggest and wettest rapids I had ever experienced. You were already soaked by the time you exited the tunnel in the first 1/4 of the ride.
@@CanobieCoaster it was fantastic. Great atmosphere, great rapids ride and log flume, excellent ghost train, superb flat rides, and a good Arrow Mad Mouse. The big wooden coaster, the Hurricane, had a decent layout but was far, far too rough.
Oh pavilion is 1 of my 3 home parks! well was...[others are carowinds abd disney world]. Hydro surge was great! It may have been a shorter track then some rapids rides, but you really got wet! Dont forget the Huss rainbow facing the ocean and the scrambler when it was inside w all the sprcial effects! RIP pavilion .. ...letting you go was South Carolina's worst mistake!
Disney's Kali River Rapids gets a lot of grief, and it is near the bottom of my personal ranking, but I think it's still worth experiencing just to see the beautiful queue (maybe the best queue at Walt Disney World) and to ride that drop. Otherwise, it is pretty tame and I know it was scaled down from what it was originally intended to be, but as I said earlier, I'm always on the lookout for rides I can share with my whole family and that is one.
One of my favourites is Bengal Rapid River at Bellewaerde. Not so much for the ride itself, but for the way the rafts are made. It's like ' triangle shaped rafts put together and are only conjoined in the middle. Because of that, the rafts move up and down more and more water can get inside of the raft.
I personally live right by Knott's Berry Farm and I have a season pass before Knott's Berry Farm was temporarily closed due to coronavirus. I know when the crowds and Knott's would and repeatedly ride accelerator Ghost Rider and sometimes even Calico River Rapids with no lines at all.
Popeye and Bluto's Bilge-Rat Barges is *by far* the best one I've ridden. It's a wonder. My second favorite might be Compounce's Thunder Rapids. I think the only one I've ridden that is not already on this list is Busch Gardens' Roman Rapids. But it was a long time ago and I'm honestly not sure how it'd rank among the others. I didn't get around to riding the one at Six Flags New England when I was there.
Because the rapids part is my favorite, I'm gonna have to say that Lake Compounce one looks totally up my speed. Gonna have to try getting there next season.
I love the Compounce one. On one of our visits there, they let us ride it straight through three times in a row and we had to change our clothes afterward.
I'll admit I missed out on many river Rapids due to time but the one at SeaWorld san antonio is a great one for me because I was joking on how dry I was only to have a literal waterfall hit me seconds after I said that, it was truly hilarious lol
Roman Rapids at Busch Gardens Williamsburg was always a favorite. I've also enjoyed the one from Hersheypark a few times back in the day. The others I've ridden are from Dorney Park, Kings Dominions, Six Flags Great Adventure, and Six Flags America. Thought about doing Kennywood's, but the lines were always long for it.
I was realy suprised you put River quest on your number 1 spot. It is a awesome and scary rapid, but in the US they look a lot better. Chiapas, there log flume ride, is also amazing. Any chance you ridden Piraña at Efteling?
River Quest is my number one, too. Those drops blew me away. But why do I not remember any rapids ride at Lake Compounce? Is it in the water park section?
The river rapids ride is on that awkward dead end path that runs between the lake and the return run of Boulder Dash. It gets even less traffic now that the sky ride up the mountain was removed. I think the long-term plan is to complete a path around the lake and add a coaster down there.
Canobie Coaster I walked down that path to the end, where there’s a train station. I waited for the train and rode it around the lake. Totally blanking on remembering a rapids ride anywhere. Edit: I’m baffled. Only ever been there one day so maybe I don’t remember it because it was closed that day. 🤷♂️
Canobie Coaster Even more likely then that it was closed. I actually asked the person I went with that day and she doesn’t remember it, either. 😂. Next time, then.
When it comes to rapids rides, I prefer ones with more rapids instead of waterfalls and effects. Thunder Canyon at Dorney Park is an exception. It's pretty much all waterfalls. There's a few sections of rapids that get you wet which is nice. It's a lot of fun. It's pretty aggressive too. The boats spin a lot and they go through the river pretty fast. Roaring Rapids at Magic Mountain is another good one. I like that is has multiple sections of rapids. Thunder River at Over Georgia is ok. There's only one section of rapids. However, that section gets you SOAKED! So it makes up for it. Shipwreck and Canyon River Rapids are great choices. Both have a nice combination of rapids and water effects. Congo Rapids at Great Adventure is a favorite of mine. I believe it's the oldest one in operation too. It's certainly not the best.... but I would rank it higher than some of the more popular ones. It's a true rapids ride. Two great sets of rapids. Both of them get you pretty wet. Sometimes drenched. Anyways, great video. It's nice to see.
My personal favorite is the one at sea world Orlando, I got soaked and it cooled my off for the day. The only other I’ve ridden is Grand Rapids at Michigans adventure
Lost River was a great river rapids ride from what many have told me, Mystic River is only a marginal improvement but has the MASSIVE disadvantage of having a PAINFULY SLOW turn around which makes the wait way too long for this kind of ride.
I don't know when you were in Phantasialand, but I want to point out that it has gotten a re-theme to fit more into Klugheim couple years back. Theming (especially during the whirlpool section) has improved drasically
Every time I ride river quest, I wonder how it is allowed to operate without any seat belt or sort of stuff. As you said, especially that first drop feels like pinball. It's good they have that 1.40 m height restriction that normally only big thrill rides have, because it is more than necessary.
I've only been on a few, and of the list only Kali River Rapids, but in my estimation White Water Canyon at Kings Island is the best one that I've ridden by far.
I have only ridden Infinity Falls and the one at SeaWorld San Antonio. They're not really my thing. I wouldn't wait in line for one. With Infinity Falls, it was in the low 60s, so there was no line.
Of all the ones I've ridden, my favorite is Popeye & Bluto's Bildge Rat Barges at Universal's Islands of Adventure followed by Grizzly River Run at Disney's California Adventure, Bigfoot Rapids at Knott's Berry Farm (before becoming Calico River Rapids which I haven't ridden yet), Shipwreck Rapids at SeaWorld San Diego, Roman Rapids at Busch Gardens Williamsburg, Rio Loco at SeaWorld San Antonio, The Gully Washer at Six Flags Fiesta Texas, Congo River Rapids at Busch Gardens Tampa, Raging Rapids at Kennywood, Thunder Canyon at Valleyfair, Roaring Rapids at Six Flags Magic Mountain and Roaring Rapids at Six Flags Over Texas.
I’ve only been on like 7 and none of them really stood out for me the only one that comes to mind is the roaring rapids at six flags over Texas and that’s because when I rode it it felt like there wasn’t enough water for the ride to have effective rapids
"U.F.O." is a well known in Japan brand of instant noddles called "Yakisoba", from Nissin, the same people who make those noodle cups you can buy for $1 at the supermarket. The brand has a well known mascot of "UFO Kamen Yakisoban", a super hero in the vein of franchises like Super Sentai (the show Power Rangers is made from) and Kamen Rider. his arch-nemesis is a villain known as the Kettler... hence the giant kettle on the ride, who wants to steal people's kettles so they can't make noodles. For a time, the Kettler was actually more popular and took over as the main spokesman. I'm not making a word of this up... tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Advertising/UFOKamenYakisoban
I usually don’t go on these unless I have a bathing suit on unless it’s a hot day, so I haven’t been on many. I did quite like Dorney Park’s Thunder Canyon because the degree to which I was soaked had me laughing
@@CanobieCoaster there was an incident when a member of the coast guard soldier (the coast guard used its rapids for training) broke his leg during an exercise and that effected the ride-ability of it for that season

I did that for some early videos, but someone commented they weren't syncing with the visuals and that the autogenerated RUclips ones work better. Do you find one works better?
Having watched a couple of your videos now I have the following advice: you really need to match up your footage and/or pictures with what you're saying better (or actually have some pictures/footage of what you're saying) so that when you reference particular things you show them. It's more work and takes longer, I get that, and finding footage of more obscure rides is harder and might need permission that could delay the video, I get that too - but it would make a much better video and a much nicer viewing experience. For the weirder (Splash UFO) or obscurer rides where showing what you're telling is far more essential it would be especially welcome. Sorry to pick, mate, the countdowns themselves (as in script) are great and highlight some great hidden gems.
Thank you for the feedback. I only started taking video footage myself in the past year. For anything before that, I just have photos to leverage or I'm reliant on the work of others. For some of the obscure rides, it's a struggle to find footage that I can get permission to use so I'm a bit hamstrung there. I will definitely work to improve the visuals if there's a ride I have enough footage for though!
I really don't like river rapids that force you to get wet. Like one fat waterfall at the end that soaks everyone. I like it way better when it's, as you said, a Russian roulette!
I think you are overrating RiverQuest massively here. The issue with RQ is that each drop progressively has less and less effect. The first is a soaker, the second a fair soaker... and the last does nothing before you just gently float for several minutes until you get off. It's a unique ride, but not the best at all. It's not even my favourite in Europe. Not to mention the fact the ride has periods of downtime and poor capacity.. Of course, RiverQuest is indeed be one of the better rapids rides in Europe - but I actually find some of the more 'normal' Intamin rapids rides to be more enjoyable - maybe I am a bit vanilla!
I feel proud, having ridden your two favorit rapids.

I don't know when you were in Phantasialand, but I want to point out that it has gotten a re-theme to fit more into Klugheim couple years back. Theming (especially during the whirlpool section) has improved drasically
I've only been once in 2017. I only had one photo of the ride form that year. The footage I found for this video was older.
I love the soundtrack on this ride. specially the part when you are on the vertical lift.
Can you do top 15 water rides??
I wasn't planning on it, but most of the list would be my top 10 log flumes followed by the top 3-4 of these with Jurassic Park mixed in.
@@CanobieCoaster guessed that
Every time I ride river quest, I wonder how it is allowed to operate without any seat belt or sort of stuff. As you said, especially that first drop feels like pinball. It's good they have that 1.40 m height restriction that normally only big thrill rides have, because it is more than necessary.
The Hafema ones all seem sketchy with how they throw you about.
I've only been on a few, and of the list only Kali River Rapids, but in my estimation White Water Canyon at Kings Island is the best one that I've ridden by far.
The Kings Island one is decent. I like the setting.
I have only ridden Infinity Falls and the one at SeaWorld San Antonio. They're not really my thing. I wouldn't wait in line for one. With Infinity Falls, it was in the low 60s, so there was no line.
I like Infinity Falls way more than Rio Grande.
i've only been on shipwreck rapids. but have been around calico river rapids and grizzly river run.
Love Shipwreck Rapids!
I've never done any of the Roaring Rapids ones, but they don't seem good based on where you put them.
@@CanobieCoaster Yeah they didn't have that many elements to them and you barely ever got wet.
You need to travel outside the US!
@@adeejinnz Well I would like to visit La Ronde, Canada's Wonderland, Galaxyland and maybe even Six Flags Mexico. But that's about it.
@@mitchellries256 No desire to explore the world, eh?
The Piranha at Efteling is still one of the best because boats can pass each other. Also the rapid at Toverland is great.
I've seen that happen on a few Intamin ones.
Six Flags Magic Mountain has a drencher of a rapids! Wish you had ridden it
It is usually closed when I'm there since I visit in December-March.
Piraña of the Efteling is missing from the list. It has a nice theming, landscape and layout.
I'll have to try that one when I return to Efteling.
@@CanobieCoaster This is a nice vid of it: ruclips.net/video/Dvbf2Q4JO1k/видео.html
Nothing gets you wetter then Popeyes but I love the elevator on Infinity Falls
If we're talking elevators, the one on Mystic River Falls looks amazing.
Cedar Points Rapids ride. I got soak, we went under all 3 water falls
I haven't ridden that one in a long time, but I remember it being decent.
Have you been on Thunder Canyon at Silverwood?
I skipped that one since the park was busy and I wanted to prioritize rerides on the wood coasters.
@@CanobieCoaster it is made in house and the airtime is AWESOME
Are the dips into the rapids that wild?
@@CanobieCoaster they can be
@@CanobieCoaster I got some airtime, or it at least felt fast
I think you forgot an attraction from the Efteling pirana or Have you not been there?
I have been to Efteling, but I skipped it due to only having a half day.
My favorite Rapids are Grizzly Rapids at DCA and my other one is the Rapids at Magic Mountain
The one at Magic Mountain is comically soaking.
Nagashimasuka sounds like it should be at Nagashima Spa Land, not Fuji-Q
Absolutely!
I’ve only been on like 7 and none of them really stood out for me the only one that comes to mind is the roaring rapids at six flags over Texas and that’s because when I rode it it felt like there wasn’t enough water for the ride to have effective rapids
Yikes, I've never ridden that one.
@@CanobieCoaster not really missing much but it does have some good landscaping
My Fav. Rapidriver is Excalibur @Movie Park Germany
I love that ride's theming.
Canyon River Rapids was a big part of my childhood
Never should have taken it out.
I wish it was still there.
I went on the Busch Gardens Tampa one and everyone on the raft got soaked except me who hardly got a drop on me
I think I came off that one dry too.
Grizzly River Run at DCA is easily my favorite
Love that ride.
white water safari (i think that’s what it’s called) at discovery kingdom got me soaked with that huge waterfall about halfway through the ride
I still need to ride that one.
Can you du a top 20 log flumes?
I have a top 10 log flume video already out!
Maybe not one of the very best, but Michigan's Adventure has a pretty good one called Grand Rapids.
That one is one of the best rides at that park.

Thank you for sharing that and that helps me understand the theme better.
Isn’t thunder river at st stl the first river rapids ride
I think the Astroworld one was, but St. Louis's came shortly after.
Hell yeah
Love these rides!
so sad mines at my home park got removed :(
Sadly some of these are leaving.
I usually don’t go on these unless I have a bathing suit on unless it’s a hot day, so I haven’t been on many. I did quite like Dorney Park’s Thunder Canyon because the degree to which I was soaked had me laughing
That's fair. These can get you uncomfortably drenched.
i've only been on 1 of them, but it's the nr1 (phantasialand) so yeah i'm happy :p
btw, i waited 2hours for it on a hot summer day, only to go off completely dry as the only one of the boat haha
That's unlucky. I got soaked on a rainy October day.
I don’t ride these anymore but I think I’ve been on a few not many
I like to ride them.
Fury of the Nile at world's of fun use to run way more wild back in the day
Interesting! Was it the aftermath of an incident?
@@CanobieCoaster no I think it's partly I grew up and I think because the ride is so old the geysers and other effects don't work.
@@CanobieCoaster there was an incident when a member of the coast guard soldier (the coast guard used its rapids for training) broke his leg during an exercise and that effected the ride-ability of it for that season
I think I’ve ridden the one at Hershey I’m not sure
Loved that one!
How you going to show River Rampage from Dollywood in the intro, but not include it?
That one was probably the first one to miss the list. It has had a lot of effects turned off in my most recent rides.
Wheres piranha at Efteling???
I skipped that one due to time (only had a half day) and will ride it the next time I'm there.
@@CanobieCoaster glad to hear that the efteling is closed how (like every other theme park in the Netherlands)
Due to covid 19. Hope it will be better soon i really miss roller coasters and hope to visit walibi Holland
When I saw the title with Russian roulette in it, I thought you meant "will it tip over or will you survive?" Lol bc I have heard of a few incidents…
No, not like that.
you forgot to insert jungle rapids?
Haven't done that one.
I though grizzly river run should have been higher. But I haven’t been on most of these.
It's a fun one.
I don't think I have ever ridden a rapids ride that gets you wetter than Dorney parks.
That one has a ton of waterfalls.
I would personally prefer Grizzly River Run compared to Kali River Rapids in terms of Disney's river rapids themed ride.
Same.
Can you put english subtitles to video ?
I did that for some early videos, but someone commented they weren't syncing with the visuals and that the autogenerated RUclips ones work better. Do you find one works better?
@@CanobieCoaster I prefer the autogenerated.
For Me Its Easily Infinity Falls
That one is certainly up there.
I am 3~1 on raft rides the only one I got soaked is Popeyes and blutos raftride
With Popeye, it is impossible to come off dry.
I know
Some girl on my boat unbuckled her seat belt to try to dodge the water she got a talk from security
I've only ever been on 4 of these 😔
Time to ride more!
What, no Piraña? It let’s you overtake other boats! One of the widest rapids out there.
I didn't have that phenomenon happen when I rode it.
I really don't like river rapids that force you to get wet. Like one fat waterfall at the end that soaks everyone. I like it way better when it's, as you said, a Russian roulette!
I don't mind if there's a soaking waterfall since I go on expecting to get wet.
@@CanobieCoaster yea but when you're like only a little wet and the guy across is soaked, you feel chosen by the rapid gods themselves!
I bet you have not even come to Canada to check out any of our water rides. I've watched your....
I've ridden the rapids at Canada's Wonderland.
I like RiverQuest for how odd it is. I had no issue with the drop progression.
It's a shame that UK rapids rides are so pointlessly tame nowadays that most people come off them dry.
I don't think I've ridden any in that country.
piraña in Efteling!!!
I need to try that one when I go back.
