- Many roller coasters use a lift hill to build up potential energy. Others use an exciting launch. And you have various different methods- electromagnetic, hydraulic, pneumatic, etc. I have ridden 114 different launched coasters across the globe, so in this video, I will rank the top 25 launches I have personally experienced.

Strange you didn’t include Taron’s second launch, which after riding over 100 times still keeps me thrilled and excited in that narrow tunnel, the insane roar and sound effects, shooting you up that waterfall/basalt wall
That one just missed. I tend to prefer non-rolling launches.
Powder Keg has always been my favorite launch. I don't get why so many people look past it. That ride is so underrated in my opinion.
I think it's overshadowed by the park.
Dude same, like ive done dragster and all that but the powder keg launch is literally amazing
That first airtime hill is insane
I love that launch. The launch into the airtime hill and then dropping off the mountain, is my favorite start to a coaster, though I am going to hit a few more this year.
Ikr, most people don't even know the park exists but its so good
My favourite has to be Velocicoaster’s second launch. You go into the tunnel and the car slows down for some miliseconds, giving the false illusion of a brake run before absolutely body slamming you into your seat with the insane speed it catches in such little time and to then go up the top hat makes it incredible

Montezooma's Revenge at Knotts has always been one of my all time favorite rides, even though it is almost as old as I am.. It's just a fun ride all around and still can hold up over 40 years later.
It's a classic.
I just rode that for the very first time today it was my first loop and it was amazing I love that ride

Montezooma's Revenge is my wife's first looping coaster, and is now our seven year old son's first looper. Cool, huh??! So happy that Knott's is keeping this classic king alive for many more years to come.
You included all my favorites except for my number one favorite, which I love not for its power but for its fun factor: the second launch on Taron.
That one just barely missed the list.
I agree... hard to argue with Do-Dodompa and Formula Rossa topping the list but Taron's second launch would definitely make my top 10 somewhere... it must be up there for fastest speeds going into a rolling launch and it still gives a real kick into overdrive! :)
Especially if you're not expecting it... apparently some people don't watch onrides of every ride in a park before visiting (don't get it...), my friend was really surprised by the second launch and loved it.

The Sekond lauch of Taron especially should be in the top 10 because of the night setting, when you rush through this narrow, foggy red hell shooting up the steep rocks and the waterfall at the end of the launch without even seeing it comming
I knew what your # 1 would be. I've got to get on that! My favorite launch is Kingda Ka's. I can feel the power of Maxx Force, but there's just something about 128 mph and seeing that gigantic structure I'm about to climb. I also love that screeching sound of the LIM launches.
Most launches sound cool. The air launches are my favorite for sound.
Stealth and Furios Baco are my absolutely favourite. Have not experienced most of the list, but have to say that Stealth is truly special because of the punch you get in your stomach. When you are at the top you don’t even care about the drop because your mind goes numb and Furios Baco was such a surprise to me. Did not expect the feeling it gives you. It just wowed me and luckily I was able to ride it 3 times and the park was not packed. Great video!!!

With the way you described the launch on Anubis really makes my anticipate is more.

I prefer Dragster as a ride, but Ka has the better launch.
Superman Escape is my favourite launch (I've not ridden any on this list). The hydraulic launch is great, but the theming is incredible. The preshow, Superman's monologue, and the headchopper at the end are amazing! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Where would it place on this list?

Great video - Desert Race launchs indeed really snappy, Taron's second launch has the best roar and Anubis really caught me off guard.
Another great launch is Karacho at Tripsdrill - I think it's on a similar level with Anubis :)
Taron just missed the list. I rode Karacho within days of Junker and Anubis, but it didn't seem to have the same kick. It was very good though and just missed the list.

My favorite launch is Top Thrill Dragster’s. I love the initial punch it gives you and it feels so intense especially near the back of the train. The front row gives amazing views too! It’s my number 1 coaster as of now

Revenge of the Mummy is a underrated launch that people almost never talk about, I’ve a lot of launch coasters but despite Mummy’s top speed that acceleration was POWERFUL. Obviously it’s not as intense as something like Xcelerator but it still has a gut punch to it. It’s definitely in my top launches as well.
And the theming around the launch only accentuates it.

Same. Keep in mind I have only ridden 4 coasters with launches. Stealth, Rita, Th13teen and Pegase Express
I love the launch on Hulk, mostly because I had no idea it was there. I’m chilling as we are being pulled up the hill via chain and then woosh.

They're pretty good and I love the second's placement.

RIP to Dododonpa, it was my dream roller coaster as my favorite elements on roller coasters are the launches. And that's the biggest pain us as enthusiasts have to deal with, closed rides, especially permanently.
It's unfortunate that it closed.

Even tho i’ve ridden some great launches, like Dragster, Xcelerator and such, but my favorite has gotta be Mr Freeze, that backwards launch will never be beat imo
I prefer the spike launch on Mr. Freeze.
That's high up my list. That powerful backwards LIM launch is so special.

My favorite launch is Kingda Ka. That one is just nuts. Xcelerator at Knotts is another good one. It is so sudden and even better if you are not paying attention.
Both are amazing. Love hydraulic launches.
Great video! Maybe it’s nostalgia, or not getting enough rides in, but I always thought Batman and Robin the Chiller was the best launch. The stats don’t make it seem like much, but I recall it being very smooth and intense. Guessing it’s similar to the Mr. Freezes. Volcano’s second launch was also awesome. I’ve only ridden Kingda Ka once but didn’t care much for its launch, didn’t like the gearing or the massive amount of wind, I thought my contacts were going to slip off my eyeballs hah.
I wish I could have ridden that one.
@@CanobieCoaster it was a good ride, but at least at the time I preferred going on Medusa/Bizarro, Nitro, and Batman the Ride more.
@@donkeyentertain I also remember Chiller made a loud almost popping noise during the launch that added to that initial punch at the beginning. Especially when the ride ops could mess with you on your launch haha.
Ive ridden a fair few of these rides including Furius Baco, Stealth, Rita, Hyperspace Mountain, Red Force and I have to say that you've got it spot on! Hopefully get to travel to the US at some point to ride some of the other launched coasters on this list!

Great video. Don't know if you've ever been to Bobbejaanland, but Fury has a very interesting launch. 3 Launches on the same pad and you have the ability to choose which way the car is facing, really intense ride too, btw!
I have ridden Fury. That multi-pass launch didn't have the same kick as most other Gerstlauers but it was still fun.

I love the second launch on velocicoaster before cresting that tophat.
But kingda ka gets me everytime.

I’ve ridden dragster and I’ve ridden Lightning Rod but the second launch on Maverick is insane. To be fair I haven’t ridden many coasters but that launch is in my top 3. It almost puts the ride above Steel Vengeance for me

I liked lightning rod's uphill launch when I rode it this past summer but I wish I could have ridden it when it first opened. Maybe they'll increase the power again next season with the steel retrack

Volcano had a very good launch too. It just missed the list.
Rocking roller coaster is great. I went on it when my nephew was like 8. You Don't see the takeoff until you are about to get on the ride. When he saw the takeoff he was really worried so I told him not to worry nobody has died on this ride recently, which I thought was pretty funny by itself. However, the next car rolls up empty so I tell him except for those people that must have fallen off.
Xcelerators launch is soo good, and IMO its an elite coaster with how fun it is.
I love that launch too.
VelociCoaster deserved to be in the Top 25 but it's not known if that is one of the 114 launches ridden.
Also, Storm Runner in Hershey Park doesn't reach the top speed at the launch of 0-72mph, its top speed of 75mph is reached on the first drop due to the higher drop vs overall height due to the terrain inside the park.

1. Top Thrill Dragster 2. Maverick 3. Thunderbird 4. Flight Of Fear according to just ranking the coaster's launches. 1. Maverick 2. Thunderbird 3. Top Thrill Dragster 4. Flight Of Fear is my overall ranking of these coasters only.
Thunderbird is another one with a good launch.
@@CanobieCoaster Thunderbird was actually the first coaster I experienced with a launch. It was also my first wing coaster and currently my favorite wing coaster over GateKeeper.
Xcelerator’s gotta be my favorite launch I’ve ever experienced.
It's incredible.
If you ever ride stealth again, ask the operators for a blind countdown and they will turn off the race lights and replace the countdown with a heartbeat sound. Then you launch unexpectedly without warning so in the front row it is wild 😛

It's underrated.
Snoopys racing railway @CanadasWonderland is a good introduction to launched coasters for kids. I absolutely love Cheetah Hunt @BuschGardensTampa is probably my favourite ride with its multiple launches. Ice Breaker @SeaworldOrlando with its swing launch is great.
I agree Snoopy would be a good introductory launch coaster. I rode a clone of that ride in Austria. Cheetah Hunt and Ice Breaker are fun rides, although I prefer a lot of elements on those rides beyond the launch.
As cool as it would be to have some theming or effects on Maxx forces launch, I don't mind them not being there because then I have absolutely no clue when we're going go launch. The anticipation is insane

Launches are actually what scares me the most. I definitely find the adrenaline waiting on a launch track a lot scarier than say hanging at the top of a drop tower, which is crazy cause those can be terrifying. I will one day fully get used to launches and not get scared of the weird feeling of intense forwards acceleration. But there are so many crazy launches, from the most intense being Do Dodonpa with an acceleration about equivalent to fighter jets launching off air craft carriers to fast launches like Formula Rossa with speeds about 3/4 of a Nascar Car, they are definitely a fantastic experience, ones you get used to them.
The best ones can always take your breath away no matter how many times you ride them.
Launches may be my favorite element on any coaster. They’re just so awesome. My favorite is mavericks second launch. Also, what do you mean at 5:52? I got confused while watching the video

I also remember Mr. Freeze being really intense because the inverted top hat was crazy and the overbanked turn just after that was super intense as well. I remember being just yanked so hard and I think it’s very possible that may have been very powerful ejector airtime.

My Favorite here in Europe is Red Force.
I personally would add on your list also Karacho, Speed Monster, Formule X and Lynet.
Taron's second launch and Velocicoaster's second launch were two that just missed. I love their placement and speed, but since you go into them with speed and its a rolling launch, it doesn't have the same anticipation and punch for me.

I usually do not comment videos, but after watching this video about Roller Coaster Launches, I just felt I had to. First, thanks for the effort that went into making this video. I enjoyed watching it a lot. The main reason I'm commenting now is that I feel you've missed out on two GREAT launching Coasters in Europe: Taron in Phantasialand and iSpeed in Mirabilandia. In my opinion ( I'm no expert, just a enthusiast) two of the most enjoyable Roller Coaster Launches in Europe. I was kinda expecting to see those in your list. No offence, just a question: is it because you're not a huge fan of the Intamin LSM-launches in general, these Coasters didn't make your top 25?

Taron and Velocicoaster's 2nd launches just barely missed the list. iSpeed wasn't a consideration. That launch was fine, but there are several I prefer. I love the rest of iSpeed's first half though.
Hypersonic XLC is my favorite launch I've ever experienced. Probably the closest I'll get to experiencing Do-Do-Donpa for a very long time.

Which launch would you say is more intense, Ka or Maxx Force? I’ve been on Maxx Force but never Ka, going in a couple weeks!
Maxx Force for the rapid acceleration.
I didn’t notice that Mr. Freeze Reverse Blast had a launch on the vertical segment but that moment of weightlessness was scary and very thrilling and intense. I remember feeling a free fall sensation when it went back down the vertical spike.

I loved it because I felt some strong weightlessness and a free fall sensation
I think the Gerstlauer launches are so strong because the trains are not as heavy as like the Intemin trains

Between top thrill dragster and kingda ka, which launch do you like more, the launch you feel like a fluid launch motion, or the launch you feel segmented and yanks you a few times?
I like both a lot.
Kingda Ka, Maxx Force, Lightning Rod, Superman Escape From Krypton, and Maverick are my top 5 launches!

Hi Man, i'm from Catalonia and Port aventura is my home park! Only to tell you, there's no way Red force launch is better than furious!! That thing accelerates like a beast, it also has an airtime when the launch finishes, it's just awesome.
Furius Baco has a stronger initial kick, but I like the speed of Red Force more.
I agree with you on this one, these hydraulics are absolutely nuts!😍 This was my first hydraulic Launch and I absolutely felt like dying😂
I love stealth’s launch and I am waiting for waiting favourite drops
I hope to make that one soon.
Honorable mentions for me would be Montezooma’s Revenge at Knotts Berry Farm, and Superman Escape from Krypton and Full Throttle, both at Six Flags Magic Mountain. Oh, and West Coast Racers also at Six Flags Magic Mountain because of its multi launch, and Flight of Fear at Kings Island, with the way you are launched into the spaghetti bowl in the dark. Xcelerator and Top Thrill Dragster are the most intense launches I’ve experienced to date.
I thought about putting Superman on the list because of how long the launch lasts, but it just didn't have the power of the ones I put on here.

I really like full throttles 3rd launch because you go through a tunnel making the sense of speed better while your forced into your seat but I’ve only been on the launch coasters at magic mountain and most of them are weak so I don’t know what a good launch is
Superman has my favorite launch in that park.
It’s not very forceful though but it’s acceleration is held up
My favourite launch has got to be Taiga's first launch! Even thought the second launch is more powerful, the first one is better.
Those launches are fun too.
I know it isn’t nearly as forceful as the ones on this list, but I think California Screamin’ (not Incredicoaster) deserved an honorable mention because of the music and the countdown. It adds so much anticipation, and I think it is a good beginner launch coaster

What about karacho's launch? Didn't you find it as intense as the other eurofighters in your list?
Karacho's didn't quite have the same kick. It was good, but not as forceful. I rode it within days of Anubis and Junker too.
definitely not the most forceful (and not sure if you’ve been on it) but copperhead strike at carowinds. The second launch is happening in a double up so it’s kind of unique as well as being one of the few coasters with a stengel dive
The launch itself is weak, but the bunny hill is fun.

It just missed. The theatrics are cool, but it doesn't quite have the same power as the other uphill launches.
Surprised how you showed footage of Taron but didn't mention it. The first launch is alright, but the feeling and the sound the second one gives is amazing.

@@CanobieCoaster Yup it does, It only goes 83km/h but it feels way faster. It is well-themed and has good airtime. Motiongate is opening their 6th and 7th coasters in 2 days, can't wait!!
Stealth's launch felt like the upper limit of what would be enjoyable for me. Is Do Dodonpa really fun? The way you described it didn't sound like it ("legitimately terrifies " and "hit by a truck")!
I love Do-dodonpa's power myself, but it's intense.

I am a sucker for theming and near misses so i would put one of f.l.ys launches on there
the first one for that soundtrack and the visuals and the second one for the airtime over the top and the views
F.L.Y.'s launches are cool in that position, but I prefer these ones myself.
@@CanobieCoaster yeah the launches on your list have a lot more going from them, i think f.l.ys first launch is my favourite as i'm more of a theme park enthusiast than a coaster one so the overall experience leading up to that launch just gets to me
You should have added The Manta from Sea World San Diego l, it had a cool first launch

Also did they figure out what happened to Dodadonpa at Fuji Q Highland after a ride broke a few of his ribs and what would happen to the ride next?
I haven't seen an update on Do-dodonpa. As for ranking my favorite launch coasters, I don't plan to make that video since my top 100 coaster video shows that already.
Stealth is actually the 3rd fastest acceleration as it was increased it one point from 0-80 in 2.3 to 1.9 seconds

Never visited Cedar Point(I will one day), but I thought it is better than the Kingda Ka because of the lap bars instead of the over the shoulders
I prefer Dragster as a ride, but Ka has a slightly better launch.

@@CanobieCoaster no it was a joke they are soo week that even thirteen at alton towers has a faster launch acceleration on the launch into the station and that's a family coaster and it's not even a launch coaster

There are reports it injured people, but the conclusion hasn't been found yet. It may not have been the launch.
