Take a closer look at that photo and you will see the guy holding up the bike has his forearm full resting on the saddle so some of the suspension is likely to be partially compressed which would make the gap between the rear wheel and frame less than no compression.
I think it has at least 100mm of travel. Look at the picture in the upper right corner there you can see a bigger jump. In the photo on the left we can see a compressed rear shock. `Pressed by the elbow. I had an epic and it was super fast but the brain was quite troublesome. It required frequent service, maybe a new one will be better.
Yeah I was trying to figure out if the guy in the photo was compressing the shock or not so it is hard to tell. I would be surprised if they shortened the travel honestly. Yeah I really like the way the brain system works, just do not like its reliability. It also makes the front end of a bike look super clean with no lockout cables.
@@BlackWaterCyclistIf you look at his rear foot its barely on the ground and arm seems braced in the classic press down pose. Also the seat post angle looks tilted back and that’s also why the gap to rear tire is smaller. So all that makes me think its compressed and I hope it has 100mm rear.
The new 2024 Epic ST will replace the discontinued Epic HT, according to insider news. The Epic Evo with long travel will remain in the 2024 portfolio of Specialized. Makes sense. But prices will be crazy as usual.
I love how bike manufacturer marketing convinced XC racers, a few years ago, to get more travel (110-130 mm ish) because the tracks were getting more technicals, then started to make soft tails as their full suspension xc bikes a few years later. I know "downcountry" is a thing now so they need to differentiate the pure xc bikes with the more agressive XC/trail bikes but I find it quite funny. IMO, most people who wants an xc bike would benefit more from a 120 mm bike that can pedal well than a softail like this.
Trek still makes the Top Fuel. It's possible this will be the new 'Epic' and Specialized will keep the existing 'Epic Evo' as a longer travel XC bike just like Trek did the Top Fuel. I think the idea behind both this new Epic and the Trek Supercaliber are that they are designed to help phase out hardtails, not replace the longer travel XC bikes.
I have a heavily upgraded Scott Spark from 2009 and I have never ridden another bike that I prefer, or one as light and manoeuvrable. The rear suspension is perfect because it can be locked road riding and switched on enables me to do some aggressive off-road riding despite severely deteriorating discs in my spine. the bike is also lighter than most hardtails., so I have to disagree with your conclusion.

That makes sense. I was wondering what they were going to do as far as a "downcountry" bike. Thanks for the input and yes, prices will be ridiculous.

I mean, there are clearly different types of XC races anyway
XCM can find alot of benefits from a softtail while XCO and XCC uses alot more travel

You don’t have to buy one. There’s plenty of other choices out there but I suspect that you won’t like those either.
Epic caliber😅
When is the Trek Lawsuit coming?
This new epic design just shows that Specialized is not the industry innovator.
haha! That is right! As they say, imitation is the highest form of flattery.
Cannondale > Specialized :P
But there's no official repair/maintenance outlets for the Lefty forks🥲🥲🥲🥲
