    I have watched so many kayak motor videos and I keep coming back to yours. The design and detail is the best. I am considering using a stiff cable/rod to control my steering as I want it only on one side and I want a steering lever that pushes forward and back like the throttle on a large boat. I think if I put a ball style connector on the end of the cable that connects with the horizontal steering piece I can still pull it up out of the water when needed without bending the cable. It may have enough flex. I have a Feel Free Moken V2 arriving soon and I will attempt to make a similar mounting plate. The pin for slipping the motor on looks so clean. Really great job and I thank you for putting this info out there. Keeps me busy during the COVID.

    Really got a lot out of your 5 part series! Thanks for the great vids. I have a 65 minn kota and am putting it on a 16 ft. portage canoe tha has a transom but want to design it so that i can remove it and drop it onto my kayak as well. Your vids are making that possible. I'm using a linear actuator used to turn solar panels for the tilt and placing it at an angle so that it will operate faster and I am using slave clamps; they go around the shaft without gripping it so that they don't impede the steering. I don't want to cut the shaft right now because i might want to sell it some day and get another so i got one with a 30" shaft. but the knowledge i gained from your vids is really excellent.

    Well now!! I am currently working on a trolling motor install on my kayak. My kayak is a cheap sundolphin journey 12ss. Not as fancy as this kayak but it works. I am in LOVE with you steering control set up and the tilt. I was confused at first of how it would work with reverse. But I see now that with the steering the trolling motor wont "kick up" with and where the cables are attached. Simply AWESOME! I will be crediting you in my video with the steering idea! Thank you!

    Hands down this is the best trolling motor mod video series I’ve seen. I am modding my Pescador Pilot 12 pedal drive to use a trolling motor and am incorporating several of your ideas. I have a question, the Pilot 12 does not have foot pegs that I can use for steering. Do you have another steering suggestion you would recommend?

    Great video series! I watched all 5 videos. I appreciate how detailed the videos were and how you tell us the product used and where to get them. That was very helpful. You got a new subscriber here. Of all the heat shrinking that were done, I’m surprised you didn’t use a heat gun. Thanks for sharing, this gives me some ideas to rig a trolling motor onto my canoe.

    Even though I don`t own a Kayak you did a GREAT JOB on all of the upgrades on yours! I own a 9' QUAD (4 inflatable bladders)pontoon boat and will try to use some of your ideas on it! Inflatable don`t have a full frame on them so some thought will have to be put into how to use more of your handy work on an inflatable pontoon boat especially the steering ! Again … GREAT JOB... Thanks Rod PS: How about a video on setting up all your mods on an Inflatable Quad ? LOL

    These series of videos have been great, your work and attention to detail is awesome. My question to you is do you think I can have this similar type of set up for my bass raider 10e? My concern is the peddles for steering, do you have any ideas? Thanks.

  • @sMileHighCity

    That's awesome! Nice, clean work. Nice job. Why didn't you mount the motor in the front of the kayak? Would seem to have much better control on the front. Eaiser to pull something than push it, no?
    Again, Great build

    reverse will be a problem in the water with the tilt not having a lock

    • @sikassscivic
      @sikassscivic  3 года назад +1

      Not at all, your feet on the peddles for steering holds it down. It’s been tested on probably 50 kayaks at this point so we are good.

  • @thebiggameken

    I don't see the cable for the steering in the parts list. What gauge cable are you using?

  • @55jorge02
    @55jorge02 5 лет назад +1

    are there any problems that you have encounter with the trolling motor not being "locked in position"? I like that in the event of hitting a rock the motor will kick up but just concerned that when going forward or reverse the motor will swing. (I hope I make sense)

    • @sikassscivic
      @sikassscivic  5 лет назад +2

      3rdcoastyakr no issues what so ever, forward position it forces the motor into the kayak and it can’t go anymore forward, reverse is the only time it kicks back but it’s something you get used to, before putting in reverse just firmly plant your feet on the pedals and it won’t kick up. It actually helps with tilting the motor also, take feet off the pedals and kick it in reverse while pulling up on the tilt.

    Hey thanks for all the great ideas. I’ve done something very similar to everything you’ve done. My motor is shutting off at or near max power when I turn the knob that far. I did use some different size wiring for the control box and the battery box and the kayak itself . I used 12 aug connectors on the control box and battery box and 14 aug between the motor and control box and battery and control box. Would this be why this is happening? Thanks .

    • @sikassscivic
      @sikassscivic  4 года назад

      Fletch Outdoors probably a bad knob or PWM. Wiring wouldn’t shut it down. Do you have anything to monitor your battery voltage?

    • @fletchoutdoors4392
      @fletchoutdoors4392 4 года назад

      @@sikassscivic I do have a voyage meter hooked up to it. I had a 30A PWM but switched to a 60A PWM now. Do I even need a fuse at all for this thing? I didn't see you put a fuse in the setup in your video. Thanks

    • @sikassscivic

      I use a trolling motor circuit breaker at my battery, it’s 50 amps. You can get them at Walmart in the TM section.

    Hammer Head? You and I about the same size men. How difficult is it to actually get up from the seat on one of these kayaks?? How comfortable is it sit in one of these things after a few hours of fishing or would a higher seat height be of any use? Thanks.

    • @sikassscivic
      @sikassscivic  3 года назад +1

      They suck for standing up and the seat sucks after a few hours, lol. I bought a big fish 105 and it’s night and day difference for standing with a real seat with actual padding. My pescador was ok for my first kayak, but there’s so much better ones out there. If you want to stand, look at the big fish 3 waters kayaks!
