  • First start of our VW bus with the self rebuilt engine
This is my first time building an engine of any type and was wondering if it would actually start!

After that long adventure and drive throughout the US it’s great to see it back and cleaned up. Nice repair on the right back corner. Would love to see you driving it again.

There are clamps called High pressure hose clamps and they work good. I have ones like yours on mine they work just fine too. Some guys go with AN fittings which are even better. the right side may be lean. check for vacuum leaks. ( could be old fuel too) that is why it was so much hotter than the left burning the paint on there. I use carb spray and spray it around the manifolds or boots to see if they are leaking.

I can build an engine but I can’t fix the horn 🤣😂

@onehappykombi just as an idea. Use an earth wire on the pole that is on the inside of the cab. (Next to your knees) and use this wire as the earth cable for the horn?
      If it's an earth problem.
If not, adjust the height of your horn push button. Remove the horn cover at the steering wheel. Under it, you should have 3 screws. Adjust this outwards. Each screw should have a spring on each one. This pushes the contact ring away from the steering wheel. If it makes contact with the steering wheel, it will complete the circuit and make the horn work.
      Just a couple of tips.

@onehappykombi well done rebuilding the engine! Top work. It's a huge weight off both your chests when it runs. Don't hammer it down the road. Nice and gentle. 300 miles (roughly) change the oil. If not fewer miles.
But im sure you have the help when needed.
One thing I've learnt owning old VWs is the love.
Anyone and everyone who owns old vw are happy to help.
      ❤️ it's not just a machine.... it's emotional 🤙🏻
