Just received the following update on the cadence issue from JetBlack: “something to do with our current build holding 10hrtz while in Erg. When the trainer goes to ERG it should change back to 1htz… He [engineer] has just about completed a build to change this”
Hi Tariq, just sent you a new build to test. The reason we smooth ERG is. Using ERG, the rider needs to know what they are doing. Holding a smooth cadence is very important. Over the years we found new riders need the support of a smoothed ERG to help them achieve a good session. 10htz can bring about fluctuations of 10 to 30 watts depending on the riders pedalling ability. All trainers would struggle to hold targeted watts with these fluctuations, this is why we all use ERG smoothing to different levels. In the near future we will be adding a feature to our App allowing ERG smoothing to be turned off. Cheers Murray
Forced ERG smoothing output from other reviews worries me, but everything else is spot on. Just watching review, wonder if it concurs forced ERG smoothing?
From a measurement perspective, I found it to be spot on with power meters I’ve tested against. It’s purely a cosmetic thing when you have ERG mode turned on and has no impact on the workout in any way. If you turn erg mode off in workout mode, it will immediately go back to normal so you can see what you are doing since you aren’t relying on erg mode to keep you at your target.
@@Lacking_something correct, we are working with our partners on this. Our reason for including the USB was to ready the unit for platform support and for some cool tech we have coming. :)
I would love one of these but even if I get in with the next round of pre-orders, I wouldn't expect to receive it until February by which time there won't be much of the indoor season left for me. I wonder if Jetblack are able to ramp up production given the high demand. It's a shame as it looks like a great product at a great price. I was hoping to finally upgrade from my dumb wheel on trainer this winter so looks like I'll have to get something else.
Great vid dude.. Ive had a Kickr core for a good few years and was thinking of upgrading to the full kickr v5 or 6 would you say this is a better option, considering warranty etc to ? Also could you do a vid on connecting trainerroad and Zwift ? How do you do the TR workout on Zwift be great to know as I used to be on trainerroad but due to cost of the two and losing my job etc I stopped using TR and now just have Zwift but may go with TR again as I like structured training aspect.. Pete 🚴🏻👍
Yes, I would say this is a trainer to consider if thinking of replacing the kickr core. TR is working in an API to push workouts to Zwift soon so this should eliminate the need to run both apps. But will look into doing a quick video explaining how run mine. Thanks for watching 🙏🏼
Locked onto Zwift is a deal breaker. It also does not work 100% with TrainerRoad. I use sim/free ride segments that require shifting - especially during sprints. No shifting is not a feature. It is a side effect of incompatibility.
Very easy to replace the cog with a 10 - 12 speed Cassette. Works very well with trainer road. Many hours testing across all platforms. Happy training.
One thing that I found is a program called QZ. The developers are working to stay with or ahead of what trainers are doing. I used it with a CORE on IndieVelo. Trainer worked well and gear transitions were smooth, not jumpy. Something to look into with the Victory and other than Zwift programs.

Aha you also mentioned it 👍👍👍👍 Would love to have that optional. Fab review 🎉

You should be able to connect a USB to Ethernet dongle and wire the trainer to your router for a solid wired network connection. Have you tried that?
Sorry the USB is not confiqured to do this. It is built to hard wire directly to the PC.
@@murrayhealey1903am I right in thinking that usb to device connectivity is not yet available in Zwift, but in the pipeline?

@@SmartBikeTrainers Awesome thanks :) Pete
Love how quiet this trainer is. It would be nice to not have to wear ear plugs while riding indoors with my current 2017 Kickr 😆
It is very quiet 🙂
How about Chinese brand smart trainers like ThinkRider and Magene, what do you think of them?
It’s been difficult to communicate with these companies to get them to send any trainer for reviews.
Great review- thank you! So, does it mean that this trainer won't let me run any other platforms- like Rouvy?
You can use other platforms if you put a normal cassette.
You can if you put a normal cassette or use it in ERG mode only.

You can put your own cassette on it…
@@jeffgazI use Zwift virtual shifting with a cassette. FD and RD still work, but who wants to ?

My 5-year old Tacx Neo2 outperforms this trainer. Although, installation of new Orbea Orca was PYA. BTW I ride in TR or SYSTM/MyWoosh.
That’s great. The T2 should last you many years of riding. Enjoy 👍
Not only does it not outperform this, it also costs 2-3 times more.
